Trans-Am's TA1 class is effectively just a "what if IMSA GTO never ended and using NASCAR Cup Series engines". All road courses too. Hell there are a few vids on here were some of the TA1s sound like like a NASCAR V8 and a JUDD V8 had a love child.
The headers alone are works of art! BEAUTIFUL machine! That last blast around the final corner and on across the finish line to pick up any fractions of a second is EPIC!
All American v8s should sound like this. Always loved the b6 and the b7 is pretty close to that. What happened after the finish line was surprising and nerve wracking!😮
Top-level NASCAR engines are some of the most unhinged racing engines on the planet when they don't have any restrictors on them. What's scarier is this is a fairly old engine design, the current equivalent to this engine, the R07, is easily capable of 900+ horsepower and 10k RPM for short runs. At those levels, the piston speeds actually exceed what you find in F1.
@@replynotificationsdisabled Even so, that's a bigger, heavier piston moving at insane velocities. The fact that those engines can hold together as long as they do at sustained WOT is staggering.
That’s really not surprising given they have made high reving v8 nascar motors for decades? Heck they have built over 10,000 rpm motors but rules limited them to 9500 rpm. In 60s there were nascar motors reliably turning over 7500 rpm.
If you go to Gatebil Rudskogen you will be able to see him race in the Gatebil Extreme series, the track is not too far from Oslo. The hillclimb event is pretty far away but you could do a quick trip up there by plane to see it, it's an awesome event.

I've also been sitting here playing this from start to finish over and over again because of 1. The sound and 2. The sheer brutality of this monster! This thing looks like a handful of handfuls!
@@mojitocod Nascar engines have been cross plane for ages and rev to the moon no problem, several people have managed to rev both the old Chevy small blocks and the modern LS engines to 10k+ with cross plane cranks.
that thing must be terrifying to drive and you approached the finish line brutally floating...and that crazy save at the end looked absolutely calm from onboard, was it the same scene? never saw a dyno like that also
haha, yes. 1980's Corvette GTP car, check it out. There were also March GTP cars powered by Chevy engines. The good old days. McLaren C8 group C had a Chevy engine.
Over FOUR THOUSAND POUNDS of downforce at less than 140mph? That's absolutely nuts. That's well beyond F1 territory, and yet with LMP1 levels of weight and F1 levels of power.
Holy shit I want one!!!!! It Handel's like it's on rails!!!❤❤❤ and the grip! Like wtf over love it.... want a drive who is fully committed and just stands on that skinny petal!

5861cc/5.9L/358ci unless the bore and stroke have been changed, also the block is made out of compressed graphite iron which is stronger and lighter than cast iron.
IIRC they're only using blocks with compacted graphite iron linings, since generally speaking the cylinders will take an absolute beating running at 9k RPM all day.
Yup.. Many GM guys think since its an SBe.. Its a Chevy motor.. In reality maby many ve no idea how much more has gone into it to make it this B7 motor and how much of Chevrolet is there n that design
Sb2.2 sounds great with equal length headers. The boom tubes nascar uses makes them sound more raspy. Only in hill climb can you see a man build such a purposeful machine to beat a rally champion
This engine actually sounds better than most of the Nascar V8s I've been around, most likely due to better headers dumping into short runners. Generally, a 'Nascar V8' is a very known quantity until you get into all of the different classes that run a V8, in which case, you may end up with a retired main series Cup unit or one from a feeder series which is slightly better tuned than a street unit.
@@brunomanco7529 That's true to some extent while in motion, but while stationary on the dyno for example, most of the tone of an engine comes through the header profile (and the valve timing, naturally). The quick-revving nature is mostly down to crank style.
Looks like a decent car...Quirky design though...Exhaust silencers mounted to rear wing? Compact roll cage full of strong diagonals...with a vertical tube in middle of screen, directly in drivers eye line?
Have a look at TA1 cars, it's essentially this type of engine in a 2,800lbs chassis with fairly low downforce and zero driver aids. There's crazy, and then there's watching the back end of one of those things trying to step out at part throttle and 120mph off the final corner of the Indianapolis road course.
The exhaust manifold is a work of art.😍
Good to hear🤘🏼 Thank you
Couldn't agree more... went back and forth the rev sound, and the part where the manifold shows idk how many times!
What a beast! This thing is an amazing fusion of American V8 muscle and European precision engineering! I love it!
American engineering is also precise tho, they have a space program and the best military weapons.
g5084 yeah of course! It's just more European here 😁
Even more amazing is that it appears the fuel is being punched down the throat of that hi-rise intake manifold with a carburetor !
A wonderful British and US union of engineering
@mikestevens5512 quite incorrect. It was about changing the tolerances to suit us machinery.

It sounds crap for a NASCAR engine in realty, sounds like an average LS.
@markholroyde9412 the nascar sound has alot to do with the boom tube exhaust they use. Looks equal length header here and sounds alot smoother
@@markholroyde9412 Honestly, it didn't sound too much different from the X-pipes they used to use regularly on the plate tracks.
In the car it looked so tame
How do we find more info on the engine?
Oh man the old small block Chevy, SB2 style, I think the best engine to ever compete in NASCAR.
It's like an ultima gtr that started juicing in gradeschool. That thing is a BEAST.
🤣
I think the stealth was originally based on an ultima, obviously it’s come on a bit since then
I have a friend that is finishing up his second Ultima GT . They are beasts for sure .
What a beast of a car, and the sound is something else!
May those roaring engines and sounds stay on earth for eternity and let electronic nightmares have an end right now.
