This. It wasn't just that it was late and that he didn't even try to let up. It was also the leading with the forearm right into the facemask of Lawrence.
He got a 3 game suspension. NFL: "During your game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on December 1, with 4:20 remaining in the second quarter, you were involved in a play that the League considers unacceptable and a serious violation of the playing rules. Video shows you striking the head/neck area of Jaguars' quarterback Trevor Lawrence after he clearly goes down in a feet-first slide...You led with your forearm and helmet and delivered a forceful blow to the head/neck area of your opponent when you had time and space to avoid such contact." "After the illegal hit, you proceeded to engage in a brawl, which you escalated when you pulled an opponent down to the ground by his facemask. After the referee announced that you were disqualified for the hit and your unsportsmanlike acts, you removed your helmet and reengaged with your opponent while walking down and across the field, which started another physical confrontation near the end zone. "Your lack of sportsmanship and respect for the game of football and all those who play, coach, and enjoy watching it, is troubling and does not reflect the core values of the NFL…Your continued disregard for NFL playing rules puts the health and safety of both you and your opponents in jeopardy and will not be tolerated."
3 games isn’t enough. A flagrant personal foul that results in injury which removes a player from being able to play should have a suspension penalty that is longer than what the injured player is forced out for. Ie if TLaw is out for 3 weeks on concussion protocol, Al-Shaair should be suspended at least 4. I also think that immediately defending your QB (or any player that just got taken out with a dirty hit) is incredibly sportsmanlike conduct and shouldn’t result in a flag.
As a Texans fan I'm tired of this dude getting chances. He's done shit like this so many times, gets ejected, causes a fight etc. No idea why the Texans won't bench his ass and prepare for a release, shit like this causes playoff losses. Ask the Bengals how Burfict helped them...

Lawrence has to initiate that slide earlier same as Flacco, we have all the replays in the world but in that moment it’s bang bang and the defender is trying to prevent the RUNNER(because at this point Trevor is a runner) from getting the first down. I know it’s unpopular but go watch some QBs with prior baseball history like a Kyler Murray or prime Russell Wilson that actually know how to slide, that slide is being initiated well before the defender can really do anything.
@ I’ll agree to disagree 👍🏾😃 it was an unfortunate bang bang play that happens in football all the time, it looks bad but I’m sure the defender had no intention on hurting Lawrence, simply trying to stop him from getting the first down.
@@jermobands919 Based on this thread we are about 1-10. You cant make a defender defend both the first down AND the person trying to get it. Worse still, the slide seems designed to move the head t-ball style into standard shoulder tackle position. A tackle has to stop the runners momentum, and the defenders practically have to look away to avoid helmet hits. Its all hindsight nonsense.
In the Pat's Game TE Hunter Henry took not one, but two direct helmet to helmet hits on the same play and nothing was called. The "we care about safety" league has never cared less, but if people just keep gambling on it and watching nothing will change
@CptColumbo Cause Trevor is treated as a runner? Funny how we selectively forget how the game is played because of a injury in a game that is known for this stuff, but fans will still complain about overprotecting QBs like roughing the passer yet wanna come out with pitch folks over this.
@@345optimusprimeYeah… even if that were an actual RB or WR, that’s still a dirty hit. If you give yourself up, the play is dead. That type of hit is dirty. period.
He's done this too many times this season. Sideline punches thrown for penalties etc, hope we release him. Dude is going to cost us a playoff game doing shit like that...
DeMeco needs to take control of the complete team. They are falling apart. Undisciplined, missing tackles, constant penalties, allowing bad teams to stay within a winning score
Oh shut it mate.Dude is going full speed and tried to use his arm to avoid a head hit but obviously still hit him. People out here playing judge because suburban boy who sucks at football got hit

Yall are soft dude left the pocket chose to run at the linebacker instead of the corner back on the sideline trevor 6'6" 235 he made a low iq move and paid for it. Hope he heals up and plays smarter
Not even close to a dirty hit. You can’t defy physics. The slide takes 5-7 yards to complete. The hit happens 3 times as fast. Why are we telling them to slide anyways? The slide allows the head to hit the ground after the hit. There’s nowhere the for the head to go but in the ground. The ground ain’t moving. If anything they’d be better off not sliding. Three games for this is egregious. Absurd.
I almost wanted to agree with the people acting like this wasn’t a dirty hit. I think defenders get called too often for hitting quarterbacks who slide late when a collision is already unavoidable. I think if they make a reasonable effort to at least minimize the contact, there should be some leeway. But this is different, this guy had more time than most do, and made no effort to miss Lawrence. He even added in an elbow to the face for good measure. Penalty and ejection is warranted, and I wouldn’t be against a game or two suspension.
I'm not disagreeing just to disagree. He's a RUNNER. He dropped down to slide after the defenders feet left the ground. It wasn't a high hit until Trevor slid under it. I'm a Washington fan. If Jayden Daniels did this it would 100% be his fault.
Texans fan here and I was disgusted by the hit. It made me stop caring about getting the win because it was so bad for Jax and it was all on Al-shaair. They lost two guys, Texans only lost one, and to top it off the penalties offset and Jax didn't even get better field position or a new set of downs. Effing terrible.
Losing Lawrence, Engram, and the field position... for doing literally nothing wrong (ethically speaking) in that entire sequence ... That's just awful NFL.
@dcutbi001 So we gonna feel bad for a player especially a QB who knows he’s treated as a runner outside the pocket. Give me a break you over emotional fans.
@@345optimusprime even runners can slide with the expectation of not being hit. It’s why the league places the ball where the slide starts, not where it finishes, to tell the defense they don’t need to physically stop a slide. Think.
@345optimusprime so you either don't know the rules or you think playing dirty is okay. Regardless you just told everyone how stupid you are, congrats.

@@jakob12369 agreed, I don't get a lot of Texans games so I didn't see what he does on a game to game basis. But this hit, in and of itself, is egregious enough to warrant a multi game suspension. And also the Bears game where his hit on Williams, debatable if it was late or not, doesn't matter too much, but he threw a punch at a player that wasn't even part of the scuffle. He clearly has a tendency for being unhinged and should be removed from the league before he goes full Charles Martin and ruins someone else's career.

@@table2187 "debatable if it was late or not, doesn't really matter too much" I'd recommend ABCmouse to help your reading comprehension, it's working well for my 3 year old.
Hit wasn’t that bad. QBs need to take their health seriously and slide earlier instead of trying to get every yard or fake a slide. It was a penalty and That was it
Nah the dumb dude shoulda initiated his slide earlier to safe as a QB would. He didn’t do that. He tried to manipulate his slide for a first down and got the consequences for that period quit being a lil bich.
Don't be ridiculous. It was not dirty. People are massively overreacting due to the final outcome, and are being completely unrealistic. There was, at most, a split second between Lawrence starting to slide and him starting to dive forward for the tackle*. How exactly would you like this very large human being who is moving very quickly to defy the laws of physics and magically stop his momentum in that split second? It sucks that Lawrence got injured, but that doesn't automatically mean that the hit was dirty. *even that is debatable; it isn't obvious that he was sliding until after he had already started to dive forward for the tackle. At the moment that he starts the tackle, Lawrence is standing upright and could just as easily been planting his feet to change direction.
Yep. Finally someone on here with a brain!!!! It’s so close and happens so damn fast these things are gonna happen. They need to refine the parameters of legit QB slides. Sliding at the last possible second when the defender has next to no time to react seems a bit unfair. If you wanna run then be prepared to get hit. He could have chose to protect himself and slide sooner. He waited and got creamed. If you do that this kind of thing will happen.
Joe took worse hits than that. There was no moral conscience about it. It was their job. These QBs better keep their head on a swivel. They ask these guys to be a monster but then expect them to let up on the QBs. Well they mostly do a good job
@michealthomas it is football and hits like that are really only recently treated like a travesty. I don’t think it’s great when a player gives themself up and takes a shot in the head but I also just feel like it’s football and stuff like that is going to continue to happen sometimes.
@@michaelthomas229this is football. Lets just play flag football then. In the heat of the moment, you don't tackle someone thinking, "Hey lets put this guy's safety first". Anyone seriously defending this hit HAS to be trolling. I'm a Texans fan and was "defending it" in my fantasy football chat to wind up my league mates, but to defend this hit in all seriousness is bonkers
I'm not a Texan fan nor a fan of any nfl team. I think everyone is overacting over the hit. He put his arms up - he didn't use his head or shoulder pads. I disagree with your hypothesis. If a quarterback is gonna run, then they better hit the turf much earlier than he did. There are a lot more viscious hits in rugby.
Texans fan here. Didn’t even care about the win after that hit. No place in our game and hope TLaw recovers. Azeez is a good and impactful player but there’s too many moments like these where he seems to do way too much. Shoutout to Evan Engram for doing the right thing and riding for his guy. The fact that we almost lost that game as well to Mac Jones shows how much this team has unraveled. Sad to see
A violent collision has no place in a game full of them? I get it was a nasty hit, but outrage such as this is how you get the NFL playing flag football.
more leagues need to allow that. it isnt a huge part of the nhl anymore, but damn if that clown had to throw hands with a 300 pound lineman after plays like that he would either play better or be retired. either way it would be a win for the nfl
@@qp2044 i don't have the time nor time zone to follow the nhl anymore, I also think hockey is probably cleaner than in the past as well. You are for sure correct, even a TE would wreck a safety.
Always bad to see head injuries such as this one and hope TLaw will be alright and have a speedy recovery. However, this whole using still frames to say "he definitely had time to stop himself" is just BS. Trevor is a professional athlete, and quite a good runner. He's also 6'6 and 220 pounds, running full speed right at Azeez. The "initiating the slide" frame is him slowing down, he doesn't actually go down for another couple of yards and could have just as well used his athleticism to change directions, or juke from there, which I would argue you can see him considering before sliding. All of this also happens exactly at the first down marker, so what is the LB supposed to do there ? Bend the concepts of time and space to "Matrix" himself out of the hit ? Or just let Trevor go and hope that he's sliding and not trying to make a move for the first down ? Ultimately he defends the first down marker and hits Trevor in his chest with his forearm before the helmet is contacted and bounces of the ground to cause the injury. If you want to avoid these types of "dirty hits", either the QB has to slide earlier, or you have to get rid of the whole "slide" rule to force QBs to actually protect themselves. Stop expecting defenders to make these split second decisions between potentially hurting the QB or giving up an easy first down.
While I agree sliding should come with giving up the run plus a penalty for fake sliding, 0:29 Trevor starts the slide while azeez still has both feet planted. The hit occurred at 0:31, the average reaction time is 0.25 seconds let’s assume the nfl players are better 0.20 was what Clemson players recorded in a study. That leaves time to at least not lead with the elbow, that is what makes the difference imo.
@@owlwithahowl7798 The time stamps you are referencing are on a slow-mo replay ... Trevor is running at full speed at 0:00 and both players are laying on the ground before the video reaches 0:02 in the real time replay at the start of the video. That means that the whole slide-hit interactions happens in likely less than a second in real time, where reaction time is one thing, but changing the momentum of an initiated tacke is a completely different game, especially since I see Azeez's foot off the ground and about to plant for the hit in the shot you mention at 0:29. As for the elbow part, I think you can argue both sides, because if you take away Azeez's arm initiating the contact, there is a high likelyhood his shoulder or helmet hit TLaw directly in the head instead, which the leage is making a point of penalizing more than anything else (including KC WRs comitting literal crimes *cough cough*). Ulitmately, I think this comes back to the trend of adding more and more rules to protect and benefit the QB and the offense at wide, only resulting in reckless behavior from said players, who obviously try to take advantage (that's the nature of any competitive sport) and get hurt as a result ...
@@Azzertyo while I agree it's an issue with the rule of the slide, I hope there is a rule change to a slide ends the run and fake slides are heavily penalised. I think there could have been a thing he could have done. His reaction of "tf did I do" I mean you know it's a bad hit intentional or not aside you`re in the hit and should have recognised that was a rough hit. Call me soft but there has been multiple incidents regarding azeez this season and there should be a fine no matter what. But in the end I'm not godell so let's see what happens.

He was on the sideline punching guys after cheap hitting Caleb Williams. That kid is sick. League did nothing. So now. This is part Leagues fault. Texans are dirty.
@ He was getting out of bounds. Lawrence was sliding. Technically a legal hit so i get it. The punch to Jenkins deserved a suspension if NFL wants to clean up the gang warfare s-t. If not then fine him 11,000. Eberflus just lost his job in large part because of no accountability from guys like his DB Tyrique Stevenson. Texans stole a game knocking Lawrence out of the game and maybe costing Jags 2 more weeks or more? Some of these guys refuse to believe rules are for them. 11,000 did nothing to change that kid and his Coach isn’t about to help. I could see in the Bears game that the Coaching staff was pushing rules limits on the defensive holding even after it was called several times. I said then that it would mess them up. I like the Texans and their QB but their coaches are idiots if they don’t clean it up.

Slo mo shows it was a clean hit on front pads. QB's who act like running backs get HIT like running backs. QB could easily throw the ball away to avoid injury. Suspend and fine Evan Engram for starting fight at end of the play.
I guess the defender just needs to let the opponent beat him? Hes trying to stop a 1st down not end his life. Just because trevor has glass for bones players need to be ejected for making plays?
Trevor Lawrence is truly a QB that cannot catch a break. Ankle injury sends the 2023 season into a spiral, messes his shoulder up and watches the lions MURDER Mac Jones. Then finally comes back to try and bring some joy for their last few games and he gets done dirty. Hope he is okay.

Actually if you watch frame by frame Azeez is standing up right and hasn’t started a charging by the time that Lawerence is already attempting to slide.
@@AwesomeCardGames Azeez isnt watching TLaw's legs in slow motion 5 times from 15 yards away. He watched a 200 pound chest moving foward once in real time toward his first down marker. TLaw then put his head where his chest used to be.
New rule: if a player injures another player on a flagrant penalty, they are suspended without pay for the duration of the injury. Injuries will happen, but a dangerous horse collar tackle (the kind that breaks legs), or this kind of hit should cost the player, with the cost increasing with the effect. Only flagrant fouls should be eligible for this, but we have to stop this kind of thing
Pretty good idea. Side note....intent is what should dictate the type of punishment you are talking about. No excuse for it and no place.for it....period.
1:39 I get your point-if the tables were turned, we’d probably have done the same thing. But I can’t just not defend my team, man. That hit was dirty as hell, though. Honestly, we might accidentally force Tua into an early retirement when we play the dolphins. This isn’t the first time this team has lost control on the field for no reason (looking at you, Bears game).
At best, it could have been an accident after committing to the hit and not pulling up. But he came up afterwards with his palms raised like "what, you're going to flag me for that?" He knew what he did, then played the can't-play-defense-anymore card.
What's he supposed to do? Let him get the 1st down, help him back up and shine his shoes? Defenders should play defense! Trevor Lawrence thought because he's a QB he won't get tackled/hit?
Reminds me of the time Trent Green was sliding against the Bengals way back in the day. The Bengals defender hit him so hard that his helmet slammed super fast and violently against the turf. He was never the same after that hit.
Ok it’s bad but that Flacco one is wayyyy worse people acting like he killed a man on turf dirty hit deserves a suspension atleast 3 games but cmon I feel we are over blowing this did it really need its own videos I mean cmon it’s not that deep
The fact you've put this vid out while the game was still going on is insane! Truly a youtube producer on a new level. I'm also a game-going Texans fan! Terrible hit and wondering did the hateful energy from yesterday's college games invade the NFL? Possibly
Screw that. Sliding doesnt change the laws of physics. The existence of a surrender move that puts your head into the original legal target zone continues to be stupid. The surrender move should be to spike the football forward and shield their head with their arms. Or better yet, ban qbs from advancing the ball by running the same way we do fumbles.
Someone watched too many Burfict lowlights before the match. Saw another replay where he's smiling while raising his elbow brace to hit Lawrence straight in the face.
Yup. Not at all saying that hit wasn't dirty af, but when you're running full speed trying to get a 1st down and you got a guy running 20+ mph straight at you who's only thought is to stop you from getting to that line, brace yourself. That slide rule gonna get you killed.
It’s a late hit, but it’s a late slide too. Pointless because the slide wasn’t getting him a 1st, an earlier slide would’ve been much safer. It’s like boxing: first rule is to protect YOURSELF at all times. Why wait and make it a bang bang play?? If you want the first then dive head first
@AlchemicalCarnival as long as you have guys like Mahomes who fake slides, this will continue to be an issue. Bang bang play. Was it dirty? I guess in this day and age but I've seen worst.
Alright fine I’ll be the one to say: if we hate this kind of hit so much we need to litigate away fake-slides from QBs. In slo-motion everything looks awful but in real time I’d like to see any of these people saying “he should’ve bailed out of the hit” able to stop on a dime from a dead sprint. Should the defender just slide into him as well? People are so quick to be mad someone got hurt, and they should be concerned for TLaws health, but these rules on protecting QBs are INSANE. If I was a QB and I was about to get hit, I’d just drop one of my legs to look like I was “initiating a slide” and guarantee a flag.
Once you take off you are a runner . The game looks a lot slower on the couch but once you lock in on a tackle it’s not as easy to “let up” as any broadcaster makes it sound. Bro def tunnel visioned but far from “the dirtiest hit” (not a Houston fan) y’all gotta remember these plays are seconds long . Bro did not do that shit intentionally and QBs take the risk when they run.
As a person with a brain, yall soft. Giving yourself up means to stop advance and forfeiting yards. Lawrence saw Al 5 yards ahead breaking down, but continuing to run instead of sliding. Went 3 more yards before deciding to slide. CJ's IQ isn't that low to let himself get hit like this. Fine, yep. Suspension, maybe because the nfl suspends player in clean plays but a bad outcome. Just don't call it dirty, offensive players need to take accountability for protecting themselves. WRs and RBs take way worse, but it's dirty because it's a qb. Once he leaves the pocket and tucks it, no more special treatment. Call it unnecessary, call it bad on both players, unfortunate, crappy all true. Dirty is my problem. Managers fire people, it's not pretty, but it's part of the job description. Defenders hit people and it's their job to minimize yardage. This was a bang bang play and very situational. It's not like Lawrence was already down and he runs into him helmet first. He lead with his forearms, hits Lawrence's shoulder and the momentum of his helmet bounces into the follow through and hits the ground. Unnecessary in hindsight, but there was no malicious intent. He got ejected, going to get fined and most likely suspended. Fair. Dirty is way too far. If you think that's dirty, maybe a non contact sport is more suitable. Whatever punishment he gets, just remember Garrett tried to murder a QB with their helmet. This is how everyone is overreacting. To me this isn't even on the scale of 10 roughing the passer calls this year where the players served no suspension though they dected QBs on their blindside 10 secs after the WR caught the ball. Just breath and chill the fuck out.
SIMPLE SOLUTION - PUT THE RESPONSIBILITY ON THE QUARTERBACK TO SLIDE WELL BEFORE THIS KIND OF THING CAN HAPPEN - QB'S HAVE BEEN TAKEING ADVANTAGE OF THIS RULE ESPECIALLY ALONG THE SIDELINES - IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT THE ENTIRE GAME DOES NOT RESEMBLE FOOTBALL -
Just curious, did you type that on a physical keyboard using caps lock or on a mobile device? I usually watch RUclips on my mobile device and getting an entire sentence out in all caps is kind of a pain without a convenient caps lock key.
Idk maybe I'm ignorant but that doesn't look that bad to me. The guy already looked horizontal when trevor started to slide. If the qb doesnt want to get hit they shouldnt run.
My Jags get a franchise QB for the first time since Mark Brunell, and he has to start off his career with Urban Meyer, almost has his knee snapped in half his 2nd year against the Lions, have injuries pile up in his 3rd year, and injured again and out for multiple weeks in his 4th year, only to come back and immediately get murdered in his first game back from injury. What the FUCK man. The Jacksonville Jaguars are cursed.
How about quaterbacks just stop sliding. Quarterbacks suffer more consciousness than any other position in the league, and this is probly a big reason. STOP SLIDING.
I don't care about either team, go broncos, it wasn't that bad of a hit, it looked horrible and Trevor left so everyone thinks it's awful. 5 yards at full speed is less than half a second, you can't react that fast.
Both Flacco and Lawrence slid too late trying to get the first. Watch the tape in real time, no time at all for LB to pull up. All you armchair couch potatoes haven’t played in years or never played forget that physics is a thing. Lbs don’t have anti lock brakes. If you don’t slide before they commit to the tackle you are done.
As someone with no dog in this fight, this & the flacco hit looked like everything happened extremely quickly. This feels like people with the benefit of slow motion thinking its easier to change direction that fast than it realistically is. I could be wrong.

But this is different, this guy had more time than most do, and made no effort to miss Lawrence. He even added in an elbow to the face for good measure. Penalty and ejection is warranted, and I wouldn’t be against a game or two suspension.

At the moment that he starts the tackle, Lawrence is standing upright and could just as easily been planting his feet to change direction.
fake slides not being outlawed made this happen. it's on the league's hands. in real time it's not as black and white as it is on the replay. get real

Azeez isn’t the only one on this team that has done some questionable things on the field so far
He threw up that forearm, he knew well what he was trying to do.
Shouldn't run if you aren't prepared to also get hit
@@carl5917 “protect yourself at all times”. The league can’t unconcuss you, whether this is a penalty or not.
Yes slides should come with the run ended and a harsh penalty for fake slides still doesn’t excuse the hit
This hit was 100% Lawrences fault. Go out of bounds or make it clear your going down.
0:15 Anybody else hear something different the first time? I had to go back to make sure.
I heard it too
I’m still hearing it 😂
Feel so sorry for black people @@samulalimo6615
Imagine if it was Mahomes 😭 guy would be banned
SIMPLE SOLUTION - PUT THE RESPONSIBILITY ON THE QUARTERBACK TO SLIDE WELL BEFORE THIS KIND OF THING CAN HAPPEN - QB'S HAVE BEEN TAKEING ADVANTAGE OF THIS RULE ESPECIALLY ALONG THE SIDELINES -
IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT THE ENTIRE GAME DOES NOT RESEMBLE FOOTBALL -
Just curious, did you type that on a physical keyboard using caps lock or on a mobile device? I usually watch RUclips on my mobile device and getting an entire sentence out in all caps is kind of a pain without a convenient caps lock key.
NO JUST LARGE ENOUGH SO THATFOOTBALL FANS CAN MAKE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN MY COMMENT ITHEIR DELUSION
Idk maybe I'm ignorant but that doesn't look that bad to me. The guy already looked horizontal when trevor started to slide. If the qb doesnt want to get hit they shouldnt run.
Definitely a penalty but I’ve seen worse. He waited to long to slide.
@@drinkinrawacky154 Mr. Texans fan he was 5 yards away and lead to the head with his hard elbow brace. Totally unneccessary.
Poor slide and tackle timing . Why slide so late with your head up
My Jags get a franchise QB for the first time since Mark Brunell, and he has to start off his career with Urban Meyer, almost has his knee snapped in half his 2nd year against the Lions, have injuries pile up in his 3rd year, and injured again and out for multiple weeks in his 4th year, only to come back and immediately get murdered in his first game back from injury.
Go Bo-roncos!!!!
But i would say this is a bit of monday morning quarter backing, but its more like sunday night linebacking. Heres hoping the prince gets better. Would like to see the jaguars improve as a franchise.
I saw that hit and got a phantom pain from my concussion, hope he gets better soon!
I didn't know Kareem Jackson was currently playing for the Texans
Unpopular comment maybe qbs should think twice about running if all they do is a slide and get easy yards nfl is to soft now
