    Brilliant fishing Tim 🎣 I've got my first ever fly fishing competition at Grafham next month and this video taught me some great tips. Which fly did the best on your day? Was it the red rib diawl bach or the point booby? Any other flies you'd recommend for late August on this water? Subscribed to your channel 👍

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  Месяц назад +1

      Think it was pretty even between the colour and the nymphs mate . Water at Grafham is still cool for the time of year so barring a prolonged heat wave August should be pretty good . Dries score well later on usual bobs bits and big reds . They can get on the fry early so popper fry or sparkler boobies worth a shot .. Message me on FB nearer the time and I will have some gen for you .

    Hi Tim, great video once again. Tell me, were you working with a drouge down your drifts? Looking forward to your next adventure. 👍

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching . Yes when nymphing I always use a drogue unless theres no wind , it steady the boat and keeps thing straight . Those high sided Coulam boats drift bias the engine something terrible .

    Good session Tim and enjoyable to watch. We’ll be there middle of June and will try and do some of those long drifts in the open water, where the fish will hopefully be by then?

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  2 года назад

      Im sure we will chat before then . But yes it wont be long befor the fish start pushing into deeper water .

    Great video - love seeing those buzzer takes - I'm out in a boat at Grafham for 3 days Fri, Sat, Sun this week with a couple of friends - any tips would be appreciated! thanks

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  2 года назад

      Follow the wind , Forcast suggests W on Friday so would head to the stumps as per the vid , coming round N and NE sat /Sun so would head up and drift the dam into plummers bank . This method I have been using in the vid has been bomb proof for the last 3 weeks now !

    Top man , like to mix flies on droppers buz , d/b , cruncher, and colour, just to c , red d/b fishing best for me at the min , Draycott, eyebrook,

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  2 года назад +1

      I think the clear water and bright sunshine at the moment make nymphs with red in them top of the list at them moment .. Its defiantly a good idea to mix the cast up .

    Tim, I am a river angler with limited still water experience. could you do a video or tell me about your landing net. Untill I watched some of your videos had not seen anything like it and can see the advantages of such a long handle.

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  2 года назад

      This is the Wychwood boatman landing net and pole , extends to 8ft . Very useful for landing and releasing fish from high banks , pontoons or over weed beds where there is a chance the fish may get entangled . I wouldn't be without a net like this , I see folks struggling to land and release fish using small pans nets or folding style nets . We owe it to the fish to revive and return it in the best condition possible .

    Smashing day out, Tim.
    Here’s a question for you. If you could only choose one for the rest of your fishing, would it be naturals or Lures?

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  2 года назад

      Naturals every time .. I am addicted to dry fly fishing !! How about you ?

    • @CBCB78
      @CBCB78 2 года назад +1

      @@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 to be honest, I’ve only really mastered naturals in the last 12 months. It was always lures before but I have to say, I prefer the takes on buzzers any day. It’s great fun. Brutal some of them

    Good day on the water. Except for the first part where the wind and waves were stronger, your retrieve seemed considerably faster than your drift. Is that right?
    Were fishing the 12' fast tip the whole time?
    With that setup and your retrieve, the boobie was sub-surface also?
    Again, thanks.

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  2 года назад

      The video is deceptive , we were moving pretty quick in what was about a 15 mph breeze . I was simply keeping up with the slack , just enough to stay in contact with the flies so there was very little actual movement by me . The booby sinks under the weight of the nymphs and Fluro very quickly , it helps level the cast and adds as a nice little attractor .

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  2 года назад

      And yes I was on the tip all the time my fishing partner used a floater .. the tip outfished the floater
