Just ordered mine tom for a christmas present for me hahaha great video as always and thanks for the code for discount keep up the great teachings👍🏌♂️⛳️
I love this. This is exactly what Danny Maude is teaching after his lesson with Pete Cowen. Tom and Danny, hands down the best instructors on the planet and RUclips.
Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed this lesson and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! Tom PS: By the way, since my channel's content is connecting well with you, I think you will really like my FREE mini course - “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” - where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. When i found Danny, i got rid of every other instructor. Then when he went to Pete Cowen i thought "S'hit whats this and got worried i have 2 learn something totaly new and i was in nomans land"..Than i stumbled across Tom and got stuck with it. 2 months later i play my best golf. And when i went back 2 check out Danny, it all fits 2gether now after he went to Cowen🙂 So ye, These 2 lads are my go 2 instructors✌
After 4 weeks of working on this without hitting balls, I went to driving range today. WOW!!! It definitely feels different than my old swing and the results are great. It will take more practice, but it has added 10 yds to my irons and I’m just getting started. The amazing thing is I know right away if I do not turn shoulders. Thanks Tom. Really looking forward to 2024 and lowering my handicap.
That's fabulous, Bob!! 💪💪 I'm very glad to know that this lesson performed well for you; excellent job properly and incrementally building it into your swing. Thanks so much for sharing your ball striking improvement, keep up the great work, and have a happy, healthy, birdie-filled 2024!! @SagutoGolf Hi Tom. Here in Pa it's going to be mid 50's this weekend. Going to play my first round with this new preset wrist and shoulder swing. Just ordered my Precision Impact Trainer today. This will help to reinforce that muscle memory. Also, my wife wants to learn golf, so I figure why not start with the trainer and swing.
Tom-I have been following your videos for some time now, and want to sincerely compliment your raising all levels of your wonderfully instructive lessons. I certainly appreciate your subtle zannines from time to time, appropriate and often hilarious, but superceded by the expertise of your clear presentations. Most importantly, you have helped my understanding of golf, and improved my game! Thank you!
I sincerely appreciate your kind words regarding my instruction content, Jeff, and I'm very glad to know that my "lesson and a show" teaching style is resonating with you!! Excellent session Tom with your student! This is the move I've been working with for a while now and I am seeing results! I have been trying to keep the right arm folded and the right wrist bent back until after impact when they are both released! I have also been using the uncocking of the left wrist at impact as an additional benefit! Well Done Tom! This video has been a great reminder of how to do it properly!
Exactly what Pete Cowen teaches and it has changed my golf game. Took me awhile but stuck with what you're teaching and like you said the turning of the hips, weight shift is a result of just turning that rightv shoulder into a beautiful finish. My consistency, ball striking , that sound, that divot, drives are more straight.. what you have been teaching everyone should continue to work it. Main thing is you have to get those wrists set and unload that shoulder.. even with pitch shots.. my last round I was on the green putting for 10 pars and 3 birdies on the par 3s.. never even came close to doing that before. Thank you for the videos.
That's outstanding, Tom!! I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Thanks so much for your support in sharing your improvement, and keep up the fantastic work!! 💪💪 Tom PS: By the way, since my channel's content is performing well for you, I think you will also benefit from my FREE mini course - “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” - where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. Thanks Steve - I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice! By the way, there are no rabbit holes here - only the truths of geometry and physics in which this powerful, low-maintenance, body-friendly swing system is rooter. Long time watcher but I've been taking a different path to yours in regards of developing my game......no more. I did this today for the first time and shot 1 over and it felt easy. I'm at a 6 handicap but I was one lip out and one left an inch short of being 1 under. All I did was this drill in my front room for about 10mins, took it to the course today and booooom. Thanks mate and I'll now be obsessively re watching your back catalogue over the next 2 week's! 😂😂😂
LOL! Ah yes, Martin... The dark side of golf. Evil swing sorcery. The cult that is quietly, surreptitiously gathering lost swings from the vast abyss "conventional" instruction and leading them to the way and the truth of a method rooted in the unchanging principles of physics and geometry. Creating heinously horrifying creatures of repeatability, predictable ball flight, and effortless power. Like a hideous and unstoppable amoeba slowly yet steadily consuming the golfing globe. Resistance is futile; you will be assimilated. Mwahahaha.....Mwahahahaha..... 😎 That's *AWESOME!!* I'm very glad to know that this lesson performed well for you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!! Now, , if you'd *_really_* like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. I just started using the Precision Impact yesterday. All I can say is: “OMG”! I couldn’t believe how the ball exploded off the club face! Just unreal!! I was in a golf clinic where we start on the range, then play about nine holes. I decided to wear it during play, and my shots were remarkable. My fear was, what happens when I take it off and play? I did just that on a later hole, and my fears became real. I “chunked” 3 shots in a row! 😢 I’ll try your range drill, Tom. I need to develop the muscle memory!
Awesome stuff, David - that is what crispy compression feels like! And "fear" not - the Precision Impact can behave as an effective "crutch" initially, but through continued proper use you you are going to ingrain the feels and build them into your swing. Thanks for sharing your success with this great device, and keep up the fantastic work!! Tom, thank you for taking the time to reply. I love your videos and am a serial flipper. I just got my precision impact and am going to get started right now. Keep up what you’re doing, I think your approach and content is top notch! Big fan!
My pleasure, Adrian, and I appreciate your kind words and support! The Precision Impact will certainly help you to overcome that chronic flipping habit and crisp up your ball striking, so have fun out there putting it to work for you! Tom
Thanks, Tom. I have always felt that a dominant right shoulder turn on the downswing caused an out to in swing path (slice/pull). But your description showed me I was actually dropping the right shoulder with almost no turn in my left shoulder and not getting my chest moving toward the target (until too late). This along with maintaining the “cupped” right wrist should make a huge difference in my results. Thanks again!
Fantastic!! I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I hope your new understanding of the proper shoulder action performs well when you put it into practice! Thanks for your message! Tom
Great lesson Tom. I have saved this and will watch it when I start working on my game again in February when I head out to Palm Springs (I live in Ottawa , Canada, so no more golf for a while here!). This has pulled together everything I’ve been working on this season after watching many of your videos this year. Focussing on the right wrist angle and tucking in the right arm has been a game changer for me this season! Thanks so much for posting all of this great content!
Sounds good! I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing this past season and putting it into play!! By the way, this recent video includes a drill you can practice indoors during the off-season: ruclips.net/video/-YQdrbcm8Uc/видео.html Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and stay warm up there!! Outstanding! I'm very glad to learn of your "actual" improvement, Greg. Thanks for sharing your ball striking success with this wrist angle lesson and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom
What a game changing tip. Just been out for a round after 3 weeks out, and shot 7 under my handicap (12). Many thanks Tom, just wish I'd seen this video when it first came out ! Ah well, better late than never.

Ha, Professor Saguto has come up once again with a classic & hilarious comment: "...and the student lays down an animal pelt size divot..." I definitely had to clean up my coffee spill after laughing so hard on his comment. Another great & constructive video!
LOL! I'm glad to learn that you are enjoying my "lesson and a show" instruction style! Great video, Tom! Thanks! I have tried to keep the right wrist angle forever at and even after impact. I lean back and shank it! I have 2 of Mike's precision impact devices. They work great and he leaves his phone# when you purchase his device. He's a great guy and loves to help you take your golf to the next level!
Thanks Greg - I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson video, and hopefully it helps you to overcome those issues. And yes - Mike is a genuinely great guy!! Tom
Great video on impact! I think the one thing that stands out the most for me is what was not impacted at all throughout the video, the wall or the picture. Off the charts spatial awareness.

I’ve watched a lot of golf yt videos and this dudes stuff makes the most sense. And it’s not some sketchy moe Norman type advice (he’s still one of the great ball strikers ever just very unconventional) this guys swing looks just like anyone else who’s good but he breaks it down way simpler and even shows how the pros are doing some of the things they say not to do😂.
LOL! Thanks - I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction! And yes - sadly, such swing sorcery from this dark underworld rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Tom

To some extent it is, Monty, though as you know I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it! Tom
It’s like the power glove on, great video. I always was taught to get my left shoulder under my chin on back swing but turning my right up underneath coming down really helps clear the hips naturally and square up the club face. Great stuff!

I love your golf instructions you are truly brilliant my problem is that at 66 years of age and now retired I didn't play for over 41 years and I have a handicap of 14 but I love playing on my own and because of you I play par golf in Lanzarote but when I play in competition I become a nervous wreck and I can't relax so I was wondering if you could advise how we can play without nerves Tom your instructions are brilliant take care
I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you, David; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!! With regard to playing in competition, we're all wired differently from a mental/psychological perspective, so it's rather difficult to give a generalized answer to your question. What I can tell you is that it is part of the process, and as your practice and solo playing performance becomes more and more consistent, then it's just a function of time in terms of when/how that will translate itself to the pressures and challenges of competitive play. As confidence in your swing grows you should find more and more that you are playing "golf" instead of "golf swing" on the course, at which point your mechanical thoughts will be reduced to one or two at the most, and you will be nearly entirely focused on your target and not your swing. For example, when Jack Nicklaus faced a pressure shot he said that his only thought was to be sure he made a full shoulder turn. An excellent book that may help you with this is "Fearless Golf: Conquering the Mental Game" by Dr. Gio Valiante. Another book that I like is "Play Your Best Golf Now" by Lynn Marriott & Pia Nilsson. By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Looks like a great aid.... Per your recommendation I have the hackmotion... is the precision impact dealing with same issue... Do you like the precision impact better or how would you differentiate the two products? Thank you
Both are excellent training aids, Tim. As you know, the HackMotion provides audible and visible feedback on the lead wrist condition (which, of course, also gives us a clue as to how the trail wrist is responding). The Precision Impact Trainer sets the trail wrist in the proper position and thereby allows us to: 1) ingrain the feel for retaining that condition during the motion and through impact, and 2) enables us to "set it and forget it" so we can then confidently build in the desired feel for controlling the swing with the big muscles as opposed to micromanaging the arms, hands, and wrists. Thanks for your message! Tom
thanks so much for the video,I have always had trouble keeping the right wrist back. I was always a flipper for many years. this is golden. Can't wait to start working on this. I believe you are saying the big secret is in the right shoulder. Could you please tell me if I am right?
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Jerry, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice! There's really no "big secret" here, LOL! The trail shoulder may be a key for you, whereas it may not be for someone else. This is why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. This is great!! Tom, if you see this comment. This one handed feel looks amazing on camera, and I can do it from the half swing position. What’s the best way to get this feel into the full swing? I’m still flippy at impact (full swing) but awesome in the drill
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Carlos, and nice job so far with the one-handed and half swing drills! If you've been a long-time "flipper", then it certainly can take some time. Invariably - with the exception of those golfers who actively try to manufacture some type of handsy action through the zone due to misguided or misunderstood "advice" - the flip is a compensatory move in reaction to an issue that occurred somewhere upstream in the motion. Video is most helpful tool in the reverse engineering process needed to identify the true culprit. Also, the Precision Impact that I demonstrated in this video is an excellent training aid that will help you to neutralize the cause and overcome this issue. I highly recommend it. Thanks George - I'm very glad to know that this lesson video resonated with you! Yes - this swing key - and the Precision Impact - also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder/armpit), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - _and it should feel level_ - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice have caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. I think the cushions on it were not glued on improperly and hinder the movements. I did reach out to them but wasn’t able to get any response. 😔
Another great video, Tom … one of your best 👍🏻 (and that’s saying something) I know you like gadgets (golf training aids)… I used a training aid years ago called “Greg Norman’s SECRET” (I still have it) It’s basically a piece of plastic that you attach to your right wrist (Velcro’d to your wrist and your index finger) that keeps your right wrist at that angle throughout the swing. It really worked! I hit the crispiest shots off my life (“like KFC”) 😂 The problem with it was, it LOCKED your wrist In that angle throughout the swing (you can’t RELEASE) But, it DID keep that angle at IMPACT (so you can feel what it’s like) The challenge is … How & when to SET that angle in your wrist on the backswing, and how and when to release (just after impact). That’s the secret sauce. Another great video. Clear, concise and easy to understand. Keep up the good work 👊🏻
Thanks Mike - I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you!! Yes - I am familiar with "The Secret" training aid from yesteryear. While there are some conceptual similarities, I consider the Precision Impact Trainer to be a far superior aid for grooving that pure crispy impact condition. As demonstrated in the video, the angle is primarily set at address, although you may have heard the additional "click" during my backswing that notched up the angle a tad more (kinda like cranking up the heat in the extra-crispy deep fryer 😎). As for that "release" you referred to, it should not be a contrived or manufactured action anyway, so it will occur naturally when you take the device off. Tom
It will, Richard, because it is going to help you keep your lag by retaining the angle in your trail wrist. That in and of itself will aid in shallowing your path and will also combat those casting tendencies. Yes - this swing key (and the featured training aid) also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. @SagutoGolf A follow up question. The wrist angle changes make very good sense for irons but does it make sense for a driver? I haven't been able to think this through and experiment. I am with my fairway woods but I would assume it also makes sense for them.
Thanks!! By the way, the Precision Impact that I demonstrated in this recent episode is an excellent training aid that will help you to quickly crispy up your ball striking. I highly recommend it. Ah yes... The dark side of golf. Evil swing sorcery. The cult that is quietly, surreptitiously gathering lost swings from the vast purgatorial abyss of failed "conventional" instruction and leading them to the way and the truth of a method rooted in the unchanging principles of physics and geometry. 😎 Looking forward to seeing you in the school! Tom

well, i would certainly agree that bringing the wrist joint into play when the club is max left, in the backswing, is just the ticket; and, as you say, the shoulders have to keep turning thru, in the downswing; or, the club will take over when it moves outside the position of the hands. when the club is max left in the downswing the right clavicle is fully loaded; and, in a position to turn thru. so, this gives the shoulders the opportunity to have a head start on the club; and, prevent the club from taking over when it moves outside the position of the hands. but, it is the "inside muscles" in the left side of the right forearm that fully load the clavicle. when the muscles in the left side of the forearm are fully activated, in the start of the downswing, it activates the muscles around the clavicle; and, directs force into the hand which directs force into the handle of the club. this levers the shaft into its max left position in the start of the downswing. and, this process increases the arc of the right hand slighty, which, of course ensures that the palm is pressing forwards.
Thanks Marcel! This swing key and the Precision Impact training aid also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. This is awesome, Tom! Made a huge difference for me! That said, I’m having trouble with this at full speed. 9 o’clock backswings are perfect; however, I’m only at about 80% of my average distance with that approach. Should I aim to swing at only 80% speed and manage distance accordingly, or is there a will continued practice eventually help at speed too?
Thanks - I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you! I wouldn't be so concerned about distance at this juncture. Typically, once this swing is running properly on autopilot golfers experience significant increases in length. This probably represents a significant change for you. You are relatively early in the process and it takes time to ingrain our "feels" and free ourselves from mechanical thoughts. When you develop sufficient confidence in the motion that you are comfortable "giving up control", you'll be able to just trust it and let it fly. At that point you should be seeing your yardages increase through the bag. Keep up the great work! Tom PS: Would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? Hi Tom great video when do I release the wedge of the right hand past the left thigh when the arms begin to straighten or when they are straightening in the follow-through let me know thanks for your help Jack
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Jack. The majority of amateur golfers execute some type of flipping or rolling action through the zone, usually as a compensatory move due to a flaw somewhere upstream in the motion, although some erroneously believe through misguided "instruction" that they need to manufacture such an action. Anyway, my preference is that you work on holding the "wedge" through impact to optimize your impact condition, and as you ingrain this into your swing the hands will behave as they should without any consciously contrived effort. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option for you would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Happy New Year! Tom
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Randy!! This is about presetting that trail wrist condition and then maintaining it through impact. That does not necessarily mean your swing must be "dominated" by the trail hand. As I spoke about in the video, if we keep that "wedge" (angle) between the back of the trail hand and the forearm intact, then we can simply allow the shoulders to drive the motion. By the way, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. @@SagutoGolfgreat instruction.. Just a question, will you lose club head speed not firing wrists thro at impact.. 20 year habit for me and inconsistent
My miss is left it starts pretty straight or sometimes we'll start left but overdraws,..alot. I video my swing and I release the angle with my wrists before I get to the delivery position. I can't get the club going up my right forearm coming down to left arm parallel hence the reason for my left miss. The only good thing is I do get the club on plane in the downswing. And there's nothing on RUclips that really talks about this. So thanks for the video

In your experience does the PI need to be very tight? I’m having issues with it slipping after impact unless I have it exceptionally tight. Also, I think it may be best for you to lay eyes on my swing. Do you do remote lessons via video or chat etc that I can access through your website?
It ought not have to be uncomfortably tight, Adrian, but it also shouldn't be swimming around on you. I had phased out private lessons (both in-person and virtual) awhile back so I could dedicate more time to my online school. I've not yet set a specific date for when I will resume them (it should be fairly soon), but when I do the virtual lessons will be reserved exclusively for my online school members. In-person lessons at my South Carolina location will be open to members and non-members. If you are in my online school please send me a message through the "chat" feature and I will add you to my list to be notified when slots open up. Hey Tom, I went out and purchased the precisionimpact trainer, I want you to know their training on how to use this thing seems different than how you are using it. They are showing a lot of wrist hinge at the Beginning of the back swing, so I am assuming that what you are teaching while using their training aid, is that what they explain in their instruction video is “ quiet hands “ where there is no clicking before your backswing, correct me if I’m wrong, but I want to make sure that there’s no confusion here, and we’re not steering away from the way that you want us to train our muscle memory. Maybe you can do a separate video on how this training aid should we used with your type of swing? Thank you
I'm sure I'll be featuring the Precision Impact is future content. In the meantime, know that if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. @@SagutoGolf thank you, looking forward to that new video, I do belong to the Saguto golf system, it’s been incredible on ball striking for me, now that you clarified basically how to incorporate the training aid, I will make sure I am all locked in at setup and not worry about flexing my wrist right before the take away, I have been very happy with what you have taught me and now using this training aid makes perfect sense. The two are absolutely not mutually exclusive, Adrian. I simply "allow" the wrist hinge to happen without forcing anything. Went to the range today and tried keeping it ultra simple focusing on the first 3 steps... I was DRILLING the frickin' ball. It was smooth - consistent - easy to replicate. It took all my over-thinking completely out of it. Then I thought "No way this is true.. i'll try it on my 3 wood which is the hardest club for me to hit... " yep that too was rifling down the fairway.

Hello Tom: Does all of this apply to swinging the driver and fairway woods? I have been watching your videos for months and I have greatly improved my iron play. I have been able to strike my irons like never before but I still struggle to hit driver consistently.
I'm very glad to learn of your ball striking improvement with the irons, Ryan - nice job!! It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. Extension of that bent trail wrist would equate to a flip at impact, Ralph, and we don't want that to occur if we desire a crispy compressed outcome. Ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom Saguto, PGA
Mr. Miagi, this is another gem! I also have an issue of going over the top and flipping, which is bad because this guy Johnny has been out driving me by 50+ yards in front of everyone. I had a thought of a new move but don’t even want to try it without your blessing. What if at the top of my backswing I pull hard with my left hand well, aiming the butt of the club at the ball and then straightening out the left hand at the ball. It seems I wouldn’t have to think about maintaining my right wrist angle, as it would just stay in the same place as it was at the top. Id love your thoughts sensei.

@@SagutoGolf No, but I will enroll for sure. I do want to thank you so very much for your videos. You are hands down the best teacher there is and believe me I’m an expert in that field. I watched so many different videos from different trainers that my swing eventually looked like a cowboy twirling a lasso over his head while keeping a hula hoop spinning around my hips. I just got out of the dojo and I’ve never had a better session. So if you say these things work, then they work and I’ll try them as well. Spread the word. 🙏
I’m working on getting my hands and club parallel in the downswing before impact. I always early extend and get that chunk. Pulling the club to level feels so weird to me. Especially with the longer clubs and driver. I video’d myself and impact looks so much better.
Weird is good when we're trying to incorporate the necessary changes in the spirit of improvement. But as the crispy impact builds in the weirdness tends to dissipate. I've been implementing this drill and using it on the course. I'm making much more consistent contact and I'm hitting it higher. This was a problem for me before and it's an unexpected result. Didn't expect that. I would think holding that angle would produce a lower flight but it's not the case. I guess this is what good contact does?
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play! Yes - you are now creating a proper impact condition and compressing the ball. As a result, what you are experiencing with your ball flight is the same reason the pros have no problem with trajectory. Maintaining a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist from setup to post-impact will keep the trail wrist in a proper condition provided we don't early extend. There ought not be any conscious or active handsy manipulations throughout the swing.
@SagutoGolf Thanks so much. One last ordinary question. Do we have to swing the lead arm as hard as the trail arm to get the right impact and speed ? I tend to release my trailing arm only.
Absolutely, Stevie - this swing key also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html Here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag. (Larry San Diego) Tom, i received my precision impact training aid to get rid of my "flip" at impact. on my half swing drills as in your video should i focus o keeping my right arm tuck in and moving my shoulders or more on making sure my left hip is cleared first? Thanks
Hi Larry, I'm glad to learn that you picked up a Precision Impact as I am confident that it will be of great benefit! The trail arm tuck is a non-negotiable, so keep that element intact regardless of whether you are thinking shoulders or hips. As for the latter, that's all a matter of your own tendencies. This is why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. For example, the sequential lessons and drills of my online school provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Enjoy your new practice aid!! Tom
A bowed lead wrist can certainly be supportive of the trail wrist angle and tucked trail arm. Where we need to be careful is when that bowing closes the face. This can especially be the case with a strong lead hand grip in which the wrist is cupped at address. If we go from that condition to a bowed wrist at some point during the swing, then the face can shut several degrees (dependent upon how strong the grip is) and some compensatory action will then be required to square things up at impact. Would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? Yes, Rick. Got mine Tom at your great price! Haven’t had a chance to use while the “Cats away” Lol Watched you video over and over and seen that you’ve used 2 different fingers in the finger straps. I am going to use the 2 fingers you used at the end of the video.
Awesome! Oh the fun you will have with your new mouse toy while the cat's out.... 😆 By the way, I just threw those two fingers in there on the fly while recording without giving any thought to it. The "official" product demo video shows the index and middle fingers, but feel free to experiment if you so desire. It felt equally fine to me with the middle and ring fingers. Tom
Fairway bunkers, Gary? Yes. As for those greenside bunker explosion shots, we have to create a different type of impact condition in order to expose the bounce of the wedge and pop the ball out on a cushion of sand. Tom
Hi Tom. You know, with me, I could not even fathom that I was flipping, because I just could not feel that, nor would I admit that I was as flippy as a fish out of water. Thanks so much for opening my eyes! Quiet hush hush hush hands....

Yes - if you previously had active hands/wrists in your swing it will definitely feel strange at first, and that is a good thing. Stick with it, beginning with small chip and pitch swings and gradually building up from there, and you will ultimately groove a proper crispy impact condition! TS
It seems so logic, however i still cannot figure out how to have straight arms after impact. I do not touch the Ball when im trying to keep the angle in my right elbow... Might have a brain/understanding problem 😂. Have to look at the free Lessons again. Really appreciate your Input.

Ha, Professor Saguto has come up once again with a classic & hilarious comment: "...and the student lays down an animal pelt size divot..."
I definitely had to clean up my coffee spill after laughing so hard on his comment. Another great & constructive video!
LOL! I'm glad to learn that you are enjoying my "lesson and a show" instruction style! Just know that despite the entertainment aspect, everything taught here from a golf swing perspective is consistent with a system rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers.
LOL! Thanks Bryan - I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and yes - no walls or pictures were harmed during filming..... 😆😆

Thanks much Tom. Those were extremely clear demonstration of both correct and incorrect moves and positions!
I tried to skip the last part of your video, but was not able to! Very nice work!

This is your update to your old “handle drag” video. Great intel. Thx!

@SagutoGolf happy to report I Accidentally found your guitar channel 😀
So cool!
And always the shoulders .
It’s like the power glove on, great video. I always was taught to get my left shoulder under my chin on back swing but turning my right up underneath coming down really helps clear the hips naturally and square up the club face. Great stuff!

Great lesson tips
I love your golf instructions you are truly brilliant my problem is that at 66 years of age and now retired I didn't play for over 41 years and I have a handicap of 14 but I love playing on my own and because of you I play par golf in Lanzarote but when I play in competition I become a nervous wreck and I can't relax so I was wondering if you could advise how we can play without nerves
Tom your instructions are brilliant take care
Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.
Tom
Thank you Tom.... I placed an order @@SagutoGolf
thanks so much for the video,I have always had trouble keeping the right wrist back.
For example, the sequential lessons and drills of my online school provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.
Regardless of what "feel" or swing key works best for you, the Precision Impact device that I demonstrated in this video is an excellent training aid that will help you to neutralize the cause of your flips and overcome this issue. Tom
One of the best video I'v seen. Is the Impact Trainer suitable for the driver swing? Thank you a lot.
To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html
(Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )
For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice have caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.

Yes 💯
I did buy that puppy a while ago, but it doesn’t work as nicely as yours. I’m guessing you may have a newer model. The one is have is similar to what’s on their website. I think the cushions on it were not glued on improperly and hinder the movements. I did reach out to them but wasn’t able to get any response. 😔
Another great video, Tom … one of your best 👍🏻 (and that’s saying something)
I know you like gadgets (golf training aids)… I used a training aid years ago called
“Greg Norman’s SECRET”
(I still have it)
It’s basically a piece of plastic that you attach to your right wrist (Velcro’d to your wrist and your index finger) that keeps your right wrist at that angle
throughout the swing.
It really worked!
I hit the crispiest shots off my life (“like KFC”) 😂
The problem with it was, it LOCKED your wrist In that angle throughout the swing (you can’t RELEASE)
But, it DID keep that angle at IMPACT (so you can feel what it’s like)
The challenge is …
How & when to SET that angle in your wrist on the backswing, and how and when to release (just after impact).
Tom
Does the precision impact trainer help imprint the proper downswing faster. Ill be working on your suggestions to stop casting. Thanks👍
It will, Richard, because it is going to help you keep your lag by retaining the angle in your trail wrist. That in and of itself will aid in shallowing your path and will also combat those casting tendencies.
If you've not already done so, you can get your Precision Impact Trainer here - pureswingproducts.com/SagutoGolf And if I've not already mentioned it to you, they are running an extra-special offer for SagutoGolfers right now! Does this work for driver too or will the angle be affect too much?
Yes - this swing key (and the featured training aid) also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.

For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.

@SagutoGolf A follow up question. The wrist angle changes make very good sense for irons but does it make sense for a driver? I haven't been able to think this through and experiment. I am with my fairway woods but I would assume it also makes sense for them.

This whole channel is constantly reminding me to sign up for your lessons 😂 Ill do just that after a few more range sessions.
Ah yes... The dark side of golf. Evil swing sorcery. The cult that is quietly, surreptitiously gathering lost swings from the vast purgatorial abyss of failed "conventional" instruction and leading them to the way and the truth of a method rooted in the unchanging principles of physics and geometry. 😎
Looking forward to seeing you in the school!

well, i would certainly agree that bringing the wrist joint into play when the club is max left, in the backswing, is just the ticket; and, as you say, the shoulders have to keep turning thru, in the downswing; or, the club will take over when it moves outside the position of the hands.
when the club is max left in the downswing the right clavicle is fully loaded; and, in a position to turn thru. so, this gives the shoulders the opportunity to have a head start on the club; and, prevent the club from taking over when it moves outside the position of the hands. but, it is the "inside muscles" in the left side of the right forearm that fully load the clavicle. when the muscles in the left side of the forearm are fully activated, in the start of the downswing, it activates the muscles around the clavicle; and, directs force into the hand which directs force into the handle of the club. this levers the shaft into its max left position in the start of the downswing. and, this process increases the arc of the right hand slighty, which, of course ensures that the palm is pressing forwards.
Great video, How is this with the driver?

While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option for you would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

Tom
Great stuff Tom. So is the swing dominated by the rt hand

It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Here are a few lessons on this topic:

Mr KFC 👍⛳️
Tom, how does the wrist hinge at the top fit in to you “quiet hands” approach to the take away? For some reason in my head these are opposing ideas?
The two are absolutely not mutually exclusive, Adrian. I simply "allow" the wrist hinge to happen without forcing anything. If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. Went to the range today and tried keeping it ultra simple focusing on the first 3 steps... I was DRILLING the frickin' ball. It was smooth - consistent - easy to replicate. Hello Tom:
Does all of this apply to swinging the driver and fairway woods?
Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact.
(A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

When or do you extend your bent wrist at impact.??????

Hi Tom. Can we subconsciously using the cupped left wrist to lock the right wrist for the impact ?
Maintaining a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist from setup to post-impact will keep the trail wrist in a proper condition provided we don't early extend. There ought not be any conscious or active handsy manipulations throughout the swing.
@SagutoGolf Thanks so much. One last ordinary question. Do we have to swing the lead arm as hard as the trail arm to get the right impact and speed ? I tend to release my trailing arm only.
Does this wrist angle work with the driver swing as well?
Absolutely, Stevie - this swing key also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html

(Larry San Diego) Tom, i received my precision impact training aid to get rid of my "flip" at impact. on my half swing drills as in your video should i focus o keeping my right arm tuck in and moving my shoulders or more on making sure my left hip is cleared first? Thanks
Hi Larry,
I'm glad to learn that you picked up a Precision Impact as I am confident that it will be of great benefit!
The trail arm tuck is a non-negotiable, so keep that element intact regardless of whether you are thinking shoulders or hips. As for the latter, that's all a matter of your own tendencies. This is why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. For example, the sequential lessons and drills of my online school provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.
Enjoy your new practice aid!!
Tom
(Larry San Diego) Really appreciate your very quick response and now the work begins. @@SagutoGolf
Can the trail wrist angle and tucked in trail elbow be corrected by a bowed lead wrist??
A bowed lead wrist can certainly be supportive of the trail wrist angle and tucked trail arm. Where we need to be careful is when that bowing closes the face. This can especially be the case with a strong lead hand grip in which the wrist is cupped at address. If we go from that condition to a bowed wrist at some point during the swing, then the face can shut several degrees (dependent upon how strong the grip is) and some compensatory action will then be required to square things up at impact.

do you keep the angle for the driver?
Yes, Rick.
Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder/armpit), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact.
So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or some of those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless.

Absolutely, Shane - this swing key also applies to the driver.
By the way, I just threw those two fingers in there on the fly while recording without giving any thought to it. The "official" product demo video shows the index and middle fingers, but feel free to experiment if you so desire. It felt equally fine to me with the middle and ring fingers.
Tom
I also tried the fingers in your video and in the Demo. Felt comfortable with both.
Does any of this transfer to sand shots?
Fairway bunkers, Gary? Yes. As for those greenside bunker explosion shots, we have to create a different type of impact condition in order to expose the bounce of the wedge and pop the ball out on a cushion of sand.
Tom
Hi Tom. You know, with me, I could not even fathom that I was flipping, because I just could not feel that, nor would I admit that I was as flippy as a fish out of water. Thanks so much for opening my eyes! Quiet hush hush hush hands....
My pleasure!! Many of us have a flippin' past; this is about ensuring a flip-free future.... 😎
Here's another recent video that includes an impact drill which can be practiced indoors and out: ruclips.net/video/-YQdrbcm8Uc/видео.html
Keep 'em quiet, keep it crispy!!
Tom
I just bought a precision impact. It’s an adjustment to get used to. It’s very unnatural but I’m going to stick with it.

Why are you so awesome Tom? 💀✨❤️
I'll have to look into that. Perhaps there is a cure??..... 😎
Thanks again for your kind words and support!

Great video! I understand now why a one handed drill is important, it has been explained to me in the best way possible. Side note: you have fantastic spatial awareness, not once did you hit the wall or the print in the background 😂
😂😅😂😂😂
Thanks Kelly - I’m very glad to know that this video - and my apparent mad spatial awareness skills 😎 - resonated with you!!
Tom
Dos this apply to driver?????
Yes - the weight forward component also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, I really emphasized the forward weight load in this recent video while swinging the driver: ruclips.net/video/PjOCxLWAKW4/видео.html
