    after 30 years of playing golf I found these videos in May and have changed my entire swing. Through practice and telling myself the old way wasn't working any longer.....I have become a believer. I am playing some of the best golf I ever had in a short couple of months of trying the drills from Saguto golf. The weight on the front side is the hardest to get used to but it does work and the flatter golf swing stopped me from chunking my irons. I wish I would have known this in my earlier days.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

      I'm sorry you had to wait, Julian, since this video has been out for quite some time! It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack. This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
      Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
      2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft length of the driver encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
      3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )
      Beyond that, the online school will provide the tools you need to start mashing the driver. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews The school's intuitive curriculum greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, plus there’s so much additional guided instruction courses and content on the many other aspects of the game. Tom, love your channel and your approach. Question/comment: My dominant hand is my right but I play golf left handed which I think is pretty common in Canada since so many of us play hockey. I write with my right hand, throw a ball with my left hand, throw a Frisbee with my right hand, play tennis with my right hand and swing a baseball bat and hockey stick left handed. (I know...I'm a freakoid.) Playing golf has always felt very natural as a leftie. Your approach seems very handedness related in that you say (to right handed golfers) use the right hand to power the downswing whereas my swing feeling is more of a balance of two feelings: the feeling of throwing a Frisbee with my target side hand/arm coupled with the feeling of skipping a stone with my trail side hand/arm. Is that weird?

      I'm very glad to know that you are enjoying my lesson content, Thomas!!
      Golf is indeed a very difficult sport. But if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing and/or exceptional hand-eye coordination, then we can achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. So we put in the time and effort on the front end to build a repeatable swing, and then we can enjoy low maintenance, powerful, predictable, body-friendly ball striking bliss for the rest of our lives!
      By the way, have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Additionally, you'll find all my short game content (putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play), diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and so much more there. I've watched several of your videos featuring the driver swing now and the basic swing concept and it all makes sense. One question that kind of came to mind after this video is what are your swings thoughts or processes when you have a tee shot that you might want to "put that little extra into it"? Maybe a drive where you want to try and carry a bunker or carry a slope for extra distance. I suppose it could be a question for any shot where you perhaps want to give it a little extra but whatever the situation what are your thoughts when you want to maybe go after one a little more than usual?

      Hi Ken,
      I'm glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you!
      Whenever reaching for more we need to be careful to not let things get out of sequence, otherwise our efforts will produce diminishing returns. So I would first suggest being especially cognizant of your tempo to ensure that the "hit" instinct doesn't take over, and then I would focus on going harder with the proper lower body action - for example, as taught in this video: ruclips.net/video/I5XYgKopTb4/видео.html
      This is all along the lines of what Mr. Hogan meant when he famously quipped that if he started the downswing properly with the lower body he wished he'd had three right hands to power the strike. Yes - it’s essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. Awesome!! Welcome aboard!!
      I assume you're referring to the online school, and if so here's some preliminary advice to help you get off to a good start:
      1) Regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Chapter 1 of the Golf Swing Simplified program (GSS) and Part I of Get Out & Go Play (GOGP) both address this.
      2a) GSS: One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will suggest that students park themselves on Chapter 2 of the GSS course for an extended period of time after locking down Chapter 1's foundational elements. Chapter 2 reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then commit yourself to that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use this partially abbreviated swing on the course and play quite well with it as it will provide plenty of distance. (It actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators.) Once you've got that down, you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing!
      2b) GOGP: This quick-start program is exactly as it sounds - it is designed to fast-track you out onto the course so you can have fun - and success - playing as you learn! Should you choose this path, everything in #1 above still applies, and as implied above in 2a you will still want to work through it sequentially and gradually, mastering each lesson before moving ahead to the next one. In this program, Drill #5 - The Flying Wedge is the one you'll want to park yourself on and nail down.
      3) Also, as you progress always keep in mind the V1 Swing Video Analysis, an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/lessons
      4) Finally, please migrate over to the SagutoGolf Community Forum - which is included in your online school enrollment - and begin engaging with your fellow members. It only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access and participate in the great dialogue that we are having on a variety of topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I really think you’ll enjoy it!
      I look forward to assisting you through the school’s structured lessons and drills towards building a consistent, low maintenance, powerful, body-friendly swing that will bring your enjoyment of this great game to a new level!
      Tom

    So, where did you get the equations? The one that is circled with the dotted line is the Schrodinger equation. I think another one is a Fourier transform. By the way, I love your golf tips. I tried it out on one of my wedges and hit it 15 yards further. Need to work on the driver.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 года назад +1

      LOL - I'll just stick with the golf stuff, Jeffrey!...
      Nice job incorporating the tips into your swing. With regard to the driver, it’s the same swing with every club in your bag. Just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. Also, the progressively widening stance as we move through the longer clubs necessitates that the hips travel a greater distance laterally in the downswing, because if the hips stop their lateral slide towards the target prior to impact their rotation takes over, changing the low point and rerouting the club across the ball, thereby causing an out-to-in glancing blow and producing a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. It is oftentimes the reason some golfers will experience early success with the short irons but struggle a bit with the longer clubs.
      If you'd really like to own this swing through your entire bag, please consider enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school as it is one of the best golf instruction values out there. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only learning system for the full swing and much more. Hi Tom, really enjoy your videos. They make so much sense. I've been playing for many decades and have struggled between from being brilliant to crappy. Inconsistency is a real problem with me. Lucky for me, I have adopted your teaching techniques and am ready to go once we get past this COVID-19 isolation headache. One question regarding this video with respect to not having to take the club back all the way in order to generate effortless power. I agree that a compact swing has less moving parts, and therefore should prevent the chopping and off plane issues. If you look at the 4:46 minute mark of the video (in 0.25 speed) and freeze the frame, you will see that your hands are in the position you teach, but the head of the club is past parallel. Can you help me understand this relationship? Are we to take the club back that far to produce the power and distance we all chase after? Thanks

However, I still cross the wires and chunk an snowman on the card, but who cares I can dial it in; having a slew of pars on the card and countless golf shots is a new dawn. Everything is coming together, thank you Tommy, you have me floating on lavender wings; which is nice.....baby...!!! You're making the game too dam easy....hee hee....and, to think just a short time ago, I thought moving all over the place, and chopping was the secret of consistent strikes...thanks for saving me and my woeful hacking. You call it a short backswing but when i put your swing on pause, at the top i see you are at parallel. So it's not an overswing, but not sure it constitutes a 'short' swing when you reach parallel. That's considered a full swing. You just had quick tempo on the transition and downswing.

Meanwhile, I weigh 145, use 8.5, short backswing, try to swing down like you suggest, and out drive most of my friends. So many people are concerned about “carry”, but they don’t realize that most amateur courses have plenty of straight enough holes and in the dead of summer in the south that thing will roll with how dry these courses get. I’m definitely planning on making the trip from Atlanta to get my swing cleaned up once we’re able to

      Hi Sean,
      The Stack & Tilt swing is a very body-friendly method. For me this is supported by my personal experience as a player and furthered by the fact that the majority of my students are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - who are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.

    I'm not interested in hitting my drives a million yards. I'm a senior and would be happy with 300 yards off the tee. ;) Actually this does look Hogan-like. My problem when trying this is I hook the crap out of it.
    Edit: I just tried this on the course and sure enough....it did help. I'm bad about trying to release the club on the downswing and therefore closed the club head too much causing a pull hook. But when getting in position on the backswing as you described and just fire through with my body then I hit nice baby draws. Going to have to stay with this and work on it more.

      Awesome, Marty! Pretty awesome that you can self diagnose and fix your problem that quickly.

      @@SagutoGolf Been playing golf a long time so know a lot of my faults.....just not good at correcting them. Just got through watching a few of your videos and you do a good job of instructing in very simple terms. Keep the videos coming.
