Wow. I'm late. I'm sorry if I make you have to come back to this. The thing is, it's definitely not a V-shape but it's not flat either. The M40x is literally flatter. It just makes me wonder how the heck does a company screw that up? You would be way better off getting some other headphones or get the M40x. The last thing you want is to spend more money on something that's literally less flat than it's "predecessor"
I'm sorry but I disagree with quite a few headphones mentioned on this list, and I believe more should have been said about the pros and cons about the headphones. Bose while having exceptional noise cancellation, is not really known for having the sound quality to back it up. Sennheiser HD 800 had that notorious 6k peak in the treble that is quite painful to listen to, they need to be carefully modded and amp/dac matched (which would mean spending even much more after the $900-1000 they go for now.) but they are insanely comfortable and have soundstage and transients that are hard to beat. There are better bangs for bucks than the m50x. Many find the m50x to be quite bad with its not well extended muddy bass sucking out the midrange to it's highs that get worse with hm5 pads. It's pads are not comfortable for many with larger ears. I'm not trying to offend anyone but just saying. Sennheiser HD 650 needs a good (not necessarily expensive) amp/dac and some mods to sound good amazing, don't use them portably. Their tonal balance is very well praised in the audio world. One could just get them on a good rig and not need anything else. With Most "consumer" audio channels and websites which should be dedicated to knowing each and every details of a headphones pros and cons clearly, don't. before recomming them to someone who's going to spend their money on it.
+NeoBlue sure, that's a good budget. I'll need to know a few things from you first. What are you looking for in a headphone? What genre's do you listen to? Are you prepared to collect "high rez" material to listen to? Are you looking for home listening or portable? Open back or closed back? Once I know more about your preferences and wants in a headphone, I can recommend you one. Are you looking for a "audiophile" headphone or a "consumer" headphone?
Vanheim hmm, i'm looking for a mix of both "consumer" while retaining the "audiophile" part. I can't really shell out for an amp or a dac, so i'm also not sure what to do there.. in terms of open back or closed, i'd prefer closed but i'll go with an open back if it comes down to it. genre of music? generally something that performs reasonably well regardless of genre's//far from being "perfect" and "excelling" in a single genre, that's too boring
Vanheim I do have lossless audio files that a friend gifted me, but i can never truly experience the high audio fidelity w/o a dac or an amp, so then again im also stumped
I need closed back for the office. I also enjoy a bit of a v-shaped sound. I've tried several over-ears such as Senn Momentum 2.0, Bowers&Wilkins P7, AT MRS7, Beyerdynamic DT990, AKG k550 and a few others... To my ears I just don't think they sound better than similarly priced in ears. Yes, the stage is wider with over-ears, but I just feel more immersed with in-ears. Plus the sound isolation and comfort are better with high-end in-ears (IMO). I so have a nice Schiit DAC/Amp combo...so power isn't the issue. I've tried to make the switch, but am never satisfied...
Would the M50X be good for listening to music daily? I listen to rock, metal, rap, and alternative, and I don't really know that much about headphones so should I get the m50x or a different pair? Also I'm looking to spend no more than £500
Would you rather buy Momentum Wireless 2.0's or QC35's for soundquality? And if I was looking for wireless headphones without necessarily using noise nancelling, would the Soundlink Wireless AE 2 be comparable to those? I'm just looking for the best sound and bluetooth, I don't need noise cancelling, without money beeing an issue. And what about the Sony MDR-1ABT or MDR-100ABN? Damn, so many options ^^
I have the m50, Shure srh940, sennheiser pxc450, Pioneer hdj2000, Beats studio worst headphone in the collection, Bowers & Wilkins p5 series 2, Pioneer hdj 2000 mk2. The Pioneer mk2, p5 series and pxc450 are my favorite in that order
hey nice video! because i am short of budget can u pls suggest me a comfortable & durable ( just need this 2 things) hp(over the ear) under or 50$ price range? tnx :)
+valar morghulis I have tried the sony ones before, I found their bass extremely boomy and not hard hitting. I currently own a pair of UE9000s and they have started to fall apart.
The m50x's hurt my eardrums. It's like they try as hard as possible to push detail in your ear to the point where they end up sounding detailed but harsh. The bass is also reeally muddy.
I find that the ATH-A700X are the best bang for your buck instead of the ATH-M50X. I own both but prefer the soundscape of the 700X (neutral monitor class) to the 50X (V-band) although I wouldn't recommend the 700X for outdoor use. They're too huge. I changed out the OEM padding on the 700X to hybrid pads from BrainWavz and they're awesome! My favorite pair of headphones got even better after the pad change. For starting openbacks I'd go with Massdrop's HE-350 ($99) then move up to AKG K7XX ($199). The JBL Everest have a HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE design flaw and I would consider most people to steer away. The headband cracks because it's made of plastic. Instead, go with the JBL Synchros S700, nearly the same sound stage with built in DSP and a *METAL* headband that won't break or crack and even the earcup driver housing is all aluminum. Best Bluetooth I'd recommend are Parrot Zik 3. Pricey but amazing with lots of features. Playing directly from a USB cable to the headphone sounds amazing since cables have larger bandwidth than wireless. I got over 20 pairs of headphones ranging from known brands like AKG and Sennheiser to known but rare brands like Ferrari, yes Ferrari the Italian super car manufacturer made headphones, the Ferrari Cavallino T350 (discontinued and rare)......maybe I should do video reviews as well...Also, he should've added the Blue Lola's in the review. I see them in the background. I have the Mo-Fi's and they're a fun pair to listen to.
Do you have any negative things to say or just all good things? Because there are a couple of things people should consider before buying these. I know, since I own a few of these. Sony H.EAR On: the noise cancellation is heavily affected by wind. So much so, that if you're in public, indoors at a mall just walking around, that'll be enough wind to cause a "WHOOOSHH" noise that you will definitely notice if you have the slightest ear for detail. Breezy day outside? It'll overpower the music for sure. Very sensitive to that! Only with noise cancellation on, though. Some headphones are just designed more cleverly with that in mind but it's as if these headphones didn't consider that at all. Really sad, since it's the only major shortcoming of those headphones for me. Everything else is amazing!! Shure SRH440: which I use as recording headphones on the mic (kind of a fallback/plan b headphone for me. The clients in my studio use it more than I do. They're just good, affordable tracking headphones to me.) Not super comfortable but not unpleasant. It's good because it's pretty honest, cheap, and doesn't bleed much at all. I would not say that they're practical/amazing for the average/above average music listener, though. For music listening/walking around, I'd definitely want something else. Just wanted to throw that info out for anyone considering those headphones. They're all good headphones but not only are their pros/cons personal or subjective, they're situational. I do reviews on my channel if you are interested. I've got a couple headphone reviews and plan on doing more, in depth reviews of some of the one's mentioned here!
I have the Ath M50x and I use for it as a amp/dac the iBasso D14 (it is very good), but now I want an upgrade so i thought the oppo pm 3 would be perfect for me ?! Because i want a closed back over ear headphone .
SRH440's are ok. That was my first proper professional pair. However, after trying the DT770 Pro 80 Ohms, the SRH440's are junk compared to those. Listened to this on some M100's, these are for fun :)
These are only from popular brands and popular headphones. There are a lot of brands you hear for the first time but sound is great, like oppo, rbh, soundmagic.
What a bunch of BS saying the best SQ comes from full size cans. I got plenty of IEMs that will beat out full size cans in SQ. On that note I just got my AKG 7xx Red Edition from Massdrop yesterday. They are superb
The M50s are flat and very accurate for a reason. They're original purpose was studio monitoring, in which you want flat and accurate. Plus, flat doesn't mean bad. Just because they are flat Ana's accurate doesn't mean they're bad.
You will probably want to invest in an amp&dac to push the high impedance ones (hd600, he400i, etc.). It's not all about the impedance though, planars generally need a lot of power to reach their full potential.
The M50X flat? Absolutely not! booming bass, harsh highs and recessed mid range. The only headphone a returned within 10 days of ownership. There are better bang for the buck headphones than these.
+jawtek82 M40x much more balanced. The Beyerdynamic DT 770 (80 ohms version) big bass without the harsh highs better (less recessed) mids and cleaner sounds, these are what I replaced the M50X with.
I bought airplane adapter before my flight and then realized I could plug in to one socket and still get the same sound. most people were doing that. wasted cash :-/
I took these off the list for the m50x basically..I have a pair and use the m70s like everyday but I think the as m50s are still a better value personally.. Hope this helped!
This list does not make it for me at all. I will just rank closed back over-ear phones under $400 street price based on my personal experience . . . from top to bottom . . . Master & Dynamic MH40, Oppo PM-3, PSB M4U1, NAD VISO HP50, Sennheiser Momentum 2.0, Bower & Wilkins P7, Meze 99 Classics, Bang & Olufsen H6, V-Moda m100, Accidentally Extraordinary 51st Studio, Sony MDR -1A, Audio Technica ATH-M50X, Beyerdynamics DT770 Pro . . . may have forgotten a couple. BTW and FWIW, I own all of these.
i am new into headphone and do my most of the listening via mobile. can anyone recommend a good headphone (budget $100+) and it have to be comfortable.
M50X is a good start around $130ish but the price fluctuates often lower on amazon. also the SRH840, dt770, and Sony studio. all of these are around ear closed back headphones. Open headphones are not good for travel. I think Sony and Audiotechnica have some cheaper noise canceling cans around $150 that of course aren't as good as the bose but for half the price that's expected.
I've had the ath m40x for a year and they are amazing, they have a flat sound, they are around 100 dollars or less, they were my first pair of great headphones and use them daily, maybe you should give them a look
I recommend you guys at 'Sound Guys' to check out the 'Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay H7' headphone. They are extremely good. Take a look here for the review someone at 'Head-Fi.org' did of them: www.head-fi.org/products/beoplay-h7/reviews/15807 Let me know if you will do a review of those as i do own those headphones myself and would be happy to see a review of them from you :-).
It's not like there's any way of getting it, but the $50k orpheus is probably the best.
Now we're talking! Those cans are legendary!
Lol that's true but for that I'd rather get an Audi :p
+Bardock The Legendary Warrior It's not overpriced. It just uses overly-expensive components including the vacuum amp.
lmfao
Woo Audio WA234, HiFiMan X, HD800S, ak380, Cypher Labs 720, LG V10, Focal Utopia , OPPO PM3 ,
furnish my man cave and still have $$$$ left over.
You should make the thumbnail more colorful Adam. I thought I had already watched this video as it looked faded out from my subscriptions view.
Oh man good to know I didn't even think of that thanks
V-moda crossfade m-100s are an excellent pair of cans as well. They also have a wireless version for like $10 more if you're into that.
They are but get the extra large pads because the regular ones are way to shallow.
Jefafa Von Richthofen agreed, I haven't had the chance to actually get the XL pads yet though
who else has vmoda?? i am thinking to buy vmoda crossfade wireless
I just got my Status Audio HD Two headphones this Sunday and LOVE THEM!!!
Also got the Shure in ear bass earbuds..sooo good
Although it is a bit old now, thanks for the vid. It helped me narrow down the field for a new set of cans.
Still using my ATHm50s after 4years. luckily bought them on amazon when the hype wasn't there, and on sale, so got em for like 100$
where? lol maybe used for 120
cheapest I saw at amazon was 139
>M50x
>"Flatter sound"
their frequency response is literally a downwards hill
It's like a fucking V-Shape that becomes an I-Shape after 50% volume
lmao
douche. thats why you got fired
I don't know if laugh or cry at idiots like you
Wow. I'm late. I'm sorry if I make you have to come back to this.

Are you fucking kidding?

Listening with qc35(The best
Hey sound guys! Is the Sennheiser pxc550 good?
I have the momentum wireless 2.0 and i love them. :)

Would you need amplifiers with any of these?

You refer to flat sound a bit, I previously thought it was bad. Can you please explain what you mean by flat sound?
I would like to hear your reviews on the Status Audio HD-2 and CB-1
How's the bass on the Everest 300?
You guys should check out the Nura headphones that was recently on Kickstarter
I literally don't even trust this channel
Please review the Aftershox Bluez 2S.. I am curious about your opinion on that device. Thanks!
would love to see a compare video with the QC35 vs Sony's 1000x
I've been wanting to buy a good pair of headphones for a while now. I wanted to buy the V-Moda Crossfade m-100... Is it worth it?
ATH-M40x all the way. The Superlux HD668B is pretty awesome too.
hey nice video! because i am short of budget can u pls suggest me a comfortable & durable ( just need this 2 things) hp(over the ear) under or 50$ price range? tnx :)
Nice quality channel! Informative as well:) you have a new subscriber! 👍✌️😎
Would urbanite xl wireless be good enough compared to the first one
HD598? I personally believe that they deserve being on the list alongside the M50x's.
AKG k182 better than M50X while cheaper? I absolutely think so. A little bass boost but i don't mind that. review these please :)
Listening to this vid with my HD-800S :)
What do you think about audeze el-8?
can you do a audiophile high end top 10 headphones ?
like with sennheiser 800s , stax sr009 something like these ?
can you guys do a best gaming headset video please? that would be cool
eeh, isn't hd600 the flatter from 600 series senns? I thought 650's are a bit darker and bassier.
Love it.... ur awesome...don't forget
Do these work with nice such as the blue yeti or blue snowball
Hello, can you please suggest some good bass head headphones preferably with Bluetooth. Thank you.
Check out the Sony MDR XB950bt's. They're bass heavy and Bluetooth over ear headphones.
+valar morghulis I have tried the sony ones before, I found their bass extremely boomy and not hard hitting. I currently own a pair of UE9000s and they have started to fall apart.
+valar morghulis how about the VModa Bluetooth headphones ?
Any chance of a video on budget headphones my budget is £50
nice video I'm looking to buy some headphones and I want the bangs and olfsen h7 can they complete with those on this list
The m50x's hurt my eardrums. It's like they try as hard as possible to push detail in your ear to the point where they end up sounding detailed but harsh. The bass is also reeally muddy.

How are the V-Moda Crossfade wireless headphones?
Do you have any negative things to say or just all good things? Because there are a couple of things people should consider before buying these. I know, since I own a few of these.

3:00 the Shure SRH440's 3m cable is coiled and so isn't that long in real life

thanks for the video. what about the hd598 and pioneer mx9?
Yeah they are nice but i'm using them mostly at home... they don't fit outdoors that much
I have tested them 2 weeks ago when i was in the Netherlands. They are pretty expensive. maybe i should sell my pioneer mx9
I have the Ath M50x and I use for it as a amp/dac the iBasso D14 (it is very good), but now I want an upgrade so i thought the oppo pm 3 would be perfect for me ?! Because i want a closed back over ear headphone .
The list isn't good.
V-Moda m100
NAD VISO HP50
And some others sound a lot better than some of the ones you named (bose, mx50, etc
Hey man what's your favorite headphones ?
Just a question, are the m40x from audio-technica stereo or surround?
These are all STEREO.
Surround is just bullshit
Jeremy Clarkson Ok. Thank you!
I love my cb3 hush's
Great video but why isn't this being made at the end of the year? It's still summer...
We do the updates twice a year so there will be another at the end of the year:)
Yup yup fair enough. I commented this halfway through the video so I should've finished watching first. My bad!
have you used all these products? I'm pretty close to calling shenanigans.
Heard, yes. Own, no unfortunately :(..perks of being in NYC there's a lot of places to go that have headphones on display
Can you give anymore information on the CB3 Hush? Sounds to good to be true for the price.
you need to review the bluedio victory.

Whats about V-moda Crossfade wireless?

Why is no one mentioning V-Moda M100?
Just a loud bassy headphone
Is vmoda crossfade wireless good??
isn't the JBL everest 300 an on-ear headphones instead of over-ear, I think the everest 700 is the over-ear headphones
Is it possible to get the Cb3 hush in the Uk ? Link please.
Which OPPO headphones?
Grado? No one mentions them, I wonder why.
do the sony headphones come with a microphone?
Dat Boi yeah because with out one how would it do ANC

No love for the Sony MDR-7506?
are any of these headphones able to reach their full potential without an "above average" soundcard?
You will probably want to invest in an amp&dac to push the high impedance ones (hd600, he400i, etc.). It's not all about the impedance though, planars generally need a lot of power to reach their full potential.
I've got M50x's and they're fairly low ohm, any decent amp should drive them fine.
What these guys said lol... Pretty much any of these besides the planar magnetic ones will work fine
+Matt_Wutang my in-ears can get down to 9ohm
bro y not get a soundcard those things rock
Fostex T50RP MK 3?
I would add the Fidelio x2
The M50X flat? Absolutely not! booming bass, harsh highs and recessed mid range. The only headphone a returned within 10 days of ownership. There are better bang for the buck headphones than these.

+jawtek82 M40x much more balanced. The Beyerdynamic DT 770 (80 ohms version) big bass without the harsh highs better (less recessed) mids and cleaner sounds, these are what I replaced the M50X with.
agree, do they actually listen to those headphones ?? hard to belive
I cant believe there is no v-moda crossfade wireless in the list.
Pls review bluedio t3+ and sennheiser 202
Bludios sound like a wet blanket is packed inside them.
Aaaaand again with those crappy M50Xs...
Jeremy Clarkson sooo overrated
Spongeboi Jesus you're right

instantly regretted exchanging my sennheiser for m50x they have absolutely no bass
I am listening that vid with twice potatoes.
+Jefafa Von Richthofen Sony MDR7506 is what I was referring to for closed cans.
I've had the ath m40x for a year and they are amazing, they have a flat sound, they are around 100 dollars or less, they were my first pair of great headphones and use them daily, maybe you should give them a look
+Bardock The Legendary Warrior thanks for the suggestion but out of my budget 😕
+Jefafa Von Richthofen thanks a lot guy, yes.. I have heard about m50x and would try for that. Any inear Bluetooth a round 50 bugs!
what about Bluedio guys...i have the T2s from bluedio and honestly i think they are better than Beats
I recommend you guys at 'Sound Guys' to check out the 'Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay H7' headphone. They are extremely good. Take a look here for the review someone at 'Head-Fi.org' did of them: www.head-fi.org/products/beoplay-h7/reviews/15807
Let me know if you will do a review of those as i do own those headphones myself and would be happy to see a review of them from you :-).
HD 600 Mustard Race, better than the 650 actually
