Gday Andy...I always enjoy your videos...I ordered and paid in full for my JB 1955 les paul a couple of weeks ago...Im quite excited about this gutar...eta is sometime in November here in Australia...that was all the info the seller could give me. Watched a video with Joe talking about this guitar and other signature models Epiphone have done with him... he said that each model is 1500 units only...I think that this latest one probably wont be around long enough for there to be any price discounting. My seller has a sold out sign on this guitar on their website...the allocation they were given all sold out before the guitars have even landed here...way before it seems and I apparently got the last one that they have coming..
Play with the screws on the pickups as raising them can add a bit more clarity vs all screws down. I learned this by playing with the screws on Filtertrons, there's a good chance you find the tone you are looking for this way. The only pickups you can not do that with are ones with slugs.
Hi Andy, I just wanted to thank you for your channel! You have helped me in making up my mind regarding the Katana Artist Gen 3 and GA FC EX controller! I'll be revisiting your videos on the GA FC EX more in the future since mine arrived today (along with the Gen 3 Artist 😁) and you are correct that the information provided is lacking and needs more in-depth explaining. So, thanks again for helping me make up my mind on my purchase! 😁🤘🎸
I did get the JB Epip les Paul. Had to do a small setup but playable outta the case. The P90’ are surprisingly nice sounding. Bark when you need them and clean when you roll the volume down. The Neck is my favorite with a woman tone that kills. Sustain and sings. I can’t put it down. Get one you won’t be sorry. The neck is great once you get use to the girth adds to the tone. 🤙🏻
I have a 7 string Ibanez Q and absolutely love it! Extremely versatile sounds and plays very smoothly. I wasn’t sure at first, but now thoroughly appreciate the slanted, ergonomic frets. QX527-PB I did have to wax pot the pickups. They were crazy microphonic. I think they do a FANTASTIC job with the strat/single coil sounds, but can be a bit “fizzy” with high gain, to my ears.
Dear Andy, just promise me something: never change the Andy's Pick of the Week transition. That mad hysterical music is just too fun and it's my favourite part of your edition chops!
The laurel fretboards on these higher end epiphones are killing me. It's the one thing holding me back from considering one. I've seen people say they're trying to get through their Laurel stock so they can start using Rosewood but I do think they should start introducing it to their higher end models because they are sort of losing face to Fender at the moment with the release of Player II series. They should lower prices of the mid/low end epiphones and use the laurel on those. I don't have a huge problem with Laurel, only when it's on a £800+ guitar.
I really don’t think it matters. I have a single cut p-90 Hagstrom and I played it for years without realising the fretboard isn’t even made out of wood. Laurel fretboards used to be a premium feature.
@@tonedowne I'd settle for a darkened laurel fretboard. Some effort other than slapping on a pale, dry board onto a guitar that traditionally had rosewood. Some laurel fretboards are so pale that they can be even lighter than a roasted maple board or about the same. We'll have to wait and see how popular the Fender Player II series turns out to be with their rolled rosewood boards @$800. And it is possible to get dark laurel because I've seen some squier sonic strats that had very dark boards whilst only being about 150gbp.
It's funny how opinions change. I remember when rosewood was humdrum for decades. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Special with the Indian Laurel and it is pretty much the same as rosewood. It's not a big difference, not say the difference between rosewood vs ebony. One day people will be losing their shit when some famous guitar player says how much better the Indian Laurel fretboard is. Guitar players are that fickle. I've seen this happen many times in 30 years of playing. Play the guitar and decide once you put your hands on it.😉👍✨
@@gringogreen4719 You seem to not be reading my comments. Indian Laurel is fine. However, when it's put on premium guitars and looks nearly as pale as a roasted maple neck (which I prefer) then it seems like the manufacturer is cheaping out. Again, Fender (amongst other, cheaper brands) offer rolled-edged Rosewood fretboards on their cheapest line. Sire offer rolled rosewood fretboards for $399 on the S3. If Epiphone made an effort to darken or find darker laurel wood samples then no one would care. It's the fact that it's being put on $1000+ guitars is what is annoying quite a lot of potential customers.
@@chaz__ Ahh gotcha. My Les Paul Special is the only guitar that I have with Indian Laurel and it's pretty dark chocolatey. I have Xaviere guitars with rosewood that look like milk chocolate so I understand your concern. The only times I feel like an Epiphone is worth more than a grand is either a US made vintage guitar or the Epiphone Elitest guitars made in Japan. My Epiphones that I have bought have been $350 new (Les Paul Special) or used (1990s Sheraton II) or less than that. Epiphones are great guitars but not really $1k great 🤔
The real question is, why does Gibson and Epiphone NOT always use "50s wiring"? That allows for independent volume controls in the middle position, as opposed to the modern wiring where zeroing out one volume cuts out both pickups.
Because modern wiring is slightly easier (i.e. less expensive) to manufacture. Both Volume and Tone pots have the same lug bent backwards. However, what you describe in the middle pickup position is not achievable with 50s wiring, it's done by decoupling the Volume pots. Premier Guitar has a guide on how to do that.
@@ErebosGR ah, that writing the volume pots backwards trick was always called 50s writing in stuff In read… guess who ever wrote that was naming it wrong.

I'm not a huge fan of offset style guitars (I like them, just not as much as the pointy guitars), but that D'Angelico looks sexy. I would definitely like to own that.
