- Hi everyone, sorry for the long wait.
Just when you thought my videos couldn’t get any dumber, I rise from the ashes to bring you this! I really enjoyed making this video, it was a passion project of mine and definitely took a while so I really hope it turned out well. Fantasy maps in particular are always such a cool thing to study because of the mix between real world and fiction. They’re basically an extension of the fictional worlds storytelling and seeing how developers use maps as a medium for their in game worlds is always so interesting. And I hope you enjoy this exploration too! I just again want to put this out there too, that I am by no means a professional artist or game dev or anything like that, I just really like maps if you can’t tell haha. So this video was made purely for the fun of it.

Thank you for the new map
Now I submit it to Katheryne and get some primos 😂. btw your video is giving me @jaidenanimations vibes 😄 idk why but....
Would it be alright to use this map if it were to be used for a mod if you were given credit?
Or would you rather not be associated with modding the game?
Me personally, I use them to strengthen immersion in reigons like natlan (i.e. skin colour) as well as UI changes
@Beerevity thanks bee ill use this for a RPG table genshin related you're a queen
thanks
Hey Beerevity,
After downloading the images, I find the resolution of the map is not high. Everything is really blurry.
Mind reuploading it again?
Watch her count how many jobs you can have as an npc in genshin next
Oh yea, I like this idees
PLEASE DO THAT NEXT HOLY
More jobs than she has
Oh I would love this idea
Let’s not give ideas… please come up with MANY more
There is an official in-game map in Jean's office by the door, which is also dated because it shows the mountains before Klee went silly
it's the CBT map iirc
So we need a map before Klee and after Klee.

Considering that we unlock the map by interacting with the Statues of the Seven, it's likely the map we use is not man-made, but rather the information comes from the Leylines.
I love this theory and the irony of Natlan having best maps but weakest Leylines
The leylines should know the windrise tree
Vanessa gettin ghosted by teyvat's memories
Perhaps they’re man made maps that were lost to everything but the leyline memory, which is why they’re outdated
I always imagined that it was paimon making the maps lmao

imo the reason the electro hypostasis hasn't got a path going to it is because it like you said is technically undiscovered, whereas we have canonical proof the anemo hypostasis has been both discovered and studied, sucrose's entire ult is based upon that fact, since one of her burst quotes is "anemo hypostasis emulation"
omg i've always thought she says anemo hypostasis simulation not emulation
@@SkyC424me too!! I never looked at her lines I just assumed it was simulation… I guess both works but emulation does make more sense grammatically? HAHA

I want this as the official Genshin Community Map, Bee just did a 4 year old game a favor and it needs to be recognized
I would love for this to be the new version of the Genshin Interactive Map.
The Genshin Interactive Map has to adopt this
unfortunately, to tally my position in game's map to the interactive map's map, I need to orient myself with nearby roads. and with one map missing most of the roads on the other... it would become a real pain (more than it already is)
could work as a toggle tho!
even better: 3Dmigoto mod for the map texture.
I can't wait for Snezhnaya to have frozen lakes on the road and also have ragged paths towards the city, bonus points if there are random jagged mountains in its borders
would be funny if the frozen lake on the road is proof of the Northland bank mismanagement of taxpayer money
There better be random scorch marks all over the place or I'm gonna be so disappointed in Diluc
Bad roads for Snezhnaya would be culturaly accurate 😂
Can’t wait for Snezhnaya to have the dragonspires cold effect all over
this would be accurate temperature wise, but i will be mad if the roads aren’t pothole filled. Clearly it can’t be that cold if the roads are flat

I think the nameless island makes sense to be hidden
It's supposed to be a secret for players to find and go to it from the beginning beach area
I think it should be in the map only when we finish the quest, (like that natlan one) as now it tracks the island but doesn't spoil it for new players
Using Kaeya was worth it as a beginner
I mean, the Natlan one isn't very hidden. There's a random waypoint out in the middle of the water.
@@XenoWars I know I know but that's besides the point
What I meant to say is that the island being in the map would spoil the fun that is finding it
I didn't say the island in natlan was hidden, I said the nameless island appearing in the map (like the natlan one) only after the mission makes more sense for it rather than just being there and spoiling all the fun
@@martimdiasguimaraes3293 "What I meant to say is that the island being in the map would spoil the fun that is finding it"
TRUE!!!!
As the map gets bigger and more of Teyvat map is unlocked, it would be great to be able to unzoom more. As of now the map displays subareas (like Apam Woods) when zoomed in and when we zoom out it switches to areas (like Ashavan Realm), if we could unzoom more we could have subregions (like Dharma Forest) and regions (like Sumeru) displayed with their symbol layered on top.
I was hoping this too
This exactly
I will never not think of you when I notice map inaccuracies
The small puddles in Mondstadt may be artesian wells, places where the water table is high enough where it seeps out of the ground in depressions in the ground
Tha'ts not technically a correct description of an artesian well, but I agree, my first thought was that they're artesian wells/springs fed by groundwater.
Yeah I forgot what they were really called and only remembered the term artesian well
A.k.a. Klee "Kaboom!"
As an Abyss Lector of the Fathomless Flames, I found this video really intriguing and instructive to our geological education of the Abyss Order. Having been using outdated map sources for millennium, it led us to countless tragedy throughout the battles against the overworld. With this newly updated map, we can finally have better understanding of the critical mistakes we have made and somewhat have better coordination with the Hilichurls for future attacks. It was such a pain trying to cooperate with those incompetent... creatures calling themselves as soldiers from a fallen civilization (am I right, my fellow Abyss Mages?) I also notice that Celestia wasn't mentioned in the video despite having done nothing other than suppressing those from the overworld for eternity since the early days of Teyvat, I think it should be added to the map too, for better research purposes of course.
"For better research purposes".... *of course.*
"I swear, it's for medical research"
Suuure… 😂
Okay, Enjou
Well, absolutely-surely-not-Enjou, thanks for your feedback! Your answer feels nothing suspicious so I think we should do it in nev version, so be on the line!
1:41 fun fact, that picture with Lumine fishing out Paimon is actually in Guyun's Stone Forest, in the middle point where the four sleeping Ruin Guards aggro you.
How do you even figure things like this out
No wayyyy. I just realised that
I've always thought of the map being the Traveller's own map. Mostly because of how it worked in the Chasm where instead of getting the details from the statues, we got it from Zhiqiong.
Oh true
24:03 this village is probably isn't very old. From Beidou's hangout, we know that she once lived here before it was abandoned
Honestly, I had exactly the opposite impression of Fontaine - between the Court, Passion, Melusine Village, Lumidouce/Romaratine Harbor, and the little homesteads scattered over the map, it felt a lot more like an actual country where people live than Mondstadt/Liyue/Inazuma, where almost everything outside the one big city is just ruins, like it's a isolated outpost (or post-apocalyptic in Inazuma).
I agree on your points but disagree with the conclusion. Fontaine does the worst in terms of connectivity and natural urban growth. There are no exits from the Court of Fontaine other than the aquabus. And all other settlements are completely disconnected from each other with no way of transporting goods or commuting. Aquabus lines make basically no sense. And the main harbors are just harbors in the middle of no where without any nearby settlements that merchants and dock workers would live in. Many of those settlements also are just random and doesn't make any sense why they would be there. Genshn actually did better in this regard in older areas and only started failing halfway through Inazuma.
None of them feel like real countries based on its road networks, trade, and urban layout. They all have issues in one form or another. One country does well in one area but not in another.
22:30 for those mountains in particular, npcs are not supposed to go there, as its the place where the adepti lives, and as its said that those who reach the adepti will have their wishes granted, well its also granted that the road to those wish granting adepti is not going to be easy (otherwise everyone and their mothers would go everyday to those mountains)
Exactly
id like to bring up most people in sumeru don’t believe in aranara, and so they can’t see them. it makes sense the cartographer wouldn’t mark them. And vananarana shared that same idea
Smh, should have made Haypasia the cartographer. She sees them after all :(
24:07 in Beidou's hangout event, she says this was her hometown as a kid(around 5 or 6 years old was when she arrived)! it used to be a fishing village called Downriver because the people came from a place called Upriver(which is now completely gone). so it's only been abandoned relatively recently, but has been pretty much forgotten by most people
I think it's not the exact village that appeared on the timestamp you commented, it was another one I think?
Amazing job!!! This is one of those things that, you don't realize just how much you need it until someone makes it. Your updated map looks sooooo much better than the in-Game version I can't even...
Also, you might already be aware, but the only location in Genshin where a boat actually moves naturally from place to place is in Chenyu Vale along the Bishui River, an NPC uses a bamboo pole to propel a Bamboo Raft to and from the lower docks of Yilong Wharf (you can also interact with an NPC at the docks to get a ride down the river as well).
I was shocked the first time I saw it in-game while exploring along the river, but I've seen it happen a few times since... you can even fly / swim onto the boat and get a free ride along the river. Always wished they did this with the larger boats in the game, would add so much to the immersion, especially if they randomized the times when boats dock and depart.
Anywho, amazing job, this was genuinely fun to watch and it's a shame Hoyo doesn't put more effort into their own map. : /
Hello??! Thank you so much cobalt glad you enjoyed the video, I truly appreciate the kind words! And yes of course, I love taking the rafts along chenyu vale, that makes it all the more sad when it's the only place in all of Teyvat to do that though. I would love if you could see say, ships off in the distance from port ormos or liyue harbour moving about. One can dream.😔❤️
@Beerevity Thanks for the reply and yes, you did an amazing job on this! 😊 your attention to detail covering such a large open world map is also very amazing.
And yeah, ships actually doing things, trade caravans on roads between towns, NPC's having more freedom to do things in towns... there's a lot of immersion elements I wish the game had. Even more daily quests that help you permanently fix or clean up areas of the world would be cool.
Regardless, keep up the amazing work!!! 😊
@@Beerevityjust a question (i wont join u) what server are u on? like asia, america etc.
This makes me remember when I was young and I used to read fictional series like The Wheel of Time and Elfstones of Shannara. The very first thing I would do was look for the map at the beginning of the book. It's such a cool part of the experience. The Wheel of Time was my favorite because it was the first time the map was actually a fully colored and 3-D relief map.
yesss I would do the same with the Ranger's Apprentice series!
For me this was Eragon!
The unmarked roads always drive me crazy when i'm exploring, you did us all a great favor
Imagine she examines the outfit in every region. Couldn't be.
you mandela'd yourself over the treasure holders in mondstadt because we do see treasure holders there, but only in various character and world quests
also, thank you for your hardwork, the maps you made are going to be very useful as I try to figure out where all the missing people have villages and towns they live at (because obviously the population isn't just the few hundred npcs across the entire world)
And also leylines
Mika on death watch, life's work flexed on by resinless queen.
9:55 it's probably because there are some treasure hoarders in one or two of the Mondstadt leylines
IIRC there's also Treasure Hoarders in some quests
Isn't there the ONE treasure hoarder in wolvendom that you can talk to on the little beach?
Yeah Love that video! I also would like a update on the map, i think i will write that in the next survey. Overall i love your changes i only would comment on a few things:
1. Windgliders, i believe it is statet that the anemo archon is regarded as a god not only for the mondstadt region, but for travelers and free spirits all over teyvat so the windgliders are not exclusive to mondstadt in my opinion
2. I think that treassure hoarders and eremites are supposed to be inconsistent, because they are not supposed to be part of society
3. All the aranara related stuff should be missing in my opinion, because they are related to idea of only be visible in a dreamlike state, the whole Aranara questline makes you question if their existence is real/a dream/spirits anything in between all this, so i would say for the normal society they should count as non existent
I was thinking about that single bell in Mondstadt, maybe it isnt supposed to be the ruins of a village, but was dropped there by Dvalin or a storm caused by dvalin, by that logic many stuff could be the remnants of storm dropping them all over Mondstadt, dame for floods in Fountain or storms/floods in Inazuma
@@nicoalbert1450 It's refered to as curch/chapel ruins in one of the mondstadt bounties i believe
You don't understand how happy the world builder in me gets whenever you post a video, these topics are actually super useful to me
The village at 24:12 is the village Beidou grew up in! It even has an official name, "Downriver". You go there in her hangout, and it talks about how it was pretty recently abandoned.
I love how expressive and emotive you are with Lumine and your other meme edits
10:16 the reason it was never added to the map is because alice never discovered it and not many npc know the island exists
Ok but they NEED to higher the zoom bc I have to scroll for 10 billion hours trying to get from Inazuma to Fontaine 😭
Edit: guys, I KNOW there is a shortcut button, this is for JOKE PURPOSES ONLY! Also a lot of newbies don’t really pay attention to that thing but I KNOW WHAT IT IS SO STOP COMMENTING IT
Edit #2: Another thing I should've probably clarified is that I want to see the entire map in its glory, that fast travel thingy is still annoying to use, especially since teyvat has gotten so big, so please stop commenting about it!!!!!!!!!!

@@D1ngD0ngSo3k Honestly it’s pretty effective but most of the time I forget that exists, I only use it for like hidden regions
Fun fact: Vind is the Swedish word for Wind. Swedish and German share the same Germanic roots, and thus have a few similar words. They're also quite close in geographic terms.
Mondstadt is more Germanic inspired leading into medieval Germany, but there are many similarities with Sweden in it.
4:08 Maybe people go to the Anemo Hypostasis to worship it since Mondstadt is the land of the Anemo Archon after all, whereas the inhabitants wouldn't really have an interest in the Electro Hypostasis.
23:18 strictly speaking, it doesn't say the RIDER has to be blessed, just the ITEM itself, and I'm not aware of any other lore to suggest that the users of gliders are limited (indeed, playable characters from all regions can use gliders just fine), so unless I've overlooked something you might have jumped the gun; the issue would be rather that the gliders are somehow scarce, based on the whole subtext of the sumeru scholars trying to reproduce them in the first place; you're right at least that there doesn't seem to be anything that really makes it clear what exactly this blessing IS though
The abandoned village with a lot of small docks, west of Wangshu Inn, iirc was where Beidou used to live. Beidou is still fairly young, so I’m imagining the reason the settlements are less worn down is because it was abandoned not too long ago.
Also, I think it was near the vicinity of Wangshu Inn that there was a small village where Shuyu’s grandmother, Yuandai gave birth to Shuyu’s parent (I can’t remember which one), so idk if the village was the very same or a different one, but it’s food for thought.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants the map and world to make sense, it really feels super fragmented even though Liyue and Mondstadt have been around for 4 years or so now!
For me part of the game was using the custom map marker feature to jot down things that I find important that don't appear on the map: it feels like part of the exploration! Puzzles without a clear solution, spots with scenic views, places with a high level of a certain enemy that isn't part of the adventurer's handbook (this mightve been fixed now idk but when I was farming whopperflowers there were quite a few spots with unmarked ones, like those you have to interact with weeds to trigger). Since we as a traveller tend to go many places where few people have actually gone to or seen for themselves, it felt pretty natural that many things will be unmarked as to not spoil the landscape before you go see it. That being said I love love love the work you've done here, I'm a sucker for map-making and making like, unofficial travel guides, and noting lore that isn't necessarily story-important, but makes the world feel complete.

hoyo when?
27:50 I think the thing that bothers me most about the world layout is that there's so much more that's implied to exist than what we actually get in-game. Obviously, there are good reasons for this, but I'd like to know where all the people in Liyue went if it seems like literally every village everywhere is abandoned. I remember being stunned at Sumeru when I found more than two places where people were actually living. We got four! Just within the rain forest! Plus Aaru Village! And then we dropped back down to two for Fontaine again. When you factor in all the other things that lore suggests should be there, and it makes me wonder what a "real, full-scale" version of Teyvat would be like.
This is a lot of thought and effort put into fixing the maps for Genshin. Hoyoverse really should hire Beerevity to fix their in-game maps!
Shrines of depths are at least outlined in Fontaine but not in other places like Monstadt.
I think only in Sumeru
I think the "Disneyland geography" of Fontaine is way more justified because it's, y'know, and archipelago
Archipelagos having unique and one-off details is a very common thing, so it definitely makes sense for world building and game design
I think the reasons why it feels worse than in Inazuma are:
-lack of civilizations, which make the different areas feel more like it's *for the player* than for the world
-the fact that you can go into the water, making the rives and lakes not feel like an actual separation between the different islands and Instead just seem like normal land too, making it feel less like an archipelago and more like a big land with some *very* big puddles
Basically that it feels like a land with water on top rather than water with land on top
I would see this complaint being way more justified with Natlan, since it doesn't have as much of a justification with how it's just a normal landmass
Buuuut you could justify it with world building/lore and how the Wayobs affect the surrounding land, but it's still a stretch
Natlan really suffers with the Disney geography on areas like the People of the springs because it feels very out of place, but ultimately I understand it's for a game design reason
It's meant to feel like a bunch of disconnected areas with different element themes. If they wanted to make it feel less like Disneyland geography they would have had to either tone down the differences between the zones (bad for game design and feel) or the nation would have needed to be like twice or thrice bigger (hell for the devs)
I think the reason why you remembered Treasure Hunters in Mondstadt is because of Amber's story quest involving a group of Treasure Hunters. Since it's likely the first time we encounter Treasure Hunters, we associate them with Monstadt despite being completely absent of it (except for Dragon Spine which came later).
We do get an NPC using a glider once. One we help a treasure hoarder out of a deep pit in Liyue for a (world?) quest, the text says something along the lines of "we both fly up on our gliders."
Absolutely brilliant video. Really wish the devs valued functionality on the map and worldbuilding just a tiny bit more so we didn't get the messy "road" that leads to beyda harbor.
This makes me want to get a side quest or event where we redraw the map with mika and also giving my boy mika some spotlight 😢
Natlan NPC can't turn into saurians, only the Traveler can do it
Looking at the map always gives me an empty feeling, seeing the black voids not being expanded. Like parts of it could have more expectations and yet they're lacking
1:19 she is not a map 😢
that sound so right and so wrong at the same time
"have you ever wondered..." No, we most likely haven't
For an open world rpg, it isn’t really gonna be fun for the player as everything is just straight up shoved in their face? But I get where you’re coming from. Can’t wait to watch!
For other open world games, the map is revealed by exploration. I feel like it could be more detailed, with each waypoint revealing the area instead of one Statue lighting up an entire region
Yep, can confirm as someone who has adhd and orients themselves accordingly to the map for new areas. Being able to get lost even if I see the map is part of my favourite thing about exploring the map. And for the map to not be perfect makes sense for the time Teyvat is in, compared to modern times we have irl😅
@@Elliarts54 ahaha I understand. I don’t have adhd but looking for underground Bosses, areas etc. really freaks me out TvT And that is part of the fun,of course.
@@milesperhour9256 Yes,I agree. Though,I don’t think there are enough waypoints to cover the whole of each region equally.

i like making maps. i never knew i needed this video
I think the implications of the anemo cube having a path and electro cube not is
sucrose is goin up there for some sort of experiments
I think the anemo hypostasis may have a path because sucrose studies it
If I remember correctly, treasure hoarder on Mondstadt only "spawned" on certain daily quest, not naturally
and leylines I believe
And Barbara's hangout and "That guy"´s quest (with the Mondstadt girl that joined them undercover) and during the TCG festival with the stolen cards.
Let's not forget the one in the beginning in kaeyas quest. Though he's only in cutscenes so I guess he doesn't count
This took so much effort, good grief. Very nicely done!
Guys wake up Beerevity posted
One month no Bee then a 45 min vid? I mean I ain’t complaining
I'd like to put forth the theory that the lack of ruins where there should be some might be because the Hillichurls have repurposed the material for their own settlements. Or maybe the higher ups in Mihoyo just wanted more time spent on Liyue for 1.0
Omg 45 minute Beerevity video, I'm gonna save this one

23:50 iirc this village is where beidou lived according to her hangout event
Map is auto-geneated and stitched. Objects can appear or not depending on whether the layer they're on is checked off or not. Fun fact, at least one Shrine of the Depths was marked incorrectly and appears on tbe map, whereas generally they're made invisible.
7:29 again, generated. When the map was generated, there probably was only one hut. We literally generally toss a camera way up high, use layers or groups to define what should be visible and add a shader (visible to only that camera or something) for certain materials or surfaces art direction if needed. It's possible there's some hand drawn modifications and it's totally possible to have the engine export the map as a multi-layer graphic file, allowing the editor to easily adjust/add/remove different objects. Many games even will generate the map this way in realtime, however Genshin does not.
Also, I should clarify that a lot of the world geometry in games is procedurally generated, if not in realtime then at least during design - so this explains why roads can look the way they do and not as you might expect from my aforementioned sky-cam - as I said, sometimes shaders are used for art direction and a perfect example is roads - you use the path data that proceedurally generates the world geometry/texturing to draw it's path on the map, solving the problem where the actual texture for a road might not show up good from the sky cam (eg. Roads that are barely roads and mostly grass)
I love your videos. We need more silly but serious investigations of teyvat's wacky world

I cannot express how much I appreciate you doing all this.
This had bothered me so much for so long. Especially the missing ruins spots as someone who enjoys lore so much.
Thank you for sharing the maps 💕
THANK YOU!!!! I am literally always griping about the map in this game. The bayda harbor road makes me want to cry so badly. This must have taken ages, and it looks beautiful.
TY so much for publishing the edited maps, those will be great for reference when I'm writing fic! A few notes for you below that might give some context for a few of the locations you mentioned here:
12:14 Hu Tao's story quest features some middle-aged NPCs that used to live in Wuwang Hill when they were young, so it's probably not been abandoned for much more than 20-30 years.
24:05 Per her hangout, Beidou partially grew up in this fishing village, so it's probably also not been abandoned for more then 20-30 years!
At some point I'd love to to look through various in-game sources and see if there's *any* sort of consistency in travel times mentioned, but they're mentioned so infrequently that I'm pressing X to doubt. Plus there are lots of variables like the exact terrain being crossed, what kind of transport is being taken if any, whether you need to switch between water and land travel, whether the person is traveling solo or as a group, and their level of experience with the terrain. I'm not sure if much useful info could be gleaned from mentions like that.
The Liyue abandoned river village based on hangout quest is where either Ningguang or Beidou (not sure which one but leaning towards Beidou) grew up
The abadoned village near the inn in Liyue is a village where Beidou lived as a kid
This is so absolutely stunning and something I had no idea I needed in game until now. NOW, however, it is a NEED. The map looks so much more lively and beautiful being filled in and love how you showed just how much the map can change and how many small details can make such a difference. Id love to see a later patch really focusing on changing the map and regions to smoothing out or explaining the small changes!😊
i genuinely love your channel, because you cover the topics of genshin i actually care about.
Your content is always so fun to watch I had suspicions about the genshin map being weird as I was playing cuz I would notice paths ending on the mini map while still continuing in the world and things like that. While Enkanomiya and Sea of Bygone Eras have no need to be remapped for the same reason as Tsurumi Island (inaccessible until the Traveler arrived)
I think it makes sense for mondstadt's map to be a bit more bare compared to newer areas and for good reasons 1) the genshin team had just started out so keeping things simple might have been the best choice for them at the time 2) i think it makes it easier for players to navigate the main roads and not get overwhelmed, one needs to consider not many are familiar with openworld games, perhaps it's more straightforward and allows players to reach, for example, liyue a bit more easily, tho even with few roads on the map *a lot* of Players go to liyue through dragonspine and suffer the consequences of their own actions (not noticing the path to stone gate which is definitely more friendly than dragonspine, esp for beginners😭 im guilty of that too)
WOOO!!! Almost an hour long video, what a meal
Please never stop what you are doing, I love your videos so so much!!!
I need this map asap in genshin. NOW EVERY TIME I OPEN THE MAP I'M GOING TO BE SO UPSET DANGIT BEEREVITY!!!

i love these capybara, thanks for showing them
This video has a lot of time and effort put into it, I think it deserves a lot more attention
I wish your map was in the game now! Love the video, the map, the humor, and of course the amazing editing.
I love videos like this, things that seem like something someone in teyvat would post and I need more, pls do more 😭💕
9:56 The reason you remember more Treasure Hunters it's because the Book/Money farming locations spawn them in certain places (Stormterror's Lair and near the weapon ascencion materials come to mind).
oh my god, thank you for making this video! the map inaccuracies, especially in Stormterror's lair, have been making me crazy for years 😭
Will you put a download of the fixed map?
I love your additions. Consistency is key.
Mondstadt has treasure hoarder enemies in the leyline crop battles, mostly on the west of mond. I farm them a lot
Been looking for genshin stuff for a while and encountered this video. I fell in love with your voice and content. Instant sub.
I love falling asleep watching your vids at 4am
I'd say that entire economics system is broken. Liyue is a trading port? Who they are trading with then? Inazuma? They were closed off. Well, there is also a Sumeru port in that part of the world. But what else? Mondstadt? Its port probably leads to Snezhnaya more than to Liyue, also they have established ground trading route, which is probably a lot cheaper and easier (because probable water route goes through the Osial domain... I don't think that ships can sail in those treacherous waters)...
