ミヒャエル・ボレマンス　Michaël Borremans
1963年ゲラールスベルゲン（ベルギー）生まれ、ゲント（ベルギー）在住。ベラスケスやマネなど伝統的な西洋絵画の技法とテーマに強い関心を寄せ、絵画を想像的な世界の窓を開く、普遍的な言語として捉えている。日常に潜む不穏さや危うさを、曖昧で矛盾に満ちた画題で表現する独特の雰囲気を持ち、具体的な意味や物語を拒むコンセプチュアル・アートの影響も強く見て取れる。近年は絵画から派生した映像作品も制作している。主な個展に、ルドルフィヌム・ギャラリー（2020年、プラハ、チェコ）、原美術館（2014年、東京）、ゲント現代美術館（2005年、ベルギー）がある。シドニー・ビエンナーレ（2018年、オーストラリア）、横浜トリエンナーレ（2011年）、ベルリン・ビエンナーレ（2006年、ドイツ）、マニフェスタ5（2004年、サンセバスチャン、スペイン）などに招待された。2010年にはロイヤル・パレスにベルギー王室のための委嘱作品をシリーズで制作した。

This painter tell the world direct mood, spiritual statement or the shocking realities. Is he demonic because he say what others don't say? Because we don't like to see the Dark on this world, even we know that it excist among us and we don't do nothing to change the reality. I see his paintings in this perspective,..e desire to shock people heart and turbulent our mind because we are in lethargy mood.

He just paints a shadow, what is pushed to or not extracted from the subconscious. This can cause anxiety in immature people who make sure that everyone paints beautiful cards for the world. The world is neither good or bad, it just is what it is. Death, fear, alienation, violence are also part of it. Our judgments or wishful thinking will not change that. Borremans makes us feel our shadows. Isn't that the role of an artist?
