About this Istanbul vlog:
In this vlog, I set out to see some of the secrets and hidden gems of Istanbul, Türkiye. I spent a month in the largest Turkish city and had such an amazing time. Thanks to my research and fans reaching out in the comments and on Instagram, I was able to see Istanbul off the beaten path. Some of the unique sights in Istanbul that I was able to see include:
- The Museum of Innocence
- Tombili
- Yeni Valide Mosque
- Maiden’s tower
- Pera Palace Hotel
- Galata Bridge
- Nakkaş Carpet Shop
- Nakilbent Cistern
- Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque
- Walls of Constantinople
- Pierre Loti Hill
While exploring Istanbul’s secret spots, I got to eat some Turkish cuisine. I had Kuzu at Dürümzade, which was visited by Anthony Bourdain. I also ran into a lollipop maker in Üsküdar, who sold me a Osmanlı Macunu.
I hope this Türkiye vlog helped you learn about some of Istanbul’s secret treasures. If you plan to take a future trip, you can use this information to explore Istanbul like a local.
About the history of Istanbul:
Istanbul, a city steeped in history, straddles Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait. Its rich past dates back to around 660 BCE when it was founded as Byzantium. In 330 CE, Emperor Constantine the Great made it the capital of the Roman Empire, renaming it Constantinople. This ushered in a period of great wealth and influence, making it a pivotal center of the Byzantine Empire for over a thousand years. The city's significance continued in the Middle Ages as it became a focal point of the Crusades.
However, its most transformative moment came in 1453, when the Ottoman Turks, led by Sultan Mehmed II, conquered Constantinople, marking the end of the Byzantine Empire. Renamed Istanbul, it became the capital of the Ottoman Empire, a status it held until 1923. This era endowed the city with a rich architectural and cultural legacy, blending Eastern and Western influences, visible in landmarks like the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Today, Istanbul is a vibrant metropolis, echoing centuries of diverse cultural and historical influences.
About Istanbul tourism:
Istanbul, a mesmerizing blend of history and culture, is a top destination for travelers worldwide. Straddling Europe and Asia, it offers a unique experience where East meets West. Tourists are captivated by its historical sites, including the majestic Hagia Sophia, the splendid Blue Mosque, and the bustling Grand Bazaar. The Bosphorus Strait, offering scenic cruises, divides the city's European and Asian sides. Istanbul's rich culinary scene, ranging from street food to upscale restaurants, is a delight for food enthusiasts. The city's vibrant nightlife, diverse shopping options, and warm hospitality further enhance its appeal, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking a rich, cultural experience.

The fact that you called it Turkiye and the fact that you put north cyprus in the borders on the first map is amazing. You have won the hearts of many Turks!
Hahaha no problem!
Beautiful video. Thanks
@@minasumic2543 My pleasure!
@@TravelLordOnLoc really? shame on you!!
@@Chloe-hu9tf It's difficult as an outsider to come into a country and decide their borders and influence. There are a lot of disputed territories, regions and borders in the world that people don't agree with. When I document a country at a specific time in history, I've decided to show the borders and territories that reflect the beliefs of that country at that time.
I love istanbul!!!🇹🇹🇹🇷
Me too! Hahaha
I was study in Istanbul university 2015-2017. My favorite city ever . I wish I could visit next year again . Hello from Norway ❤
Hello! I hope you can come back and visit!
There are not many RUclipsrs who show the wonderful historical city of Istanbul from this side, I am impressed with your site, keep it up my friend 🇹🇷
Thank you for the compliment!
Thank you for making relaxing and informative videos. We appreciate non-dramatic, non click bait content.
Glad you like them! I am also a fan of videos like that haha
Precious people like you are interested in Turkish culture. Thanks for the this nice video 💓 Istanbul is truly a beautiful city, im a glad i was born here 💓.

I just started 3-4 months ago so we’ll see what happens in the future! I appreciate it though!
actually thank you very much for your research-filled and informative video, tourists usually travel without doing such deep research that you do, I am sure that knowing these infos it becomes even more fascinating to visit a city full of secrets like Istanbul
ps: there is a turkish series called "Midnight at the Pera Palace" at netflix, about Agatha Christie lover journalist's while doing research on the agatha accidentally travels back in time to 1919 Istanbul, it's a recommendation from me😊
Oh nice! That would be great to watch after being there. Thanks for the suggestion!
Yes Midnight at Pera Palace is great
You are one of the best storytellers I have ever seen. There is research and labor in what you do. This is what it means to visit a city by doing it justice
Thank you for the compliment! I do my best!
After your last video, I became a subscriber. You have a unique way of showcasing your findings and you present my native country, Turkiye, in such a positive manner. It is clear that you do intense research before sharing your videos. Your respectful approach certainly won my heart. Thank you for your due diligence 👏👏 🇹🇷
P.S. I read My Name is Red many years ago and I think I'm going to read it again after hearing you bring it up here.
Thank you again for all that you do! I can't wait to watch all of your videos.
Thank you! I appreciate that! I should reread it too!
@@TravelLordOnLoc curious… Turks are known to be very patriotic. Do get that sense while visiting Turkiye? You travel all over the world and can make comparisons hence my curiosity 😊

I love this channel. It has a sincere narrative style and quality videos. It was a very kind gesture of him to share our sadness about this issue in his video commemorating Atatürk. Now I recommend this channel to everyone I know. As the poet said: "If you are friends with the Turks, they will also be friends with you and always support you."
Glad you like it! Thanks for passing it on!
Greetings from Ankara
Greetings! I already shot another video about Ankara. Stay tuned!

I was very impressed that you experienced emotional moments in your Atatürk commemoration day video. It is very nice to see sincere people like you in our country. Thank you for the Istanbul video.

I'm 65 yo. and living outside of Türkiye since when I was 17 yo. I was born in Üsküdar. You showed where I used to play and swim in my childhood. Thank you for making video on different perspective of view.

I've been to this beautiful city several times and I still cannot frt enough of it
Yeah it’s so big there’s always more to see!
İstanbul was always beautiful,it is still beautiful and it will be the most beautiful..thank you very much for your videos describing our country.❤
Thank you very much!
Hello my friend, first of all, I would like to thank you for introducing Istanbul to people who live in various countries around the world and even if they want to come, they cannot come, and for showing them a little bit of this magnificent city.
Tourists can generally see certain parts of Istanbul, such as Istiklal Street, Sultan Ahmed Square Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern and Galata Tower, but rest assured, there are places as beautiful as these places I mentioned, but I would like to draw special attention to Üsküdar district, which is not well known, I will write a few districts, Kuzguncuk, Beylerbeyi. ,Çengenköy, Kandilli, Beykoz district is another beautiful one, Kadıköy district has a more modern and secular structure, fashion district, Kalamış district, Bağdat street and of course Prince Islands, why not take a more in-depth tour of the islands district :)Love and greetings to all humanity from Istanbul..
Thanks for the info! It’s such a big city I couldn’t get to every place. Of course I have more to explore later
Thank you for showing more than the tourist sites in istanbul. It’s very obvious you’ve done a lot of research into it….what the majority of RUclipsrs don’t do. I love learning about a countries history before I visit because I want to see more than the tourist site and restaurants. There’s so much more to a country or city to see and do. Istanbul is a lot more modern than most non-Turks realize.
Yeah I knew there were already too many videos on the obvious locations. I’m glad you liked it!
Lived in the hood near Orhan Pamuk’s museum 10 years great to see your footage. Returned for a visit this year
I like that area! The Museum of Innocence was pretty great also. Finally got around to finishing the book and checking it out
Can’t wait!
Enjoy!
12:20 I noticed a sign at Dürümzade, the best kebab you had. It says "Dikkat. Aliskanlik yapabilir" means "Attention. It can be addictive". Seems like they were right.😂
Loves from Los Angeles!
Hahaha yes, they are! Thanks for watching!

I like your videos very much. One of the things I should say I really appreciate is that you do your research carefully before seeing the places you will visit. Istanbul is a truly eye-catching, legendary city with its history and beauty. Thanks again for the video.
Thanks for that! There’s so much to see in Istanbul!
I don't usually like and comment but I wanted to do it for this video, because your effort and sensitivity for certain areas deserves appraisal. Great video, thank you.

Hello! Thanks for watching!
I was born in Istanbul but live in the capital now for almost 2 decades, I think istanbul is way too crowded for my taste. However i find it amazing many everyday people take ferries to go to work just.. casually.

I highly recommend you to visit the İstanbul Modern Art Museum at Karaköy, where you can find contemporary art pieces from Turkish and foreign artists. Besides, the museum building itself and its garden are worth to see.

@@MuratTosunoglu1973 Yeah, it's going well! Thanks to you!
We would be happy to welcome you to our country. We have no problem with tourists. Unfortunately, it is said that Turks are racist towards Arabs But the reason why we are so racist is that, as you see in the video, people coming as refugees harm the general appearance and culture of the city. That's not the only problem, he must be dirty, work as a cheap worker and try to get ahead of our tradesmen, among other reasons.I would like to say this to my future friends: Turks are not racist, they just try to protect their country against people who harm them. For future guests, please be careful with taxi drivers; if they realize you are a tourist, they may try to deceive you. That's all I have to say, the video was very nice, I enjoyed watching it, thank you.
Thanks for sharing! I’m glad you liked this video! And I am always careful in every country hahaha
What about your racism towards the Armenians, Assyrian, Greeks in turkey ??? What have those races done towards the Muslim turkish comunity can you explain . And don't talk bullshit I am from Istanbul as an Armenian parents from diyarbakir , cmon einstein explain yourself.
