Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) is a chronic, diffuse abnormality of the meibomian glands, commonly characterized by terminal duct obstruction, and/or qualitative or quantitative changes in the glandular secretion.Blephasteam® is an innovative patented Medical Device class IIa, designed for relieving symptoms caused by Meibomiam Gland Dysfunction (MGD) and associated diseases such as dry eye syndrome, chalazion, blepharitis or ocular rosacea. This innovative device delivers monitored moist heat for a time-controlled session of 10 min around the eyelids which allows the melting of secretions and unblocks the Meibomian glands, thus improving eyelid health and ocular comfort. Blephasteam® safely and effectively warms the eyelids to restore the flow of oil (meibum) from the meibomian glands.In case of MGD, it is recommended to have a daily eyelid hygiene routine with 3 key steps:1. Eyelid warming: with Blephasteam® to liquify the meibomian secretions thanks to the moist heat2. Eyelid massage: on each upper and lower eyelid for a few seconds, to expel the meibomian secretions already fluidified thanks to Blephasteam®3. Eyelid cleansing: of the edges of both upper and lower eyelids, to remove crust, bacteria, and debris from eyelids with a cleansing product such as Blephaclean®.
