Cool sounds very nice as expected. Can’t wait to see reviews of the other models. Also would love to see you review the new budget Markbass stuff. The yellow jazz bass looks cute and from what I heard in the shop is good value for money
I also miss the claw rating, **but** to be fair the reviews have always been so well done that I could accurately guess what the rating would be. every. single. time.
Nice open P tone! The preamp seems hot and modern; a double edged sword. Passive tone would be cool for older tones. Very pretty instrument. That super bright slap tone sounds very expensive like a kubicki or something. Pretty good
Very interesting; thanks for recording/posting this. I've been hoping for a while that Sire would offer a wider selection of instruments with more than 20 frets, and this one sounds pretty good. It would be interesting to find out how that "feisty" treble sounds in a mix with other instruments.
Such a pretty and high-quality instrument - and a great value for money. All Sire necks and frets I've seen seem to be awesome. The J pickup sounds *really* nice to my ears. I'm not quite as excited about the P, but it might be the brand-new strings. I definitely want to hear the P with flatwounds. Thank you for the great video, Lobster!
Beautiful bass! Just revisited your review on the U5. Then when I saw U7, "oh it's another short scale bouncing off the U5:) Such a cool color too. But even though it's a 34 scale version of the U5 short scale it's a great instrument. Another excellent review as usual!
I'm sad the U-series is no longer exclusively short scale. I was hoping for something like the U5 but with a rosewood fretboard. Edit: the Poly Blue Octave is a great pedal, I got a little remote footswitch to turn the fuzz on and off without having to press that tiny button all the time.
Damn! It’s like Sire was reading my mind. I’ve always liked the aesthetic of the U5 but I was never interested in a short scale. Now they’ve got my attention!
Great review Lobster, I've been waiting for this. I'm a sucker for the Aerodyne styling, I recently got an older MIJ PJ jazz. Re: modding; I like the idea of the black one with all black hardware and the Frank Bello EMG's with red covers.

hello dear lobster, this is France, always an excellent video, nice presentation of the Sire U7, pretty bass with a quality/price ratio very well received by Sire. I hope to see a demo of Sire Z3 soon and why not a confrontation with a STERLING BY MUSIC MAN.
I still like the sound of the Yamaha BB 434 PJ better, but this U7 definetly is not something to be ashamed of anyway. I think this goes head-to-head with the Fender Aerodyne in the sound department. Regarding the active controls, it can be a plus or an issue, it assumes the player has a nice sense of the sound frequencies - something not every bass player has well developed yet. It will only be a plus if the owner has developed this notion well and pull nice tones from it. Overall who buys a U7 will be happy I guess. Another great review as always by one of my favorite bass reviewers. Please review the Yamaha TRBX174 for us PJ bass cats when you have the chance - that will be appreciated a lot. Thanks!

That’s a sweet lookin’ bass. Sounds pretty sweet too! I wish I needed a pj so I’d have an excuse to buy it. Thanks, Lobster. Still eagerly anticipating your G5 review!
Thats a nice bass Lobster! I like the more minimalist look, sounds good too!😊 Sometimes i think the lack of a pickguard frees up the sound and sustain a bit. It would be nice as a fretless one.
I was really looking forward to hearing a review of this bass from you. On paper I had high hopes that it was really something "unique" from Sire..and it is!!! Even the headstock, so ugly from Sire, here looks nice. Great 🦞😍
Dogs and bass are the best things I know. So darn cute, he just wants to cuddle with his favorite person. This bass sounded like one of the most versatile Sires I've heard- I love both this and the mint or surf green metallic. I'f it's not a anchor i may try this one instead of the Yamaha 434 pj. Liked your playing at the end with the somewhat ambient sounds. Peaceful.
Very impressive for a brand to release multiple products and still deliver ( apparently ) a solid offer for each. We're spoiled in the sub 1000 market. Btw, do you plan to make an " every " budget bass recommendation video by the end of this year? The prices and the offers have changed quite a bit this year, this would be si helpful 😊 cheers and thank you for the review!
Looks like an aerodyne. Sounds about as close as you can get to an aerodyne with an active system. About half the price of a new aerodyn. Seems like they've nailed it
Hey 🦞another top notch review. I tried one of these, did think it was a tad heavy . Think the pickups are a tad bright, but as you say could be a good mod platform. perhaps the Sadowsky pre amp would work well in this. Maybe some vintage sounding pickups too, but its a modern instrument ,so would you want vintage pickups Look forward to see what you may do with this. all the best ,Stu
Well first when you just talked about it wasn't something special until you pluged it in and the cahnge came real good sound with a pick and also the slap sound was just superior the dog your effects just make this show better +magic in the air love you 😊❤
On 3 seperate occasions, I ordered a Sire U5. Each time I waited few months and they never came in. I really liked to way the bass sounded in this video.
I’m so glad you’re back! Claw, no claw, whatever, you’re back! Have you ever played the Sire Z series basses? I’m wondering what your thoughts are on those compared to other “budget stingray styled” basses.
Great review as always! I just ordered a 5-string rose gold z3 and can’t wait for your review on that! Maybe we’ll get some potential PUP and preamp mods that’ll enhance that stingray sound? 😜 🙏🏼
The relevance of a sharp upper body edge depends on your build. My sleeve length is 37”. My upper arm juts out so far when I’m playing, that the inside of my forearm has never touched that part of a Fender style bass- and it never will, seated or standing!
Haven’t visited your channel for a while - and initially had the impression that something’s different. And then I suddenly realised you have a new pair of glasses. Congratulations! They’re looking great! (Great review, btw, too.)
Those U7 were not in my radar, but you really made me change my mind. This bass is sick. I am usually not a big fan of PJ as the J pickup is often way too bright but this one sound great by itself. But that will be a purchase for later, they are still backorder in Canada, like the Z3/Z7.

I knew nothing about this Sire model(everyone else is Z3/7 crazy and I don't blame them at all) and you sold me on it.
Fair play to Sire, they've made it really easy to upgrade. There are so many preamp options you could just drop in and it looks like the cavity has oodles of room too.
I SWEAR WHEN I SEE A BASS I THINK IS COOL AND IM LIKE "Dang no reviews i guess" YOU POP OUT A COUPLE HOURS LATER WITH A REVIEW. THE GOAT I SAY THE GOAAAAAAAT 🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🐐🐐🐐🦞🦞🦞
Hey Lobster! Fun video, however the J pickup in the 60's spot gave it a Stingray vibe; But, Stingrays have really useful treble! For the money it's a cool choice.
Hi I bought my sire u7 last week. I left it to modify the nut and put thicker strings on it (130...). I tried it after the modification and it seemed to me that the "A" string did not sound at the same level as the others on the "J" pickup. They told me that it couldn't be. That either all the poles work or none of them. I decided to try it at home. At home I still notice and measure it. More than 6dbs difference. With my band, at high amplification volume, it is even more noticeable. Yesterday I did one last test. With the allen key from the kit I tried giving small touches where the poles are supposed to be. On the "G" and "A" strings, it seems that the magnet on the bottom is not mounted (or plugged in). The difference between down picking and uppicking is very noticeable Have you noticed the same on your bass? Could you check it? If it is a design flaw it would be a great video for you Best regards and thank you very much
It's a split coil pickup, it sounds like half of it isn't working on yours. Take a look at the control cavity on the j pickup wire and contact sire if necessary
Yesterday I took the bass in for a check-up. They answered me this: "We have checked the bass and the active bridge pickup has a problem with the magnets not being positioned correctly internally. We are talking to Marcus Miller to give you a solution as soon as possible." I have to wait to see what they tell me. Thanks for your answer. Keep up the good work.
Are you using an expression pedal with the Microcosm to get those long swelly bits come in? it sounds incredible also, your playing in your new videos is so free and so lovely. really great vibes.
I really like the features and the black U7 looks killer with the pearloid inlays, but the lack of a tummy cut and a forearm contour make this a no-go for me.
Hi Nice review. I'm glad you enjoyed it. As I said, I've been looking forward to it ever since I saw it was coming out. I have a sire m3 and I was thinking of buying the sire m5, partly thanks to your tests. I know the m5 is more versatile, but if you were only going to play rock or metal, would you choose one of them clearly or would you have doubts? Thanks and a big hello from Bilbao (If something sounds strange to you it will be because my English teacher is google translator)
Well; Sire scores on this one. Like the block inlays on the neck. I wish they have a short scale 5 string; rosewood fingerboard, more finishes, and a passive tone like you mentioned. Other than that; great bass! 😌🎶🎸👍🏾
Have you seen the green or black versions? I wonder which colour did you liked the most. I can see the appeal of the glossy sparkly instrument on the stage. Thanks as usual for the detailed review, Lobster!
No no no, your review of the U5 convinced me to get one a while back and I love it but I've been thinking of getting one of these for a while since they were announced.... and now thanks to you I'm gonna be broke! On a serious note would the same Gotoh upgrade fit on this too or isn't it really necessary? Great reviews btw!
What are your thoughts on the Sire pre amp frequencies? If it's like the other Sire pre amps (and it sounds like it is), the bass frequency is set at 20hz, the end of human hearing, and the treble frequency is set at 10k, which is at or above the frequency that many bass amps can produce. These frequencies are so extreme that boosting either frequency gets unusable fast. Boosting bass will easily overload your amp, or if you're playing into a computer, just not be heard at all. Meanwhile boosting the treble control will quickly give you a tingly feeling in your teeth. On the other hand, extreme frequencies are great for cutting, and you basically have a HPF/LPF built into your bass.
The 10k treble is pretty common for most other preamps, but 20k is def low. I am not sure if this one targets those, the treble def sounds like it but the bass control was very usable. I may do an EMG mod here as their two band has selectable EQ curves on the PCB, may explore those in more detail as I haven't before.
Hey if you get an opportunity to to see if the humbucker in the Z series basses is wired in series or parallel I'd love to see that. The sound samples I've herd make me think parallel. Very excited for the upcoming content 🎉
If Sire needs to update anything, it's the MARCUS MILLER logo in the most default font possible. Feels like no effort was put into its design. They easily could stylize the font with something a little more fitting other than what looks like default Arial font :( Had to cover that logo on my V5 with a sticker because it is just so ugly. I hate having to cover MM's name, but it just looks horrible
Until you started playing it, I may not have given it a chance. The body shape is great, but I'd like to try it in person before giving it a rating of the claw variety.
Hi 🦞 more I listen the more I like it. Out of curiosity, what does yours weigh? I tried one and was a little heavy. More than the Z7 I have If if could get one about 8.5lbs or under would be great. All the best my friend. Stu
Something about this bass absolutely kills it for fingerstyle funk. The other playing styles sounded thin. Can't wait for their "Fodera" to come out, seems it keeps getting delayed...
Technically the neck sits a bit more inward because it's longer at 22 frets vs a standard jazz. The reach is the same though when played on a strap as the upper horn area is the same. The lower horn was pushed back slightly for upper fret access I think
To the very few macho Camacho keyboard warriors out there. I bet it feels nice to have a life hiding behind the so called anonymity of the internet. I am glad to see that you have a purpose in life that helps you get up in the mornings. In case you didn't realize this is a video review for a musical instrument and the comment section is for opinions about the review not about a person you (and almost all of us watching) know NOTHING about or should care and their personal life. Assuming you are males someone here has the biggest kahunas and it ain't you. Go bake a cake or create content putting yourself out there and lets see how much of true warrior you are. After you do so please pin the link to your content in this section so we can all admire your creativity cause what you are showcasing here is NOT cutting it...
I have to know for my own curiosity. Do you buy all the basses that you review and keep them? Do you buy and review then sell some? Are they loaned/sent for review? Where do you keep all of them? Lmao I’m slowly building my collection and I’m starting to wonder “where am I going to put all of these if I keep this up?” I own many other instruments, so space is limited. But being Autistic with instruments and music being my “special interest”, It’s an addiction that’s hard to tame.

Maybe save the claw rating for head-to-head comparisons or before-and-after mods. The rating more so than the physical claw.

@@ArchieOnEarth That's a good point, the rating doesn't have to be coupled to the physical claw. :)

@@LowEndLobster Would love to see that video if you make it. Love your channel!
Love it. Sire is still kiling it.
How about the new Squier Affinity 6-string bass? It's called a Bass VI despite not being a bass VI
Mine comes Tuesday ;)
Hey if you get an opportunity to to see if the humbucker in the Z series basses is wired in series or parallel I'd love to see that. The sound samples I've herd make me think parallel. Very excited for the upcoming content 🎉
Both the Z3 and Z7's humbucker are wired in parallel.
Puppy loves the U7 too!!!!!
Great sound. Worth the money
If Sire needs to update anything, it's the MARCUS MILLER logo in the most default font possible. Feels like no effort was put into its design. They easily could stylize the font with something a little more fitting other than what looks like default Arial font :(
Had to cover that logo on my V5 with a sticker because it is just so ugly. I hate having to cover MM's name, but it just looks horrible
Until you started playing it, I may not have given it a chance. The body shape is great, but I'd like to try it in person before giving it a rating of the claw variety.
Your outfit is so cute! I feel like this bass really goes with you as a person if that makes sense
Thank you!
love these new sires
Hi 🦞 more I listen the more I like it.
Out of curiosity, what does yours weigh?
I tried one and was a little heavy. More than the Z7 I have
If if could get one about 8.5lbs or under would be great.
All the best my friend. Stu
Something about this bass absolutely kills it for fingerstyle funk. The other playing styles sounded thin.
Can't wait for their "Fodera" to come out, seems it keeps getting delayed...
Would you say the neck sits closer into the body? It looks like less of a reach compared to a regular jazz bass?
Technically the neck sits a bit more inward because it's longer at 22 frets vs a standard jazz. The reach is the same though when played on a strap as the upper horn area is the same. The lower horn was pushed back slightly for upper fret access I think
When choosing between the Sire U7 and the P7, which one is better to go for?
They're very different. I would say the p7 is more well rounded
@ Here’s the translation:
Which one do you think is better to take as a first bass? I really like the design of a completely black instrument.
ooooo i love the look of this! thanks for the video as always lobster!
Different host?
Sire is absolutely killing it with these new models.
I give my Z7 a 🦞🦞🦞🦞.
Waiting on a review for the Sire Z SERIES!!! Maybe a fretless version??? (I haven't seen a fretless Z bass reviewed yet)
You need to do MM Caprice review in the near future🙏😊
I have to know for my own curiosity. Do you buy all the basses that you review and keep them? Do you buy and review then sell some? Are they loaned/sent for review? Where do you keep all of them? Lmao
I’m slowly building my collection and I’m starting to wonder “where am I going to put all of these if I keep this up?” I own many other instruments, so space is limited. But being Autistic with instruments and music being my “special interest”, It’s an addiction that’s hard to tame.
All of the above! Most are purchased, some are loaned from folks, some are loaned from companies. I have barely enough space lol
@@LowEndLobster Right on lol anyway, glad to see you uploading regularly again, I thought you quit YT at a point
These Sires don't seem too bad. I wonder how the v2 M2 5s sounds compared to similarly priced Ibanez basses.
Hey Lobster! What is the "Microcasm" I must have that pedal effect! What? Where? Must have!
Hologram Electronics Microcosm
It certainly has a modern classic sound which isn’t a contradiction …
I own the U5. Might be time for me to get it's big brother.
Sire U7 or v5? I think the u7 sounded better slapped oddly enough
I really like the u7 a lot
Can you play it just in passive mode without batteries?
Yes, you will have no tone controls though just volume and blend
@@LowEndLobster Perfect! THX!
Honestly, between you and Jonny giggling about the word "knob" I'm starting to suspect bass reviewers are not 100% serious.
We are a very serious people ;P
@@LowEndLobster seriously though, the new videos seem to be going well. Hope you're having fun making them.
I enjoyed the chords. That is all.
