You would be the type of seller who would be a gold mine to a buyer/collector who likes to buy raw to grade.Your facial expression after seing those unbelievable grades is classic! Gives me hope with my boos. Lol!
I haven’t submitted any books for grading but I’ve watched a ton of CGC unboxings. Content creators love giving CGC free advertising and I also suspect some creators aren’t very creative with their content. But you by far have made the best unboxings vids because you show every aspect of the grade reveals AND you balance it out with your great excel chart. That really brings it home for me. As far as your grades I give up on trying to figure out how CGC grades anything. There doesn’t seem to be any consistency and honestly we’ll never know because their grading standards are a secret. Take the win man. Maybe submitting 10 comics is the key. Many people submit 25 at a time and it’s always hit or miss.
Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it! And I suspect you are probably right.. it's hit or miss. You nailed, it by the way.. I decided going forward to spread out my risk among small samples of books.. It takes like 3-4 weeks to prepare 10 books for sending off, so it gives me 1 unboxing a month on average.. which I think is about the sweet spot for me. I have about 120 books waiting in boxes to be cleaned/pressed and submitted.. so I should get a lot of practice over the next 6 months to a year!

How 'liquid' are graded books? Do slabs normally sell quickly for the FMV, or is it a situation where you might have to wait a while before finding the 'right' buyer wiling to pay the asking price?
It can be quickly or take some time... it depends on how aggressively someone prices the books or is willing to negotiate. Of course, slabbed books can be moved quickly at 80%-110% FMV via an auction... but the fees suck.

@@ImproveCollectingComics that’s cool. I would of just went to my PayPal account and returned the refund. I mean a 9.8 on that book you made out like a bandit. Comic karma 👍
Newsstand is everywhere but the comic store. Direct means comic store and I believe those mailed out to people with subscriptions, could be wrong though.
I know, I am still unsure about that one. It is a one defect book.. I just think that one defect is bad enough to make it at least a 9.4.. probably a 9.2. But yeah.. maybe one moderate defect is allowable in 9.6 by CGC?
Man, you either did a great job on those presses or you benefit from some of the new hires. Grats on that Todd cover. BTW do you have a blank copy of that spread sheet you are using to keep track on a google doc or something?
Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I do that sometimes, and probably have before photos of all of these books. I find that taking pictures, transferring them to the PC, and adding them during the editing process adds a lot of time to the hobby that I'd rather spend on fixing books. But I do plan to do more "full process" videos.. I just uploaded one of a 5 part series last Wed that did this.. and a new video will come out this Wed in the same format
Yo they had to switch the labels , something is off . I've watched a couple of Minthunters videos , where they've switched books obviously and actually sent him 2 of the same book with the same serial number . He only submitted one ... Theres no way that SW 81 is a 9.6 . ABsolutely Ridiculous. CGC is on the downhill
Yeah you might be right, I saw those videos as well. Unless that top spine is somehow consider bindery???? highly unlikely But the book is perfect otherwise, if they just call that top "crunch" a crease, then it would only be allowed to be 1/16".. I have no idea how to measure that though Personally, I would never grade it above 9.2 on a good day
@@ImproveCollectingComics no way in my book .. that’s a 9.2 at best .. I mean what’s the point of grading through CGC if that’s a 9.6 .. I had an FF 48 that they gave me and my Dad a 9.2 about 6 years ago that I’m still salty about . They “said “ it had some rub on the back of the spine . There was no rub . We got robbed . That book was a 9.4 + all day . What really hurt was it was my dads .. you know what I mean ? But then to see that book get a 9.6 ? With that corner ? I’m sorry but without basic consistency they might as well be Olympic figure skating judges . This isn’t Olympic figure skating .. i mean hey I’m happy for you man , the other ones were a shade generous , but again you probably did a better job than you thought , and you may have under estimated ! Kudos to you man , but that corner is smashed . That one ain’t right imo
I recently looked it over again and looked at other 9.8's out there, I've seen some much worse 9.8's than mine.. maybe they are more lenient on this book for some reason, like maybe there was widespread distribution flaws or printer errors originally?
Not to me, to me, you just made them worthless. Yes, there are people who dislike grading companies. I would never pay for a graded card or comic. EVER. Just saying’…
I definitely understand collecting raw only.. I've seriously wrestled with going that route, since it's a much purer way to collect IMO. However, I am doing it for a side profit, and it's kinda imperative to get books slabbed on that front. I get you though, that's also what's great about the hobby.. we can each carve our own path on how we enjoy our books
Absolutely loved @14:02 - that reaction is priceless!

He gave me back $16, it wasn't a full refund... he was basically paying me for the pressing cost. I did reach out to him and let him know it ended up being a 9.8 and would be glad to send him back the $16.. no response yet. He hasn't been active on e-bay in several months
@@ImproveCollectingComics that’s cool. I would of just went to my PayPal account and returned the refund. I mean a 9.8 on that book you made out like a bandit. Comic karma 👍
When you say news standvdo you mean from the comic store ????.
Newsstand is everywhere but the comic store. Direct means comic store and I believe those mailed out to people with subscriptions, could be wrong though.
wow that star wars SHOCKED ME! 9.6 are you serious!!!
Thanks! And there is a link to the spreadsheet in the description
Awesome 😎 freaking awesome. Yes you deserve it. Congratulations 👏🎉
Thank you!
Probably got a nice grader 🤷♂️ either way it’s slabbed and ready to go
$25 for a $750 Mcfarlane key. Congrats!
Thanks!
Awesome grades on those books, who's your inside guy at CGC, haha
Bob, of course!
Yeah.. wish we could request graders, I'd use that guy forever
This was awesome GREAT books!!!!
Thanks!
Well done, nice grades. Enjoyed the video
Cool, thanks!
Next time you do this video maybe post a before pressing and after you get it back from cgc picture =) thanks for video enjoyed it
Hi, thanks for the suggestion.
Very informative video. Congrats on those high grades! New sub here, going to check out your other videos.
Awesome! Thank you!
Great work!
Thanks!
New sub; awesome work! Great books, congrats
Awesome, thank you!
Unless that top spine is somehow consider bindery???? highly unlikely
But the book is perfect otherwise, if they just call that top "crunch" a crease, then it would only be allowed to be 1/16".. I have no idea how to measure that though
Personally, I would never grade it above 9.2 on a good day
@@ImproveCollectingComics no way in my book .. that’s a 9.2 at best ..
I don’t think All Star Squadron #47 is Todd McFarlane’s first cover... I think it’s Coyote #13.
Yeah I got it wrong, I think it's his first story.. the first cover is 100% coyote 13 and infinity inc 14, which were published the same month
14:48 No, that book is not nearly a grand.
Not now, that is 8 months old.
Subbed I enjoyed this 👍 congrats bud
Awesome thank you!
I bet you if you cracked open that last spawn book and resent it it would come back A 9.6
I recently looked it over again and looked at other 9.8's out there, I've seen some much worse 9.8's than mine.. maybe they are more lenient on this book for some reason, like maybe there was widespread distribution flaws or printer errors originally?
Nice comics
Thanks!
I hope they are generous with my submissions.
Me too! GL!
never mind found it. LOL
Pgx has become more consistent than cgc
I've had books that look perfect to me that didn't get 9.8. I think you got a noob grade your books. I dont trust CGC. They are all over the place.
Guilty as charged... I was definitely (still am I guess) a grading n00b lol
@@ImproveCollectingComics I think you were more accurate than CGC.
Yea just goes to show cgc is way inconsistent
Not to me, to me, you just made them worthless. Yes, there are people who dislike grading companies. I would never pay for a graded card or comic. EVER. Just saying’…
I definitely understand collecting raw only.. I've seriously wrestled with going that route, since it's a much purer way to collect IMO. However, I am doing it for a side profit, and it's kinda imperative to get books slabbed on that front. I get you though, that's also what's great about the hobby.. we can each carve our own path on how we enjoy our books
You have FB or IG?
I actually just created an IG today for the first time, @improvecollecting
@@ImproveCollectingComics just PMed you there
