Thanks Marly I’ve had this pattern since forever but put off making it because I wasn’t confident of getting through it but now thanks to your tutorial it explains a lot. I’m going to give it a go now as I really like the pattern
very pretty started making while enjoying your video i have been crocheting since i was 12 yrs old. Now 59 love new ideas an love your uptake .THANK YOU.
I love this shawl pattern. I am also learning how to read the chart and am finding it a lot easier and faster than reading the written pattern. Thank you for this tutorial !!
Thank You Very Much, Marly! 🤗 Like it with the worsted weight for demonstration purposes. Very easy to see & understand your guidance. The chart is fabulous 👏👍😉 Love the loops all around the shawl/scarf. Beautifully designed. 🤡 Therese Pisarcik 🧶
I’m a beginner. I just finished Row 12. Who else low key lost their mind because she’s no longer holding our hand?? Please don’t tell me I’m the only one... My prayer.... Dear Chart, please stay with me and guide me to the very end of this labor of love. My first time actively using a chart to confirm what I’m hearing and doing. What a treat this has been so far. 🤞🏽🧶🤞🏽
Beautiful shawl. Gonna finish WIP and make it for myself. Marly, you are the ONLY crocheter I have seen on RUclips who holds their thread and hook the same as I do.
I love this for the lacy way it looks. I didn't know what to do with a #4 weight red yarn my daughter gave me. I am starting this today for an afghan so thank you from Lodi, CA.
A very clear tutorial, Mary... and beautiful pattern....especially for me, a beginner..😘😍

Marly, kenarları bu şekilde yapman çok iyi. Tekrar kıyılarına oya yapmaya gerek kalmıyor. Verdiğin faydalı fikirler için teşekkürler. Türkiye'den selam ve sevgiler.
Just finished the project. It's gorgeous. Thank you so much for the tutorial. I learned so much on how to follow a classic "visual" crochet pattern. Thank you!! I feel so accomplished.
Just have to say huge thank you. I have a difficult time with patterns sometimes. But with your step by step especially with the chart way easy peasy. Thank you thank you
Thanks for great instructions. I also hold stitches as u instructed to keep even. I noticed in a lot of videos this is not done. Glad u addressed it. This will really help in my chart reading
#marlybird you explained how to do this pattern so beautifully. I just learned how to read charts with the #bicraftychampionsworkshop and I now love them. Thank you for being such a good teacher and so dedicated.
I've noticed rows with the double half crochet has a different beginning and end. I'm reading the chart. I love the way you teach, so easy to follow along
Love charts because they make it easy to see the what your stitch should look like , also because I am Australian our stitches are different .what you call a DC we calla treble etc. Written patterns can be a pain .
I crochet very much like that i do the same with all my stitches it makes it easier and incontrol of the stitches they look neater too if ur a beginner it really helps.
The last treble of the 2nd row (9:50) wouldn't it make more sense to keep it tidier & consistent with the starting chain at the beginning, to do it into the top of the stitch below rather than into the chain space? I'm a kinda experienced newbie so still learning, so any input or ideas/advice would be greatly appreciated 😃👍
So gorgeous! I’m going to make one as a Christmas present. Thank you, Marly, for always giving us very clear patterns, and helping us understand them. Your tutorials are always informative, fun, and professional. It has to be an insane amount of work, yet you always go above and beyond!💖🧶
Love this pattern and downloaded the written pattern, but just because I need it right now, I did the first few rows until the mesh, went on with the mesh and did the ending like the beginning, I live in Germany so I used the GRÜNDL BABY COLOR No 8, beautiful spring colors 😍👍💯
Thank you for a great Tutorial. I am so tired of triangle shawls. Love rectangle shawls and trapezoid shaped ones. Maybe you can design a trapezoid shawl.... Have good day.
Thank you Marly. Another for when I get my 3 Afghans finished ...... I’ll have to explore the wool, not sure if it can be obtained here in Australia (but I’m hoping🤞🏻.) 😊. The colours in the picture make me feel at peace. Beautifully explained as always, credit to you. 🐨🐨
Hello! Just wanted to point out that your chart, and also the one on the Red Heart website has rows starting with a 4 chain and 3 half doubles, rather than a 5 chain and 3 doubles. I also double checked the video, and the chart you are using is the same as the current 😬 Not sure if it makes a difference on the outcome, but I’ll try to follow to the chart, since you taught me how to read a chart pretty well. Thank you for that! 😁
Absolutely! You need to figure out if the gauge you get with the yarn you choose will work with the numbers in the pattern, and if they don’t simply make adjustments. Either increase or decrease two 2-dc groups at a time when you start :)
Great tutorial, thanks! I love how you teach by referring to the chart. I’m an established beginner and this is something I need to master. As a lefty it can get confusing.
Dear Marly, Thank you for the free pattern and tutorial. I'm making this scarf with lovely cotton to ware it in spring/summer. ➡️I'm a little confused about row 7 🙄 The pattern says beg-hdc-shell (beginning half double crochet shell) = (Slip st, ch 4, 3 hdc) in indicated stitch, but in the video I see you doing the: beg-hdc-shell. To be sure I am following the pattern as written and drawn...
great video- slight problem though - you start row 7 the same as all the others when it starts with a 4ch and 3 hdc not the usual - just thought you should know.
@@MarlyBird maybe the chart is updated but on my copy it has just the 4 ch - anyway I doubt one chain would make that much difference when it's the loopy edge but just thought it could confuse some who are just starting to use charts - still love your vids - even if I have to translate back to Aussie [UK] terms in my head lol
Great shawl! Just a question. In the diagram, row 7 starts with 4 chains & a cluster of half double. You are keeping the same as previous rows. Is there a reason for this (keeping it consistent?), but won't it make the height difference visible if you make the sides with doulbles & a treble & the mid part with half doubles? (or is the diagram wrong?) Thanks for all nice tutorial Marly!!
I this pattern, and was excited to find a pattern for my it's a rap rainbow yarn that I already had! When I tried to down load the pattern I could only get the pattern it I purchased the yarn. This is the second time this has happened. I hope there is away to get around this as I like the patterns.
How do I tell, when reading a chart, if I'm going into the top of a stitch/into the chain or into a chain space/space between stitches? That's the only part, as a newbie to charts, that I'm getting a bit stuck on atm. Thanks for any help!! 🙂❤️
Hi Marly, under the free pattern instructions, it says "To work the last lace section in same yarn colors as first lace section, before you join the 2nd cake of yarn unwind the cake so that you can begin at about the same color as the last row of the first lace section and work towards the lighter-colored end of the cake". I am about to start this shawl, can you kindly explain that? I assume that I don't start to crochet from the centre pull yarn?
Essentially, you will work from color A of the ball to color D of the ball...then on the second ball work from color D to color A. Does that make sense? (Note: I just used A and D as an example).
@@MarlyBird Hi Marly, I am @ Row 12, from the chart, it says repeat row 15 and 16 to a total of 28 rows, but the written instructions say for row 12-27 repeat row 4 and 5 for 7 times. I am very confused, hope that you can advise me.
It is definitely a beautiful Shar but I’m going to stop watching it because it is definitely not something that I could do. I’m 74 and I’ve been crocheting for two years. Thank you.
I am working on my second lacy shawl. I love your videos. Alicia Valdez from McAllen Texas

Rows 7, 12, 29, and 34 begin and end differently than all of the other rows if you follow the chart. Good catch!
Very pretty, can you do this pattern in size 3 or 4 weight yarn like you are using in this tutorial?

Marly Bird: instead of working lengthwise can this pattern be worked widthwise? I think I would enjoy that look better.
Thank you:)
I like this pattern...no chaining 357. Ha! It's a beautiful shawl.
I’m so right there with you!!!
Mary, I wanna make the wider shawl... what should I do for the pattern? Should It multiply 11 of the groups of base chains, or what? Help me pls...

May I ask why a Susan Bates crochet hook? I didn't have any Susan Bates crochet hooks so I purchased the G,H and I hook.
MARLY, I am working on this beautiful shawl. I would love to print out the pattern but don’t know where to find it. Can you help me with that?
Can you make a tutorial for gloves

thank you for this georgeous pattern, but i dont find it at you marly bird free pattern site. can you help me?

Hi Mary I have a question how do you keep the design on the same side as you crochet
I’m not sure what you mean.
¡Lástima! está muy bonito pero no consigo el estambre.
You don’t show the finished shawl?
I didn't have the finished shawl to show.
Hola , muy lindo pero podría tener subtítulos en Español porfavor
Me gustaría que lo pasarán español también

I don’t know how to read or look at patterns. I’m a beginner and slow. I can only follow…
Be patient. You will get there. It takes time.
You are so sweet madam... Thanks for this design

Am I missing something. The "Free Pattern" is Only After You Buy the Yarn? No Thanks.
No, it’s free without buying the yarn. You might have to log into the site to download the pattern but it’s free for sure.
