    Make the fake slide an Illegal play & a 15 yard penalty. That way defenders know when a QB slides, its not a fake, and they aren't second guessing in the moment.

      100% agreed. I was watching that Patrick McHomes play realtime when it happened. As a defensive player I would have got him back on the next play. Pullin those types of stunts takes advantage of all the rules to protect these QBs. Fake slides and faking going out of bounds should be penalties.

  • @WhisperingPeace

    They could just change the rules so that just tagging the QB when the QB scrambles past the line of scrimmage ends the play. If the league is wanting to prevent these types of traumatic impacts on QBs, this could be the easiest way to do it. This would not apply to run plays designed for the QB. All bets are off for that. The league is better when QBs stay healthy and are able to play the full season.
    I think that too many QB's put themselves at unnecessary risk. They should instead just slide way early or run out of bounds way early, and live to fight again.
    With the exception of a concussion in 2022, Russell Wilson is a good example of a QB who has intentionally avoided unnecessary contact with defenders. He has stayed free of serious injury during his QB career.

      Slowing thought to body response will limit his playing ability. You can clearly see this in hockey players after concussions . The reflexes slow even a little and their abilities to make plays at high speeds deteriorates as well as their ability to protect themselves from the same thing happening again. How many concussions has Trevor had to date?

      When will people learn that the NFL is a business, it’s not about fairness. They are not going to take out qb sliding if anything all the rules changes are going to favor the QBs. The QBs are what drives viewership and people into the stands. Scoring points is what gets most casual viewers into the stands not hard hitting defense whether you like to admit it or not. So the NFL will do everything in their power to protect QBs

    • @SelfHatingLionsFan
      @SelfHatingLionsFan Месяц назад +4

      They absolutely should be. That's the only way to ensure it can be none of that fake slide bs, where the DB has no choice but to either take a huge penalty, fine, & possibly suspension, or have espn clowning them all night bc they were "faked out" and the QB goes down the sideline for a 40 yard TD
      And let's be clear.... that's EXACTLY what they have done before (espn that is)

  • @lantzdille1999
    @lantzdille1999 Месяц назад +33

    WHY would you seriously recommend that a QB DIVE into coverage to protect himself?! The whole idea of the slide is to indicate to the defense that you are giving yourself up and ending the play/down where you slide.
    Why would you LEAD with your head and dive into coverage exposing yourself to that kind of contact? That doesn't seem to make any sense.

    • @braderwin9620
      @braderwin9620 Месяц назад

      More QBs have been knocked out by the slide, than the dive. I never liked it. It's BS, it's dangerous, and should be removed from the game.

    • @NerdyOutdoorVeteran
      @NerdyOutdoorVeteran Месяц назад

      Because if you dive you can curl up and move your head away from the defender. A dive exposes the head to the defender as the taller point. This exact play, if Trevor dives, the defender would not have hit his head.

  • @tohrazul
    @tohrazul Месяц назад +6

    The solution is to eliminate a player sliding/giving themselves up. Sliding puts the ball carrier in a position where they can't protect themselves from incoming contact, even if it ends up being incidental. A defender cannot play the game at full speed and in a fraction of a second, be required to go from a position of initiating contact to one of avoiding contact. It's unreasonable, dangerous, and becomes a physical impossibility if the player slides at the last possible moment, trying to eek out that last yard, or foot, or couple of inches. It's a contact sport. Play through the contact and get tackled.

      @@Don-md6wn late hits are inevitable the later a qb slides. What is preventable is how a defender plans to tackle a qb, it should be taught that knocking a qb down is bad and rather someone should bear-hug tackle a qb by putting their body weight on them rather than punching. This way, defenses shouldn’t be scared of touching a qb while preventing qb head injuries.

    I agree with the forearm was dirty.. but it's a fast paced game with 200+ lbs men hitting each other at full speed.. and the game has become so crazy at protection the QB it gets to a point the QBs take advantage.. the defenders at this point are screwed either way.. its people and fans trying to make this game flag football and think they can stop injuries when everyone is running full speed on roads and all kinds of juices

      hit with a forearm is always illegal, any runner can slide this isn't a QB getting special protection issue, defender wouldn't have been screwed if he just let Lawrence slide, put flags on Lawrence and Al-Shaair would still be aiming for the head.

      Steve Ackwater, on the goal line, hitting kristen Nicoyer.
