Something about the drummer cracks me up. He looks like a dad whose daughter is making him play band with her. I can't tell if he's bored or pissed or high or what. But he's doing it dutifully. Good job, dad.
Is it just me or she is really one of the greatest young musicians? Her sense of melody and rhythm is unique and very interesting. It's always somehow.. new(?) and fresh for me. Like... she is so unexpected with what she brings. You don't really know the song even if you know it. Her music is complicated, very elegant and brave. I don't know, she is an inspiration for me. I think she is kind of the definition of music for me. She is something known but also very unrecognized every single time. I love it. She is difficult. Very, VERY interesting.
If you ever have the opportunity to see her live, do it! I just saw her in atlanta and was blown away. As a musician, Im so impressed w her ability to be handling multiple rhythms at once while singing her absolute heart out.
@@coffeecupwithtea i wish I could see her someday aaaaaa... But yeah I feel you, I was always aware of her doing something else, having some kind of musical intelligence, some different sense of it. I envy you seeing her live... one day I'll be back here to talk to you about my experience:)
Everyone in this video is absolutely fucking crushing it god daaaamn. Julia's record is maybe the most overlooked of the year. Stunning work all around.
This is remarkable music. i love that they do not rely on an image. Just pure, well practiced talent. The music industry can learn from bands like this.
+jason mastrandrea I know what you mean. This music does have an image, but it's very modest. It's the kind of stuff that will be remembered for many, many years.
What an amazing artist, just heard her for the first time some 4 days ago with a recent KEXP performance and now I'm totally hooked. Thanks Julia + band & KEXP.
Watched the tiny desk bit which was awful. This is a treat. Just discovered her music tonight and find much of the music enjoyable and explorative. The first song I listened to was the Barbara Lewis song Hello Strange. Binging tonight I guess. The last song is beautiful. Thanks KEXP.
+buzzzdsy you should check his work out. he's amazing at improvising with soundz. look up "Corey Fogel Ear meal" on youtube, it's a webcast where he performed.
Just made a polar journey here from Deaf Wish and was ready to drop a manhole cover on these proceedings, but stuck it out for the spacey viola solo, and glad I did!

+brindlebriar haha
the whole band looks like they haven`t had sex in ages.
I thought the same and looked him up after -- knitdrums.tumblr.com/biography.html
anaranjadisimo hahaha spot on!
See, it's your pre-puberty sense of humor that is causing serious cancer on YouTUbe. Shut da hell up, and listen 2 the music.

Baroque pop in the open pastures
You are a cheap and nasty foul mouth; ignorant, lacking in taste and discernment.
Her first KEXP visit is how I discovered Julia Holter...I cannot thank you enough!!!
Sea Calls Me Home 0:24
Silhouette 4:00
Feel You 14:35
Have You In My Wilderness 19:00
gracias
Fuck, she's brilliant. She just consistently churns out great music.
Here's another cheap and nasty foul mouth. Your sort are always drawn to this Holter drivvle.
Julia Holter is one of those artists whose music never fails to inspire me.
So good to listen to someone as talented as her being so humble and down to earth. A true artist. Good luck on your musical career!
that smile alone is an entry drug all of it's own
Have you in my wilderness is a masterpiece. Truly wonderful album. I dip in to it every few weeks. Never tire of it's unfolding magic.
Philistine. How about some Messiaen, Ravel or Debussy instead? You might find a masterpiece there, but certainly not amongst the Holter drivvle.
@@SimonSimon-rn3tm God you must be insufferable
Wonderful, reminds me of some of my favourite sounds of the late eighties and early nineties indie bands.
The scale variations are amazing, truly talented and original musicians.

Zack Fishley yea is that why nobody has written a comment in 2 years?
because people are ignorant and don't 'feel' talented musicians
That bass in Sea Calls Me Home...wow!
Twelve thumbs up for the audio engineer! This is ear candy!
What an amazing artist, just heard her for the first time some 4 days ago with a recent KEXP performance and now I'm totally hooked. Thanks Julia + band & KEXP.
I love her voice such original sound. Hope to see her next year in London.
Julia´s smile is gold
That part at 6:46 kills me every time, in the studio version too, it's SO GOOD
We need a full performance by the violinist. Well, I need one.
Her smile is so sharp.

Caution: drummer's happinness is contagious.
16:25 Lol
that drummer looks like a stoned bob ross and zach galifianakis combo. hahahaa. I laugh every time they cut to him. That nonchalant look. ahahah.
+buzzzdsy He reminds me of John Belushi in Animal House mode.

+buzzzdsy I came to the comments just to look for someone saying he looked like Zach Galifianakis and there it was :)
+buzzzdsy Marc Maron, sans glasses.

Deena you are amazing!
I like the mixing of these live tracks a lot more than the album's. Great artist and band.
im happy for this
I'm enjoying her latest album.
WOW ! Silhouette - that was amazing to watch performed without all the gizmos and gadgets of a producers studio.
I love Julia Holter! Great set!
Mixing is clean as always, danke!
Julia Holter have a beautiful voice.
Yes!! Julia is back (: Thanks KEXP, nice work, keep it up!
Just made a polar journey here from Deaf Wish and was ready to drop a manhole cover on these proceedings, but stuck it out for the spacey viola solo, and glad I did!
some of the cadences in her vocals remind me of Caroline from Chairlift's. especially those on the "Something" album
She could create some amazing stuff with Tim Smith of the Cardiacs (not that she doesn't already).
Julia Holter, je vous aime!
silhouette's performance was perfect
she has a good deep voice
Cómo me la perdí cuando vino a Montevideo a presentar este disco en 2016 😢
the drummer makes the whole thing awesome XD
Too bad the sax solo in Sea Calls Me Home was replaced by a viola solo. Other than that a great set of course.
WOAHH!!! That dude on violin was shreddin'!!!! Very awesome great!
there’s no violin here.woman on viola, man on double bass
Julia Holter linda demaizi! love you from Amazonia, sua linda.

Cello? That's a double bass.
this is unlike anything I've heard before
God I love her..
love the drummer
I wish the violin solo at the end was on the album
Love the look on the drummer's face
i get a bit of a wincing the night away era shins vibe from some of these songs.
also that smile! omg.
Julia Holter é foda.
Violin SOLO?!
What about it?
+PJ he likes it..
+PJ it's a Sax solo in the album
+Santiago Meza Yes, I know, it just seemed like he hadn't heard a viola solo in a song ever

He's so laid back they must have to check that he's still breathing.

You cheap and nasty foul mouths are two a penny: God help us and preserve us from these fools!
So, the lucidity is quite clear today. Anyone else?

Drummer isn't really that into it until about 8:25 when he and the bassist lose their shit.
