These tips are probably good for a beginner. But as a professional plumber for 8 years let me give you some advice; the flow of the water doesn't necessarily have to be off. In fact I've put PVC together with more flow and pressure. Sometimes you can't turn it off. Best bet is to open that spigot at the end first so when you do get it back together it doesn't have the full pressure and no glue will stick the valve. Also you don't need the union, it's useful if you ever intend to remove it again like on a pump or a well pump that might be difficult to fix in line, typically use two unions so you end up with a piece in the middle like this: |-----| and keep the threaded part on the piece and all you'll need is a tiny bit of play and some channel locks will take it right off. I would advise using two couplings or (even better) two bell ends. The clear glue is a good route, it's easier on the hands and cleans up easier but ditch the heat gun, just get cut back farther, and please some primer. The heat gun is actually bad long term, heating pvc to that temperature where you can remove fittings will make the joints brittle over time, especially when exposed to sunlight/open air. I would start with the side where the water isn't running, get it cut and glued and let it sit maybe 5 or 10 minutes, then prime both ends, glue both ends and stick it together and hold it in place for 30 seconds to a minute. You NEED to start gluing BOTH ends. Inside the fitting as well. Prime both ends. It works best when you prime the fitting and the pipe and then immediately glue the fitting and the pipe, make sure to apply the fitting or pipe in a way you can turn it (once it's on) a good 45 degrees. So you want to put a fitting, say an elbow that faces left < you want to put it on facing up ^ or down v and THEN turn it the right way and then hold it together. That allows the glue to mash up and coat the inside. Best scenario I've found is if you're gluing free pieces of pipe like putting valves together before installing in the ground or pre-fabricating a long piece, I find it's bullet proof to put a good bit of glue, then spin the fitting or pipe in your hands and watch the beed of glue coat the inside lip of the fitting or pipe and keep rolling it if possible to get that lip completely sealed. Again, this works best on free pipes that aren't fixed in position or in an open ditch or wall you can work with more freely. Best luck
yes, thanks for your suggestions, i think i still have a lot of mistakes in the implementation, i will change it
@@Alex-Tips it's not entirely bad though. Alot of times you can get away with what you're doing and it'll last for many years with no consequences. I've seen guys with more years in than me doing a worse job on the clock and it ends up being fine. I've just found over these years there's alot of factors that play into things. Hell sometimes we do things absolutely perfect and it still ends up leaking and though there's a reason for it, sometimes things just happen. Just keep working at it. You need to explore all types of fittings vs what's most common vs what's cheaper vs what's best. A coupling may cost a dollar but if you need some extra pipe and your pipe is like two dollars a stick, you can get away with buying those two sticks, you get the two couplings basically in the bell ends and then you get the extra pipe. Same thing with 45s. Alot of people don't carry 45s but rather than using four elbows to come over and down and across, two 45s will get you there better, the PSI drop will be minimal and the flow will be better. There's alot of videos online I see of "professionals" that I wouldn't let put drainage in my yard. LOL just keep at it. Ditch the heat gun. Get some primer. Start priming and gluing BOTH the pipe and the fittings and start turning the fittings as they go on to get that seal. Teflon tape for all threaded parts. And get into the science of it. Learn the chemical welds and how water flows and how pressure works in a pipe system. You can't go wrong learning more. In PVC work I've found that less is more in material but not in work. Sometimes you have to rebuild an entire four foot piece to get the best results. It's always sketchy at best on work you haven't done if you trust your instincts and your work.
So now the cost is up to $1000
I fixed home owner attempts for years.
Chemtrol makes pvc wet dry cement.
4 inches of pipe, two couplings and a 90 degree elbow would cost a lot less than the pvc union. Other option is pvc flo-span coupling or dresser coupling for lines fixed into place
Please, ask your water company to turn off the water prior to your repair. The glue will set better without water pressure. And I fixed(replaced)100's of curb stops that were broken by plumbers or home owners.
Install a ball valve between your house and your water companies water meter.
You don't own the meter, or the curb stop.
Your own valve and you can turn it off immediately at 3am @ below zero.
It's your channel now.
