Crown Vic w/muffler delete = Shelby 500 Cobra
Crown Vic w/ Cat. delete = 1960s muscle car
My 2009 crown vic with mufflers deleted I bought two weeks ago really rumbles and roars almost like an old muscle car. I think it took away some of torc for stop and go city driving, but you know it runs good starting right up without pressing gas pedal, idling consistently, smooth sound when you open the hood to listen to engine, and not hesitating when you step into it.
@@TUBESPECIFIC1 Aw man, if you REALLY want to get serious and piss people off in your neighborhood, X-pipe and dual cherry bombs or flowmaster 40s
@@wontondragon7139 Wow, that would rumble loud like a gigantic motorized farting machine. You can have anything like that in the city, but probably not a small town. Lots of people in the metro I live in have really loud exhaust going on for I hear it all the time every day and evening. Mine is nothing close to being the loudest, but could catch flak in a small town, particularly in the Midwest such as Missouri if I go there.

Mine has all 4 cats deleted with stock mufflers. It sounds basically stock at idle. It has a weird drone during normal acceleration. It sounds pretty good at wide open throttle. I am watching all of these old videos trying to decide what I want to do to it. I am torn between replacing the stock mufflers with either straight pipes or glass packs, or possibly just putting glass packs before the stock mufflers to try to get rid of the drone.
Also, to get rid of the check engine light, I used the spark plug non-fouler trick. Since I didnt have the bungs for the O2 sensors anymore, I got a friend to drill into the pipes and just weld the inner non-fouler in to use as a bung. It worked perfect. I've driven it about 6,000 miles since, still no check engine light.
When I was 16 or 17 I just undid the bolts on the flanges after the cats on my 95 Grand Marquis. Sounded like a absolute beast!

Jeffery McDonald the best cars ive owned like 3 and will own more
I love my crown victoria P71 the 98-04 had lower HP than the 05-11 but it wasn’t electric throttle body so you can hook up basically all the mustang GT parts of the same year
@@RoGuExPaNcAkE Mustang GT parts of the same year will fit a Crown Vic? That's kind of interesting where a hybrid car could be developed or a budget GT that isn't as styling. I'm on my 3rd Crown Vic and see them as one of the best American made from a mechanical and heavy workhorse perspective making it a truck with a car body though quite a bit better than the Ranger. 2012 is the last year for them, but they'll be around a while longer. The first two I had still ran good when I sold them. A 91 and a 98. It's a bit nicer people don't think it's a cop as much now as they used to upon seeing it for LEO's use several other different cars and trucks now. This one I bought recently is a 2009 old TSA K9 airport dog carrier so it doesn't have backseat. Going to remove cage parts in windows to just have the flat hard floor in back. Hard to see out for backing, but has camera and in dash video screen.
If it's not an actual cold start it's just a start lol
Back to the horse.
Back when i drove my p71 i put some washers between the mufflers and rode around like the baddest mf till i sold her
Itz_Clemii where did you place the washers exactly?
he puts multiple washers stacked up between the muffler and the pipe, makes a gap in the exhaust which makes it louder.
But people in Pennsylvania do it anyways
Holy shit that made me laugh so hard. I love that you left that in I hope that's your old lady filming
My next car is deff gonna be a crown Vic
Killer Whale sounds badass
It's even better in person.
Little confused on the muffler delete affecting emissions. I've owned 3 cars all with muffler deletes at some point and I've done muffler deletes on 5 cars in total, never affected emissions once.
Mine passed emission test with mufflers deleted. They hook a computer cable under the dash now where as years ago it was a tailpipe funnel cone smoke reader test really hard for anything mufflers deleted or old to pass. I guess the emissions test today reads how the motor is running and not what's coming out the tail pipes so you pass if it's running well.
You won't throw a CEL, but up here in NY, it's a visual and sound check. If they see or hear a delete, they can fail you. Shitty, especially when a delete on these cars is fairly quiet
I did a muffler delete on mine (2011). Sounded decent, but I regretted it and had to have somebody weld the mufflers back on lol.

Please do a two-step system on one of these cars I want to see how it's done and how it sounds
Robert Frickey why would you do two step on one of these?
I think the Killer Whale sounds slightly better than the HoboCop.
I love the sound of a small V8 with modified exhaust. They ALWAYS sound angry.
My P71 is rotting away, and will eventually become parts for my slightly older Grand Marquis. I'm keeping the CV in good mechanical condition so everything will be usable when a door finally falls off.
The first thing that will be used is the suspension. That'll change the Mercury's whole attitude on the curves. Although I have to say that for a luxury car, the Merc does handle better than most older 2 ton cars.
But the P71 handles better than some sports cars that I've driven.
And they're both completely stable near a crowd, unlike a Mustang.
If I were to switch to a manual transmission, what would you recommend, and can I reprogram the engine computer for it, or do I need to switch computers as well?
A muffler delete won't fail emissions as far as I know. All they do is muffle the sound. It doesn't remove pollutants
and does the check engine light come on with a moffler delete?
@@Sully9549 no it shouldn't
My marauder has the muffler delete and the idle was awesome but highway drone was terrible. I love the killer whale cat delete!!! Sounds great.
Does the cat delete have drone as well or does the muffler take care of most of it?
I’m actually considering a muffler swap with some $25 JEGS glasspacks.
I'd love to own a Panther car, hopefully one that isn't a retired cop car or limo/taxi those engines have a lot of idling hours on them which are not reflected on the odometer. Something like the Mercury Grand Marquis with a Borla catback system and a touch of pinstriping.
Just got a grand marquis today 500$ minor body damage and only 100k miles
Me personally have a cat delete and connected a Y pip to it and get it 4 inches after the two pipes connect and it sounds very clean and still has bottom end torque
Can't say "freight" but the southern / Texas twang accent is spot on 👌 haha nice!
My heart sez mufflers delete, my groin sez rear cats delete...simply put, my 96 MGM is not subject to inspection in my Canadian province, so two questions...which of the the two is more personally enjoyable for you? from a daily driver city point of view? 2nd, which would you pick if you had to do a highway “drone” once a month at 70mph for 10 hours? I look forward to your thoughts...
Haha! Nice! That horse was like “255 horses? Meh! Ima just gonna stand here all un impressed!
I did the muffler delete to my crown Victoria and damn it sounds sweet!
Did u weld pipe back on to the rear end?
Did u ?
Wait so does removing the rear cats make it slower or faster, and which one is louder, rear cats or muffler?
So one car has a muffler delete only, and the other has the secondary cats and mufflers deleted?
My favorite of the 2, if you leave the 4.6 stock or almost stock, is the muffler delete.
Favorite overall, is the Town Car with the factory tailpipe resonators. And instead of a muffler delete, use Dynomax Bullets, so all together it makes a super deep, toned sound and no drone at all. You can cruise all day on the highway at any speed and you'll barely hear it.
Speaking from experience? That’s the exact system I was thinking of going with on my 03 town car
@@ryanlambert1710 I had a Town Car with single exhaust that I converted to duals and the tailpipes I bought didn't have the resonators like the stock ones did, so mine was just pipe after the stock cats. It was pretty loud and aggressive, not bad enough that I needed mufflers but the sound didn't fit a luxury car (a fairy slow one anyways). I never ran any mufflers/resonators on mine but I imagine they would've just made it deeper and less raspy.
If you don't have stock tailpipe resonators, I think a good muffler like a Magnaflow Magnapack (or something similar) would achieve the same affect.
That said, the rear cat delete would sound much better with a real muffler, not just straight pipes after.
Why not both🤷🏻♂️
How about removing all 4 cats and delete the muffler but keep the stock exhaust pipe size
Removing all 4 cats not good. It will smell very bad
Complete straight pipe with 2" exhaust pipe will be loud and crackly, not that good of a tone. You'd need some mufflers like short Magnaflows for a deep, toned sound.
Did you put straight pipe in where the cats go?
Or if you want a proper running car, and have a first Gen crown vic lx luxury cruiser. You could always keep in nice sounding and looking with a proper exhaust. You can get the kits for better flowing cats, and mufflers for cheaper. But all this will do. Is screw with the efi. And lead to premature permanent limp mode. And as you can see, his check engine lights appear to be on as the engine isn't reading proper back pressure from the proper exhaust.
Killer Whale sounds better. I made my Lincoln Town Car duel exaust and put Flowmaster mufflers on it. Sounds mean now.
The Town Car 4.6 has resonators in the factory tailpipes. So it's not quite as loud as a Crown Vic/Grand Marquis with a muffler delete.
I think a Town Car with the stock exhaust and Dynomax Bullets sounds fantastic. The Bullets are like high flow, high quality glasspacks or resonators. So with 4 cats, and basically 4 resonators, it has a real deep, toned sound. Deep and quiet at idle and cruising, but gets loud at full throttle.
I have a 2005 P71 ....... Muffler Delete or Flowmaster 44s?
GaugezPup definitely get flow master super 10s. 44s are still quiet. And delete your resanator
I did this yesterday to my 07 Crown Vic and the check engine light has been on ever since.
Should of just gutted the cats
Did u chop off the rear o2 sensor as well? Or cut it off too close to the sensor?
Brandon Markowitz I did cut pretty close to the sensor. Maybe that’s why it’s still on.
i see you have that airbag beep also, would love to see a video on how to fix it, i cant really find anything on it
I live in Atlanta Georgia and I have straight pipes
How u passing emissions
I live in Arizona and my car is registered up north where I don’t have to do emissions. So my question is what if I cut the cats and keep the stock muffler what would that sound like or how would it effect the car or what do you recommend? I’ve got a 2001 grand marquis. 4.6 2v obviously. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
*laughs in sbc 400 with full long tube headers and straight dumps out the fender
I was getting excited to do my crown Victoria just like that. but
when you mention California. I said damm
I am in a place where my cats are bad on my 2010 Lincoln Town Car Executive L. so I am spending the next 2 months trying to decide to replace or delete. But will say listening to the muffler delete it’s more mannered less aggressive in pitch but more mannered. I’ve driven my 91 Lincoln Town Car Executive with no cats and no muffler it was honest to god so damn loud basically headers status I had friend messaging me at 2am that they could hear my engine 3-4 miles away which is crazy the cats off is simply raw V8 muscle in my opinion but for me personally I do like the muffler delete better.
Looking to do a secondary cat delete on my vic. What size pipe is it?
Where you guys at in tn? We just got some land south of cookeville. Great video BTW. I think I will be doing cat delete with high flow muffler, what do you think?
Is the check engine light from the muffler delete?
Both cars are dope. Thanks bro
Do these methods make the check engine light come on or mess up emissions
Taking of the cats does bro, you'll fail emissions so wait till you get a smog check then your good for 2 years
In my county here in Ca you need to smog once then you don't need to smog it again till you sell it. My grand marquis had a cat delete when I bought it, got them welded on for smog, then got them taken off again. True dual into a X pipe with 2 magnaflow straight through mufflers. Sounds loud and mean.
@@yungalan6186 incorrect removing after cats don't upset the o2 readings
7:37 That horse is enjoying it
What I plan to do to my 07 P74 is rear cat delete, Borla Catback, Cobra 4v heads and intake manifold, PCM chip, cold air intake, interceptor suspension and regear the diff. Thought about making it a Roush Cobra clone or do a Coyote 5.0 swap, but this would turn heads as well.
Converting a 2v to a 4v can be done but it is almost definitely going to be harder than an engine swap lol. Much easier and cheaper to swap in a 4v from a mark viii or something but that's just my opinion.
FOR LEGAL REASONS EVERYONE READ THIS!!
There are standard tests that are performed by the inspection team when you get in trouble for loud exhaust. The methods used in this video for testing do not follow testing protocol at all. Mr Random, this is not an attack at you, because this is not very common knowledge, however, if you are going to modify your exhaust and want to check if it passes regulations, look into the specific standardized protocol for your state's vehicle exhaust sound level regulations.
In accordance with the Society of Auto Engineers Standard J1169 test for excessive exhaust noise, the test should be conducted as follows:
1) Test must be done outdoors with no sound reflective surfaces within a 10 ft radius of the car
2) Mic Placement: 20 in. behind your exhaust pipe opening, at the same height as the exhaust pipe opening, parallel to the ground, and offset about 45 degrees to the left or right of the exhaust pipe opening.
3) Put the car in Neutral
4) Rev the engine to 3/4 of your car's max RPM and take the sound measurement
In the state of California, your car's exhaust can not exceed 95 dB(A) when tested with this procedure.
Happy modding, friends
PS
Awesome video btw
Also did you ever finish supercharging that one vic?? Im trying to supercharge my P71 next summer in addition to a bunch of other planned projects on it and have been eagerly waiting to see how yours comes out!

@@T0astedR0asted not snitchin, letting you guys know how to properly check your exhaust sound so that you know if you're legal or not when you go to mod your exhaust, that way you don't test the wrong way and think you're legal even though you might not be

To 2nd...sorry I didn’t add to 1st reaction! Do either the muffler delete &/or the rear cats delete mess with driveablity a previously (mostly) enjoyable car to drive, or more importantly trigger a CEL? Thx again.
Why would a muffler delete fail emissions?
I did cheap glass packs same length as stock muffler. Solid steel wire feeder to put it back together. Still got the cats but one is throwing an efficiency code. Should just take em out.
Mine came with the front cats cut off wish it was the backs
I've gotten to see the killer whale in person and yes it's quite loud.
How loud is that inside the car
If it's got a V8... after the catilitic converters the two 2.5" pipes go to a Y not y or X... from the Y just past the tail of the transmission a 2.5"x28" glass pack bolts to the Y... from the glass pack a 2.5" pipe passes to the rear axle then another Y that then goes to a set of magnum flow mufflers. best $500 exaust.
If the car has been idling for a bit already, it no longer is a cold start. Cold start is the first crank of the day.
Summit racing x pipes are cheap too if your looking to just dump the midpipe.

Muffler delete sounds decent on a Vic. But the car runs funny afterwards. Makes it slower and burn more gas. You lose to much back pressure. Just delete resonators, and put a single chamber muffler on it. It’s not like it’s a mustang fr or charger scat pack. Pipes only 2.5. Not 3. Engine not the most powerful. So don’t expect to much. And they don’t have that many full exhaust u can use. Like the borla extreme. That shit on a Mustang is nuts.
