A big part of it for me too was Pacal actually being sus of the traveler and questioning why they're hanging out with a child 😂 all the other nations are way too chill about this
To be fair, every other child we have met has been *after* saving the nation, so people already trust us, while Kachina was the first person we met in Natlan. Not to mention the only actual children before Kachina have been Klee and YaoYao; with Klee, those who take care of her would likely be more concerned about us than her, and with YaoYao, she's the disciple of an Adeptus who were are already familiar with.
@@eeveeofalltrades4780 plus most childrens were never actual childrens. £ Klee was a walking natural disaster, Qiqi was a zombie, Nahida was a god and sigewine was a melusine
The two thugs who kept pestering Kachina really did pissed me off like you guys are grown men fighting the kindest child I've ever met, she ain't even snarky or anything. They did they're purpose if they want the player to hate them.
They were so hateable, and I think them trying to bash at a child really shows how the current situation there is a grown up thing, and that they don't really care that it's a child they're trying to discourage as long as they win.
Hoyo was very smart for having Kachina be the one who died in the night warden war. We immediately want her back, and when we find out something went wrong with the ode of resurrection we care because we don’t get Kachina back due to that and we’ll do anything to revive Kachina once more, even go into the night kingdom ourselves. Mulalani could’ve been in Kachina’s place but it wouldn’t feel as urgent because we trust an adult to be able to handle that situation. There’d stil be some urgency though but not as much with Kachina IMO
THIS is why I love Hook from star rail, she a very energetic child that wants to grow up quickly yet it’s very clear she doesn’t have maturity yet and is still an innocent unruly child. I love my little Hook sm
Hook is what I wished Klee was like on screen. The Knights of Favonius are always TALKING about how much of a menace Klee is, and we always HEAR about how she spends so much time in the Solitary Confinement room, but whenever we actually meet with Klee, yeah she's really energetic, but she's always so polite and correct me if I'm misremembering, but outside of the Abyss Mage that accidentally blew itself up with one of Klee's bombs, we've never actually seen her destroy anything. Hook, on the other hand, even though I've only beaten the first world of HSR, already commands so much of that rebellious child energy that Klee is rumored to possess, causing all sorts of trouble just because she wants to play with her gang or help her father.
Finally someone talked about kachinas charecter I think she’s one of the best written charecters in Genshin because of her age which is also why I love nahida she’s not technically a kid but her mind is somewhat still the mental state of a newborn she at first was pretty brute with her words for example using “dook dook” when talking about anxiety or constantly doubting herself about her role as such a big leader when from the moment she was born she’s been in captive While she’s very mature for her mental age her views on thigns during the archon quest were quite simple a child leader is a common troupe in fantasy story’s and unlike most of them nobody actually expects much from nahida all the sumeru cast doesn’t baby her yet they don’t hold her to this high godlike value espically the traveler (Also why I think sumeru traveller was the best written traveller so far) they understood she was so confused from being a sheltered archon and took the path of growing with her and the massive sacrifice she had to make is just heartbreaking Also I like how she’s still such a little girl in her second story quest when the aranara began to sacrifice themself instead of being like oh a necessary sacrifice no she was sad and confused on why somebody would do such a thing she’s still learning and has come such a far way as both an archon and a growing adult child
Kachina's really endearing and I especially love her bond with Mualani. It just felt so nice seeing a child character not being overly babied but also not treated like they know everything because they're "gifted" or something
One of the things that I think helped sell Kachina winning against Mualani and making it to the Nightwarden Wars is the other results. The winners weren't just playable characters. The fact that Kinich didn't make it but some NPCs did along with various things said about how anything can happen on the battlefield makes me settle on the idea that Kachina sort of got lucky. Sure, she won that time but she's familiar with Mualani. How Mualani fights isn't changing that much from Kachina's expectation. Kachina is changing a bit more quickly than that (though I wish they'd spent more time building this up). So it isn't that Kachina is just stronger. NPCs won this time over Kinich which we know is supposed to be on the stronger end.
Huh. Makes sense: you would not expect Kachina to win over Kinich... IF Kinich was one of her matches before Mualani. However, the fact he's beaten by an NPC makes it so you feel anything can happen in the tournament, including Kachina winning against Mualani. I will say, tho: the memes of Kachina being an absolute beast without knowing are pretty funny. Mavuika ever losing against "GoAthIMtAnO"? WOE, KACHINA BE UPON HIM
@@leonardocouto3109 To be more specific, Kachina lost 1 round before Mualani too. Meaning that Mualani also lost another match and Kinich lost at least 2. Can't all have been done by Chasca. Yes, the memes are pretty funny.
I like it when NPCs or unassuming looking characters can win over playable and important characters occasionally, or are at least an appreciable threat to them, it makes the world itself feel more alive and makes the main characters' wins feel more earned. It's why I like JoJos and the later arcs of Hunter X Hunter a lot since every fight with even side characters feel like a life or death struggle that really could go either way
@@convergeman7825 I agree. In the case of writing, I prefer to make it so people don't feel like NPCs so much but in a medium where that's not possible like in Genshin where that'd necessitate spending for character models and bogging down files more, getting them this much is good.
Though from a meta perspective Mualani and Kinich ended up losing so you could do their personal quests (which don't require completing that point in the story) without losing story verisimilitude. Otherwise there really isn't a good narrative reason for Kinich to be left out of the group to fight against the abyss in favor of a couple rando NPCs who end up doing nothing. This part of the story probably required at least three drafts during the writing phase to make sure everyone was properly name-dropped and in the right places at the right time.
I actually work with kids IRL and you pretty much nailed why creators often don't nail the "child character" right. Children all mature differently, but even a child who is intellectually gifted is still *a child* at heart. I think a good example of this is Chiyo from Azumanga Daioh (highly recommend.) She's introduced as a 10 year old who is smart enough to enter high school. But she's not insufferable because her flaws are very much that of a child and everyone treats her as such. She wants to be a "high schooler" but she's not on the same level of emotional maturity as her peers and it's fun watching her fumble and grow as the story progresses. And this ties into another big factor that should be considered when writing kids- how the other characters treat them. One of my least favorite tropes with "kid" characters is when others are framed aa wrong for doubting them or the kid is always somehow right because they're so much more mature than the adults. The alternative is the kid who is always a brat or infantilized, will always screw up and always needs the others to care/nurture them. This needs a balance. Have the characters acknowledge the child's age and shortcomings. At the same time, let them treat the child with understanding and express that they have a desire to see them grow. Like a family member. And this is also why Kachina works so well. Her relationship with Mualani is endearing because Mualani doesn't baby Kachina. Instead, Mualani understands her struggles and gives Kachina what she needs to better. Mualani never held back anything from Kachina, even when they fought. That's part of why Kachina's victory felt so earned. Even Kachina's relationship with Kinich is endearing because he has is own brand of looking out for her AND still acknowledges her as a strong warrior Good character dynamics are incredibly important. And I think it's one of the things that is often missung when writing children.
To be fair. I never really saw her as a child because of how the story was written. Naive and Ernest and curious yes. But nobody babied her to the point I just saw her as a Young Capable warrior who just so happens to also be inexperienced as this is her first pilgrimage she participates
@@silverhawkscape2677 this isn't her 1st pilgrimage tho... she's participated many times, but this is the 1st time she's won (& also just got so far in. It was said the last time she lost in the one-on-one matches)
Another favorite gifted 10 year old of mine is Iris Wilson from The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. She earned a doctorate, is intelligent enough to invent for fun, and is a HUGE help to solving criminal cases. But you can tell how the adults around her keep secrets from her because they want to protect her innocence. After all, you don't wanna tell a child that her biological father is one of the most [spoiler] notorious serial killers in late 1800s Britain. Let's also not stray from Genshin. Nahida is well-written for a young god destined to represent her nation. She's the embodiment of wisdom yet her developmental age serves as an irony to that fact. She's very idealistic and helps out her people however she can, but made mistakes along the way and is currently stumped on how to rule a nation (based on her SQ). Naivety will always be a default trait for children especially when they've seen little of their world.
another great piece from you! i loved kachina in the AQ. she felt so much more authentic than the other kid characters, which is why i felt like her presence was pleasant & enjoyable ^^
I'd say that children are simple, but that doesn't mean they aren't complex. People in their 20s are still trying to figure out who they are which is a difficult process. Children are also trying to figure out what it means to be human and how to operate in society
Bit of an oxymoron, but I get it. Children are motivated for simple things, usually don't see the big picture like adults and thus their understanding of the world is different from ours, but still worth considering because it's a perspective we miss at times, sometimes by overcomplicating matters.
Well, they are given a choice to participate. No one is forcing them. Katchinas parents wanted her to become a dancer, but Kachina choise to become a warrior instead Mavuika said that participaton rate for the Pilgrmage would drop if people werent given the chance to fight in the war. So going to Pilgrimage is optional, and people want to fight in the war for their nation
@@feifae8688 yep, tho its still not forced, the wayob doesnt care if Kachina wants to participate in the war, they love Kachina and other ancient name bearers the same regardless if they want to help or not (wayobs very wholesome, me likey)
@@EsbequutI mean, they are given the choice as to whether or not to participate in the Pilgrimage as a try out for the Night Warden Wars, but as the war and Xilonen 's sorry quest showed, kids are not safe from the regular (and increasing) Abyssal attacks all over Natlan.
I've never felt so proud for a fictional child character ever until I got to witness Kachina's growth in the Archon quest. So well written and relatable; her aspirations and dreams to not only grow stronger but also protect her homeland encouraged me to put her on my team. The many times she says that she wanted to learn from us and other highly respected warriors are also why I placed her on the team. There were some moments where she even touched my inner child as well, so well done miHoYo for creating such an effective child character. (P.S. it was quite difficult to discern what you were saying in the video some times. Perhaps you can slow down a bit or invest in a better quality microphone :))
All the things you mentioned are the exact reasons why I'm determined to build/train my Kachina into a DPS 💪🔥 ......now if only I can stop getting sh** rolls on artifacts 😭
I completely agree with you on the entire video! When I first saw Kachina in the trailers, I thought she was just going to be another "child" character who's really just acting like an annoying adult or smth like that. But fortunately I was wrong, because the first time I saw her, she's so... relatable!??? I didn't think that Genshin can have realistic child characters, and as someone who is also kinda young I'm so happy to see a Genshin character that can correctly show how we can be like!! I've always hated how Genshin's child characters were either just old people in a small body, or straight up annoying (a very dislikeable trait), or just way too mature (might make someone jealous). Another really good thing they did with Kachina's character was her fear of not having knowledge. Children can each react differently with this, but Kachina's case is to be more of a listener. In these serious moments she wants to be just as amazing as the other warriors. She knows/thinks she's not good enough with her passion and wants to get better, but doesn't want others to know that probably because of feeling unworthy (and maybe bullying?). Unless it's about her hobbies. She tends to talk a lot about her personal interests that's not related to being a warrior or anything, at least to the Traveler she does. I also wish to see more of Kachina's parents, since of course they did raise her. And they seem like good parents so far! They don't expect much from her, too and might be more encouraging. idk so far but seems nice. And lastly, this is not related to her character, but I think her voice is amazing and accurate! Not all children are so high pitch and squeaky and I like that it was done here. It can also show that she's still in the growing up stage and that's great! Crazy how she's lower pitched than Xiangling who is supposedly a late teen. Yaoyao also has this lower pitched child voice but that's just the voice. But then again, people can vary a lot
They also did great with Star Rail character Hook, or "Pitch Dark Hook the Great". She's a great character as well, a "gang leader" who "steals jobs" because she wants to prove that she's better than the adults. The adults let her have the jobs because they are short handed and letting her group help keeps them out of trouble. Mostly.
Great video! One thing to note, though, is a facade of maturity that can appear in kids (especially girls) who for whatever reason try to prematurely become mature without the underlying understanding of what maturity means. This can look like a kid who appears bossy and doesn’t respect authority because at home he has to take care of his younger siblings or a kid that lacks any significant emotion after finding out about her parents divorce because all her role models don’t cry or get emotional like she does. In kachina’s case, she tries to be overly independent, hiding the fact that she’s entering the team competition alone due to, imo, the perception that maturity means independence and the insecurity of still only being as capable as a child. This isn’t true, however! This is kachina putting up a facade of maturity! We can see right through her facade in genshin due to the traveler overhearing the entire conversation, but this is not always the case. Sometimes, a kid will appear “mature for their age” in almost every aspect of their life! They want good grades so they can get a good job, they don’t act up when they don’t get what they want, and are incredibly smart for their age-but they’re still a child under all that! They actually want ice cream, they still feel as sad and angry as any other kid, and their capabilities don’t come with all the practical experience needed to utilize all the smarts they know-they just hide that immaturity as best they can. TLDR: I believe most kids tried to act like their older peers or role models in some way, some kids were just better at it…It’s important not to just include all the elements you mentioned on a surface level, but to consider how, as a child, one would cope, express, or even try to hide their own unique, maturity, emotions, goals, logic, etc.
Not entirely sure if this is what you mean, but as a child I was always thought to be in my teens (as a 9-10 year old) because of my appearance- I went through puberty very early- but also my maturity as well. I am a girl, and while I never had to take care of anyone early in life, I did struggle with mental health issues around 9-10. But like this video points out, I would MAJORLY overreact lol. Like, having a crying fit because I couldn’t figure out a math problem. So idk. I just remember watching the video and thinking “hmm, but I think of myself as a pretty mature child”, so thanks for pointing it out!
I went from not being interested in Kachina at all in the trailer to pulling out the adoption papers after the archon quest, like im genuinely feeling like a proud mother after seeing her development
I also felt something similar to fatherly pride when she won And I was eager to kill everything in the abyss to protect her The writing of her character is so effective it triggers some sort of parental instinct within some players, myself included
I agrew in all your points here. Im 37 and single so i cant relate to being a parent. Lol. But Nahida is one of my favorite child characters but i agree with you on how Kachina was written. When i first encountered her, i was like, "awwww she's so cute" and after knowing of her atruggles, i immediately went "protective brother/uncle" mode like i really said, "protect this cinnamon roll at all costs!" Also, sayu is well written. If you have done her hangout, it's cute. She's a child who can't wait to grow up thinking sleeping and eating too much would speed up her growth.. 🤭😂😁🤣
THANK YOU! This needed to be said! Natlan’s Archon quest so far has really endeared me to Kachina and I think the points you covered were a major part in that. It’s the reason why Niko from Oneshot will always be one of my favorite video game characters. Like Kachina, Niko frequently gets emotional, but it’s clear that they understand what’s happening in the world. They don’t need to be babied to help know what’s going on or to avoid facing ANY hardship, they just need the encouragement to help face hardship. I think another issue Kachina handled really well that a lot of Genshin characters struggle with (especially earlier characters), is that Kachina has more than one emotion. A lot of characters appear to be always happy or always stern, or their entire personality revolves around XXX, etc. For them, you’ll never see another side to them unless you dig a lot deeper into lore. It makes these characters feel very artificial. Kachina has had times when she is brave, fearful, sad, cutesy… it shows not only in the Archon quest but in her over world lines as well and it goes such a long way into making her feel realistic and sympathetic. This is the first time I’ve seen your channel, and looking around, there a lot more videos from you I want to check out. Very cool!
I think this is a lot more common among autistic children, but I never understood people wanting to grow up. I wanted to stay as a kid forever, and was terrified of being an adult
You're not alone❤💙. Even now, when i grow older that desire to never grow up still exist and i don't really mind if someone agree with me. Everyone is different, the fact that you said autistic make me realize this thing may happen more to neurodivergent people more
I genuinely love Kachina with all my heart. I love the other girls as well, but Kachina?? I would overthrow a small to medium sized country for that fictional child. First her design is adorable, her idle animations give me the worst cute aggression lmao but she's so sweet and yes, so well written; those adults bros trash talking her I was hissing SHE IS A LITTLE GIRL LEAVE HER ALONE under my breath. Same with the spirits in the abyss, that was so heartbreaking because you can *feel* she is a child, she's scared and trying so desperately to be brave. I love her. I like they're using the tears more since Fontaine, gives the character more expression. And her going 0_0 is too funny.
I’m technically still a child, and when I saw kachina in game and in the archon quest I related to her a lot tbh, which wasn’t something I’d experienced from genshin yet. Characters like kirara, kazuha, hu tao, yae miko, furina etc that I’d consider some of my favorite characters I didn’t actually relate to them it wasn’t relatability that made me like them but with kachina i went from “oh cool a free character I’ll probably never use or care about” to “OMG SHES LITERALLY ME I LOVE HER SM *proceeds to build her better than kinich*”
love the video, but a quick correction: dori is cannonically an adult. in an optional dialogue in a limited time event(i think it was either the tcg one or the interdarshan championship) she was stated to have dwarfism(or the genshin equivalent)
I agree with your analysis. Kachina has the perfect balance between young and emotionally unstable and a sort of youthful coming-of-age drive that makes her motivation to succeed and eventual triumph all the better. Not to mention, it makes the moment something goes terribly wrong that much more raw, because things not going according to plan is common in life but it is a hard lesson for young people to learn. They need to experience it first hand. I don't think there's a single person who seriously dislikes Kachina after the Natlan AQ Arc I. One tidbit I'd like to mention, though. Regarding Kachina's age, it was said that Natlan people can begin participating in the pilgrimage at age 12 and we know Kachina has lost 8 times at the start of the story. It's described as a seasonal thing, so it can happen 1-4 times per year. Assuming she isn't 20, let's narrow that down to 2-4 times per year. If it's 4 times a year, then it has been 2 years since Kachina started and she'd be 14. If 2 times a year, then it has been 4 years and she's 16. Therefore, we get an age range of 14-16 for her (compared to 18-21 for Mualani by comparison). I would say it's probably 4 times a year, once per season (since weather is so great in Natlan probably year-round), meaning she's likely 14. I think that mostly fits for a girl with her timidity while also making her growing strength believable, like beating Mualani.
One thing that blows my mind was the fact that she's been lost 7 TIMES, like, how old is she!?!? Even if she's around 13-15yo, if that tournament is held once every year, that still means that she's been entering the tournament since 2nd grade of elementary school!!!
@@Edahs_exists that would made her more than 20-30 yo though, in that small body, and still considered as a child, man, this game screws with my sense of age -w-')
@@Edahs_exists but dam, that's really often then, once every 3 months, which is kinda makes sense since they need the energy from all those conflicts to fuel the sacred flame
The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is that I don't think kachina is that much of a child as presented in the video. I always thought of her as a 14-16 year old put under a lot of pressure to improve, and I have 2 reasons for that. I'm pretty sure it's mentioned that Kachina participated in the Pilgrimage for YEARS and said she never got to fight in the Night Warden Wars, even when she wanted to. It just rubs me the wrong way (if she's 10-12) that they would let a 8-10 year old participate in a fight against adults, even when considering Natlan's culture. Second reason is simply just because she's way too mature. Sure, you could make the argument that BECAUSE she was put under a lot of pressure due to having an ancient name to improve as a fighter, but I still think she's a bit too mature even for that.
I found this video to be very helpful. I am also writing a young girl character in my story, but I was really uncertain of whether I am making her too "childlike/annoying" or not and stuff like that. My personally favorite advice from this video was at 5:57-6:28 which is the "Ground unrealistic moments in realistic emotions". Love how it was explained "the story is written in the way so we don't care", "It feels right". :D
Just a little bit of criticism, I'm having a bit of issues with the clarity of the words in your voice. If i didnt use the generated captions i wouldn't be able to understand what you were saying. A lot of words feel jarbled together and maybe a bit too fast so the words get lost in the mess. Perhaps try a little slower and more carefully, or perhaps its a mic issue? Its a shame because i do think you have a good understanding of the topic you are presenting, and I want to hear you more clearly.
One of my favorite kid characters is actually in trails Ferida Despite being part of warrior tribe and having experience fighting whenever grown up topics come up she's left wondering what everyone is talking about sometimes taking metaphors literally (Assuming picking up chicks as physically picking up chickens)
I totally agree that Kachina is a really well written child character, but I feel like people don't give the other child characters enough credit, they're all really well written as well. Now to be fair, some of them are definitely not strictly children. Sigewinne is a Melusine and while they have some child-like tendencies, they aren't children and are their own entire fictional race, so she doesn't count. I don't for a second believe that Dori is intended to be read as a child. Between the way she speaks, the way she acts, and her backstory, I think she's completely intended to be a young adult at *least* with some sort of growth disorder. Qiqi and Nahida are both in a bit of a gray area where they are children, but also very much not. Nahida may be 500 years old and a god of wisdom, but she still has some rather childish views on the way people work, like thinking a nice "dook dook" will get rid of your stress. Most of Qiqi's childish traits are overwritten by her being a zombie. She has memory issues, physical limitations, and has certainly been around long enough to be an adult if she was capable of growing, but she is still a child underneath it all. While it hasn't been explored very thoroughly for us to see, she does play games with Yaoyao, her only friend, and she still makes simple logical deductions about how the world works based on her current knowledge, like knowing that milk comes from an animal, thus coconut milk, must come from a special animal, as in a cocogoat. Sayu, Diona, Yaoyao, and Klee (along with Kachina of course) are all children and very much read as children, or at least, not adults. Sayu definitely reads the oldest, but she has this obsession with growing taller. Her friends her age are all taller than her, so she must be falling behind and she has convinced herself that the best way to grow taller is to get as much sleep as possible and eat a lot of food. She has big responsibilities placed on her as a ninja, but they aren't important to her at all, and she is constantly trying to avoid them in order to focus on what *is* important: growing taller. Diona is presumably a child to a single father ( I don't remember there ever being a mention of another parent) and she is deeply attached to him, but she hates how he acts when he drinks. Instead of thinking her dad just kinda sucks sometimes, the real problem is surely the alcohol and if she just makes it so that alcohol isn't appealing to drink, her dad will always be the dad she loves. Its a really childish view. She doesn't see that her dad isn't a perfect person, that he has interests and a side of his personality that are unappealing to her, she just sees that alcohol makes him bad, so the alcohol is the problem, not her dad. Yaoyao is a *fantastic* example of an adulitified child, so much so that even players read her as little adult and not the child she is. She comes off on the surface very mature; she's calm, she's reasonable, she's responsible, she tries to take care of the people around her. But she's just a little kid. She's scared of thunder, as much as she tries to hide it, she doesn't want to do her spear drills, she spouts philosophical sayings that she doesn't at all understand (as in her voice line: Eat up, wrap up), and her first thought when asked about Osial if how she would cook him. When she talks about her parents she reveals they live in the mountains and spend their time growing precious herbs, so much so they often forget to eat, which tells me they probably also often forgot to take care of Yaoyao and she was forced to take care of herself, and eventually also her parents. She had to grow up quickly because there was no room in her parents lifestyle for her to just be a child. And then there's Klee, the most precious and innocent and child-like of all of the children characters. She's a light being protected by every single adult around her. They all want her to live a carefree childhood and not grow up too fast. Klee is loud and boisterous and doesn't understand her own strength, but we've seen her time and again being taught by gentle hands as the Knights remind her to be polite, to respect other people's property, and to start to understand the consequences of her actions. I do not like children, but Klee is so deeply charming and wonderful I can't help but love her.
i love the video! however due to my auditory processing disorder i couldnt understand what you where saying when you spoke a little bit too fast which mashes up the words together for me is it possible to include subtitles in the future?
@@Edahs_exists really appreciate it! Love the video idea btw if you're planning on adding subtitles imma re-watch it so i can understand the sections i missed!
I don't dislike Kachina, as a matter of fact, after finishing the 5.1 quest, she's just another important member in the archon quest, the clunkliness of Kachina to me is just that how she was introduced to us felt very unnatural, like the writers forcing you to meet and team up with her in a pitiful way, like she just got abandoned again, and she is very considerate...etc, if you want to sell me on that trait you could've just had her sitting in front of town all gloomy, meets you and shows you around, after meeting Pacal and knows we are the legendary traveler, pleaded for us to train her, then upon going to the war stadium do we know that she was left behind by her team mates and might be entering the tournament solo, I don't mind her crying much, it is just that I would appreciate her more if she really hide herself under a robust mentality (acting like a chosen warrior) on the outside, then when her vulnerable side finally shows she is just like any other young kid, but anyways still a good character in genshin standards, great video btw
Crap I should've written my ocs from when I was a pree-teen so I'd know what my thought process was. I thought I would remember everything by memory lol
"They are not small adults" exactly. IMO apart from Kachina and Klee, the rest of Genshin's child characters are depicted as "small adults" which is kinda weird for me ngl. They're clearly children, so why doesn't Hoyo tell it like it is? Anyway, great video. I've also been rooting for Kachina like a supportive mother throughout the AQ lmao
Who tho? I see Sigewinne and Dori as adults. Diona and Sayu are teenagers. Nahida is kinda ambiguous. And then the only acthal cannon children would be Klee, Kachina, Yaoyao and Qiqi
I think you make a lot of good points in this video. But I think you should try to enunciate your words more clearly. There are several points where you seem to want to rush through what you want to say as quickly as possible, but that results in a mumbling mess which isn't ideal. So take your time to speak more clearly and your videos will be much better since the actual content is already very good.
Great video essay! I have one criticism I hope can be taken as constructive though: please talk slower and mumble(?) less. Try to articulate each syllable more clearly and don’t rush. Also my friend is claiming that Nahida is cuter than Kachina. Please help me prove him wrong :P
Not gonna lie, it's quite hard to listen to your speech, to not discourage you from putting yourself out there, but it'd help to have some speech learning

@13-bit-kitten fact of the matter is darker skin tones will complement Natlan player characters alot more with the palet that they have at the moment, but as the Twitter people say "Pale skin characters are more appealing to look at and they sell better", yeah border line racism. Maybe if Mihoyo didn't made Dehya suck she would of sell better, because character kits are vital to their revenue no matter how much the "fun over meta" people cry. A character with a better kit will always outshine a character with a bad kit game play wise and revenue wise.

Hook, on the other hand, even though I've only beaten the first world of HSR, already commands so much of that rebellious child energy that Klee is rumored to possess, causing all sorts of trouble just because she wants to play with her gang or help her father.
@@Lampent12Klee is a good child but she gained her mother knack for arson both things can be true at the same time
Finally someone talked about kachinas charecter I think she’s one of the best written charecters in Genshin because of her age which is also why I love nahida she’s not technically a kid but her mind is somewhat still the mental state of a newborn she at first was pretty brute with her words for example using “dook dook” when talking about anxiety or constantly doubting herself about her role as such a big leader when from the moment she was born she’s been in captive
While she’s very mature for her mental age her views on thigns during the archon quest were quite simple a child leader is a common troupe in fantasy story’s and unlike most of them nobody actually expects much from nahida all the sumeru cast doesn’t baby her yet they don’t hold her to this high godlike value espically the traveler
(Also why I think sumeru traveller was the best written traveller so far) they understood she was so confused from being a sheltered archon and took the path of growing with her and the massive sacrifice she had to make is just heartbreaking
Also I like how she’s still such a little girl in her second story quest when the aranara began to sacrifice themself instead of being like oh a necessary sacrifice no she was sad and confused on why somebody would do such a thing she’s still learning and has come such a far way as both an archon and a growing adult child
Another Sumeru win :D
Talking about Nahida reminded me of her creepy fans lol
Even Kachina's relationship with Kinich is endearing because he has is own brand of looking out for her AND still acknowledges her as a strong warrior
Good character dynamics are incredibly important. And I think it's one of the things that is often missung when writing children.
Yess! Ty for putting in your input, like I said, I’m not around young kids a lot so I wasn’t entirely sure, glad to hear it’s accurate.
chiyo was my favourite
Juice, character analysis when.
@@supermariogamer5294 I'd challenge you to find someone adult or child that didn't have at least one oxymoronic trait
Not super related but being a child in Natlan must suck. Fighting in a war before you've finished middle school is rough.

All the things you mentioned are the exact reasons why I'm determined to build/train my Kachina into a DPS 💪🔥
......now if only I can stop getting sh** rolls on artifacts 😭
TLDR:
I believe most kids tried to act like their older peers or role models in some way, some kids were just better at it…It’s important not to just include all the elements you mentioned on a surface level, but to consider how, as a child, one would cope, express, or even try to hide their own unique, maturity, emotions, goals, logic, etc.
I also felt something similar to fatherly pride when she won
And I was eager to kill everything in the abyss to protect her
The writing of her character is so effective it triggers some sort of parental instinct within some players, myself included
I agrew in all your points here. Im 37 and single so i cant relate to being a parent. Lol. But Nahida is one of my favorite child characters but i agree with you on how Kachina was written. When i first encountered her, i was like, "awwww she's so cute" and after knowing of her atruggles, i immediately went "protective brother/uncle" mode like i really said, "protect this cinnamon roll at all costs!"
Also, sayu is well written.
Very cool!

Kachina constantly made me go “AAAWWWWWW” and I loved her
And her fight just made her even more adorable
love the video, but a quick correction: dori is cannonically an adult. in an optional dialogue in a limited time event(i think it was either the tcg one or the interdarshan championship) she was stated to have dwarfism(or the genshin equivalent)
My first impression was: what's wrong with this kid?
After archon quest: she is my daughter
I really liked Kachina's characterization, especially with the rescue. She's genuinely terrified, but trying so hard to hide it. Sweet child.
One thing that blows my mind was the fact that she's been lost 7 TIMES, like, how old is she!?!? Even if she's around 13-15yo, if that tournament is held once every year, that still means that she's been entering the tournament since 2nd grade of elementary school!!!
I was curious about that too, from my research apparently it’s moreso seasonal, so like 3-4 a year(which makes much more sense)
@@Edahs_exists that would made her more than 20-30 yo though, in that small body, and still considered as a child, man, this game screws with my sense of age -w-')

If she was 14 she'd have mualani's model

Normally I try to but this one was made in a rush. But yeah I can see what you mean-
I do too 😭
It makes it hard to watch a lot of videos without subtitles on
My dad was always mad at me for turning on subs on TV for some reason too 😅
@@Edahs_exists really appreciate it! Love the video idea btw if you're planning on adding subtitles imma re-watch it so i can understand the sections i missed!
I don't dislike Kachina, as a matter of fact, after finishing the 5.1 quest, she's just another important member in the archon quest, the clunkliness of Kachina to me is just that how she was introduced to us felt very unnatural, like the writers forcing you to meet and team up with her in a pitiful way, like she just got abandoned again, and she is very considerate...etc, if you want to sell me on that trait you could've just had her sitting in front of town all gloomy, meets you and shows you around, after meeting Pacal and knows we are the legendary traveler, pleaded for us to train her, then upon going to the war stadium do we know that she was left behind by her team mates and might be entering the tournament solo, I don't mind her crying much, it is just that I would appreciate her more if she really hide herself under a robust mentality (acting like a chosen warrior) on the outside, then when her vulnerable side finally shows she is just like any other young kid, but anyways still a good character in genshin standards, great video btw
ive always seen Dori as child-sized but actually like 25 or something, idk why
Crap I should've written my ocs from when I was a pree-teen so I'd know what my thought process was. I thought I would remember everything by memory lol
Great video~ just one thing, slow down lassie, it's a tad hard to understand what you are saying in many points of the video =.=b
I think that Lilo from Lilo and Stich is also a well written child character
Diona is 12ish (probably,I think),Nahida is 500
I think diona and sayu are pretty childishly depicted too
I mean, if you know their background, it makes at least some sense on why they are the way they are. Which one doesn't make sense?
Lolicon, thats why
Hey would you maybe do a hsr video in the future? I'm very interesting on your take on the hsr writing team
I don’t play hsr, I’m not a turn based enjoyer. Tho the story looks pretty cool.
Saying that Kacchina is written well is like saying that Mualani personality and role model in the story iis not a copy of Amber/Yoimiya 😆
Exactly, because it is exactly the case: mualani is very different from yoimiya/amber and kachina is the goat of 5.0 above both mavuika and capitano
I like this video but, you talk quite fast so it was difficult to keep up
I think you make a lot of good points in this video. But I think you should try to enunciate your words more clearly. There are several points where you seem to want to rush through what you want to say as quickly as possible, but that results in a mumbling mess which isn't ideal. So take your time to speak more clearly and your videos will be much better since the actual content is already very good.
Great video but slow down when you are talking
Those are some interesting thoughts, but you should work on your diction. Sometimes I just don't understand the words you saying.
i just like that she's ocd coded just like me fr
cant understand half of what you are saying 😭
Great video essay! I have one criticism I hope can be taken as constructive though: please talk slower and mumble(?) less. Try to articulate each syllable more clearly and don’t rush.
Also my friend is claiming that Nahida is cuter than Kachina. Please help me prove him wrong :P
Not gonna lie, it's quite hard to listen to your speech, to not discourage you from putting yourself out there, but it'd help to have some speech learning
Hiiiii
If only she was a few shades (and by a few shades I mean not as white as the light that shines down on us from the cancer causing sun) darker as well as all the other Natlan playable characters. Idc I’m going to keep saying it, the people who put me down only fuel me.
Edit: y’all idk why I’m engaging with this swiec person, I think it’s just for the sake of laughing at their comments and catchphrases they use. Idk their clear and smooth brain logic is just fueling me ig.
So... She is not that good because she is pale? This is what you're trying to say? Despite all her good traits for you her defining one is one she cannot change?
@@13-bit-kitten I don’t hate her I like her it’s just she shares a dislike I have for every other natlan character which hinders my enjoyment for them, that like I said I don’t hate them for I just wish they were just a darker shade. Sorry that i didn’t specify that I realize that I should’ve been more through. (Tbf it’s 5:41 rn I’m tired as hell so plz give me some leeway here)
@@dopeydoughnut6334 Why are you so obsessed with skin colour?
Talk That Talk Bruh.
I didn't even notice Mualani has tribal tattoos unit she met 2Pac in the cutscene that made them glow. You know what would have made them stand out more? A darker skin tone.
Yeah 2Pac real slick🤦🏽♂️
her being written like a kid makes her 10x hotter imo
Just weird and p3dophilic for no reason
