Yes, this song is from a motion picture. It was common practice in the 1960's for rock and pop singing groups and bands to make cameo singing appearances in theatrical motion pictures even though the songs had nothing to do with the movie.
Eric Burdon & the Animals' "San Franciscan Nights" is a great snapshot of the Bay Area circa 1967, but then I have to agree with other commenters about Quicksilver Messenger Service. They were at the heart of the SF sound and now almost forgotten. "Fresh Air" and "What About Me" are just amazing songs and feature the brilliant Nicky Hopkins on piano.
I would like to see you react to the Yardbirds particularly their early album "Five Live Yardbirds" that has a great version of "Smokestack Lightning" on it. The Yardbirds were a distinctive, innovative, cutting-edge band alongside the Animals, the Kinks, and the Who that introduced guitarists Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page to the world.
Barry Mann and Cynthia Weill wrote this song was written for the Righteous Brothers, believe it or not as a follwo-up to You Lost This Loving Feeling. Eric wore that red shirt for years.

Fun song, but we used to snicker, if not guffaw, at the idea of “warm San Francisco nights.” It’s not a SF thing-perhaps LA.
