- If you're running into the same issues with Airplay then I have a simple solution.
Head to Amazon and buy a HDMI to USB C dongle and enjoy Apple Fitness Plus on your TV for a fraction of the cost of buying an Apple TV!
You just save me from mental meltdown, I was so frustrated why works on preview but plays audio only on actual video . Now I know that I am not the only one
Doesn’t work with lightening to hdmi cable for iPhones. Gutted. It’s impractical to think people will look at a tiny iPhone screen
Yup have that issue and am really reconsidering cancelling the fitness +
Even an iPad screen feels tiny for fitness+.
Ya how am I supposed to hold my phone at an angle that I can see it while doing these exercises? Fucking Apple bullshit! Not only that I can’t rewind the exercises when I’m behind from watching the intro.
believe apple has stopped allowing the lighting port be used as a connection for HDMI, they want people to buy their apple tv. by allowing the lightning port to send video, everyone with an iphone or ipad would be able to watch movies on a larger screen with a 10-30$ dongle instead of a 150-250 apple tv.
@@adamgoulet5987 No they haven’t. They still allow the lightning port to be used as a connection for HDMI for movies and everything else, just not for the fitness+ videos. Even Netflix still allows the lightning port to be used for sending video from their app to a TV. Apple is restricting the use of lightning to HDMI to send video exclusively for the Fitness+ workout videos, which can only be sent to a TV using USB-C to HDMI (i.e, only if you have one of the newer iPad Pros or the latest iPad Air, which by the way if it were as you say they’d have to stop allowing as well to also make those people buy an apple tv). And the same goes for AirPlay, you can Airplay everything else to any device you have except for the Fitness+ videos which are restricted to being airplayable to apple tv HD or 4K only. That’s why a lot of people are upset that Apple seems to want them to buy an apple tv just exclusively for Fitness+ since they can use their existing equipment for everything else.
Rather than using AirPlay, you can scroll down on the control center and use Screen Mirroring. It works fine. Both video and audio. No cables required.
Great video, thank you I even have the same iPad and tv
Thanks for your video. It worked great. My only concern now is the iPad shows timer but it doesn’t show on my tv? Wonder why? Is there a setting Is there a setting i need to turn on, on my iPad?
Thank you so much. It is really useful.
You provide us a service better than apple, thank you so much !
can you add a link to the USB C dongle you purchased on amazon? There are a few different brands.
Thanks for the heads up. I certainly don’t want to buy an Apple TV just for Fitness+ so I am not subscribing until they come up with a fix. Airplay to the TV should be so straightforward.
I was all excited to start my weight loss and then bam! Spend the next 4 hours with Apple in-support telling me they know why it don’t work and to back up my brand new 12 pro max and reset it. When they know they are fucking people over so that they force them to buy an Apple TV box and additional subscription.
Thanks works great from iPad Pro using my Baseus Bolt Multifunction Hub via HDMI to our Samsung 2017 TV. Did not want to buy an Apple TV. Cheers.
Will try this thanks !
Same problem here. I am going to try the Anker from Amazon.
Idk why they don’t let you airplay it some people don’t wanna spend $150 on an Apple TV just for Apple fitness
You just saved me £179!! Thanks :)
Just bought a dongle!! Thanks!!!!
NS Tech thank you for your video - this is exactly my current concern. In fact I was hoping I could plug in my iPhone 11 Pro Max and view it on my Samsung TV. I have been reading forums online and apparently Lightning to HDMI cables do not work. There has been some success with a USB-C to HDMI cable for modern iPad Pro devices - which is indeed what you feature here. If anyone readying this has success with a lightning cable to HDMI, I'd love to have a link to the site where you purchased it Many thanks. Chris
I have the same the problem. It plays the preview video but not the actual fitness video on my Vizio TV (which has Apple TV and AirPlay capabilities)
Using USB-C to HDMI on my IPad Pro, but still doesnt work... Picked a random one off Amazon. Does it have to be a specific brand?
My watch info doesn’t appear on the tv . Only when I play it off the iPad 😔
It seems like so much extra work...
Great video.
It’s not working with an iPhone and lightning thing. I can only hear the audio! 🙄
Nor does iPad+lightninbg to HDMI adapter work at all. Seems like it works only over USB-C.
@NSTech - can you do this now with Airplay and the Samsung Tv without the cable?
// does it really not show the metrics?
there is no video of the airplay fitness+ workout
Thanks for sharing! But I tried connect my iPad and TV through USB-C HDMI, still no metrics, videos are playing in TV, but metrics still on iPad
Great: thank you
I have Apple TV and have exactly the same issue... preview is air play but when I click play the work out it doesn't play only sound on tv and video on iPad... so strange...
Anker USB-C to HDMI dongle on an iPad Pro works fine for this. NO lightning to HDMI cables work at all.
I think this may be an airplay 2 vs airplay 1 issue, which would explain why older devices, 3rd party devices and all iphones are unable to airplay fitness+ videos to a tv using both wired and wirelessly. Examples: wireless Airplay only works with an Apple TV HD or 4K but not with older Apple TV 3rd gen or earlier generations or 3rd party devices; wired airplay using an HDMI dongle only works on iPads that feature the newer USB-C port, but not on devices that still have an lightning port (older tech) including some older iPads and all iphones.
Update: seems that Apple has listened to us and in iOS 14.5 we'll be able to stream via Airplay 2. This is currently in beta testing and should be available by the end of April!
You won’t get the onscreen metrics from the watch though which is a shame. Hopefully that will follow soon after.
May I ask how to use fitness+ in firestick? Is there app supported AirPlay2?
Still isn’t working for me. Any thoughts?
@@theharplayer2036 Apple taking a bit longer than expected with ios 14.5, current ETA is mid to late April. Alternatively, you can sign up to the beta program and get early access here: beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/
@@nstech105 I downloaded the beta IOS 14.5 to test it out. I will notify if it works out or it will be a future feature on another patch.
Hi, this no longer appears to work. Have you noticed this too? Thanks
Hi! Just wanna check does the type c cable connection still works in 2022? (With rings and stats showing)
Hey did you get an answer?
Doesn’t work for me with a lightning cable thingy and an HDMI cord.
I have sound using hdmi but no workouts. I can’t find the app on ipad.
How u get it without full screen and have burn metric show up?
I’m having the same with iPhone 12. It will do the countdown on the screen but will the switch off the video and only have audio
What’s the solution?
I can’t find Apple fitness for iPad. How did you get it on there. App Store I can’t find it.
You have to have a apple to get it
You have to have the Apple Watch. Your Apple ID recognizes your Watch and then the Fitness App will show up.
THIS IS EXACTLY what’s happening to me and it’s SUPER annoying.
I tried this it worked but the heart rate is no longer on the screen when you stream it is this possible
That’s awesome I wanna do that but my APPLE Watch won’t connect to my IPAD pro. Can anybody help me please
I have this same problem but using it with appleTv
Weird it started working and then kept stopping and gave me a ton of problems
In my case it just starts AirPlay and doesn't show any additional info except video.
Why doesn’t it show Apple Watch stats
How to download fitness app to your iPad?🙏
having the same problem. that's the only work around to buy the dongle?
But only if your iPad has a USB-C port. It doesn’t work on devices that still have a lightning port, including older iPads and all iphones.
@@aba792000 THANKS! I have already tried the $50.00 Apple Lightning to HDMI Dongle and it doesn't work. I was ready to buy another brand when I read your comment.
Is the same on iPhone?
What if you buy a dongle for the iPhone for lightning to USB and then use the cable you bought in this video...will that then work?
No. Lightning to HDMI doesn’t work. You get audio but not video on the TV. I tried both with iphone and iPad (mine is an older model and still has a lightning port).
Unfortunately not. A Lightning to HDMI dongle doesn't work.
I can’t get my watch to connect to the tv anyone know how to help?
Have you got a workaround for iphones? 😅
I've seen adapters on Amazon for lightning to HDMI. Perhaps that could work?
@@nstech105 I just bought the lightning adapter to HDMI and it didn’t fix the issue on my iphone
@@caesquiv17 did you get the one from apple?
I have Apple lighting to HDMI adapter. I can confirm it does not work
But how do you connect a usb-c to HDMI and then connect it to your phone? You would need two adapters no?
Yea is happen the same thing to me
I cant get the iPad to work with my watch. It works with my phone no problem. All devices on most recent OS still doesn’t work
same
You have to have the latest update on your iPad. Then latest update on on your iPhone. Latest update on your Apple Watch. Once you have done all 3. Download the app on your IPad. And follow the instructions. I use an IPad 6Th Generation. And everything works well.
Me too! I have updated my iPad and everything and it still doesn’t work! I don’t like working out with my phone !
I was about to drop money on an Apple TV 4k as I wanted to play Fitness + and Apple TV+ on my TV... thank you for saving me £200!
I can’t even get mine to show my tv in airplay, my tv does have airplay so I’m not sure why it won’t show it.
Same!!! Someone please help!
Hi, are you using the original Apple dongle?
nope, just a random one off Amazon. Brand is called Cable Creation
I’ve tried with Apple adapter. Doesn’t work
Great! I have the hdmi to lightning, it wouldnt work. :(
Has this stopped working? I purchased a USB C to HDMI cable for my iPad Pro but I just get a black screen with the metrics on screen and the sound, no video on TV just the iPad
The same happens to me
It works for me... what kind of usb c to hdmi are you using? Mine is a cheap one and it seems to work ok. The work out might stop when it starts but if I take the sub c end out it works again. Drop me a DM and I can show you it working for me.
"It just works!"
Couldn’t you have just used screen mirroring?
What is the specific adaptor your are using? Thanks

I was told after a 2hr chat one day and two hours on the phone with two ‘support ‘ people that Apple had made a mistake and Fitness + is not compatible with Ipad. My Apple TV is 3rd gen and will not upgrade. I told them to stop advertising that an iPad could be used. I am returning my Series 3 watch. My Series 2 works just fine. All they said was ‘sorry.’
It is compatible with iPad so long as the iPad can run iPadOS 14.3, but you have to download the Fitness app from the appstore. I use Fitness+ on my 2017 10.5” iPad Pro. I can’t Airplay to my 3rd gen Apple TV or broadcast to the TV using the lightning to HDMI dongle, but I can certainly view the videos on the iPad and it finds my apple watch just fine (in fact I had more trouble to get the iphone than the iPad to find my watch!).
@@aba792000 I have a 6th gen iPad running 14.3 and was able to download the app. The app will run the vids without metrics but the iPad will not pair with my watch. I have a series 2 watch that suits me fine but my husband wanted me to be able to use Fitness + and bought me a series 3 for Christmas. I spent half one morning chatting with Apple and then on the phone with two other people. After trying many things I was finally told ‘sorry’ Apple Watch can’t be paired with an iPad. I returned my watch. So glad it works for you but I am seriously disappointed in Apple. I also had a 12 phone. Works just fine there. I just don’t want to view workouts on a phone.
@@katherinesmith3225 I had a similar problem to yours: my iphone wouldn’t find my watch, while with the iPad it was working fine. Simply restarting both the iphone and apple watch solved it without affecting the connectivity between the watch and iPad in the process, which still works fine. Did you try restarting both your ipad and apple watch before you returned your series 3? Did you ever update the series 3 to watchOS 7.2? because although I use a newer series 4, what happened to you is weird and the series 3 should have worked as well.
@@katherinesmith3225 I have a series 6 and the first iPad Pro and had no issues pairing them. Did you make sure that your iPad is under YOUR iCloud account?
@@lindsayengen Yes. As I have said I was with Apple support one morning for two hours chatting with two different support people. They said they would set an appointment time for someone to call me back the next afternoon which they did. I then spoke on the phone for an hour to two different people, the second who in the end seriously apologized and said "ipads" are not designed to pair with the Apple watch. We went through every avenue including my accounts. I sign on to my ipad with my Apple account all the time. I was hoping they would offer me a credit for a new Apple TV or my watch but they did not. All they said with 'sorry'. In fact the last person I spoke to said strangely "please don't hate us.' I thought that was weird and unprofessional. I sent my watch back to Amazon. Have a nice day!
So, if you have an iPhone and use lightening cable to HDMI seems like third party and official Apple Adaptors don’t work. Therefore, am I correct in saying that there’s no other choice but to use Apple TV box?
Apparently you are correct. Apple seems to be blocking wireless AirPlay to older Apple TV boxes (3rd gen or earlier) and 3rd party Smart TVs. They also seem to be restricting wired AirPlay using an HDMI dongle to the newer iPads featuring a USB-C port. No device with a lightning port, including older iPads and ALL iphones, can Airplay to a TV using a lightning to HDMI dongle, not even using Apple’s official dongle.
The Apple TV app on the tv doesn’t have apple fitness?
No and that pisses me off!
I tried calling apple and it’s like they didn’t even care they constantly transferred me to different departments it took me over an hour to file a complain no help since day one people have been complaining about that apple hasn’t mentioned AirPlay comparability dongle or wireless and 3 weeks later and nothing was done what are you going to do about it @apple
I was thinking to go to Costco and try to screen mirror their TVs with my 12 pro max.
@@BWeezy-sw1wy won’t work according to apple no ability to screen mirror unless you got an iPad with usb c and get a 3rd party adapter so it mirrors instead of airplay
wait what! theres an apple product which charges by USB C??
It's been couple years now.
Wow, where have you been?
iPad pros charge via USB C, iPhones and regular iPads still use ligtning port
@@djbigbert you are missing ipad air, macbooks.
I understand her confusion though. Apple made it a confusing mess for the average consumer with product uses which connector.
Yeah apple doesnt want you to Airplay. They now want you to have apple tv to use it.
No they want you to buy a newer device. That would explain why they let you airplay wirelessly only to a newer apple tv box and with a dongle only if you have a newer iPad with a USB-C port.
nice lifehack!
Not clear what you did in the connection.
If Apple does rectify this issue, THREE Apple Watches will be returned. Promptly!
lol okay Karen
I think Jay Tee means if Apple does NIT rectify the issue,...
