Great tutorial. I just fixed the infrared sensor on my stereo remote using your soldering tip! This girl can sit back in her hammock and relax now. Thank you!!
Great video - thanks! I just needed the first few minutes to give me the courage to pop my Rotel RR-AT92 remote and clean the power on-off button contacts and that did the trick!
Any remote control I have had that some buttons didn’t work can be tested with an AM Radio. Tune the radio to the lower end of the AM band to a blank spot with no sound. Point the control close to the radio and you will hear keys that work make a tone. Dead keys make no tone. This way of testing will tell you if the IR is working.
hey Tampatec, I just bought a lite-on vhs/dvd player-recorder, used. And of course, get it home and the DVD side is completely inop. Tray wont slide out. So I get to looking at it and it looks just like the DVD burner that goes into any homebuilt computer--IDE connection, 4 pin power plug little sound adapter plug....So, can I get on the internet and order up any similar lite-on dvd burner and gaboon it into this VCR/DVD Recorder and expect it to work? Or do I have to Do a'duct-tape thing?
Thoughts Tampatec... I have a wingard DTW converter box. One the remote the LED lights are only working on the "power" and "Menu" , not the "channels" or other basic usage the numbers... I have cleaned, even swapped out old remote pad, Cleaned... Unfortunately they do not make this remote any longer even with RCA behind it.. I have ordered rca remotes to no avail, no universal remote works either.. .. what do you think I can try next to get the "channels" to work...?
Good information, Tampatec! Have you ever done a video on replacing the infrared sensor in a TV? I've got an Olevia 32" LCD TV I found by my apartment. It works very nicely, except for the universal remote control does not work. I'm pretty sure it's the IR sensor inside the TV. I'm looking to replace the actual IR sensor and am looking for advice on how to do that. Thanks a lot, Tom
Wow very helpful, I was about to try to tear my remote apart. That camera trick worked . How did you figure that out? Mine got an unfortunate shower. I thought it was toast.
Thats cool to know about seeing the IR emitter lite. Also, I would say that after I made the solder and/or the wire bridge, I would coat it with my wife's nail polish--will act as insulation.
The black compound that forms the contact for the button on my remote is like E3 in form on the printed board and has rubbed of. Any way to replace this ?
hey man i'm having a prob. with my home theatre subwoofer,it is not taking input from its remote control unit only power button is working.Any suggestions tampatec????
Great Video, always wanted to try soldering on broken appliance circuit boards. Anyway, I've a remote with just a few buttons not working. I've cleaned the heck out of the contacts and circuit board with alcohol and even used an eraser (on the circuit board contacts, as suggested in another video, but alas, the afflicted buttons remain so, and I've studied the circuit connections between the button contacts on the board and see no cracks etc. Would it then be just a flaw in the chip looking apparatus on the board or have you any other suggestions, Saw another guy clean with WD-40 (this sounds crazy, (I think it was just the cleaning that helped and NOT the WD-40 (ya think?))).
I've a remote control which IR led always stays on. When I press a button the receiver doesn't work. I've tried to clean up the button contacts, I've changed batteries, but nothing!
I broke the battery part on my controller. One of the speakers for the magazine is missing that goes in the middle of the batteries and then the positive spiral is broken and missing from the board.
My Philips TV just entered sleep mode, since my remote is broken I decided to manually switch off and then back on again but my tv is still in sleep mode. Do you have any suggestions/ideas on how i can actually turn my tv back on from sleep mode without using the remote? Please reply soon if you have any. Thanks!
Also, good you remembered putting the IR DIODE back in the correct way....I would have forgotten because I am not yet into thinking of LEDs as DIODES..........duuhhh.
Actually my remote works as soon as i switch on the dth box and it goes off within a few seconds, kinda not able to get the problem need ua help regards !!!!
First of all, it is not a sensor. It's on sale nosing a light. It's transmitting TV codes via IR. You've gotta use DMM to check if the IR LED is not getting any power. If it's getting power and you see no IR light using digi cam, then you can conclude that the IR LED is busted. It's hardy that it is busted.
ok Don't laugh! stereo remote stopped working. so I saw ur vid and the i.r. was not working. Since I don't have a solder, I tried using my Hot Glue Gun! after 2 old remotes and 4+ hrs I got the light in.. remote didn't work, bc w no solder gun I didn't re-soder the 2 wires, just bent prongs up on back.SO I'm assuming I need to solder those 2 wires??? Also 1 of the green strips leading to those 2 wires peeled up! will that make contact again after soldered?? PLZ help!!! YOUR VID WAS GREAT!
ok thanks i have a cousin and he too has a mini system panasonic(not same type) and i take my remote controller away with me when I was to visit him my remote has did a operations i called him to take HIS remote and i will check that

How do you remove infrared sensor? It seems soldered.
That's an IR Emitter... The IR sensor or receiver is in the TV/XBox/Stereo/Etc...
