      @thereorderboard  4 года назад +14

      Yes I agree, although Wogan's commentary largely misses it out...mainly because of the lack of a reordering scoreboard! I almost wondered whether it would be worth showing a 'what you'd need to win' element, like in Darts lol :-) Before Yugoslavia got that 1 point, the UK could have taken it, but only if Yugoslavia got nothing from Germany at all (which was close, they only got 1 point), and Yugoslavia gave the UK 12....perhaps less likely, but it could say 'requires 24 from two juries'. No where to fit in in anyway! Overall, I didn't think the UK deserved to be second, but the singing in English thing gave us an unfair advantage I think.

    During my spare time (read: procrastination), I tried to conduct this voting in reverse order. It is first a Sweden vs Austria contest, then it transitions into a Sweden vs United Kingdom contest. Italy also seem to do extremely well in the first half. After a particular round of voting, three points separate the top 5 (Austria, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Sweden). Denmark and Yugoslavia come out of nowhere (at somewhere around the halfway mark).

I still wouldn't rank it as the winner but I no longer feel hostility to it (I mean, we did get the wonderful Helga and Oliver the following year after all). Great job there once again. I really love the purple light appearing across countries when they got their points, it looks amazing! Nice idea wit the waving flags too, but there's something I noticed about them, you never use rectangular ones! Is there a reason behind that?

    • @thereorderboard
      @thereorderboard  4 года назад +2

      Thank you! Yes there is a reason - there's a great resource called countryflags.com and they have free downloadable images of flags and you can get them square or circular or rectangular etc...however, the rectangular ones aren't standardised in shape. The Belgian flag is practically square, the Luxembourg one is different to the French one and so on...not to mention Switzerland! So I'd have to artwork them up to work in a grid - to make them a similar size, otherwise it'd be really noticeable that they are all different shapes. That's why I've largely stuck with squares or circles so far.
