  • Looking for native species of fish in the River Don near Oughtibridge in Sheffield. Underwater footage of some of the fish we were able to find!
    Inspired by my friends across the pond at Maple Street Aquatics ( / @mrbeeznutz ) and their fishroom full of native (to them) fish, and recent Fishman Aquatics ( / @fishmanaquatics9525 ) video, I thought I'd venture out into the 'wild' and see what I have near me!

    Pretty sure the fish are Eurasian minnows. Last year I caught about 15 of them and I keep them in my aquarium. They are not endangered and are very very common in the UK. They exhibit really good behaviour in the aquarium and seem inquisitive and intelligent. They eat algae that grows in the tank, but I feed them with fish food granules and blood worms. I've also fed them salmon and mussels - they go wild for that. I keep meaning to upload a video of them.

      I finally uploaded a video of the minnows. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/78WC_UAUo58/видео.html

    I was doing the same last week. I seen some stone loaches, minnows, sticklebacks, young trout and young flounders at just over an inch all on the same part of the river. Hadn’t done anything like this since I was a kid and enjoyed it a lot

    I'd be inclined to add a bait feeder right by the camera, or chuck some sinking pellets in where the camera is sitting, you might be surprised by the results ;

    Lovely walk up your way. Tend to fish it from Outibridge down back through Hillsborough.

    Cool seing you getting out on an adventure with the kids, not sure on the fish, I'd guess some kind of shiner but not really sure what's in your area. Thanks for taking us along, a net would definitely make it easier as long as it's legal.
