This is like Muhammed Ali on drums, Mike Tyson on keyboards, Larry Holmes on bass, and Joe Frazier on guitar. Your ultimate supergroup!! RIP Keith Emerson.
In the mid 70’s when my best friend and I were competing who was the best keyboard player of us two he was talking about how “great” Rick Wakeman with Yes was. I pulled out my ELP albums and he never went back!!!
@@RMGCBG Wakeman was part of the mix in a guitar band. Emerson was the keyboardist in a keyboard-led band. HUGE difference. Keith composed about 80% of their work and played virtually every moment. No time to have a curry on stage while everyone else worked.
It was the suckiest year ever for rock. We lost so many greats I am too sad to keep count. All we can hope for in the next life: "you know they've got a hell of band." *sigh*
I saw The Nice make their debut at the Fillmore East. They were the opening act for 10 Years After, They blew the audience away. Same antics as ELP, knife in little organ and swinging it around. Unbelievable performance.
Worked at Armed Forces Radio and used Tarkus as transition music. Saw ELP in Austin, Texas in about 1977..great show, great music. I worked with an older woman who primarily listened to classical music and made her a mixtape of ELP. After listening in her car the first thing she asked was, "Who is the keyboard player?"
In my search for back when music videos I came upon this video. ELP - 3 great artists, 3 instruments, and powerful music. Emerson was a wiz on the keyboard. Palmer made percussion speak to you. Stunning work. Absurd that they are not in the Hall of Fame.
Amazing. Thanks Keith, RIP. Simon Phillips adds so much to this and indeed the concert. Not sure 26 years on about the head band! What fabulous musicians.
Simon Phillips was drummer for The Who on their 1989 tour, first and only time I got to see them. It was pretty amazing show. I'm not sure how I missed this thing back in the 1990s I had no idea! As "super groups" go, this bunch really was The Best. RIP Keith and Ox.
You know what this lineup is? Muhammad Ali on drums, Muhammad Ali on bass, Muhammad Ali on guitar, Muhammad Ali on keys and Muhammad Ali on guitar. THIS --- IS THE MONSTERS OF ROCK…
I had the pleasure of seeing Emerson, lake and Powell awesome and talented group and unfortunately both entwistle who died of an overdose and Emerson who committed spiced RIP my brothers and long live rock and roll, my best regards to all you fans sincerely, freshness personified!!!
I was lucky enough to do sound for this group. First day of rehearsal Keith had his huge keyboard rig John had his huge bass rig Simon had a big drum kit and Joe walks in and had me go get his pig nose amp (probably smallest amp ever made) they were amazing!!!
Wow, what an amazing band - so many great heroes on stage. So sad, Keith and John are no longer with us. But what a great version, what a feast of genius
I remember hearing what I know now to be Keef playing "America"; outside Harlow swimming pool by a guy in a green MG Roadster on a cassette tape back in 1967. That piece of music influenced my entire life; strangely enough. It somehow made me start to think about everything. I was ten years old! Fanks Keef! Respect to you. Pauly.
The BEST. A hidden gem that has to be mined to be appreciated. They played in Hawaii and Japan and were done! Thank goodness they made a video! I'd hate to see such talent fall to the wayside.
From my 1st exposure to ELP I loved Keith. To this day whenever I hear one of their songs I can't resist moving my fingers to mimic Keith's sounds. And I can't play the piano. I do the same when I hear great bass rifs. I was blown away by Entwistle's licks coz I never knew he could play like this. Awesome! I saw ELP in 1977. What a "Lucky Man" I was. And the anniversary of Keith's death is bittersweet for me coz my wife passed away a week before he did. RIP Keith. RIP John. RIP wifey. Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends...
So great to see Keith having such a ball up there on stage. This version of the song has a totally different energy than the ELP version. Both are amazing, and as much as i love Greg Lake and his bass playing, I have to say I have never seen anyone play the bass like John Entwhistle did in this. Love it!! But I do miss Greg and his bass, AND his voice, of course.
Geni del Rock progressive e non solo .Ottimi esecutori e compositori di musica classica con inflessioni jazz, blues. Keith è spettacolare, unico al mondo. Questa musica non morirà mai. Grazie maestri !!!
0_O Holy crap. Mind=Blown. This was a SMOKIN' version of this song, and John Entwistle really was in a league of his own as far as bassists are concerned. Everyone shreds in this vid. haha!
I'ts just to damm of a shame they didn't play alot longer with a lineup of John Enthwistle, Keith Emerson, Simon Philips, Jeff Skunk Baxter and last but not least Joe Walsh. Had they played the states they would have blown people's minds yeah i agree 100% from these pro's and they indeed deliver hands down The Best!
Emerson and Entwistle on the same stage pure amazing
Imagine Entwistle on Tarkus!!
and Baxter
LIKE A DREAM TO SEE THESE TWO TOGETHER!!!!
Not to forget the driver Simon Phillips!
Why does Joe have to spoil it.

holy shit John Entwistle playing ELP music. Now I've seen everything. Thank you Jeff Baxter for putting this show together.
It's Entwistle... he can play whatever he wants

'Video kills the radio star' , but rock n' roll never dies, at 63 now, I still never heard anybody belittling about any genre of rock music.
I'm so aware of it, such a shame we doesn't have prog bands today for teens like myself.

RIP Keith Emerson. Many many many thanks for all the great music you delivered during your life.
Nothing but the best any keyboardist worth their salt wants to play Fanfare. R.I.P. your music will never die. Thx.
May God Bless You Keith Emerson !! and Greg Lake ...
This is Bad Ass !!!
all Star Line Up !
Besides the original, Emerson, Lake and Palmer did this tune and gave it justice!
He said it, man! One of the greatest keyboards player that ever walked this planet!!
R.I.P Keith Emerson
IMO, he wasn't one of the best... He was THE best of all time !
Agreed.
THE G.O.A.T
What an immense bassist John was!
I was listening - not watching - until it got to the bass solo - my God !
Superb - no wonder the Who were the best rock band !
Did everyone forget that bassest John Estwistle is gone forever too? Best bass player that ever was.
Vic Senefsky don't forget Chris Squire...
It was the suckiest year ever for rock. We lost so many greats I am too sad to keep count.

The two of them had no equals. I was on my way to a gig when I heard about John dying. Not a great night.
Yeah I don't get it, I mean George Duke was a much better keyboardist than Emerson but no one has even been able to approach Entwistles level on bass
Discharge Summary Don't forget Sting. He sometimes plays a fretless Bass!!
...what a line-up....Emerson, Skunk, Walsh, Entwistle, etal. ....
R.I.P. Keith...you were one of my childhood idols!
R.I.P. Keith... best ever! Thanks for making and being part of the music of my life

I worked with an older woman who primarily listened to classical music and made her a mixtape of ELP. After listening in her car the first thing she asked was, "Who is the keyboard player?"

Man, look at this talent on stage. Awesome. Emerson was a genius.
Love the smiles & pure joy these men are having just playing music. Not a job or responsibility, just 4/5 guys having fun up there.

Simply the best - Been watching since the Nice - his fingers fly - I don't recall anyone like him in my life (and he is a super nice person)!
Simon Phillips on the kit, no slouch there.

RIP Keith - this was a dream band.
4:15 John Entwhistle blows our minds with his crazy slapping/shredding bass technique.
He never slapped he found it too percussive he popped but his main finger technique just sounded a little similar to slapping
