Spot on Rhys, I have had some great winter fishing over the years. And most definitely memorable for one reason or another. And those windy days can be really productive. I am sure after that video a lot more will be trying there lines this winter. Well done mate. Take care. Shaun.
Another great vid Rhys, diolch 👍. Fair weather fisher so never really fished beyond October before but after rediscovering my love for fly fishing over the last couple of years and the need to get out to help with my sanity in these challenging Covid times, am hoping to get out to Clywedog or Brenig over the next couple of weeks. Will definitely try your suggestions in here and will also try the bung having just watched that vid of yours too, which will be a first at that method for me. Keep them coming - love your tutorials and for fishermen like me there’s nothing ‘too basic’ 😁. Just watched your dropper knot vid which has saved me hours of struggle. Thanks again #alwayslearning
As someone who is getting back into fly fishing after 15 years or so, i've really enjoyed watching your videos and learning about some of the changes in tackle and tactics. Shame we are in local lockdown at the moment and unable to get down to Garnffrwd (first venue I ever fished). Keep the great videos coming, cheers
Really great vid mate.....spot on about murky water fishery’s too....I fish a few in the Kent area and often see people ripping lures back at speed and wondering why the trout cannot keep up as as soon as they see the fly it’s gone in an instant
Great video pal. I introduced Ben to the incredible cats and he hasn't looked back since. Fish them all year round and they tend to pull out the bigger trout. Certainly a winner for our customers too. Some great information provided. Keep it up.
Love the videos mate, would like a video explaining taperd leaders for dry fly. Something I've not done alot of and generally fish a straight leader perfection loop to my braided loop, and never use a taperd leader, cheers
Fishing still waters was only something for me to do when the salmon season had finished was always they guy who just pulled lures and yes some days I caught into double figures some days only managed 1 but Rhys videos have had dramatic changed how I fish still waters and my catch’s on most methods now are far far better
Great video mate, loving the content. Just a quick one on what are the general rules with what to fish on point and on dropper with lures? Is there a traditional pattern which works best? How do you decide what dropper to fish or will you sometimes just go with 1 fly?
Just been for a morning session for the first time in 2 years. Now I’m chomping at the bit to get out again. Top video, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I can’t tie a fly to save my life, where can I buy the flies in your video.
Not sure what your winters are like in the UK, but in the Northern Midwest, USA, I'll take a calm bright sunny day to warm up the water any little bit it can every single time. Often they are the only days I'll even try, and even then only at the warmest points in the day. Google tells me 12 degrees C is about 53 degrees in freedom units, and for most of the winter you won't anything here near that warm outside some tailwaters and certain spring creeks. And in the really cold weeks, some of those will even freeze over. And it's not like anything you're saying is wrong, just that we fish very different worlds in the winter, and it's kinda funny hearing someone going on about how you want to fish the overcast windy days in winter so that you can get the cooler more 02 rich water!
Interesting. If the aim here was to target fish on natural patterns such as buzzers and nymphs, then we'd want a milder day with sun. But when we're talking strictly about uk lure fishing - a moderate or strong wind and overcast conditions are almost the holy grail for exploring the success with lure fishing. 👍
Hi Rhys, I saw a vice in one of your videos it was a custom vice made by an Irish company but I can’t remember its name, can you please let me know thanks, I’m looking for a new vice and I remember it looked great, thanks
Another great video, enjoy watching, I have a question , I have an Airflo velocity clear intermediate line and it spirals and coils a lot ,, is that usual?
Thanks Allan. Some airflo lines are reknown for retaining spool memory so yours is not the first! A line will always hold some memory initialy but time on the water and fish on the end of the line normally smoothens out that coiling. If it doesnt then it sounds like you were rather unlucky with that specific line on this occasion
I see the DI3 line has a sink of 1.5 per second. So does the fast glass. Why would you use one over the other? Also is a reason to favour a full sink line over a 10ft sink tip for example?
Depends on the comp mark. Local comps and large reservoirs comps generally allow them. Fips mouche small Stillwater comps they aren’t permitted unless a local rule is put in place permitting their use
Hi Rhys Great video and great information. I have looked high and low for the rabbit fly with foam on, the one at the end of this video. Could you please tell me where I can buy them from. Cheers Rhys.
Hi Bob. You wont find that pattern anywhere as it's a custom tye. I'll be tying some for sale as part of fundraising for the welsh bank team. Please contact me on social media if you'd like to purchase some!
@@RhysFishes Hi Rhys Would love to purchase some from you. But at 69 I’m not too clever on computers. How can I contact you. I would probably have a dozen . Cheers Rhys Bob.

Situation: local pond (small), rainbows stocked< month ago, discolored water, wind in my face, reeds on south end, drop offs and also gradual slopes, average depth 7' to 23'. Used an intermediate line, countdown method. No joy at all. Any recommendations?
The bung in the margins or if a hatch is present 3 nymphs twiddled back round the edges. With a wind in your face the fish will be close in so avoid spooking them. Discoloured water is a slight pain but can be overcome with bright or dark flies that have a sillouette 👍
Well done saying got wind, without laughing Rhys. Loving all Your Video's. No one out there does it better my friend...
Thanks 👍
Hugely informative explanations and so precisely explained. Your a great ambassador of the sport. Well done.

For smallstillwaters its usually just one lure. General rule of thumb - heaviest fly on the point always 👍
Thanks for the tips I found you guys through ig subscribed!
Really useful. Thanks Rhys.
I just caught a 1 1/2 lb Tiger trout in clywedog on a black suspender buzzer!
I was there about a month ago as well and the CDC suspender worked really well!
