Am I the only one that thinks I can buy a chest freezer for under 1k and yet EVERY COLD PLUNGE OUT THERE is 3k+?????? Fridges and freezers are under 1k yet SOMEHOW we just can't figure out a simple bucket to chill humans in for less than 3k? Why I don't want to invest in this crap
I've actually used a Grizzly 400 as my plunge for over a year now - two filters, ozone cleansing and I create about 50lbs of ice to pop in each morning, no chiller needed...even here in Florida!
Thanks for sharing. A lot of helpful chapters (changing filter, how sitting in ModTub/Ice Barrel is). I'm sticking with my steel stock tank until Ice Barrel comes out with an Insulated Barrel with the height of the 400. I'd like to be in a vertical position with an ease to dunk. Maybe a helpful video would be one that shows how to drill into different tubs/barrels. I've got the hole saw down for my stock tank, but would be nervous drilling into a Grizzly 400 (different material, foam, etc.). I also would like to mount my pump, filter, electrical box, but would also be nervous in drilling holes for screws as well (drill/screw depth, seals around holes, etc.).
can you leave the chiller outside in the sun and rain without covering it on a daily basis? Same question for all the components with the plunge itself.
Insane the price on this. If it was 2k id jump on it in a heartbeat That chiller is under 600$ No way they need another 2400$ for the rest of that setup. LOL 2k I think is still greedy but I would support it for the company.
I love a good DIY myself. That’s why I show so many options on my channel. Some want to pay a little more for the convenience of not having to figure it out. Plenty of options that are cheaper
I have a 100 gallon Rubbermaid container I’m using as a cold plunge , but i have to change the water out every 3 days or so bc it starts to get slimy … what can I use to keep the water clean longer ?
It can’t shut on you easily. Someone would Have to push it or a really really hard gust of wind. And no it’s easy to open. I’ve done it as a joke and it opened right up
Thanks for this great video! I’ve been doing a lot of research trying to find the best option for me. And I reallh like this one. Debating between something inside in my upstairs guest bathroom or out in the garage. For inside - would you trust the durability/set up? I’d hate to have anything get disconnected or leak significantly. And then I suppose changing out the water would be pretty difficult/maybe impossible. I’ve contemplated using a chiller in the bathtub but need to figure out how to secure the 2 hoses and not sure that’s a risk I wanna take either. For in garage - how does it drain when ready to change out the water? Would I essentially have to let it drain where I have it set up? And have you seen any good set-ups for how to contain the water when getting out? To keep the garage floor from getting too wet/slippery.
Great review. Answered a lot of questions I had about rectangular vs. round tubs, sitting position, etc. Started cold plunging in my pool during winter but have repurposed an old fairly narrow chest freezer. Miss being able to extend my legs some but didn’t know what kind of coverage I would get with rectangular. Of course that depends on the depth of the tub. Anyway, great job.
Love your content! I appreciate all the insight! Ive been trying to decide on what to pull the trigger on with a chiller. Do you think the Ice Barrel 300 is insulated enough to work indoors with a 1/4 hp chiller? Id like to hit the 30s so debating between this, ice barrel 300, or diy.
Fun fact on the Active Aqua… you can hold the up and down arrows at the same time, and then keep pressing up until the number says 50, and it will trick your chiller into thinking the water is 50 basis points (5 degrees) warmer. So if you set it to 39 it’ll actually get down to 34
Been looking at getting one of these, so thank you very much for the video. But I do know you’re thinking about opening up your own company with all of the research that you’ve done. Is that coming soon because I would hate to buy something and then find out you made a better product.
@@DavidMausJr you and your family are very successful in life. You will definitely pick the right road. I ended up getting a grizzly 400 and building it out now.
Thank you for the suggestion I’m going to order the ice barrel stabilizer .. any ideas what I can do for a pump/filter I can install to move the water around and filter the water ?
Legit, just get the Active Aqua 1000 GPH Submersible pump that is linked in ALL of my DIY Chiller kits and just plop it in the water and plug it in. It has a pre filter that will catch any debris and will move the water around well.
I would be cautious about either a) the chemicals the company is providing or b) the dosage you are using on that system; your filter looks like mine did when I did not use any chemicals for 3 months. As soon as I started maintaining a very low dosage (0.5 ~ 1 ppm) of bromine in my barrel, the filter was able to go the same 3 months with only a bit of yellowing appearing on the filter.
@@DavidMausJr with the popularity of cold plunging rising I think it would be super valuable to see scientific analysis and testing of the sanitization options out there and how effective they are so that everyone can plunge safe.
@@DavidMausJr One other thing I wanted to share with you, I emailed Ice Barrel support to ask if Potassium Monopersulfate (Non-chlorine shock) is safe to oxidize all the nasty stuff in the water and they said YES!
In all the different setups you have the filter in a different part of the water lines. What would be the best location for the filter in your opinion? Cheers.
David do you have an idea how long it would take to go from chilling the water to heating it. I only have space for one tub. Also do you happen to know how hot the water gets. Thanks for the videos.
I was wondering the same thing if you go from dead cold, and want to turn it into a heater, how long it would take. I know it takes a while for it to cool off, not sure about heating up.
@@DavidMausJr yes got the email today..i was close to doing the 500 with all in one chiller.but after seeing you vlog with modtub on how that can be a pain to fix..i am really deciding to go with there package! .. ..will you have the 500 video with DYI yourself mod soon up?
In what world is a $3k tub affordable? Lol
Not Affordable 3K...

Tons of options my friend, this is just one of many. I have DIYs that you can do for under $1000 easily as well :)
Get a chest freezer, an ink bird thermostat, and an aquarium filter for about $1k. Easy cheesy. Just be sure to unplug everything before you plunge👍🏻
Take it easy my friend. Plenty of fb pages and other options for your proposed solution.
My inflatable + chiller (1/3hp) DIY was $600
Lets go! Love that, so many great options and i Love a DIY

Water and the Ice Barrel Ice Blocks@@timm5514
I guess 50k for a lambo is technically afforable but not realistic for alot of people.
lol. True. Lots of options. Most are over $5k. DIY is always a cheaper route and I’ve done that a lot. It’s good too
So which is better? Thinking the Ice Barrel 300 from a pricing perspective.
For whom does 3K mean “affordable” ?
Well, compared to most that are 5+k this is a good option. DIY is always the best cheap option IMO
😂 come on now stop with the cap with your click bait affordable title.
Compared to most. 😋

not a bad idea!!
How do you think the insulation compares between the ModTub and the Ice Barrel 500?
Both are very similar. Going to do a little experiment soon
The company that makes one for 900 bucks will be the company catches fire
Agreed.
i was expecting ~$1500. 3k is wild.
The Grizzly cooler is $1000, the chiller itself is $600 if you did this exact setup DIY. There are cheaper options
I’m sorry that is outrageous price , they need one for a grand everything in out out the door …
Don’t disagree
How long do you stay in for?
Depends. Sometimes 2 minutes and some times over 5. Depends on how I’m feeling and what I want to accomplish.

I suggest the Ice Barrel water stabilizer and/or hydrogen peroxide.
I’m looking for a budget cold plunge under $500. What are your thoughts about purchasing a stock tank and then rigging up a water chiller??
Great way to get it going!! I built one, have a video on it too you should check out.
Could the lid shut on you and be hard to open? I know most those style coolers get like a pressure seal when the lid shuts and it’s hard to open.

Are these mod tubs filled with bpa?
Great review. My issue is during the winter months up North when it drops to the single digits how do you keep the water from freezing?
Keep it plugged in so water doesnt stop flowing and/or get the heater option. It works great!

You could easily just buy a few bags of ice from the Costco or Sam's Club and make any tub into a cold plunge😅

Not convenient for people who plunge daily. Trust me. I chased ice all last summer. Almost every day. It’s annoying and expensive.
