That poor schnitzel looked very sad.. I wish I was there to make them a proper freshly fried shnitzel becuse that one just looked awful. As far as I am concerned Wienerschnitzel is made of veal, but yeah you could use pork too. I am also sad about the papahs only got cabbage 😅 German cuisine is full of wonderful side dishes.
There were also no Northern German specialties. I was born and raised in Hamburg and have never eaten Schweinshaxe, ever. Or Weisswuerstel for that matter. We do a mean smoked makarel and eel up there though.
Maybe you should serve your test persons a few of our local dishes. A Schnitzel often comes with a sauce based on onions and cream, and add mushrooms and let your guys have the traditional Jägerschnitzel (huntsman style schnitzel). Also there's the Currywurst. Basically a Bratwurst chopped into mouthfitting pieces, served with ketchup and curry spice powder. Upgrade: French Fries with Mayonnaise.
Sweet episode. Looks Bavaria did it. No hessian, berlin, baden-württhembergish or other food of other regions of Germany. German food is defenitely more diverse 😊 What about the Döner, Gulasch or Rouladen, Backfisch, Königsberger Klopse? 😅 I think the half of this food was austian or cheque food- apple strudel can also be austrian or cheque. And Wiener Schnitzel as the name says is austrian. We just have Schnitzel with porc or chicken 😢 But it is also very delicious 👍
So, if I understood correctly, it was more of an “Oktoberfest-themed” tasting. Please don't take offense, but this also shows that people in America automatically equate Germany with southern Germany and Bavaria in particular. Even for that, the selection was very, very limited. On the other hand, you also have to make a selection for a video like this. However, the Mexican gentlemen were all very fair and extremely nice in their assessments. Sauerkraut and red cabbage are often side dishes, but, without offending the makers, neither looked to me like what I know and have eaten in Germany (where I was born and grew up) I'll have to remember “That's dank” though! “That's dank” for the video and to the mexican gentlemen.
So, i really enjoyed watching those Dads having such a blast with our german food! If they enjoyed it that much in those ways the food was served, they would LOVE it if they´d go to a german restaurant here! 😄
as an austrian, the apple strudel was a real offense. wrong pastry, looked awful. but well, i guess for a german variant it is ok? Also the Schnitzel, no one in austria would eat that, it looked like it has been sitting in a moldy bin for a few hours. Schnitzel is supposed to be thin, the breading should be crispy and golden.
Nah as a german I felt offended too. The strudel definitely looked awful, never had anything like that in either Germany or Austria. It looked more like some sort of cheap Apfel Tasche or bad frozen convenience food.
Where is the: Spätzle Maultaschen Kartoffelsalat Rinderrouladen Sauerbraten Rostbraten Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte Schweinshaxe????? That's the great German Food!!
It took me til I was like 10 years old to enjoy sauerkraut. I love it tho with hot dogs and sausages. Also love eating sausage and cabbage or sauerkraut soup. My dad, being Croatian, loved sauerkraut and cabbage cuz it’s in Croatia’s cuisine. So I got exposed to it from a young age.
First of all, the Mexican Dads are very kind, and I think also honest. They simply are not used to German food but were very open to new tastes. As some Germans are not pleased with the plates you served, they are right that a lot of tastes are missing, and the "Sauerkraut und Würstchen" move was too obvious. Nevertheless, it is not possible to present the different tastes of a country in one video. I liked the "dads" tasting and judging, and being open for new flavours. And you can say to them, there a quite a lot more. ;)
Yes this is more like an afterthought and only served in a handful of dishes, even sauerkraut is not as ubiquous as everyone thinks, it is mostly served to certain sausages and certain dumplings! It might have been more eaten a few hundred years ago when it was the main source of Vitamin C in winter, but nowadays ...
Sauerkraut needs a good amount of butter and caramelized onions to balance out the tartness. Muchachos can come over to my house anytime. Most of this stuff did not look like anything authentic. Wiener Schnitzel has to have fresh lemon wedges. Also, Northern German food is quite different. Most people this side of the pond focus on all things Bavaria. I dare you to serve these guys an authentic Berlin Curry Wurst or Hamburg Franzbroetchen. Or Labskaus. Yeah. Good stuff.
Honestly, the biggest problem with the schnitzel was not the missing lemon 😂 . It either was a very very very bad convenience product or something went very wrong with the breading and or frying when they prepared it.
Wait what!... They didn't serve them German Frikadellen?... How could you guys do such a thing!... It's one of my all time favourite foods... It can be eaten either hot or cold... And it tastes incredible... Evan a Schweinshaxe (Pork Knuckle) would've been nice to see here too guys... I hope there's going to be further delicious German food products in future guys. 👍
these guys are all very upbeat and positive in their assessments of the foods here. even if they don't care for it they still have good things to say about it i admire that. especially since generic german food is so dramatically different from all the different forms collectively referred to as "mexican".
Achtung another bitter german here :) Next time really test these guys with some northern german meals like: Schwarzsauer (Swartsuur), Brathering, Labskaus, Schnuten un Poten and Aal in Sauer. Germany is so much more than Bayern and Schnitzel is from Austria, as far as I know. Prost Mahlzeit.
2 comments.....in the RGV, people do carry little snack size ziplocks with their favorite chiles inside, usually chile pequin. Also, unless you are from south Texas or north Mexico, you might not be aware of the many German and Polish communities that settled there and have influenced dance, music and food.
Well Wiener Schnitzel is not "German" but Austrian..and this one looked very bad, in Austria that would land instantly in the trash or in rural areas it will be feeded to the pigs - although - it looked like as if it was prepared in Germany, so at least I have to give you that. And the Apfelstrudel for what also Austria is actually famous for ...no words unless "insult" at least for the looks because an Apfelstrudel looks totally different "Strudel" means "whirl" so the inside look has to look like "a whirl" due to being furled, the filling has to be spread on the whole surface of the very wide outstreched (at least an arm length long and wide ) + very thin flaky pastry dough = the dough is that thin so you could read a written paper when lying beneath the dough - then the dough with the fillings spreaded all over the whole surface got furled so when then looking at the cut there are then layers of very thin flaky pastry dough + filling inside which looks like a whirl due to be rolled up and therefore it is called "Strudel/whirl""....but that thing has just a very thick chunk of dough wrapped around the filling... but it might taste good, but it is definitively no "Strudel" but just a very thick chunk of dough around a filling
I’ve noticed both, moms & dads are not into the tangy taste of the Sauerkraut. And I wonder: was it right out of the jar or was it prepared? My mom here in Germany use to add 1 bay leaf and 3 juniper berries, a little bit of broth (the powder or cube stuff) and a little bit of apple. A sweeter one. Fresh, apple juice or apple sauce, everything works. Just enough to lower the tangyness. 😅
shame on the cooks when it comes to cooking the schnitzel if you cant hear and feel that crispy crunch when biting into a schnitzel its not made properly. those schnitzels look anemic and barely had any contact with any hot surface
These are German INGREDIENTS not German FOOD. You can't just put these together as you see fit. It's like putting corn, tomatos, chilies and avocados, mix them together and call it Mexican. It's offensive!
