I believe you are the first 'foreigner' to have captured the city I was born and grew up in who choose to show the other, gentler side of Amsterdam. Even though I moved out 30 years ago, my family still lives there, so I still go there often. Thank you for showing the Amsterdam I love, instead of the touristic Amsterdam most original Amsterdammers have come to despise. Also thank you for showing Posthumus, one of the many unknown gems in the city center. Even though I'm a son of Amsterdam, I didn't know it existed. Now I must visit!
I’ve never told you guys just how much I love your videos. Your aesthetic sensibilities as artists are really appreciated. Love seeing your sweet relationship with each other. It takes so much hard work to make these videos the way you do and I hope you are rewarded generously!
Oddly I never see your four sisters on the boat except in the intro, I suspect they only drop on for a music session and then go home. In1984 I stood on a bridge over a canal in Amsterdam, the weather was warm and there was a smell from the water, I took a deep breath and I said to the girl who I was with " ah this is Canal number 5".😆
Thank you very much guys for this wonderful vlog for which I was waiting for over a year. Finally you reached your second hometown on this planet. As a Dutchman I'm very proud of that. The only thing I missed was that you play the violin at this for you such an amazing place. Again.. Thank you, have love and peace, Sam
Visited The Damage when in the Army. Only a day trip of about 48 hours and was so enamored with the style of neighborhoods, and some nightlife, that we just stayed up and slept on the way back. Y'all have such a keen eye and dignified classic style with a modern lens. Thank you for the memories.
Have just come across your site. Enjoy your low key approach and the fact filled episodes on wooden boat maintenance. I once considered buying a teak deck Choy Lee but backed away after the survey and purchased a 1968 Charlie Morgan 30 sloop that I sailed on the Chesapeake Bay for a decade. Look forward to work on MC 2.
What I love about Amsterdam is that the ubiquitous bikes and pedestrians give it a very human scale and feeling. Even as a Canadian visiting, it was very easy and common to strike up a conversation with the locals (in perfect English and often initiated by them), for something as trivial as getting your bike untethered from the morass of bikes at the train stations. Through situations like these I came to learn -- as you say-- that the Dutch are nothing like the reputation that certain aspects of the city gives them. The Dutch love their herring and it was the best I ever had, both smoked and pickled.
Thanks, very well captured, it’s one of my fav places, I would come two or three times a year on business, or sailing through from the UK. You caught the beauty and grandeur every well and a hint of resident life. Thanks.
I love this! Been to Amsterdam twice when I was younger and loved it. Of course I did the tourist things but I also enjoyed trying to be a temporary local. Wish I had the youth to do all of that and more again. What a lovely place and one of my favourites in Europe! You did it and my memories justice!
Like you I grew up in the Lower Mainland. My parents came from Norway and I go back there on a regular basis to see family. There are no direct flights to Norway from Vancouver so I usually go through Amsterdam. I usually spend a couple of days there between my flight from Vancouver and my flight to Stavanger. I enjoy exploring the city and the surrounding area. The best part of Europe is the train system. You can go almost anywhere. Happy adventures and enjoy the new year. I'm looking forward to the day when we can all travel again.
Can you believe I 1st visited Amsterdam in the 1950"s & seeing The Old Nickel Hotel 14mins into your vid brought back mixed memories of some heavy drinking nights in the city & well oiled, listening to some good jazz.As a Brit I had to do my National Service in the RAF travelling through Holland many times on my way to camps in Germany & Austria. Very Happy Memories the best being stationed in Vienna but also passing through Amsterdam on numerous occasions. When you get old, as I am nostalgia means a lot. All the very best for 2021 lets hope we get back to some semblance of normal life
I was planning to visit Amsterdam last year but for some reason I missed it. Now I deeply regret it. What a beautiful and charming city. Thank you for the video. I can watch it again and again. - Greetings from Seattle, WA.
'Buildings lean precariously from standing up too long.' OMG your use of words is soo beautiful, as is your charming, calming voice. You two are living life the way it should be done. Love your vids. I don't think I had ever been on a plane at 23. But you seem to regularly travel to Europe, from Canada! Fixing a boat for four years and studying, how did you fit that in? You have done a lot in your life, now sailing the world in such a tiny boat. You wont regret it. Funny, weed and brothels are legal here, but its rarely mentioned, not something tourists would even know. I've skipped ahead, will have to go back and catch up your journey. Thank you soo much.
Thank you for sharing. It is my country of birth. Canada, was also a country I lived in for many years, albeit, I now reside in Florida. Amsterdam, is also one of my favorite cities in Europe.
I have enjoyed your show so much and I especially enjoyed this traditional view of Amsterdam. I was there and 77, so yes my memories were of the Rijksmuseum, and lace curtains everywhere! My 30 year old daughter went in high school and of course was shown some of the more colorful, touristy spots. And when I think of painters, I often think of Piet Mondrian and Rembrandt first...perhaps then, van Gogh!
When you said you like good fries it brought back an old memory. My daughter‘s best friend in first grade was a vegetarian. For her 7th birthday she asked to go to MacDonalds. Her parents were surprised but she explained that everyone said they have the best French fries, so they went just to try the fries. If you dated the beginning of the video with the date it was recorded it would be less of a surprise when your baking in the heat on a video released two days after Christmas. I don’t know how long it takes you to make one of your composite music videos but I think you could get a fair number of viewers for a video that was just you as a quartet
When I said “video”I was thinking of channels that are just the musician making music videos. Your music is lovely and that you can make duets and quartets by yourself is amazing
Thank you for showing me Amsterdam, the city where I work. Only I have been working from home and haven’t been there since 13 March 2020. This gave me a glimpse of it and some sense of normalcy.
Hi Maya and Aladino, my first comment on a YT video in years. Your videos of your experience in the Netherlands has been inspiring to watch, and i’m Dutch. Very refreshing to see my country through your eyes. Great to see you two just be yourselves. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing, fully understand about family and not wanting to stick a camera in you personal life. When I visited Europe on the Bounty I would love to get lost and go for long walks finding hidden gems, away from the tourist spots. Thank you for sharing and you looked so pretty and classy in that dress.
I remember reading stories about windmills and ice skating in the winter. I never imagined Amsterdam in the summer. Such a beautiful city. Thank you for the tour. God Bless you both.
Another great video. Your film making technique and your story telling are really developing. We are currently overwintering in Amsterdam on our Carena 40 Make My Day. We did this last year also. Unfortunately the Covid lockdown has limited the gezeligheid drastically. This has been one of my favorite cities ever since I first visited in 1994. By the way a small historical detail. The buildings lean forward by design. This is because they are so narrow that moving large objects upstairs is nearly impossible so they are brought through the windows in via a hoist on the gable. The lean keeps objects from banging om the front of the building. happy holidays
I've been to Amsterdam many times. Love the place. Your video's are so interesting, thanks for sharing your life and times with us. Well done young lady.
I have never been to Amsterdam, but now I have a feeling that it is definitely worth doing! Thank you Maya for 20 minutes "virtual living" in Amsterdam
Early morning coffee (or beer if you are a Brit), sat outside Café Americain in Leidseplein watching the mad rush of cars, bikes, people and trams all wanting to be in the same space at the same time and yet no carnage! Fantastic City despite the rough bits, fantastic people and such an interesting place. I must go back once the madness is over and explore more of the countryside around the City.
What a nice presentation. Again ! Being Dutch, presently staying in Australia, i can fully agree on what you said. The obvious tourist things, what Amsterdam is known for is not representative for the Netherlands. Thank you for this video! It warmed my heart.
Oh my goodness girl of my own heart! I just bought ink for myself for Christmas! I bought a calligraphy set on gumtree second hand years ago and have always loved hand written everything and still do cards & letters esp OS. Its one of my favourite things to do.. When I travelled Europe I never made to Amsterdam. I am really sad I didn't maybe next time. I adore that shop! Thankyou for sharing. Isnt't that always the way the best part of place is known by locals and if you ask them I know I have always seen the heart and most beautiful part of a place because they showed it to me.
I've visited Amsterdam several times and can honestly say that despite being a Brit, i have never been part of any antisocial behaviour that we are so infamous for! Its a reputation i so wish we could disprove but, clearly not. Each generation of big teens reinforce it year on year!!! I love Amsterdam but would advocate some serious travel around the rest of the country. Its so beautiful, calm, gentle, welcoming and friendly. We will go again, when its safe to do so.... stay well both
I agree 100%. Den Bosch is an especially lovely city IMO. Maybe the best thing about the NL though is the people. I'm sure bad ones must exist but I've never come across anyone who hasn't been anything other than extremely pleasant and friendly. I'm sure that travelling about in the open air at cycling speed contributes to this. I always find it surprising how little traffic there is in towns and cities compared to the UK and most of Europe.
@@cornishhh cars are in ways discouraged in the centers of most (older and bigger) city’s, giving room to pedestrains and cyclists. Groningen is a good example, the guardian has a good story about it. Cars are only allowed through certain routes, funneled away back from the center, and not in the innermost center. What follows is that a bike is usually the handiest, or parking outside the center and walk (or bus).
I'M ASSUMING 14 YRS. OLD, PLUS 9YRS. AGO TELLS US UR AGE, BUT HOW YOU PUT YOUR WORDS TO US IS SUCH AN AMAZING GIFT U HAVE, THANK U 2 & HAVE A BLESSED NEW YEAR.
Just watching this at Great Barrier Island in NZ on board our 42 foot Catana. We lived in the Netherlands for 4 years,, and your wonderfully crafted video logs are so descriptive and joyful. I am Canadian, and my husband is a Kiwi. We do coastal NZ, and have sailed to the Pacific to Figi for the winter. You would love it here:). Lots of great fishing , and sailing.
Yay..so excited the video is here on Christmas, was not expecting it...even though I know you are tucked away and this video is a long time away from actual Christmas...still you took the time to upload it..I’m grateful.💕💕
Would have loved to see you with your violin. I need more of your music!!!!!! Great video. Spent a week there in 1973. Carried my guitar everywhere and always found someone to pick with.
Thank you for showing my city of berth so wonderful. I haven't there due to covid for quit a while. But you did a great job. I think I love the city dust as much as you do. Looking forward to your next video.
“The last twitches of a fish” 😂 A little ironic that I watch a sailing Channel to see land through your unique lens. (And of course Aladhino’s quirky cool humour 😊) Thankyou x
Hi Maya and Aladino. Thank you for sharing the beautiful scenes of Amsterdam. I’ve never been there but this video also reminds me of the days I spent in Prague, Czech, years ago. :-)
Your customary fine video reminded me of a most enjoyable visit to Het Sheepvaart (Maritime) Museum and went aboard the Amsterdam, the replica 18C East India Trading ship which you passed. And to Vondel Park and a performance of Brazilian Music - great instrumentalists and Singer. As you, and some comments point out, there's so much to enjoy beyond the sensationalism.
i live in the Netherlands, I visited Amsterdam maybe 10 times.. you are right though small there is so much more to see here. thanks for sharing this. Martijn
Thank you for showing us beyond the surface of Amsterdam. I’ve never been but appreciate your insights. Looking forward to seeing more content on your channel.
Hello, we spent the Covid months travelling with you two. We love your episodes, the adventures, calme, music and your poetic ways of describing your travels etc. To see your New serties on the Netherlands was the Cherry on the Sunday...as I am Dutch and m'y Dutch name is Anneke. I hot very nostalgique as you headed and visited Amsterdam. Thank you very Much for Sharing your travels, Music etc. Happy Holidays, All the best for 2021...and Happy Trails..stay safe. Regards from Anneke and Émile from Quebec, Canada.❤️
Thank you as a Dutch person that worked in Amsterdam and now locked down in the Philippines. You are doing a great job. And thank you for Not using sex to sell your Chanel
I love your vids. I just want to say, Maya, that people who look as you do can simply put on any old frock and look stylish. It's the privilege of the beautiful. Great share about Amsterdam! Best regards!
Yes, it’s the day after Christmas here in Houston. COVID cancelled our cruise which would have take us to Amsterdam. The aerial views of the city were welcome. It was new information to know the canals were concentric! Larry Misiak
I an a Canadian who has spent many many happy days in Amsterdam; I moved the the Netherlands for a year. May I recommend you rent a snore scooter and explore the bike paths with your arms wrapped around your partner. I promise you a magical day! (Also visit Haarlem, it is only 15 km away and is worth the trip)
🇨🇦 gezellig and hapjes - 2 of my favorite words! Canadian kid born to Dutch immigrants - you nailed Amsterdam - I have heimwee (am homesick) for the country of my Parents - well done !!
It is a very special place, illustrated so well by your excellent video. Funny, when we were there à few years ago, they were fishing a car out of the marina near Scheveningen. It's lights were off.
Aaawwww we thought we were the only ones who use wax seals. We enjoy it so much. Question? Do u have a signature ring ...that u use to seal your letters? Your sail ⛵ boat design would be perfect
Herb certainly does not envelope Amstradam Culture, agreed, for sure! Cannabis is legal here for years, (California, USA) but as in the Rastafarian Culture, permitted use of Cannabis, but in no way is required. Anyway, I love your approach to writing, creating, and narration!! never change that! your Photo-journalism, Images are absolutely stunning!
How i would like to be there with you. Watching your video makes me feel kind of homesick. I lived in Amsterdam for 1 year and there ist no other place on earth where i felt more at home since (and tht's some 25 years ago). And your video shows a love an respect for that precious citiy that makes me feel like i feel now. Well thanks for all your videos, this one espacially.
Just like you, Amsterdam is my favourite city in the world, whether it is the city centre or out in the Amsterdam East area where my father was born. Great to see it from your perspective.
Last time I was in Amsterdam (1984) they were pulling a dead body from the canal other than that I loved the place I went there by train every weekend I also loved the Van Gogh museum
If you guys start shopping for a new boat, you should take a close look at the Dragonfly 28, it seems like the perfect boat, they are wicked fast, able to handle rough seas, masts comes down without the need of a crane, lots of room, a little pricey but well worth it. We just purchased a 2020 Corsair Sport 880, kinda like the DragonFly. We sailed from our condo in Key Largo, Florida to Key West, Florida right before Christmas. We made the 94 mile trip in 5.8 hours and averaged 16.7 knots and several times reached 21.3 knots. We made $220,000 which is in line for what the Dragonfly 28 cost....
Great to escape to Amsterdam and see many of the places we’ve seen in pre covid lockdown visits! How I long to return. Love the letter writing and seals, that shop looked so intriguing, may take it up myself.
You’ve summed up what I’ve found of Amsterdam beautifully. The red light district, brown cafés etc are so totally incidental to this city of culture, history, tolerance, intelligence and beauty. Like you, it is one of my top cities in the world.
As i work in Amsterdam but don't live there i love cycling through the city to work. I'm always enjoying it when i come and pleased to leave for my little farm home in the evening. You did show it at its most charming, thank you for the tribute. Right now its weird when cycling to the train station the streets are empty due to covid. Hoping you are safe and thanks for a touch of summer this cold and windy boxing day or 2nd christmas day when your dutch.
Good on you for turning the camera off! Being present with others is the best present!
agree I wish more would do it with phones as I do
I believe you are the first 'foreigner' to have captured the city I was born and grew up in who choose to show the other, gentler side of Amsterdam.
I’m from The Hague... bud i completely understand 😉👍
I’ve never told you guys just how much I love your videos. Your aesthetic sensibilities as artists are really appreciated. Love seeing your sweet relationship with each other. It takes so much hard work to make these videos the way you do and I hope you are rewarded generously!
As always, a sensitive and accurate portrait of a place. Well done.
Thank you so much John!
13:00 - "Casual yet classy." Nailed it. Wow.
You ALWAYS look elegant to us!
You really tried to do the city justice! Good on you! I am looking forward to the rest of your stay in my country! (Yes its all mine 😃)🇾🇪
And to think of it that they came there via some Eau de Cologne. Cheers!
Thank you for the lovely video. It is indeed a unique City. Wishing you good health and safe travels. ⛵
amazing. Iam living almost 66 jr in Amsterdam! Never see such positive story. Big hug!
Absolutely loved this! It really does highlights Amsterdams beauty. Netherlands is a true gem!
Thanks, very well captured, it’s one of my fav places, I would come two or three times a year on business, or sailing through from the UK. You caught the beauty and grandeur every well and a hint of resident life. Thanks.

Best filmmakers, cutest boat, wonderful couple. You guys are tops.
I am always blown away by the bicycles at Central Station. As I write this you showed the bikes!

Thank you for the beautiful tour! You're recovering balance in the way the world views Amsterdam. And, you covered a LOT in less than 20 minutes!
Thank you for another cozy video and I agree with you Amsterdam is a very calm and nice city beautiful with all the canals and flowers
That was excellent! Really enjoyed that. Thanks so much for the tour!
I was planning to visit Amsterdam last year but for some reason I missed it. Now I deeply regret it. What a beautiful and charming city. Thank you for the video. I can watch it again and again. - Greetings from Seattle, WA.
Thanks for painting a nice picture of Amsterdam , Sixhaven good choice!
Awesome video and what a beautiful city, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the lovely stroll. I haven't been there but know people who think it is wonderful.

One of your best yet. You have a gift for articulation.

When I visited Europe on the Bounty I would love to get lost and go for long walks finding hidden gems, away from the tourist spots. Thank you for sharing and you looked so pretty and classy in that dress.
Thanks for the tour. I was in Amsterdam once during a 4 day bus tour of the Netherlands, so I didn't see much. Please bring us back.
Thanks for the lovely view of Amsterdam. Great music as usual. Enjoyed a taste of summer at Christmas time. Always like your brief food interludes.
I remember reading stories about windmills and ice skating in the winter. I never imagined Amsterdam in the summer. Such a beautiful city. Thank you for the tour.
God Bless you both.
That is the coolest "stationery store" I have ever seen. A dying art.
You captured the feel of Amsterdam, makes me miss it even more.

Enjoyed this immensely. Greetings
to you Maya and Dino from Zurich -
Switzerland.
Woohoo! I'm so excited your doing Amsterdam this time. Visited there 25 years ago. This is a great way to revisit.
Thank you for your beautiful description of Amsterdam!
Just gotta love A'dam in summer....gezellig....great vid guys thnx again
Thank you for showing my city of berth so wonderful.
I haven't there due to covid for quit a while.
But you did a great job. I think I love the city dust as much as you do.
Looking forward to your next video.
"Gezellig" en "lekker" very important words indeed.
“The last twitches of a fish” 😂 A little ironic that I watch a sailing Channel to see land through your unique lens. (And of course Aladhino’s quirky cool

still catching up from the beginning.... as well as keeping current with '2'... your videos and commentary are marvelous... please continue ;)
Hi Maya and Aladino. Thank you for sharing the beautiful scenes of Amsterdam. I’ve never been there but this video also reminds me of the days I spent in Prague, Czech, years ago. :-)
Nice to see a realistic view of Amsterdam. Thanks for visiting our lovely little country :)

Yes a beautiful vibrant city. I miss travelling!
Loved the video. I lived in Amsterdam for 4 years a long time ago. So bedankt en tot ziens.

Thank you for the lovely tour! Can't wait to see where you guys are spending the winter. Till then safe travels!
It’s great to get a new angle on familiar places Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you!
Heaven - what a contrast to a cold wet Boxing Day in Manchester - but my favourite Dutch Town is still Harlingen 😊
What a beautiful city, your tour was perfect!
Thanks so much for a wonderful tour. Great city. I have very similar writing supplies.
Yes, it’s the day after Christmas here in Houston. COVID cancelled our cruise which would have take us to Amsterdam. The aerial views of the city were welcome. It was new information to know the canals were concentric! Larry Misiak
Thank you for this great tour through my hometown ❤️
Thanks for the video of Amsterdam I really enjoy your selection of music.
Fine, engaging filmmaking. Around 10:00, at “Cheers,” I happened to be opening a drink. Without thinking, I lifted my can as well. Salut!
So glad you showed us your Amsterdam to us and I can see it being a warm feeling place.
Thanks Magic Carpet for sharing Amsterdam view...
We do have a stamp, but it's not a custom one, it's just an anchor! A custom one of our boat would be so cool one day :)
You made Amsterdam far more appealing to me 👍🏼So thank you.
Went to Amsterdam from Venice, was going to hang out for a day or two, but stayed 2 weeks, felt like so hard to leaf lol 😂
That is a frequent occurance and usually a tourist
Thnx for this videographic christmas present! Very nice video!
Great to escape to Amsterdam and see many of the places we’ve seen in pre covid lockdown visits! How I long to return. Love the letter writing and seals, that shop looked so intriguing, may take it up myself.
Have been lucky enough to spend time in Amsterdam, and like you, I love the city
You’ve summed up what I’ve found of Amsterdam beautifully. The red light district, brown cafés etc are so totally incidental to this city of culture, history, tolerance, intelligence and beauty. Like you, it is one of my top cities in the world.
Very inspirational video and fantastic story telling. Thanks very much for sharing
