Boy! Spot on with this one. I really like the updated C172. I enjoy watching your videos, and your recommendations and advice have been beneficial to me. Thank you.
Totally agree, previously once in level flight and trimmed out even without AP I could go make a cup of tea, even watch one of your vids, and come back and still stable with minor course corrections needed. Now you have to actually fly the plane!! Huge improvement and so less boring!
So Microsoft and Asobo don't care about us traditionalists who fly with steam gauges! I didn't realise that an electronic instrument panel affected the handling qualities of an aircraft so much that it needed fixing.
AviatorTN83 is correct. If you just turn off the magnetos [actual ignition], and still have mixture in anything but full lean, you will flood the cylinders, making it hard to start the next time. On my aircraft we actually run the rpm up to 1,500, then all electrical off, especially the avionics, then full lean will starve the engine and bring it to a shut down. Then we turn off the magnetos, leaving no unburned fuel sitting at the bottom of the cylinders. Overkill, thanks for another great video.
@@planelander it definitely depends on the aircraft, but for me in the Cessna 172M IRL. we do throttle to 1000 RPM, lean mixture and let the engine die on it's own before switching off ignition and master. It's to prevent unburnt fuel from staying in the cylinders and possibility of it starting back up. Pull mixture out all the way until it dies is the proper way. As magnetos don't require power from battery or alternator to produce spark, they keep running w/o the battery if the engine is running. That's why you starve the engine and just use primer to get fuel in the cylinders on next startup.
I noticed on shutdown you simply turned the mags off. Proper shutdown should be avionics off, mixture full lean, lights off, mags off, master off. Sorry, it bothered me.
I fly the 172s g1000 with ap. I went bck to xplane because that 172 has better physics and proper working system. The database maybe out of date, but it worsk better than msfs.
"Busier" sounds more realistic than the previous flight model with some turbulence. On the other hand, IRL it's much easier to control a 172 approaching a stall than what I remember form the previous flight model. I've downloaded the 9 update but haven't had time to mess with it in the last week, so hopefully I'll make some time and try it out. Sounds like an improvement for realism (though less of a casual "fire up the 172 and mindlessly cruise around".)
Thanks for doing this. I do miss the analogue instrumented C172, though. I'm legally blind, and can't see the tapes. Wish G1000 had a way of zooming the tapes, roll, attitude, and compas out to the edges. don't really need the bottom half of the compas, anyway. At lease, in VR, though, I can lean way forward to get a closer look, but it's still hard to see. I have to just about have my face in contact with the panel, just to read the silk screening on the physical buttons around the G1000 screen. LOL Definitely need bigger numbers in the tapes. At least we do have the C152, which is all analogue. I can at least "gage" the indications by the positions of the hands. Very glad to hear you're working on PDF manuals for the G1000. Surprised something like that wasn't already included in the sim. LOL
A couple of things I have noticed. On the ground: the absence of prop-wash effects: If you compare with the C172 (non G1000) the latter, on the ground brakes on, "shakes" on full power and reacts on tail stabiliser movement. The G1000 does not.. not massively important but it was a "nice to have". In the air: if you try power stall, the C152 areobat performs more realistically that C172 (i.e. without rudder input corrections, it spins on the left hand side - due to prop torque - even if you try to correct with aileron input) the G1000 does not go into a spin at all (at least during my attempts), which I think is not realistic. Again not a massive downside (a normal flight is performed in normal attitude :) ) I will try to make a video to explain (don't expect your level of professionalism, I am not a content creator)
My favorite part of fs2020 so far are the random taxi lights in the middle of the taxiways. Glad they updated the power to taxi, irl its about 1200rpm in any model 172 and then back to 1000.
Would have been nice if they updated the steam gage C172 too, so that the people who bought the effing gold edition would still profit from this. I mean it's the same plane. How hard could it have been?
I am okay with the delay for the steam gauge version. Maybe in a release or two. That way fewer bugs and people still have a 172 to fly. Having said that, I wish someone would make a more "study level" 172. Something like the Airfoil Labs. Details like having to prime the pump, etc, really make it cool.
My rudders still are not working properly. No rudder input and the plane goes in a left circle add full right rudder and it might stay centred even with no wind. Once in the air they work great.
I would never use any plane with glass cockpit. The digits are too small and different to see. Steam gauges are still popular among a lot of real and sim pilots.
Hi OverKill....I know you have your video's but what about occasionally hosting an online Zoom room for going thru various ILS, IFR stuff? Would that ever work?
Hi thanks for the great video as always. How do I know I have the updated C172 Skyhawk G1000 as per your video? The G1000 had an update, but didn't see any for the plane. I have download and installed all the updates etc. But I don't see any improvements? It still takes almost full power to get rolling as always. Is there a way of knowing if that part of the update happened? Many thanks and as always keep up these great videos.. helps us novices so much. Cheers Robert (New Zealand)
Have you got force feedback with your controls? Just wondering for realism. I feel it could make for better emersion especially with the smaller & less fancy planes but more suited to reality. Since reinstall after update 9 I have had no problems with the sim so far. Liked the landing & video as always, Mike
I seem to have issues with the TBM930 after the update. After some trial and error I have the Muggz improvement mod working again, but cannot get the yoke to disappear in the cockpit. It also seems to be flying off from what I would expect. I would love if you could try a flight in the 930 to see if it is working ok for you.

Thank you very much Dale!
The 172 (Steam gauges and G1000) is honestly my favorite plane to put around in the sim. Glad that the default is getting some needed love.

The grounding also, thats handy to know about 1500 rpm before turn off. Will try next flight

I will agree with that across the board! XP11 definitely has the better flight models. Hands down.
I talked to a 172 pilot who agrees the Xplane version is more realistic

20:54 ...body once told me the world was gonna roll me
I fly vr and in a diy motion simulator. The C172 is a new experience. The new turbulence/wind effects are really nice.
That is awesome! I want to look into motion definitely!

I would assume there is some way to enable it on the steam gauge one. Probably just need to copy some stuff over from the config files.
@@FunktasticLucky exactly his point, its the same plane just copy and paste
@@FunktasticLucky I guess. But some intern aat Asobo could have done this.

Probably me but I notice a roll to the right I hadn’t seen before. Let go of the yoke and I’m into a right turn.
SU9 made my cessna 172 G 1000 fly like a bucking Bronco with or without the auto pilot, hope they fix it soon cause everything else isssss better.
I agree!
can you help figure out how to change the control panel back to steam gauge from g 1000
SR22 seems broken, too. Take power to idle, and the plane barely slows.
modded or default?

Hey Overkill, have you noticed that our beloved TBM is broken in VR?
What!? just with the mod or in general??
Hmmmmm why not update the Steam Gauge version as well. I really don’t understand their thinking.
Nice video, but are you a bit sick man? Not sure if its my audio, but you don't sound 100%.
LOL no.. just tired lol. But I truly appreciate the concern Melon
More right rudder
Yeah learned that one the hard way lol!
