I particularly enjoy seeing niche builds like this. It would be a treat to see a niche build for each character that allows them to be fabulously charismatic.
That's such a cool class combination. I love these niche builds with Pact of the Blade to cheat on attribute dependence and enable weird combinations of 3~4 classes.
I think Actor is underrated because people really underestimate how often Performance comes up and you can also get advantage on those checks with Thaumaturgy. I don’t trust Ethel’s hair to proc in Honour mode so I’m using Actor on my current thief/swords bard run. Great video by the way!
Man, I love your vids. I just started playing bg3 recently and completed my first playthrough yesterday without any tutorials or outside interference, but now I'm looking for cool builds I can use in my next playthroughs. You're really entertaining and informative, and your passion for the game is obvious and infectious. Keep up the good work man!
Ive been running a cross of 3 wild magic barb/9 Fiend Warlock. With the hat of fire acuity, ever burn blade, and thermodynamo gloves it's a real "controlled chaos" build. You build arcane acuity really fast with any fire attack, although scorching rays is fastest, and follow up with a 95% hit fireball, and then rage for your wild magic. Just make sure you're using your heat conversion or you'll take a small amount of fire damage.
Love an obscure Warlock build! I do think that Warlock 8/Barbarian 4 would be better a better split though for fire shield, level 4 slots on armour of agathys, and you could take alert as your third feat
Great build ! Aestus presented a cleric/barbarian tank build that looked incredible as well (with warding bond). Love those niche stuff. Btw, you should emphasise that you're not building in an "item-dependancy" way, which is very easy to become used to in BG3, because I can't stand some of those low-IQ comments anymore T_T
Nice return/retaliate damage with armor of agathys, hellish rebuke, bonespike garb and the skinburster. However with only level 3 spellsloths you won't get too much value from armor of agathys (warlock+barb tripple attack likely more than makes up for it tho). However if one wanted to lean really heavily into return damage you could go for: -A halfling (for halfling luck on saving throws) -Levels: 1 in sorcerer (constitution saving throw proficiency and cold: armor of agathys) 1 in cleric (a heavy armor + martial weapons domain) 10 in bard college of swords (pick up spirit guardians with magical secrets) (might want to be a college of lore bard prior to 10 levels in bard for magical secret access). This makes you a level 12 spellcaster with access to both: armor of agathys, spirit guardians, heavy armor, martial weapons and double attack). However unlike a barbarian this build will have no innate resistances, so it will require warding bond (possibly using the act 2 rings to establish a pair of warding bonded characters) to maximize return damage per cast of armor of agathys and greatly increase overall durability. between being a halfling, getting level 16 consitution+ and profficiency with constitution saving throws, you will only ever lose your spirit guardians if you roll two 1's in a row. (or take some absurd amount of damage in a single instance (50+ to need a roll greater than 2 to succeed).
Melth gave me this idea, but someone could theoretically have Warlock adjacent powers minus the pact because they spent a LOT of time in the Hells, like Karlach! Naturally absorbing the power over time. I actually find this reasoning quite compelling, as she did largely spend her time with the fallen Archangel turned Devil Zariel.
I really like this idea, as Karlach was said to be Zariel’s pet guard, and Mizora, the underling of Zariel, is the patron that gives Wyll the only Warlock powers we actually see on an origin character. (minus the narrative dissonance from GOO and Fey subclass) Makes sense that Karlach may have been soaking it up in secret, waiting for that chance to break out. Now she is narratively a Barblock before you even meet her, and she fits right in the story that way. I love it, and I’m starting a Wyll run where he realizes that he got the short end of the stick by pacting when she didn’t have to lol.
Or she could be channeling some of the waste hellfire heat from her infernal engine into magic. We already know she knows how to install parts in the engine from her interactions with Dammon, so it stands to reason she could be tacking on some bits fuel new abilities.
Great build, I'm actually running this with Karlach on my current campaign! I've got her as Berserker for a 4th attack, rather than Bearheart, and instead I'm relying on a Warding Bond to my 'Abjuration Wizard / Cleric' Wyll for damage resistance. One thing that's playing really well with this build is the Arcane Synergy gear: - the diadem adds Arcane Synergy upon inflicting a condition - the ring adds Arcane Synergy upon casting a cantrip. With Arcane Synergy, your spellcasting modifier is added to the damage roll and, because you have high charisma and you attack 4x per round, this can easily mean an extra 20 damage per round - it's like a mini Great Weapon Master! Its also a fun way to explore status effects like reverb and radiating orb as you are incentivised to inflict conditions to proc your attack bonus.
I would have assumed 3 barb/9 warlock for stronger AoA. Maybe dump CON, wear the health amulet, and raise DEX. Maybe even 3 barb, 5 warlock, 4 abjuration wizard. It's not much ward stacking but it'd probably still prolong the AoA. And a few levels of wizard gives you more spell slots to use hellish rebuke reactions.
Question: Why use darkness spell instead of darkness arrows? You can concentrate on another spell if you use arrows. Most battles last just 3 rounds anyway.
I'm working on an all ranged party, and planned to have an eldritch blaster for Hunger and to push fools back. I might use this build as the tip of the spear, to soak up enemy attacks especially when the enemy starts too close. Considering 5/5 with 2 into fighter so I can action surge another set of Eldrich Blasts. Any other obvious tweaks you can think of?
Hello! Cool build, I invented a similar thing and had a lot of fun while playing! Good for main char by virtue of having all barbarian intimidation options while being charisma character. If you somehow accept build requests, I have a build request that I'm really struggling in analysis paralysis on even where to start. I want a warding bond bodyguard, who will cast warding bond on player character while... doing something else useful. Thematically should be good if both protected character and the bodyguard would be in the frontline. I though on using bear barbarian for that for resistances and virtue of not being able to concentrate and thus don't risk concentration while being hit twice as often, I though on fighter to have a feat to spare on heavy armor master, and can't really choose. I don't aim that char to have three warding bonds, (s)he'll literally be a bodyguard, so those two rings from act 2 may be an option to not have cleric at all, through I still try to consider cleric to not force player char in having one ring slot taken. It can thematically fit to what RP I have in mind of course, having those two rings on them )) I like your builds a lot, so if you do anything remotely related to this theme, I would greatly appreciate.
I maintain that this is a slept on class combo. The ability to make your barb a party face is alone a great reason to take a warlock dip. But it’s surprising how many warlock spells and abilities can benefit a barb. I created a wild magic barb 7 / goolock 5 build and RP’d that she had been cast out of her tribe for showing latent magical tendencies. She sought out a GOO pact (equating to a respec around level 8), sacrificing her raw strength for knowledge and power. I respecced into warlock at level 1 though because I think WIS saves are more important than CON saves on this character.
Weirdly. So if you have more remaining on your AoA than you'd get from another source, you don't get anything (which makes sense). If you have less, you get that new total, but the AoA doesn't deactivate, so as long as you don't entirely lose your temp hit points, you'll always get the retaliate for the full amount.
is saying nautilus instead of nautiloid in the same veins as selecting true strike to annoy people in the comments? Don't get me wrong, I'm not the least bit annoyed and I also don't want to be the correcting guy

@@Gramald Hey man, I know you're upset right now, but in a couple days it will probably be worth coming back to this and thinking about what happened to you here. This build sounds crazy fun using an Orc. The green hulk smashing through puny enemies with crits. :D

Probably gonna have this for Wyll on my next evil playthrough, as to fill in the melee niche without him leaving warlock.
Might be a fun build for Evil Wyll. Dude has abandoned his principles and just gone full angry mode.

A+ on tactician. Solid B (or average) build on honor.

3:10 lol no lies detected, would roll for burn damage ten times out of ten.
I’m late but COMENT FOR THE ALGORITHM
Does rage still give bonus damage to blade pact weapon attacks? I thought it only did for strength-based attacks
It does! It wouldn't in tabletop, where it's strength only, but in BG3 it works on all melee weapons, including unarmed and finesse (and blade pact)
Wyll +Karlach ? = win!
