I think I’ve just learned more from this video than anywhere else. Short rest and cast to another lane, the retrieval patterns and speeds for various flies, the areas you’re casting etc, etc. thank you!
Thanks for watching@@RhysFishes. That means a lot. If you have any comments or suggestions we would be pleased to hear them. This is our second year fishing and we are learning the hard way.
Thanks for your interesting videos, since I have been watching your videos I have been catching a lot more fish at Farmor in Oxfordshire. Would like to see you do a video on sea trout fishing, I have had some big sea trout in Wales fishing at night, it sure gets the heart pumping.
Another cracking video Rhys. I have never fished this water, but that will change this year. We have got a good few waters up north we are looking at doing. The boys, Paul and Justin was up there last week in the comp and managed third place. Looking forward to the next video mate. Take care Rhys. Shaun.
I’ve just got back from a days fishing myself a Rhys vid is the Best way to end a Sunday. Washing line was lethal for me today. Black Fritz fab on the point and then combo of buzzers, diawl Bachs and Cormies at 4ft apart. 21 to the bank and lost a few good ones. I hadn’t even tried the washing line till I started watching your vids last year
I enjoy the videos and find them very instructive - I notice the slow tip you used was blue in colour but the airflo superflo slow tip seem to be different colours to blue - was that a different line please and also did you use 6 or 12 foot tip
Hi Rhys, would you do the same 7 second recast tactic on small stillwaters as well? Been trying to figure out how I should approach them with dries as the weather is getting warmer.
No. Small Stillwater’s are about leaving the fly there for 3/5 minutes. Reservoir trout are far easier to tempt and you have more water to cover on a large resi.
Hi , Could you please tell me were you were fishing,it looks so beautiful, I would love to go there sometime.great video's please keep it up.cant wait for the next one.
Rhys, is there any particular reason you fished a 7wt on the nymph in rod, rather than a 6wt to match the dries rod? I’m looking to switch to the vision stillmaniac but want to cover the dries and nymphs with just the one rod.
I have the stillmaniac 9’6 7 wt love it I’m actually looking to purchase another now because all my other fly rods just don’t feel the same in the hand anymore the handles on the vision rods are nice and slim. All the very best
I'll be honest, I didn't like the Reddinton on this day. It's a rod better suited to the bung than the washing line. However part of the reason choosing a 7wt over a 6wt was to help with casting further and turnover. With the 6wt I'm fishing very short (12ft of fly line outside the tip at best) so a 6wt with it's softness is ideal.
Hi rhys just wondering I'm going to be travelling from Ireland over to the Rhondda valleys in the next few weeks was thinking about taking the rods do you know of any good lakes near pontypridd
You’ve got llyn fawr up that way, it’s a stocked fishery near Brecon. Quite big, but plenty of fish in it. It does now have a zip wire above it but it doesn’t affect the fishing much, just spoils the scenery a bit. Worth a visit 👍
Hi Rhys, great videos, just discovered your channel and love it ! Well done late ! What were those flies on the dry fly line please ? And any suggestions where to get some ?? Thanks Simon
@@RhysFishes ok thanks ! I live in France so the tackle is a bit different over here….! But thanks anyway mate, and great job with the videos ! Thanks for all the help, I’m sure I will catch more fish with your help !!!!
Great video again Rhys, your water fishes exactly like my local up in the hills, sun comes out the fish are all over the dry fly and looking up we get some serious surface action up there. Tight Lines
@@RhysFishes was just this yesterday again gave the boat a bash we had over 50 to the net with the little cloud cover that came and went every fish on a Cdc Emerger if you gave it one long pull just to let those cdc go under and back up wow 6 hours of non stop action we probably dropped as many as we caught such a fun day.
Rhys great video. but can you tell us what month off the year each fishing trip venue please. because some flies are better than others in Summer, and so on. cheers
Hi Rhys, love the videos! Me and my dad are having our first trip to clywedog on Monday. the weather is supposed to be overcast with a gentle breeze and showers. with 4 rods between us, what would be your go to setups and areas on the lake to fish? cheers!
Hi Rhys, As always a great video and I've learned a great deal again! I've been trying to fish the washing-line lately but I'm having no success. The water is a medium sized resie, about 15ac, with bank access only. I've been using about a 12-15ft leader with two epoxy buzzers and a DB then a booby on the point. I've been fishing them fairly static, but having no success! I notice you aren't using buzzers here, and are figure eighting the flies back, am I fishing things too slow? Should I drop the buzzers and change to something like the cormorant? I know it's been a pretty hot month so that might explain things, but I'd like some advice! Thanks, Johnny
Great video again Rhys. There's nothing better than catching trout on the dry. Was that video done last year Rhys as I noticed that the old cabin was in the background.? Hope to get up there again next week at some point. 👍🏴
The key is to stare at the general direction of your flies. on Smaller waters I fish flies that are soo small you'd never see them, but just keeping your eyesight in the general vicinity will be enough to spot those subtle takes.
Ensure that you have enough space between them. As someone going from a 1 fly cast to 2. I’d recommend getting comfortable with 1 fly on a 12ft leader. Then introduce a dropper at 6ft. Fish like that for a few weeks/months until it becomes second nature then gradually fish a longer line with 2 flies (15ft for example). After an extended period then you can introduce 3 flies at 5ft intervals 👍
I love all of your videos and information but most of it is about multiple fly methods. On my local water I can only fish with a single fly and no boobies. What methods should I b.e using at this time of year?
Rhys I hope you are enjoying life congratulations on both your marriage and becoming a dad. I hope that you still have some time to enjoy more fishing in the future. With as time and life allows returning to your channel possibly more collaborations with others such as Lindsay Simpson. Be it locally or further afield

Great video again. The Airflo line is it the 12,ft slow tip your using.
That's right WIlliam

This was the 12ft slow (old version). It's no different to the new version in terms of how it behaves, more of a rebranding thing I think Wayne.

How do you set up at leader? Do you use snappers (hooks), a tippet leader or just a straight line?
Straight through fluorocarbon most of them time 🙂

Hi Rhys. Great video, wouldn't have expected the dry to come out on top. CDC seems to be a trout magnet on its day
Cheers Peter. My thoughts exactly, just when you think you know what the fish are going to do, they deal you a completely different card!
Rhys, what size daddies do you use or does it depend where your at?
Generally a 10 or 12 sees you right
Tip Top video again Rhys. Regards from Northumberland.
Thanks 👍Bob.

What were those flies on the dry fly line please ?

Those were just your usual dry flies. So culls and bobs bits basically. You can find a good selection of flies if you Google the company fario fly. 👍

Do you recommend using fly clips im a beginner thanks
Personally, I would stay away from them and learn the fundamentals of tying knots and leader length. You'll catch more fish without fly clips.
Brilliant! Makes me want to get back there soon.
Fishing well Lindsay!

Bleep machine getting a bit of use there Rhys lol 😂
Bad angling by me Meach!😂
How do you manage to keep your eyes on the 3 dry flies on at same time? I sometimes struggle just to keep eyes on 1 dry fly!
The key is to stare at the general direction of your flies. on Smaller waters I fish flies that are soo small you'd never see them, but just keeping your eyesight in the general vicinity will be enough to spot those subtle takes.
Great video. I’m a beginner and find that if I use two or more flies on droppers I get a lot of tangles. Any tips to avoid these?

This is really a channel that produces quality content. Keep it going 👍
Thank you.
Notice you use gink on the CDC, I thought it didn't work or ruined the material?
quite the opposite. It benefits the fly, as long as you don't drown the fly in it. Just a drop here and there works wonders.
Could fish drys for days the takes are the best 🎉😊😊😊
You're right there Greg!
If you don't have an amadou patch, regular kitchen roll helps dry CDC feathers in an instant. Plenty may be needed with wet hands though!
Also a good option 👍
Looked like a lovely day for it, much nicer than the wind we had for the comp last weekend 😆
