Obviously a lot of people have never played competitive football… yes the play should be penalized. But i think the over arching issue is the hardness of the turf and the qb sliding. Your entire premise is flawed. EverBank is a Tifway 419 Bermuda Grass field. I would take good field turf over badly maintained grass. @Black4Cook 5 yards away.. these 2 players run a 40 yard dash around 4.6 seconds. That's 8.7 yards per second, which equates to 5 yards in about 0.6 seconds. Cut that in half since they are running full speed directly at each other and you have 0.3 seconds. 1/3rd of a second.. the exact amount of time it takes for you to BLINK, is how long you have to make that decision. But everything looks so easy when you're watching slowmo instant replay right? Yeah, just stop talking. You never played football.
The problem with a one game suspension, this is not the first time this player has done this, there are videos of him doing it at least two other times this year.
NFL needs to ban sliding if they're r going to ban the hip drop tackle. you need at least 3 step to be able to react and jump over someone, anything less, at that speed your risking straining or tearing something. At the speed these players are going they can cover 5 yards in 2 strides, now you add someone else running in the opposite direction. The NFL needs to make it where the QB is already sliding 10 yards in advance, not 5. just look at how late Trevor slid, AL-Shaair had to launch bc he didnt have any room for another stride.
His Hit came with the intention of hurting Trevor.. plain and simple. when I seen this my first thought was what if he had hit Tua the same way, what would happen? Permeant Injury or death..
DIRTY PLAY: It takes the EXACT same amount of time for a Defensive player to decide if he is going to lead with a Forearm to the head neck area while wearing a STEEL BRACE ... as it does to do a monkey roll right over the top of a defenseless player doing a 'GIVE UP' slide. (one point 7 seconds) SUSPEND HIM FOR THE SEASON with NO PAY
Diving is more dangerous as we saw from TUA injury u head/face first and it can cause even more horrible injuries sliding is better and players should be professional and conscious enough to know and see a QB slide
i would not agree. If you dive you can tense up you head/neck and prepare for contact but when you slide you almost have 0 tension in your neck which result in this bang bang plays where they hit you to the head and the head hits the ground.

Slide early if you don't want to get hit. There should be a halo around the person sliding. If they slide if someone is within that halo. Equals no penalty if there is contact. As long as its not excessive.

If the QB is the first stringer, the offending team needs to lose their QB also till the injured QB returns to action!!
No he didn’t lol. There was 4-5 yards from where he started his slide to where Azeez hit him. He slid short of the first down as well it’s not like he tried getting the first down by running longer and then sliding.
@@larry2281 5 yards is a half second in football game speed there genius lol, trevor should have realized he wasn't going to make the first down and slide way before then. he got greedy and got popped.
It's not dirty play. At full speed, you can't tell if he's gonna slide or fake it. He's a runner at this point and not a QB. Players must protect themselves at all times.
The solution is to eliminate a player sliding/giving themselves up. Sliding puts the ball carrier in a position where they can't protect themselves from incoming contact, even if it ends up being incidental. A defender cannot play the game at full speed and in a fraction of a second, be required to go from a position of initiating contact to one of avoiding contact. It's unreasonable, dangerous, and becomes a physical impossibility if the player slides at the last possible moment, trying to eek out that last yard, or foot, or couple of inches. It's a contact sport. Play through the contact and get tackled.
The rule should be if a quarterback decides to run past the line of scrimmage, you should be treated like a running back. Sliding/giving yourself up past the line of scrimmage should result in a 5 yard penalty for the offense. The stats count as a rush and rush yards so if qb’s want to rush, take the hit like everybody else.
There's no defense for that hit. Even Demeco Ryans, the Texans head coach who was an All Pro middle LB, made no attempt to defend it. He said we don't coach that. That was a clear attempt to injure a defenseless player who had given himself up with a violent shot to the head and should get him a suspension of at least 4 games.
Not everything is going to be coach, my guy, are you retarded? Plus, Trevor went down too late. Just to get a first down, knowing that he's going to get hit.
That’s too much. Trevor slid late so there wasn’t much time for the defender to react. He should get suspended for leading with the forearm rather than trying to do a traditional tackle bear-hug style. We don’t want to disincentivize hitting QBs so much that QBs get away with everything, just enough to disincentive hard-hitting on QBs.
@@Deerjason The defender had plenty of time to pull back on that hit and instead he delivered a blow to the head. His head coach didn't claim otherwise
@@Don-md6wn late hits are inevitable the later a qb slides. What is preventable is how a defender plans to tackle a qb, it should be taught that knocking a qb down is bad and rather someone should bear-hug tackle a qb by putting their body weight on them rather than punching. This way, defenses shouldn’t be scared of touching a qb while preventing qb head injuries.
I agree with the forearm was dirty.. but it's a fast paced game with 200+ lbs men hitting each other at full speed.. and the game has become so crazy at protection the QB it gets to a point the QBs take advantage.. the defenders at this point are screwed either way.. its people and fans trying to make this game flag football and think they can stop injuries when everyone is running full speed on roads and all kinds of juices
hit with a forearm is always illegal, any runner can slide this isn't a QB getting special protection issue, defender wouldn't have been screwed if he just let Lawrence slide, put flags on Lawrence and Al-Shaair would still be aiming for the head.
When you knock a player out of the game with an injury like that, the offending player should not be allowed to until the injured player is able to play again
I severly hate this. Yea it sucks Trevor was injured. But what do you want these players to do seriously. You want these guys to go 100% and in a split second you have to process that the player is sliding and to let up. To me these guys sign up for this and what happens happens. Not to mention, ladd getting hit helmet to helmet in that falcons game.. and the Flagg was picked up.. but let derwin grace his helmet on another player and he gets suspended yet the chargers couldn’t even get an obvious call.. officiating is completely useless.

Azeez was looking right at Trevor’s head, before he raised forearm and went for it. Intentional.

@@HHHPedigrees Azeez’s eyes were looking directly at Travis’s face before he raised his forearm up on purpose to hit his head when he lunged at him. I think these sorts of situations usually happen when a QB slides right as they're going to reach the first down marker. Defenders want to hit them to prevent them from getting the first down, but the QB wants to prolong the slide.
Obviously a lot of people have never played competitive football… yes the play should be penalized. But i think the over arching issue is the hardness of the turf and the qb sliding.

Sounds like Dan O may have suffered a few too many concussions to think diving would be safer.
i would not agree. If you dive you can tense up you head/neck and prepare for contact but when you slide you almost have 0 tension in your neck which result in this bang bang plays where they hit you to the head and the head hits the ground.
If you get paid millions of dollars, you should be able to get hit. If ufc had all these rules football has now, they'd be only wrestling.

Slide early if you don't want to get hit. There should be a halo around the person sliding. If they slide if someone is within that halo. Equals no penalty if there is contact. As long as its not excessive.

I remember Joe Flacco taking a very similar hit a few years back. The look on him right after said it all.
The Kenny Pickett rule should absolutely apply to the NFL
The rule should be if a quarterback decides to run past the line of scrimmage, you should be treated like a running back.
Sliding/giving yourself up past the line of scrimmage should result in a 5 yard penalty for the offense.
The stats count as a rush and rush yards so if qb’s want to rush, take the hit like everybody else.
This comment makes too much sense, therefore it’ll never happen
I thought that first was actually an active rule? Maybe I'm mistaken it fir something else
So tired of slides. If you want to leave the pocket and run for twenty yards, you “takes your chances.”
