My Mama made the best Muscadine Jelly I ever tasted! She never used Pectin in any jelly she made and it always come out perfect and delicious! I still have 2 pints of jelly that Mama made the Fall before she passed! One is Muscadine and one is Strawberry! Thank you Miss Lori for bringing back such Sweet Memories! God Bless. 🙏🙏❤❤👏👏
I don’t use pectin either mine sets up ever time, I don’t like jelly that has pectin, my Mom passed a few years ago I still have a few jars of her fig preserves can't bring myself to eat it! 😊
Again you brought back a lovely childhood memory. We grew up with muscadines, cuspanines and concord grapes. Don't know who planted them, but we sure enjoyed them.
I have the same kind of chinois and pestle on a stand like you do. I use it a lot for tomatoes, muscadines, and blackberries. I love how it makes blackberry jam creamy like butter. I love how you do things the old fashioned way with a modern twist. 👩🌾🫙 🍇
Great video. Thank you. I loved the tip about running your finger through and rotating the plate to see if it’s setting up. Thank you for that great tip. I love your videos, Lori. Hope you and Mr. Brown are doing well. 😃Donna Cooper😃
Love that sieve and press...your family can treasure that for generations. I love me some Muscadines! Once my uncle brought us about 3 gallons in a 5 gallon bucket. Momma had no idea how many I had eaten that evening when she wasn't looking...the next morning I was broke out head to toe in a rash! She took me to the doctor thinking it was an allergy to the grapes, but the doctor determined I was only allergic to the quantity I had eaten! 😅
My grandmother had 1 of these strainers with dowel and I would borrow it every year for my spaghetti sauce. I prefer using the old timey ways I believe the flavor is much better. Hers was aluminum. I found a stainless steel 1 online so am going to get it. I have some Muscadine vines on my porch with teeny tiny grapes. About 2 handfuls.
That is our favorite jelly. Muscadines are hard to find now, and we use to pick them every year, but the vines are not there anymore. I was told people get them to make wreaths now. They are so good.
I made muscadine jelly two weeks ago. We have a vineyard near and I feel blessed to have found out about it. My childhood favorite jelly! Thanks for sharing 😊
That looks wonderful! It took 5 years before our grapes produced in Alabama, from when I planted them. But when they started, they went crazy! I have a food mill almost identical to that. It belonged to my mother in law. It sat on top of her fridge all the years I knew her. It now sits on top of my hoosier with some silk flowers in it.
I'm hoping my muscadines will mature and start producing, Possum grapes took over my garden fence, only got 2 little clusters Starting over on a new place takes years to get plants established, and producing, I'm just impatient, lol
This is wonderful ❤️ Last time I got Muscadines and Scuppernongs was at a U-Pick-It farm in Elberta, Alabama. I love the fruit and jelly but also the wine too. ❤
This is so perfectly timely! I just harvested the last of my muscadine grapes. This is the first year our vine has produced. I’ve never worked with them before and I’m so looking forward to making jelly and maybe grape juice! Thank you!
So good to see you. I've missed seeing you two. Your jelly looks delicious. I have never heard of this fruit but my curiosity has stirred. We just finished eating a pint of muscadine grapes we got at the grocery store. Never had the jelly, but we yave had the wine and the juice. Muscadine grows here in Florida, and there are vineyards in North Florida that are beautiful, and you can tour them and sample the wine and juices.
