The reason I heard Hylton Valentine (lead guitar, behind Eric) was laughing was because off camera, studio technicians were secretly wheeling Alan Price (organ), seated on his little dais and still playing, to the front of the set for that final shot where they take their bow. Hylton started cracking up at this little bit of absurdity, and since there was no time (or money?) for another take, the laughter had to stay in! 😀
That's what I'd heard.i can't believe how many reactions I've seen of this and they don't even notice him 😂
Thanks for the nugget o' knowledge, I kept trying to figure out why he was smiling so big, and it makes sense now.
Eric burdon vocal.chas Chandler bass.hilton valentine guitar.john steeldrums
Alan price keyboard.chas and Hilton are gone.eric still performs check out winds of change album from 1968.
I often noticed this but had no idea how Allan moved without it being obvious. knowing he was wheeled makes sense . What i do love is how you wouldn’t t notice it if you had never seen the video
Yeah, that's what I thought - it was getting the keyboardist into position. I didn't know they had to wheel him. Even funnier 😅
The walking around simulates Funeral Marches in New Orleans where music is played on the way to cematary.
Eric Burdon' s voice was so unique. Legendary performance. Great reactions.
LOVE HIS VOICE
It's high
"Dont Let Me Be Misunderstood" is another great one from Animals
OK
@@RaineyTv Singer still singing at 80 years old. He was 23 then.
The Bess player was The Manager of Jimi Hendrix:)
Hard to believe Eric Burden is over 80 now. Try their song We Got To Get Out Of This Place, Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood. We used to rock to these great songs in the 60’s.
They chose this song to close their set as support for Chuck Berry on his uk tour. They recorded it nine days later in one take & it went straight to number one around the world. The vocalist's name is Eric Burdon & Alan Price, who went on to have a successful solo career, is playing his Vox Continental keyboard. The bass player is Chas Chandler who was responsible for introducing Berry to the uk.
I was 16 when the "British invasion" of music swept all over the world, led by The Beatles. That was a magical time. The Animals were an integral element of that wave. I played their "Best of" album over and over and over. "The House of the Rising Sun" was their first hit single in 1964. It's a gas to see the young generation, as these two reactioners, rediscover the music that was a big part of my teenage and early adult years. Eric Burdon was in the Animals, War and also had a solo career.
In my opinion Burdon sounds very American and with the context that he is singing about. Was shocked to hear that he and the band is British
Real music and real musicians
1000% ❤
Alan Price was the name of the organist. He was very successful in his own right. An anecdote, there was a competition an children readily sent in tapes. But one sent in a music score, and Alan admitted he had never learned a o read music. He taught himself to play piano.
This song is a Legend. The song tells of hard times for a family in New Orleans. The best version ever recorded is by the British Rock Band "The Animals" in 1964. I was 14 years old in the U.S. and will never forget this song. Their recording hit #1 on the UK Singles Chart and in the United States and Canada. It is still great today.
It’s a great version, but the song is way older than the New Orleans version, this is an old folk song from south west England, same theme tho, about the temptation of the devil.
@@iamthecaptainofmysoul2293 Yes, I was aware of that. The song goes back to at least 1923 in the United States recorded by a number of musicians from the 1920s ,1930s, 1940s, 1950s and finally the Animals in 1960s and can also be traced back to England with different lyrics and title. The first group that I could find that used the current title with the current lyrics, and rocked it up by using electronic guitars and an electronic organ during the performance, was the Animals. Prior to them, it was an acoustic folk song with different titles and different lyrics.
It’s great when all the elements of a song mesh together so perfectly that it becomes unassailable. There are other versions of this song but everything here puts it above them. The constant steady drumbeat as a base, the bass as a heartbeat , the guitar melody as a familiar friend and the organ giving this version its distinctive style. Eric Burdon’s voice is what cemented it in people’s soul.
Great reaction.
The Animals were one of the biggest groups to come out of the British Invasion in the 1960's. This was their first (of many) hit.
I think my late grandfather could play this song by-ear. He couldn't read music, but god he had a phenomenal ear and could play it so great, and put his own spin on it. Rest In Peace Grandfather Leslie John Robertson (20/9/1928 - 21/01/2021) fly High and wait for me Pops. Ask me for a photo of my Maternal Grandfather. The Animals were a rock group from Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom
Lead singer's voice is the best.
They also did a video of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood in the same session.
They may have rehearsed the video shots, but I believe they recorded this song in one take, that is musicianship.
Walking slowly in a row as if in a New Orleans funeral, with crosses around them...
This particular video is from a British TV show called “Pop Gear” (a play on another show “Top Gear”). The Animals also did another performance on the show of their hit “Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”. Of course it was rehearsed and choreographed, but no auto tune or other digital tricks lie in todays videos and performances, just talent and mastery.
all time classic! ♥
Filmed in 1964, this is from Pop Gear (1965), which was shown in movie theaters to introduce US audiences to the British Invasion bands. The music is the studio version. Eric Burdon is lip synching and the instruments are unplugged.
Oh, and Natalia's sunny personality is absolutely adorable. ;)
🙏🙏
It’s my life by the Animals
My favourite from them is the I'm mad again.
They had lotsa hits. The bass player made Jimi Hendrix famous.
ANIMALS, "HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN". This was my first favorite young people's rock and roll song. Eric Burden singer had a great gruff sounding voice. I was 8 years old when I knew the style of music I would follow. More Animal's tracks. "WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE", "DON'T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD", "BRING IT ON HOME TOO ME".
The bass player Bryan James "Chas" Chandler would later manage Jimi Hendrix. RIP
The original song House of The Rising Sun, pre-dates the city of New Orleans. Fact. No rehearsal before this take from Eric Burton and The Animals. I've heard several different stories, for reasons of their own, they had enough money for one take in front of the camera... this performance. This was back when vocal and instrumental talent was actually all you heard. I listened to The Animals quite a lot in the '60s. This is one of the songs you never forget, nor do you forget the lyrics. Evens decades later.
This bass player, Chas Chandler, discovered and managed Jimi Hendrix.
The big guy playing guitar went on to become Jimi Hendrix's manager.
More Animals!
On keyboard is the great Alan Price.
Just a quick update, don't forget the one and only Alan price on orgen.
The Animals had many hits. The lead Singer Eric Burdon went on have successful solo career
Alan Price on organ.Eric Burdon singer. They had many hits back in the day .Try Dont let me be misunderstood.
Thanks guys! The Animals have a long list of music. I'm sure you can look most of it up on RUclips.
This video was taken from a British movie called Pop Gear that featured performances by British artists from 1964.
It's an organ.
I really enjoyed your comments on the video. Particularly the technical aspects; like the production techniques, the flow and scene changes and the little extras like the "manically grinning guitarist" towards the end. There are so many elements, in addition to the fantastic music, that make it an outstanding video. Well done.
How times have changed. The band had only enough money to rent the studio for about an hour, so this entire video was done in one take.
not the video (they're miming the music, note the guitars aren't plugged in), the music recording - although maybe there was only one take for the video as well, I'm not sure. The sound was one take though. Amazing!
@@crowfoot1199 I'm aware they're miming the music...that's pretty much every music video ever, with a few exceptions, such as Bohemian Rhapsody.
@@crowfoot1199 I spy an Ice Warrior, by the way.
@@sixstanger00 heeeh yes that's right! taken from one of the displays at the now-gone Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff!
@@sixstanger00 Bohemian Rhapsody wasn't mimed?? I did not know that. Sorry for stating the obvious then. I thought you had meant the video but had heard about the music track, as it looked like others had done - but maybe you meant both? I know very little about the film. Certainly looks very possible they only had one hour to film for the movie, I mean, lookit Valentine grinning up there lol. Cheers
this was filmed for a tv program in the US. One of the most obvious parts of it was the fixed camera positions which necessitated them walking around the room in a row like that. they moved, the camera didnt. The suits were really hot for the time. Alan Prices Hammond Organ playing was famed and played for many many years as a solo artist too. Real cheesy sixties sound, brilliant.
Great band back in the 60s , glad you enjoyed this, I grew up listening to them. Let's say I won't see 65 again,😁
"she sewed my new blue jeans". Bet you can't guess what that means. So, I'll tell you. Back in the late 50s early 60s, blue jeans or dungarees were overly-long in the legs. It was the style back then to wear them with cuffs at the bottom which had to be sewn to stay rolled up. It had to be done well or it looked bad.
So funny, it’s not a piano but more like a keyboard organ or whatever it is, just from my knowledge lol. Great reaction!
Love the performance and video. Would enjoy seeing a wider view to see how the organ player + organ got up to the front where and when the song ended. Maybe that's what the guitarist was smiling about -- the organist getting "wheeled" up front.
This was done in one take.
The story may be that this was shot in one take, but Price and the organ appear in front of the set at the end, whereas the he was in back for most of the video. I have a hypothesis that Price picked up the organ and moved it forward just off camera, causing Valentine to crack up.
the sound recording was one take, but this video was for a film (Pop Gear, or Go-Go Mania if you were in the US).
Eric Burdon is a rebel teenage singer. :D
Yea. We had film in the sixties and we had wheels to move a camera.
So great song that even my piano cover sounds good!!! 😉😉
Great Great Song by the Animals !
Terry jacksons "Seasons in the sun" s another goodie, one of those if the song makes tear up you had a great childhood.
I was born in 1964 and this is one of the best songs EVER
one of the best-loved live performances is disco inferno by the tramps a lot of really cool songs from time anyway one love from the uk

Smooth reaction, you did good 🙂
That was done in one take
Yeah The House of the rising Sun was also the name of a prison in New Orleans in that area. They didn't have much money when they did their first recording of this song they got it on the first take. It's true the only had enough money for one take. That's all they needed. The big guy you see playing a guitar discovered Jimi Hendrix
Not a piano------------it's a Vox continental organ--- Eric Burdon on vocals-Alan Price on Organ -they had many hits-hilton valentine on guitar-chas chandler on bass-John Steel on drums
great girl reaction! Greetings fro Mexico.
1964.........................it had to start from somewhere now didn't it :) Peace and Love
This song was used a lot but I remember the end of Casino. They used We Gotta Get Out Of This Place in Hamburger Hill Great movie.
They did it in one take in 64 it was expensive to do more back then
Eric Burdon the lead singer is 83 years old now and still singing his butt off.
My bday Oct 28 -1964 they came out 64 they are great Don't let me be miss understood
Social media had changed our relationship with celebrity. When someone posted this august cover on Twitter recently, I happened to remark that guitarist Hilton Valentine hadn't received the memo about looking stern. Only to receive a Like from... Hilton Valentine...
The bass player was Jimmy Hendrix mannager
Thank you
Jimi :)
So look at that. Where'd the keyboard man come from?!?!?!?! He WAS back there behind the DRUMMER. So while that was being filmed, during the filming, the stage hands rolled his but to the FRONT of the shot for the ending. That was what the Guitarist was grinning about. He was watching it right next to him just off camera.
This singer remembers me to Eric Burdon or his cousin, maybe.
This was probably from a tv show. Might of been the Ed Sullivan Show.
No they did this in one take, because the band at the time couldn't afford to do retakes, they had also driven hours from a performance the night before with no rest and did a second song after this.
Alan Price is playing a VOX Continental. A lot of bands starting using them after this.
Check out Eric burton, doing spill the wine , with the group War,.😊
the story is this was done in a single take in the studio (15 - 20 minutes) between gigs.
Eric Burden was 17 years old when this was recorded.
How many hits they have? Many...... 🙂
These clip's look Perfect on video tape 📼 This guy⬆️ doesn't know what he's talking about!!!!

I was doing a paper round when this record came out.

It was done in one take
So funny! she feels reminded by them to RHCP, and he responses in the way ," no idea what ya' talkin' 'bout b***h". No nice behavior, if having a guest on your reaction.
Video Was Recorded in One Take
No rehearsal one take did not have money to do more no auto tune either you had it ornot
The studio gave them 30min i believe to record the video and it was taken in 1 shot. I may be wrong but i have read that somewhere.
You should check out the Tokens- the lion sleeps tonight, they sound just like they did in the sixties
Blonds have more fun and great looking
Hey the animals are from where I'm from Newcastle upon Tyne
These guys paid for their own recording, literally had 3 chances to cut the record, that’s it. The video is from much later.
1964. Actual VIDOE was only about 8 yrs old. This may have been on FILM.
Most people don't know that this is a cover.
MMy dad was from LIVE TV before VIDOE. He was a comera man. He did that crap on the FLY.
VOX Continental, one of the first electric ORGANS
Interestingly, this band came from Newcastle in the north east of England. Not that you would know that from listening to them. I see these sorts of performances as exercises in role playing. Here, Eric Burdon, the singer, is merely acting out the role of a black American singer. He plays his part well but he's a million miles ( well 3000+ miles, actually) from the real deal. BTW, The Animals got this song from Bob Dylan's first album. Bob, in turn, pinched it from his friend Dave Van Ronk. Indeed, I think we can thank Dave for taking a old bluesy version of the song and turning it into the song we know today by adding a different chord progression which in turn created a more memorable melody.
@TheRealJukebox No! Bob first album was released in 1962. BTW, The Animals first single "Baby can I take you home" was a reworking of the song "Baby can I follow you down" which was, like "The House of the Rising Sun" , on Bob"'s first album. And, as to the song not being from the States, well, it it supposed to have originated in England but in a version unrecognisable from the song we now know.
Alan Price…. Keyboards, look out to review his song “my name is little Alan Price” he sings well as well as he plays keyboard.
