      We have been working with our latest pattern, which is a pearl olive nymph. It is very similar to the Dawl. we are finding the simplicity of the pattern seems to be key. Spars is good. Like the dawl it catches fish consistently. And as you have found fished many ways. Not sure about your self, But we have tried a few colours with this new pattern. They can catch fish, but the olive works far better. Thanks for the comment Johnathan. Shaun.

      I really hope people get to do this. For most its the confidence to use small flies and thinking its only lures that can be fished fast. I can tell you that I have even fished an 18 with a fast figure of eight. Just thing of all those small aquatic creatures swimming or darting around. For most of the time we do a steady figure of eight with may be a few pauses. But keep an eye on the water, when you notice a few fish darting around. Time to try the fast stuff with the buzzer. Sometimes you may think they wont chase this. Trust me they often will, and its aggressive. Give it a go, mess about with them. But its another successful method for your armory. The weather at the moment for a lot of the country, is making fishing difficult. Honestly I can feel the confidence in your words when you mention the cormorant. A bit more of this in a few more patterns will do you really well. Over time you will discover your choice of pattern. But that confidence is what catches the fish. Late March and April are the best times for this method. But if the fish start moving higher in the water, there's a chance. Nice to hear back from you Alan. Thanks mate. Take care. Shaun.

    This goes to show one should try all methods, not just stick to the conventional static of washing line on buzzers! Helpful diagram… explains why I take more fish on buzzers when fishing in line with wind on a steady retrieve than fishing static! Also like that you again reinforce the point, presentation is everything! So many get obsessed with “which fly is it?” rather than thinking the presentation and depth as being more important. So, yeah another great video Shaun! Don’t know about you but this current weather is great, but ain’t half spoiling our fishing! Cheers! Jonathan

    • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101 Год назад +1

      Absolutely must try all retrieves before giving up any pattern. So many people are unaware of what is going on in there waters. Like for so many years now I have listened to people going on about the natural way. Where do they get this from. Like for anything we do. Know the game first. Understand how water moves and understand what goes on in the water. Then go fishing. No need to know it all, but get the basics. I did cover a video on the basics of Undertow, and how it can effect our fishing. The response was poor, or the channel is far to small for this sort of message. Yes more often its presentation before fly. If it was about the fly, we would all be using the same fly. But on any day you will find a variety of flies work on the day. I have said for two years now how conditions are changing our sport, and effecting the fish behaviour. And this is just the start of things I am sure. A lot of people will not notice for a few reasons. The main one being that if you fish a well stocked lake. Stock fish are not educated, they will try and eat anything. So these people will not notice much change. But there is so much going on due to climate that effects our fishing. Far to much for me to explain to you. But what we are experiencing at the moment is the constant change in pressure. This throws fish right off. And what I am starting to understand now could effect more waters. When we put our last stock in they moved about for two days. This is normally a few weeks as they establish and slowly become resident fish. I have heard from a few waters that have experience much the same. We have another stock going in this week. So we will be monitoring what happens. If these fish react in the same way. Which is go down and become very difficult to catch. How many more stockings do we do. This is a very tricky one for the fishery managers. But most important for a quality water and fish, we do not want to overstock. Ye fishing is tuff at the moment. Lets hope it passes bye soon. Great comment Jonathan mate. Shaun.

    • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101 Год назад

      Thanks Mark. I have messed about with this zonka for a good while. Nearly all lure patterns I fish attract a good few fish and a good few come off. When I watch these patterns in the water they sometimes end up on there side coming through the water, and I have heard a lot of people say the same. I was not sure if this was the reason for fish coming off the hook. But it made sense. So what I have done is to watch a lot of videos of tying these patterns. What was very common if wire was included, is that it was tied on to the side of the shank. But if a bead was used that it might be the buoyancy of material. So I have decided to use lead wire. Hence the intermediate line to fish it. Its a small tweak that makes a big difference. Tie the wire on the underside of the shank. And for this pattern I only wind one third back up. This helps to give more movement. And that is the trick. May not be new, but I have not seen or heard of this before. Oh and the amount of fish coming off. Almost nil. But the pattern is that blue twinkle stuff, Black micro cactus which looks more green to me. And for the checks flash bright from lureflash. very old stuff. But any flash may do. And obviously black zonka strip. My buzzers are straight forward simple and fairly plain. I mainly stick with black, red and olive. The red is my fav. and has had loads of fish. I did do a tying of the red on vid somewhere in here. Hope this helps Mark. Thanks for the comment mate. Shaun. Oh I think the video was called the one fly I want on here.

This is the barbless range, but holds a fish really well. Have used the Nymph Black Nickel also. But if somebody has a preference for a hook that's fine. The Cling Film Fly was based on this pattern. Not sure if you have seen this video. But I am on the vice with both the Squirrel and the Cling Film flies. The Cling Film is scaled up so we can see it better. • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101 7 месяцев назад

      OK lets say we have something like a 15' tippet on a floating line. We have three buzzers on. The point is a resin buzzer, which sinks quite fast. As a rule of thumb it has always been said, add a few foot to your tippet, allow for drag on the surface. Wind. If you are not sure of depth go longer. If you do hit bottom it is simple to reduce. However if the water depth is 15' or even 10' it would be very rarely to hit the bottom. We know of wind drag. But undertow can create far more drag than wind. And undertow goes in the opposite direction to wind. Undertow will vary in strength depending on time of year, temperature and wind speed. So when we add wind drag and undertow together, this can hold your flies a lot higher in the water than we think. I do believe for a lot of people on the water thinking there flies are not as deep as they think. There are so many scenarios on the day that can effect the position of our flies. I have done a video. Basic on undertow. Its called the Secret River. Another which hits on drag and undertow is, Probably the best line in the world. This is what it says on the thumb. Sorry I don't know how to do tags. Get back to me if I have not answered your question. Shaun.

      @shaunfishes101 Год назад +2

      A 4# is always going to be better presentation than the heavier rods. In the wright hands mind. But there is a lot more to it than that. I really have to get a video done on rods. The first thing to think of is what your fishing for and what you will be casting. When and where you intend to fish, like is it an exposed area, and is it mainly summer not winter. The action of the rod is very important. You could end up with a fast tip, which in my opinion is defeating the purpose of a lighter rod. Lets say the 4# rod. Smaller fish in the main, close range and calmer conditions. Mid action allows you to drop down on tippet. If that same rod was a tip action, there is more chance of getting snapped off. Be aware spooking fish with a main line is not so much how it lands on the water. The video the other month shows what happens. All lines create line flash. But to round it off. A 4# rod is more specific, A 6# / 7# is more all rounders. So if you have the cash, why not. Mind it could spend more time in the tube than on the water. If you are thinking of a new rod let me know. But give me details of where you intend to fish and method you spend most time fishing.

      The bloke stated that it was not a recent film because of the weather. Obviously it was in winter because the trees weren't in leaf and it was snowing. That's it. No big deal. No hidden meaning. I should know better than to watch videos of people fishing small waters for dumb fresh stockies. The thumbnail caught my eye. I'll stick to proper fishing from now on.

      Fishing is changing Bill. Its more down to climate, and our hatches are not what they used to be. There is going to be big changes on stillwaters in the future, as we see aquatic and insect life depleting. Fish are spending a lot of time on micro stuff. The same micro stuff which is not effected as badly with climate change. If the waters you fish are stocked more often then your in with a chance. But when that same fish switches to resident. Its going to be a lot more challenging. This is when we need to think about our approach. Mornings is still by far the best of fishing. We would never bank on the evening any longer. We start off with small size 14 Diawel or nymphs. My fav at the moment and which has caught loads of fish, is the olive pearl nymph. Its a pattern we have worked on for years. Very close to a straight buzzer, as its so sparse. For most of the time I fish this high and fast. Then slowing down a bit if no response from the fish. We fish a very difficult water at Hayscastle. And if we can make things happen here. We are covered for most waters. But your experience is not uncommon in to days fishing world. For us boys, its like going back in time. The pleasure is being there. Catching that tricky resident fish is a great reward. Its a sad thought that so many only turn up within a few days of stocking. Never to be seen until next stock. Not good for the fishery manager or the fishery. May be try a different water with a different approach. Just go out enjoy the days peace. Stay confident and chill. Pity you were not closer. We would have you sorted in no time. Mind we do have people book from all over the UK. They love the area. Pembrokeshire. If ever interested drop me a line. Take care Bill. Shaun.
