please please please advocate for longer key travel to Lenovo. They really need to know that the key travel was what kept the thinkpad good. These new ones are shallow and hurt your hand A LOT! Thinness doesn't add much value as much as improving the very thing that distinguished thinkpads from every other generic laptop.
Awesome review once again Andrew!! Lenovo usually makes great laptops, this one being no exception. It is a good-looking chassis and I love that it is 16" with a 16:10 display. The quality of the 1080p webcam is excellent, however, the quality of the internal mics is somewhat poor. All and all, a decent portable laptop to take on the go.
@@reviewchan9806 I have not noticed the fans go super lound but I am just a data science student. I noticed it gets warm after 4-5 hrs of continuos usage but it used to happen with my older systems as well.
@@crazycrypto9454 it’s pretty nice I myself use for photoshop editing. So it does not really get slow or hot. But don’t know if it lags. Pretty sturdy laptop.
Great review, but I'm struggling with an apparent discrepancy between observations here and your earlier unboxing video. In the earlier video, you had described the performance of the Xeon CPU as mediocre. Yet in this review you gave "performance" a rating of 10. I'm not sure how to reconcile those; can you provide more detail in how the CPU performance factored into this review's rating? Thanks!
Nice PC. Port selection excellent. Like the easy access to the insides for user upgrades. For a mobile workstation or any PC 15 inch or larger this should have a full size tenkey on it. These manufacturers should offer two iterations of these units one with a tenkey and the other without. This way they can satisfy both camps of users. Now one can use the argument about the additional cost of doing this but this is already costly. As in the First Looks video the 1080p webcam was nice and clear but the microphones on this sounded badly muffled. This seems to be true for this video also. Lenovo needs to work on this especially for the price one is paying for this. I noticed you mentioned that there are no USB-C 170 Watt power blocks. That is because of the power limitations of the USB-C port. Even if the power block was larger the limitation of the USB-C port would still limit the charging capability using this method. Also noticed when you order this PC with a custom configuration on the Lenovo web site the ship date is 2 months +. Something to be aware of if ordering this from them. Still this is a great PC fort the type of users it is aimed for. Great review as always.
I bought p1 gen4 rtx3080 gpu and together with thunderbolt 4 workstation dock. I am very disappointed with the laptop and the dock. The laptop in the beginning was a fan noise factory, only resolved with firmware upgrades, but still fan is always on and noisy. the technical Support is slow and not helpful.the technical support only proposes to return the device for repair, i can not even find a contact email to ask how to replace the dock with higher power output. Dockstation is powerful enough to charge the laptop, the battery level decreases even while the original charger is connected to the laptop. Lenovo? no! never again!
Great review Andrew! I’m considering to get this bad boy with a 4tb raid0 (2tb ssd x2). I work with very large files I need to access quickly (biomedical research). Would the second (gen3) ssd slot limit the speed of the raid0 substantially? Thanks!
I am wondering which models come with the vaour chamber in the ThinkPad P1 Gen 4? What are the possible customizwhns? With your positive reviewiths, I have found that often when I asked Lenovo Sales people, they had no idea of a vapour chamber that existed inside this device. Any help is apprciated.
Purchased mine last week and having battery issues. At full charge its saying i only have 1 hr and 52 mins. I've disabled my dedicated GPU. Any thoughts? Thinking of returning and getting a carbon x9 instead...
They doing it because they crammed a processor that has way too much wattage. The fans run constantly. If it had a U series processor, it would have been infinitely better, lighter, quiet, efficient, and USB-C for everything.
That microphone sounds really tinny and poor quality, especially for a premium laptop marketed for the business side of things. Considering how common Zoom meetings are now, it's quite dissapointing. I do appreciate you giving a sample of it.
Disaster!! Can't get any support! Email support but never gets an answer anywhere! Have so many awful problems with my P1 Gen4 so it's embarrassing! I now hate my brand new computer due to all the problems! Obvious quality problems, color missing on keyboard buttons, fans jerking, white spot on the screen, battery life max 4h, longer battery life on macbook 15 "from 2011, bios updates that kill usb-c / TB4 ports, bluetooth problems, fan problems, sleep mode don't work properly (hot even though led is fading), usb-chime sounds al the time. Fresh windows 10 install with all drivers updated. Catastrophically Embarrassing!
This computer is so stupid and with no quality checks before selling to customers! I have color peeling off from keyboard on 3 keys, two BSoD, no way to turn computer off in BSoD (power button not responding), front most USB-A port is unreliable and fails large file copies to externa drive, computer running HOT in sleepmode (leds fading), bluetooth freezes every other second, computer sometimes loops every other minute with chimes like it is unplugging usb, rolling back to bios 1.14 due to dead usb-c ports, white spot in display... AND THE WORST PART IS THAT LENOVO WONT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE IT! Blaiming the customer because it is "cosmetics" and doesn't cover by warranty, the customer has to pay!! Can only state lenovo is mafia BLACK MAILING its customers, sending out broken computers and only accept repair if the costumer pays even more!! I have been trying for over 4 months to get a replacement unit or repair, it was hard to even get an answer from the support! Eventually got an email to global pr at lenovo who send me to EMEA team, well they are only wasting my time blaming me for the "cosmetic" faults....

recently got one from work with i9-64GB-1TB-RTX3080. loves it. compare to my coworkers P17 G2, its much lighter and same powerful
You have some of the best, cleanest, easy to use/understand and TONs of into broken up nicely.... Keep up the great work.

I received my P1 Gen 4, 3 weeks ago till now its been super awesome. Especially better and less heavy than my earlier P52.
How constant are the fans? These laptops have been plagued by having a processor that draws too much power at Idle and run crazy hot.

gen 5 has now been released. When do you think you could make a video or maybe a comparison with gen 4? That would be awesome.
Thank you for your review! Will you also review the Thinkpad P1 Gen 5 laptop? How does ir compare to the Thinkpad P1 Gen 4 laptop?

Usually that I know, Xeon is Workstation and Server CPU and Wow, it also available for Mobile Computer
Great video and good machine! Lenovo needs to add the OLED, 5G with the higher end gpus, and dual gen4/5 slots.
Very cool machine Andrew 👍👍👍. Excellent work as always

I heard that your SSD's will both run on the slower speed. Which is to be honest not slow and you might not notice it.
Great video. Would it be worth buying now or waiting for the updated version with the newly announced chips?
Depends on if you need something now
I'm starting to really like the lenovo brand. And as always AMD love your reviews 👍

It looks like in X1 version you can't get the Core i9 only Core i7, and in P1 of course you can get Xeon as well.
