The Single Strike Style probably is also based off the Kung Fu Style of Bajiquan. That stance he's in is very close with the common elbow strike in the style. Just name a few, characters like Leo from Tekken, Yun from Street Fighter, and probably the most famous Akira from Virtua Fighter, use this style and all do the same elbow strike. Hell, there's even a whole manga called Kenji that made Bajiquan more well know.

    • @ZXNovaBoom
      @ZXNovaBoom 5 лет назад +34

The name single strike is likely a reference to Li Shuwen, the most famous practioner of Bajiquan. "A second strike isn't necessary" is his catchphrase because he very rarely ever needed more than a single strike to take anyone down.

It’s also why Pancham, a pure fighting-type needs to be in the presence of a dark-type mon in the party for it to evolve. It’s basically evolving thanks to the "bad influence" of the dark type, becoming fighting/dark. That’s some cool lore for this line too IMO.

The eastern inspirations could also fit into Hong Kong which was a British colony until 1997 (coincidentally the same year I was born) so it’s not that weird to have a more Chinese Asian inspiration with the DLC, after all the British owned so much that f the world and you have to leave mainland Galar to get to the isle right, you have to leave the UK to get Galar after all so I am not too surprised and in fact am glad to see another tough of history people tend to ignore.
Also Hong Kong is becoming a hot spot for making martial arts movies so that gives the bears more reason for being wushu.

Cool concept, but there’s a different theory. It seems like the Isle of Armor is based on Greece- specifically Kleftiko Milos. Greek influence could also fit into Urshifu’s origin as well as it just being a Kung Fu bear. I think Urshifu’s Rapid Strike Style is based on Athenians and their naval battle mastery, note the Water Typing. Single Strike is based on Spartans, specifically The Fight in The Shade/Battle of Thermopylae. That gives it the Dark Type. Mix that with a bear that knows Shoal-in Kung Fu and you have Urshifu.

I see it more relating to Hong Kong, than Greece. Your ideas have points and especially since Pokémon can pull form all over but Hong Kong was a British colony until a little over 20 years ago. So it would make more sense for a direct comparison to Hong Kong which is very eastern than a subtle Greece with a very eastern paint job.

Cool theory, but unfortunately Greece can't be the primary inspiration. urshifu to be a legendary pokemon ?
Is that a good reason on why urshifu should be classified as a legendary pokemon ? It’s not a deity or creature based on myths such as dragons (hydras, wyverns, wyrms, drakes), phoenixes, golems or genies, so what makes urshifu special ? It’s just a kung fu bear and there’s so many urshifu roaming around the globe protecting temples. I’m pretty sure that legendary pokemon is one of a kind or there’s few of them, but urshifu has a pre-evolution and this means that there’s so many of them, that’s suspicious of a legendary pokemon of being too many, because of this, urshifu doesn’t suit the title of legendary pokemon.

I’m not sure if kung-fu is a good reason for
urshifu to be a legendary pokemon ?

Exactly, lemme see what else can he find.
I already know the more "basic" stuff.
It's inspired by the Real Hydra, the Mythical Hydra, The Evil Euro-Dragon fought at the end of most Euro-folktales, Thanatos, Giants, and some Death-themed stuff, even the Serpent (can't remember the name) that eats the World Tree and causes Ragnarok fits (since both Wolfs also seem to have Norse inspiration)
But I'm sure there's much more to it, Main-Plot Pokemon always have some deep research put into them.
Maybe he will find some Alchemy symbolism, or an explanation as to why the Hydra form looks like a Hand

There are many, many, *many* Pokemon based on Myths and Legends that aren't classified as Legendary. Hydreigon is based on the Yamata-no-Orochi (japanese Hydra), Corviknight is Odin's ravens, etc.
      So that's a non-factor.
Number of individuals isn't relevant either. Even since Gen 1, there's been proof of that being the case.
Artificial Legendary Pokemon could be replicated. With the right materials, you could make a new Mewtwo (modify Mew's DNA), Genesect (find a fossil + Tech upgrades), Type: Full (use Aether Fnd's blueprints, like Macro Cosmos did), etc.
Other Legendaries have been shown to Canonically have multiple copies of them. Manaphy can reproduce, creating more Manaphy or Phione. Shaymin had an entire population in the Giratina movie. The 1st 3 Regis have multiple copies of them made by Regigigas across the globe, possibly even Regieleki too. Diance is just Carbink's Queen, a mutation caused every certain amount of time. Lugia had a baby in the series. The Galarian Bird trio shows that there are multiples of them. Solgaleo and Lunala reproduce, creating more Cosmogs (you can even do it in-game once). Meltans are literally poping-up uncontrollably from a special Box in Go. Etc.
Heck, not even Base Stat Total matter. Usually most lower Legendary Trio members would have 580, which is outclassed by regular mons like Pseudo Legendaries and Slaking. Urshifu has 550 BST, pretty low for a Legendary, but others have even less. Sylvally has 570BST, and the absolute lowest is Cosmog with 200 BST, that's as weak as Magikarp and weaker than a Metapod.
The only real reason for a Legendary to be classified Legendary, is that Pokemon (as in the whole franchise and company) recognizes them as Legendary.
Urshifu at least has the role of protectors and a whole game story dedicated to them, which is more than what we got for others

Another thing to take note of is that Asian Black Bears are the most bipedal of all bears, known to be able to walk on their hind legs for long periods of time where as other bears only get on their hind legs for certain tasks. Even though the only bear Pokémon to NOT be bipedal is stufful, I still think it’s an important note to take especially since Urshifu is very stance and martial arts based.

7:05 I've studied kenpo as a kid and I don't know a single block that looks like that. It kind of looks like a deviation of a mid/torso block being turned into a high/head block by bending the elbow, which you're not supposed to do when doing a mid/torso block, not to mention it's kind of a bad way to protect your face as a hard enough impact would send your own fist into your face, mitigated only by the position of the fist which could still potentially cause severe thumb damage or have your thumb poke your eye if you're especially unlucky...

Single Strike Style is definitely based on Akira's Bajiquan (Eight Extremities Fist) due to the upwards elbow strike and that left rake hand.
Rapid Strike Style matches Lion's Northern Praying Mantis style. The stance and stretched index finger hand shape.
