In this video:
The tumultuous life of Edgar Allan Poe, the American writer, editor, and literary critic, began in Boston, MA on January 19, 1809. Poe was one of the early architects of detective fiction and is also considered a major contributor to the birth of science fiction. He was also among the first well-known American authors of fiction to attempt writing as a full-time job, resulting in a life of eating whatever the 19th-century equivalent of ramen noodles was.

The Maryland Historical Society are always a class act... good presentation.
Poe is one of the best authors America has ever produced. In fact, Poe did more in his four decades than most other great American writers did in twice that time.
An incredible character!
One of my favourite authors, I'm glad to see this today!
Petition to make a Whistler toaster for when that fateful day comes in honor of how great Simon is.
If I should outlive Simon it would be the greatest honor the world could bestow for me to be The Whistler Toaster
I'm glad the tradition is continuing.
You should make a poetry channel, you reading famous works of poetry.
InvincibleIrishman The channel Ours Poetica exists, and I think Simon could definitely read a favorite poem of his there. I mean, Hank Green read The Raven for this past Halloween so. :Bb
Very interesting. I sent this to my son who loves The Raven poem
When the Ravens first began playing in Baltimore, there were 3 costumed mascots: Edgar, uniform number 101; Allan, uniform number 102; and Poe, uniform number 103. After a few years Edgar and Allan were retired, leaving only Poe.
Had to hit the bell item. Barely get messages for highlight history yet and to search of there's a new one. Doesn't RUclips have a Simon list to send Simon videos to everyone no matter the channel? I have subscribed ages ago.
Just discovered this new Simon channel!
Great recounting of Poe's life, but I believe you may have mistaken Fort Munroe for Fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island, SC where Poe served for two years where he attained the rank of Sergeant Major for Artillery.
John Neal of Portland, Maine - one of the earliest American Writers encouraged Poe in his writings. Neal too had a very interesting life and enjoyed creating controversy. ❤️
Maybe the Poe Toaster that "didnt want to fight the crowds" merely passed away and therefore met with Poe in another life and wasn't concerned about the grave anymore!
Does the skull on the bookshelf behind Simon have fangs?... lol...
Considering I live in Maryland, I damn well know about the Poe Toasters.
Do Tinky Winky next.
You have yet another Chanel! Awesome :)
Great video Simon!! Keep it up!
you are marvelous as ever, fascinating
Well, he may have conned his fellow cadets, with his book “poems”, but if any of them stored it up in the attic, somebody is sitting on BIG $$$. And THANK YOU for saying about the marriage age. For some reason, people are CONVINCED women got married at 13 years old since forever. Maybe they’ll believe YOU, fountain of knowledge 🙏. My protests fall of deaf ears. And I’m so getting a shirt that says “Poe Toaster”.
Thank you ,
I share birthdays with Edgar Alan Poe! How exciting.
Edgar P Died of a broken heart...
Simon, how many channels do you have?! Are you keeping well? Worried about your sanity. 😂
"Oh my poor Pimm!"

Kung Fu Panda
Lol.
Whatever your new mic setup is, it doesn't provide nearly as rich of a sound - a lot less on the low-end.
I feel sorry for poor Poe.
TFW for just one crazy instant you think Simon's bouta do an episode about A Series of Unfortunate Events..... :-)
I wish I knew why the original toaster did it. What were their motives? What did the notes mean? Who were they? Sadly, we'll never know.
Because he liked Poe..
Poe
what about a video on HP Lovecraft
He did a biographic on him.
Curious about Poe’s exit exit from West Point. Nowadays just say you want to quit and you’re out.
Why 5 months ago
*squints* Was that mispronunciation of Amontillado intentional? 🤨
my fav creep
Kudos for going into the toaster
Thanks for not acting like a 3rd rate comedian on this channel Simon, subbed
I dont mind having the same bday as him!
I misread as you don't mind having the same body as him 😮
@@dshe8637 I wrote this very quickly during a break at work, so probably didn't word/explain well. I love him, and the fact we both have 1/19 birthdays
Hey I have the same birthday too!
If you dont mind me asking how old are you? I just turned 18!
@@zaidshah4535 Man I feel old, 36!
I always thought Poe based The Raven on that Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode.
Bring Poe's body back to Virginia!!!👻
The Raven quothing “nevermore” causes COVID!
I guess these didn't get enough attention for him to keep making them. Shame
Takes a creepy man to write like a creepy man
