I was surprised but when I compared them I prefer the Ginault. The Tudor’s movement is technically superior but not in everyday use, the design is better looking/equally finished on the Ginault and it’s not overly thick like the Tudor. It really is a winner, so much do that I’ve bought two, the no date in this video and the date/cyclops variant.
I like things better about both watches, but the Ginault just steals my heart. By far, the most comfortable watch on wrist that I own. Superb watch the Ginault.
I have the Blue Black Bay 58, fantastic watch. I have the Silent Service on the way. I'm so excited for the Ginault! I hope it in the steel doesn't disappoint!
I do as well. mine should be here by Friday is what I was told. it was suppose to be here for fathers day as a present for me from my wife but didn't get finished in time. Oh well, cant wait to get it, I would rather wait and watch the be perfect then rush the process...
@tp8382 I'm actually more excited for the Silent Service to arrive than I was getting the 58. Sorry it didn't get there for Father's day, but you have a keeper for a wife!! I ordered mine the 13th of May, hoping to hear soon.
@@curtisbrown7991 After 2 years of Begging my wife she also got me the Omega Speedmaster Professional sapphire sandwich edition for Christmas!!! I couldn't believe it for a few seconds, thought I was dreaming!! LOL> That Omega is on HELL of a watch!!, I love it!!!
Which do you think has better finished indices and hands? Does the Tudor also have rhodium plated hands? Does the BB58 have AR undercoating? Which do you think has better lume?
The BB58 has gilt hands and indicies, so I am going to say that they are not rhodium plated. Yes, the BB58 has AR coating applied to the sapphire crystal. Lume and finishing is not all that important to me, but I would say that they are closely matched in that area.
@@WrongTimeWatch Sorry, I was referring to the blue BB58. Have you had any issues with the QC on Tudor? I've heard the movement could stop at times...worried about that.
Both are great watches, however people knocking the tudor down to make themselves feel better about buying the ginault isn't okay, same goes for people knocking the ginault down to make themselves feel better about buying the tudor. If I had the budget for both, I'd probably get the tudor just because I like it better. If I had a lot of extra money on the side, I'd get the ginault also.
Well said. I surely don't need both of these watches, but I can't bring myself to sell either of them. If my BB58 had on the fly adjustment for the bracelet clasp, I'd be more likely to sell the Silent Service.
@@WrongTimeWatch I’m not even sure the Tudor is 1.5x the watch. Having said that your Ginault looks pretty beat up, I’m guessing it was used? Neither of my Silent Services have any back play on the bezel or any crown wobble.
Wait you compared the closing of the clasp on the Ginault while on your wrist and then you used both hands to close the clasp on the BB. That isnt the same comparison. One hand close vs two. There are other little things too like that
I can create a shorts video closing each clasp with one finger if you like. The Ginault clasp is definitely harder to close, and is not as smooth. The ceramic ball bearings on the Tudor do an amazing job. Is that worth 3x the price though? Well probably not.
It's funny, but my original Ginault Ocean Rover is far more similar to the aluminum bezel Tudor. The biggest visible differences being the OR has a crown guard, red second hand, a sword style hour hand, no red around the lume pip and distinct sand lume indices. The 70 hour power reserve is the only significant advantage to the Tudor imo. My OR is well within + or - 2 seconds a day accuracy and its glide lock clasp works flawlessly after at least 7 years of ownership. The bezel and indices of the Silent Service just proves that Ginault doesn't want a true homage to the Tudor or the Submariner.
I would love the looks of the Ginault if the bezel was a bit smoother looking and not so jagged . The hand set as well, I dont care for the hour hand on it. Mabey something like oris aquis hands would look good with the indices
In person the effect is more sparkly than jagged. It's hard to see that on camera because you only get the information from a single 2D plane. Each of your eyes sees each edge from different angles and even though they look squared on camera they're actually triangular on the side and have 2 exposed faces. The inner grooves are also triangular and have a slightly less polished finish that adds to the variance in reflectiveness. This lends the watch sort of like the effect you get when looking at a precious stone. Each edge reflects a little differently across the bezel and it's honestly a very refined look. You can tell they really thought about this a lot. It's VERY blingy in person 😂 I got mine last week and I've honestly not been able to take it off 😅
Ive got a bb , the 41mm s and g . It costs nearly 5k now in uk. The movement is incredibly accurate by anyones standard. That ginault clarity is superb on the dial, and the watch looks amazing for around 1.5 k . It also looks the more expensive watch imo. The lines of text is too much though and the bezel design is a bit meeeh !!! I wasnt blown away by my bb , at first, but over time , its grown on me, because its quite subtle. The ginault looks flashier , like the rolex sub , and that can be a good thing , but over time , i think you could get bored with it. Personally i would buy a used bb , than a new ginault , because if you pay 2k for one , it will probably hold its value over time . While the ginault is a fantastic watch for the money , the tudor is a massive brand now , and one thats likely to grow more popular, as time goes on . If your on a budget just get a san martin or seesturn , as they are fantastic for little money, if you want that look. Tudor were considered a poor mans rolex, but that perception has changed now , and their designs , are their own thing now. With rolex and omega starting to price themselves out of the market for most people , i can only see tudor getting stronger as a brand.
I agree with your assessment. I will likely be selling the Ginault SS, and I will be keeping my BB58. The bracelet on the Ginault is better, but the bezel of the ginault turns me off, also it feels like too much of a homage to the Submariner. That is a good point about the San Martin. I might have to pick one up just to compare to the Ginaul SS.
@@WrongTimeWatch Thats true, i may actually end up buying the ginault since there’s a lot of watchmaker that is willing to service and it cost about $800 used. I’m just going to save up for a Rolex after that
Not sure what the point of this video is. You could have compared either watch to any other watch and arrived at the same conclusions - there are similarities and differences. Ok then.
I for one, loved seeing them together. And can't you compare any watch to any watch? Why not these two? I actually like the style, real life opinions of someone who owns them and then just presenting them to us to see. For rolex guys, Tudor probably seems second class. And I imagine the majority of people if they were given the choice, would take Tudor over Ginault. For some of us, seeing the Ginault compared to Tudor, even knowing it may not be as good, feels nice. For a lot of us, spending what we spend on Ginault....is a huge luxury. I enjoyed the video.
These two watches aren't really in the same league. The BB is a Swiss Made piece from a Rolex sub-brand with an in-house Swiss movement that is COSC certified and has a 70 hour power reserve. The Ginault is a watch made with Chinese parts from a company with murky, if not blatantly false origin claims, with a Chinese clone of an ETA 2824-2, complete with its known design benefits and drawbacks.
I know that a lot of folks are fans of the Ginault watches, and some folks are totally against them. I am undecided where I fall with the watch, but I plan to sell it soon. I have heard about their shady past, but I did not realize that the movement is a Chinese clone of the 2824.
Lmao. It uses a Swiss Sellita SW200-1 regulated by Ginault for 6 weeks. COSC and Swiss Made doesn't carry that much weight nowadays. You can get a swiss made COSC Tissot for $400. I don't like long power reserves because I rotate with other watches and I don't want them running and wearing down an extra day or two in the watch box after putting away. The Ginault uses some "chinese" parts, and there's nothing murky or false about the Ginault origins. The owner "John" used to create the best replica Rolex subs under the name TC, nothing murky about that.
@@WrongTimeWatch It's NOT a chinese clone of the 2824. It's a swiss Sellita SW200-1. Ginault used to use A2824 (chinese) in their previous models years ago. Not anymore.
