      EckhartsLadder I think the Rebel Alliance had the best navy. Let's look at their fighters: The X-Wing was fast, thin and good-looking, had four canons and turned easyly. The Y-Wing was already used by the Republic. That shouts out, that the Rebels learned from the Republic's mistakes and modified it. They were also fast and had two rapid fire cannons. "Rebels" shows us the B-Wing so powerful, we don't even have to talk about it. Finally the A-Wing: It was literally the fastest starfighter in the universe and we saw that it's a good suicide ship. It had decent firepower and yeah... Get rekt other navys!! And I also wanna say, that the Hammerhead Corvette was the yolo-est ship ever. It pushed a Star Destroyer into a Star Destroyer!!
      Do you believe me now?

    Vulture Droids are the best! Cheap so when even the best pilots can take out a few at a time a 1v5 with the droids working together should be able to take them down... Unless you have plot armour.

    • @cactusman1771
      @cactusman1771 6 лет назад +15

      Another perk is you could have the vultures "manned" remotely so if the ship goes down the pilot gets a new one. Or if disconnected from the pilot they go back to cpu controlled.

    • @harrybrohan4602
      @harrybrohan4602 6 лет назад +26

      What?
      In a 1o1 a Vultur Droid is better!
      Only flaws:
      -No Schield (like the Tie)
      -less fuel
      -lack of kreativity
      -no Hyperdrive (like the Tie)
      That’s what it makes better the a Tie:
      -no pilot required (better maneuverability)
      -a smaller target
      -Buzz Droid Rockets
      -light speed communication
      -all time ready for kamikaze missions
      -it can support on ground with his legs
      -kompakt

    • @ianli3027

      The Vulture Droid had twin blaster cannons, 2 energy torpedo launchers, and Buzz droid missile launchers, while the TIE fighter only had 2 laser cannons. Vulture droid has armament far more superior than the standard TIE fighter.

    I have no doubt that the CIS would have won the clone wars had Palpatine been eliminated or if order 66 had failed. Their navy, generals and tactics were superior to the republic in many ways and the fact that they were far smaller in size compared to the republic speaks volumes for how long they managed to survive the war.

    • @JurassicReptile
      @JurassicReptile 6 лет назад +21

      I agree. despite the fact a basic B1 (the mascot of the army) was pretty dim I think a majority of the droids they made were very effective war machines especially in space

    • @redeye4516
      @redeye4516 6 лет назад +46

      +Jurassic Reptile I have to disagree with your assessment of the B1. While they were quite dim, they were not ineffective war machines when used properly. The truth of the matter is simply that B1s were never meant to be superior to organic soldiers in a one on one fight. Their main advantage was numbers. Like the vulture droid, the B1 is designed to overwhelm the enemy with massive forces. And the B1 served this role well. They were cheap and easy to manufacture, meaning many could be made at a smaller price. The same goes for their blasters, which didn't need very good cooling systems since they were never intended to be used for organics. So long as the heat didn't melt metal, the sub-par cooling system was perfect, as it was the cheaper option.
      It's said that for every Clone of the Republic, there were at least 10 B1s, if not more. The tactics are clear: the CIS was using the same strategy as Starcraft players who use the Zerg Rush: make many weaker units as fast and as cheaply as possible to swarm the enemy. The same tactic was used for the Red Army in the real world during World War 2.
      With that said, I agree that they definitely would have won the Clone Wars if Palpatine wasn't involved. If you remember Revenge of the Sith, they were daring enough to assault Coruscant, the capital of the Republic. Also, the only reason they lost was because Palpatine gathered all of their leadership on Mustafar and sent Vader to slay them all. The army was never bested in combat, they were shut down remotely after the CIS High Command was taken out of commission. If the war continued without Palpatine's meddling, they would have curb stomped the Republic.

    • @alexanderrahl7034
      @alexanderrahl7034 6 лет назад +13

      lancer737 by smaller I meant territory. While the republic held thousands of world's the CIS consisted of only a few hundred

    • @alexanderrahl7034
      @alexanderrahl7034 6 лет назад +8

      Not to mention that their numbers could overwhelm even well trained clone armies. Independent planets wouldn't have stood a chance against them. And being cheaper than organics the popular resistance hit and run guerrilla tactics on garrisons in an occupied planet wouldn't be effective because they could just raise taxes to cover the cost of manufacture.
      And we know that the sinews of war are infinite money. No more true is that when you realize that the banking clan, the literal banks themselves were on the side of the CIS. And funding both. (Not too unlike real life lol) the CIS just had too many advantages over the republic. Even if their victory resulted in a split down the middle of the galaxy, the republic would likely never have recovered.

    • @aurious5821
      @aurious5821 6 лет назад +2

      both Palpatine and order 66 had very little to do with the CIS losing though, however though its mainly because of the fanbase's obsession with the Jedi and the force most stories and battles have the Jedi making a very large impact on most of the republics victories

      The mon calamari shipyards in legends ( i know, its not "true" canon, but we all know which canon is better. DOWN WITH THE USURPER) were, by 15 ABY , easily the largest military shipbuilders in the galaxy. KDY fell on hard times after the Emperor died.

      1 Kuat Drive Yards
      2 Corellian Engineering Corporation
      3 Fondor Shipyards
      4 Mon Calamari Shipyards or Gyndine Shipyards
      5 Uncertain, because Sorosuub really didn't make that many ships, it's like Walmart, it made everything. Any of the major military dockyards the Empire set up (Bilbringi, Yaga Minor, Black Fleet, etc, or places like Sluis Van, the Verpine hives, Byss(questionable as no numbers are ever said, but are implied)

      Yeah, that was the Empire's weakness. They structured their forces to fight other major empires which could afford big capital ship fleets (and to instill fear in local populations, but this proved to backfire on them spectacularly!). This was not a wise decision given the Empire was the galactic superpower of the time. It reminds me of some of the mistakes the US has made in terms of our military focus in the past couple decades since the conclusion of the Cold War. You need just enough big hitters to deal with other galactic threats, but if you under-invest in forces specialized in dealing with smaller, guerilla threats then you're ultimately going to suffer for it!

    The Imperial Navy is obviously the most powerful and best designed of these factions. It’s merely a matter of who’s commanding those ships. When you have fools like Piett commanding the imperial fleet it allowed the rebels to exploit its few weaknesses.

    • @anotherkenlon
      @anotherkenlon 6 лет назад +64

      The Imperial fleet, if actually deployed in proper numbers and following doctrine, would have been the best. However, it lacked flexibility and the very things that made it excel proved to be it's downfall - incredibly focused ship design falls down when things start veering off from plan.

    • @marcus4048
      @marcus4048 6 лет назад +6

      Infinitecharge8 I think the republic takes the cake on This. The imperials armor was not camouflaged and there walkers could be easily tripped. While the republics juggernauts are massive tanks, with high speed and power. And the republics navy could overcome the seps any day.

    • @SuperLegolover23

      Republic for sure. They had juggernauts, scout walkers, different clone classes with varying specialty classes like ARC, Commando, Galatic Marines and so on. Also, they had staggering numbers. Yeah the CIS Might of had them beat on gross number of droids, but the clones were trained by some of the best. Honestly, if the Republic was given current tech of the era, I'd say they could out class any faction.

  • @redacted3557
    @redacted3557 6 лет назад +47

    The empire doesn’t use a good doctrine, with its massive ISDs without point-defense and swarms of crappy fighters. The republic had a pretty good doctrine with its capital ship, the venator, was a all round ship. It was able to tear through CIS ships. It wasn’t meant for that, but it got the job done. Plus, all the fighters that it carries makes it more powerful. However i do think the republic should have dedicated capital and carrier ships. For example, as mentioned in the video, the venetors hangar bay could have been replaced with more turbolasers. Although the republic is my favorite faction of the four, I do think that CIS did have a well-rounded fleet and probably could have bested the rest of the factions, if there tech level was the same. The providence class was extremely powerful, which could be protected with somewhat powerful munificent class frigates. I say the seps win this, but I feel that the alliance doesn’t belong above the republic. The republic had high quality star fighters and its ships, through usually venators, do provide a lot of firepower along with its fighters. The venators were very durable as well, only being taken out by more numerous CIS ships.

      I agree, the venator could do everything. So what if the republic only had one main warship. It could put up a fight with other warships and fighters, take some damage, support other ships, carry many fighters which extended its range and flexibility as well as offensive and defensive capabilities, ferry troops and cargo in sites of action and peace, etc. If you needed something done the venator could do it as is without any modifications or preparations (with the exception of specializing fighters and cargo of course).

  • @ecth97
    @ecth97 6 лет назад +11

    One thing I really liked about Legends canon is that the issues you mentioned with the Rebel Alliance Navy end up being solved by the New Republic, who both continued to support the build strategies they already favored, extremely dangerous Star fighters and efficient small frigates and gunships, while developing both dedicated heavy carriers like the Endurance class and BAC, and powerful battle line ships like the Nebula class and the MC90 and up Mon Cal designs. Essentially they became the most well balanced fleet in the galaxy, but it took them a long time to get there.

  • @ChromaDragon
    @ChromaDragon 6 лет назад +37

    I personally would put the Republic ahead of the Rebels- while not shown/mentioned here (and one of these ships may now potentially be Legends-only), the Republic had Arquitens-class light cruisers and Victory I-class SDs (albeit, in somewhat limited numbers) as well, giving them a more powerful escort and a proper frontline combatant respectively. These two ships each fill a particularly gaping niche, though they alone wouldn't be enough to elevate the Republic ahead of the CIS (after all, the Arquitens probably isn't anything like as powerful as a Munificent, and the Victory I's a lot slower than it's peers.)
    Can't say I disagree with the idea of a Venator without that oversized central hangar, though. They could have cut it in half to keep a respectable strike load, and still made room for more/bigger guns (I mean seriously, only two barrels on the turbolaser mounts? There's enough quad-barrel turbolasers out there!)

    • @philippobitz2592
      @philippobitz2592 6 лет назад +1

      ReaperKallina An important thing to note is that the Republic's Arquintens' had hangars as opposed to the imperial version which is much more of a patrol vehicle (I think you can see some of them in TCW season 5). Also there's a Legends ship called the Valiant-class, that is basically just a battleship variation of the Venator.

      Yeah the Rebels might actually lose to the CIS if they're not careful due to their anti-fighter tactics. I never even realized their battleships were this good until I watched the video. I think this also has to do with how the CIS was funded and supplied by influential corporations as opposed to the Empire's shift to exploiting and supplementing the Republic's former assets to focus on fear tactics.

      EckhartsLadder not so. Within any imperial fleet there were smaller ships such as escorts carriers, Lancer class frigates, nebuloun b and victory class 1 & 2 star destroyers, interdictor cruisers, b2 frigates, and quasar fire class carriers. While the fleetwas designed ultimately around terror and size, by the Battle of Endor the Imperial navy had started to adapt to the rebels. It's just the films did not display this.

      @Transilvanian90 agreed. In the book X-Wing Rogue Squadron, wedge even points out how much more dangerous the empire would have been if they had invested in more Lancers and more balanced fleets. If there were a direct comparison, the rebel alliance operated fleets similar to American carrier strike groups with fighters being the main strike element fir combat, where as the empire is more analogous to German surface fleet doctrine or combined with Japanese fighter doctrine all focused on the decisive battle doctrine. But as many Star Wars capital ships are hybrids of battleships and carriers combined 1 to 1 comparisons are difficult to make.

  • @samiamrg7
    @samiamrg7 4 года назад +3

    I feel like the Empire fleet was designed to hard-counter a fleet like the Confederacy. Star Destroyers can tear apart the large capital ships of the Confederacy while their shields/armor and TIEs can hold off the droid fighters long enough for the control ships to be destroyed.
    This doctrine is obviously countered by the Rebel fleet, which was obviously designed to counter the Empire.
    More interesting though, is that I think the Rebels would have difficulty fighting a Confederacy-like fleet that uses a variety of heavily armed capital ships and swarms of fighters. The combination of huge numbers of fighters and defensive laser fire from the Confederate ships might overwhelm the Rebellion fighters, leaving their light capital ships vulnerable to the heavily armed and Confederate frigates and cruisers.
    The Rebels would certainly inflict casualties, but they would probably take just as many in return.

    • @damn8179

      I think a fleet of the C.I.S would be a horror for the Empire only 1 Lucrehulk Battle Carrier and 3 Star Destroyer can say goodbye. The Empire had compared to the C.I.S no Star Fighters (yes they had but only like 10-20) and the Star Destroyers also didnt had point defense laser what they want to do against more than 200 Star Fighters who shoot at them. The Problem for the C.I.S is that the Munificent Star Frigates, Recusant class Frigate and Providence class carrier doesnt stand a chance against a Star Destroyer but a Providence class Dreadnought would completely destroy a Star Destroyer and the C.I.S economy is only for War means that they just can produce Ships much much faster.

    I would say the empire. It's specifically designed for ship to ship combat. While its anti-fighter defenses aren't all that great the number of fighters they have with them makes up for that. Although what really decides the battle is the commander. Do you have a fool, someone who's competent, or an expert? The imperial navy at endor was superior to its rebel opponents but with the emperors handicaps (and plot armor) the rebels under ackbar won the battle.

      Of all of them I would say the Empire is the worst, the ships have little anti-fighter weaponry as you say and in terms of fighters the Empire is woefully outmatched by the Rebels in quality, Republic in numbers and to a lesser extent quality and the CIS in numbers by a massive margin. Given that their starfighter capability are by far the worst and there capital ships are weak to starfighters and extremely costly I don't think they would have any chance against any of the other proper navies. The Empires capabilities are powerful but unadaptable and that inability to adapt will be their undoing against all the other 3 navies in this test.

    If you account for imperial ships that are mentioned in books but not the movies, than the empire has a far better navy. It has ships like the lancer and Carrack, or like in EAW, the tartan. At the end of the day, the important thing is the commander and how they use the ships. If you only see Thrawn in charge, you’d think the design is amazing, but if you only saw Piett, than you’d think of it as horrible

    • @MandalorV7
      @MandalorV7 6 лет назад

      The fact that Zsinj has a Super Star Destroyer would help considerable. Yet I figure Thrawn would try to draw Zsinj into some sort of ambush or use special strike fighters to take down the SSD.

    • @jakell4711
      @jakell4711 6 лет назад

      Well, if they were able to prepare, then obviously Thrawn would have an advantage. Although, if we were talking about something on that large a scale, then Zsinj's economic power should be taken into account as well.

      @jakell4711 6 лет назад

      However, ultimately I was thinking more of a "They stumble upon each other with roughly equivalent forces and no prior knowledge of one another" type scenario. Or perhaps a little bit of prior knowledge but the battle is still spontaneous, with no time to prepare.

    • @philippobitz2592
      @philippobitz2592 6 лет назад

      Would be interesting to know what Thrawn would theorise about Zsinj's tactics if the only thing he knew about him was how he killed his own mother to gain command of the aforementioned SSD from her (makes you think what some of the writers were up to back then),just going by how he likes to analyze his enemies' motivation and culture.
      If Zsinj knew anything about Thrawn, it would probably just boil down to "the Emperor's pet" or something, with the Empire being all human-centric (and sexist if we go by some legends material), it wouldn't surprise me if some people disliked the idea of some blue-skinned guy being a Grand Admiral.
      The battle itself would probably be a quality vs. quantity (read: strategy vs. economy) sort of deal and certainly very interesting, but we already got videos along the lines of "One Executor versus...", so I'd rather like to hear what EkhartsLadder thinks of the two commanders of this match-up.

  • @patrickrear
    @patrickrear 6 лет назад +11

    Good analysis. I disagree with your conclusion though, and instead I'd rank it as follows:
    1. CIS-it has a good mix of ships to fill every role, as well as being specifically-designed to maximize the advantages of using droids as starfighter pilots/soldiers/crew in an attempt to mitigate the inherent disadvantages to that strategy.The simple decision to rely on droids to mitigate the costs of swarm tactics would be enough to push it past the Empire.
    2. Galactic Empire-While you look to the biggest and flashiest examples of the Imperial Navy as evidence of poor design, you fail to take into account the wide variety of other ships filling a variety of roles such as the purpose-built Lancer-class, the well-rounded Carrack-class, the versatile Strike-class, the aging Victory-class Star Destroyers, or their game-changing interdictor cruisers which totally negate the advantages of the Rebel Alliance. In Episodes V and VI we are treated to large fleets and massive space battles, but in reality rather than the Imperial-class being the only ship that was used, it was the building block around which fleets were assembled, since a single Imperial-class was intended to have enough firepower, troops, and starfighters to overwhelm the defenses of any planet or enemy vessel it should encounter. Once paired with support ships such as those mentioned above or others, its weaknesses caused by being a jack-of-all trades could be easily mitigated. (Paired with a Lancer, an interdictor, and a handful of support craft like Carracks or Strikes, a single Star Destroyer could prevent the vital second half of Rebel hit-and-run tactics, and use its superior firepower to overwhelm a raiding party while also being adequately defended against starfighters.) The problem was rather one of leadership, where commanders failed to make use of all the resources available to them. (Such as Tarkin refusing to deploy fighters at the Battle of Yavin.)
    3. Rebel Alliance-It's worth mentioning here that (aside from the Mon Calamari ships), the vast majority of the Rebel fleet was either ships that were woefully outdated, were adapted from civilian use (which even includes the Mon Calamari ships), or were captured from the Empire. Basically every class of ship that they had was either still in use by the Imperial Navy, had been retired from the Imperial Navy in favor of a newer alternative, or was not actually a military-grade vessel. (The Mon Calamari ships stand out as the exception, but most repurposed civilian vessels were trash with little to no value against their opponents.) Since the extremely-capable Mon Calamari ships were much rarer, that resulted in the average Rebel fleet composition being largely composed of corvettes, frigates, and maybe a light cruiser, which would be completely outclassed if confronted with the average Imperial fleet.
    4. Old Republic-A lot of the Empire's naval doctrine was inherited from the Republic along with the Republic fleet, and the changes that were made to turn the Republic Navy into the Imperial Navy were done in order to address the former's weaknesses, namely the lack of adequate frontline capital ships. Much of the reason the Republic fleet ranks at the bottom of the list is because the Venator-class was simply a poor choice for a frontline ship. They had begun to rectify that with the introduction of the Victory-class by the end of the Clone Wars, but that transformation wasn't completed until well after the Republic had become the Empire.

  • @plainplane7580
    @plainplane7580 6 лет назад +6

    I would think Venators would be cost effective, as they are a carrier and battleship in one. Why spend more money and resources building separate capital, carrier, and battleships when you can build a ship that can fit all of those roles? The CIS had the resources to pump out ships, starfighters and droids at a high rate, they basically had the backing of all the major corporations and banks after all.

    I feel like you have no clue what you’re talking about, yes the Empire focused on Star Destroyers, but you completely ignored the various Dedicated Tie specialties, the tie fighter was the most common, but there were also tie interceptors, tie bombers, heavy tie fighters, and others, the Empire arguably focused as much on small fighters as the Alliance, because who would have guessed it...they needed to fight the Alliance and created fighters to do so, they depended on those fighters to cover the destroyers lack of anti fighter capability, and make no mistake they used this to great effect, I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it again, just because the empire was made to look dumd for the heroes in the movies doesn’t mean they were, where as i agree with the confederacy in number one, the other two factions need to be put down and the empire deserves number 2, the worst is easily EASILY the Republic, look i love the clones, but time and time again the clones are proven to be...less than adequate star pilots, dependent on jedis janky out of the ordinary tactics (and mostly Anikan Skywalkers abilities) to win engagements, furthermore, the venator was literally a dubbed down star destroyer so i have a hard time seeing how you put the republic over the empire but whatever

      Zankku Zann in true warfare the troop amount is the most important factor for victory together with leadership.

      It's true that numerical strength is extremely important, but you have to take into account how the imperial military was supposed to work: Mostly on intimidation. Their entire doctrine is built on the idea to prevent uprisings through intimidation, to demonstrate power.
      As soon as imperial star destroyers get taken out by rebel starfighters, their intimidation factor is essentially gone. And if they loose their power as a symbol, the entire doctrine collapses into itself.

      Mic Clank you are definitely correct with the empire, this video didn’t actually focus on the navy, but rather the starfighters and tactics. If he was looking at the actual navy, he’d look at: funds available, cost of manufacturing, able to manufacture, size, firepower etc, not starfighters and tactics.

    • @StadtplanDan
      @StadtplanDan 6 лет назад +3

      No, this video focuses on naval design and strategy, leaving out the economic power of the factions behind them. The Imperial Navy whist great at instilling fear is badly designed for what it faces, excessive anti-capital firepower with lacking point-defence against a rebel faction which primarily uses strike-craft and has a very limited number of capital ships.

    The fact that the Rebels refitted civilian ships had more than 4x the firepower of a Venator really shows just how underarmed that ship was. I don't know who designed a main line crusier with just *8* heavy turbolasers,but they need to be fired. The Lucrehulks had 48 QUAD heavy turbolasers, for example. The Providence had 14 of those as well

    I have often said, the CIS was one of the best factions in star wars history. Its Navy, Army and political makeup are far superior to other powers, most certainly better then the Republic. The sad fact is the CIS was made the stereotypical "bad guys" for the prequels and the writing for them gave them none of the due they deserved. Had the CIS discovered the sith plan, over throughn count Doku and restructured their military command, they would have been by far the most organized and well meaning faction during the clone wars era.

  • @razzledazzle2666
    @razzledazzle2666 6 лет назад +2

    I think when you look at it the CIS was ahead due to versatility and numbers the Republic came in second because it was the only practical war machine besides the CIS. The Rebels may have had the ships but they don't have enough personal to man them along with the fact that they have to know how to use the ships along with the fact that if you got into a large scale engagement the Rebels would lose because they simply don't have the numbers and man power to put up a good enough fight. While the Rebels had good fighters they simply just had shitty cap ships because they were either stripped or refitted with new tech which could interfere with the ship's combat effectiveness. The Empire I think should stay in last because even though in EU they had a shit load of different ships you still don't see them in your average Imp battle group or fleet its usually just a couple of ISD 2s and thats it, while they do pack a punch they simply just can't repel fighters at all which if in a large fleet engagement it would most likely lose do to the fact that the other 3 factions rely on fighters to win their battles for them which when launched the Empire just can't shrug them off and will then start to lose ships this is easily shown when an a-wing crashed straight into Vader's flagship in "Return of the Jedi" with it not having any point defense it just couldn't shoot it down, I think that these star destroyers where just designed with fear in mind and cap on cap in mind not even thinking about fighters until the rebels showed up with a bunch of high quality fighters and started messing shit up. Anyways here is what I think the list should have been CIS, Republic, Rebel Alliance, Empire. Also one last thing I want to add is that way to many people are putting way too much faith in the CIS saying that it would have won the clone wars, and while yes it is a possibility you gotta keep in mind that even though they have good ships its who's commanding the ship is what gives it its true power, while many people are gonna bring up Grevious and the spider dude (I forgot his name its like 30am rn don't judge me XD) those are just two guys which in any given scenario could die because the Republic also has good leadership also with it being numerous. While they have mainly droids which do reduce the amount of organic loss it can prove to be quite comber sum with each officer droid having programmed tactics shoved into his head and won't be able to thin outside it's programming which in the field will degrade it's ships capabilities and effectiveness as well. I think if the war were to stretch out the Republic would come out victorious due to better leadership capabilities and better training.

    I believe that the fleet of the rebel alliance is the weakest and useless. Why? Because they will lose in direct battle even to pirates (in terms of the power of the guns and the strength of ships). This will be especially noticeable if you play in the Star wars empire at war series of games, especially in remake
    But the fleet of the Confederation of Independent Systems could not only fight on equal terms with the fleet of the empire, but defeat the numerically superior fleet of the empire (and not just the empire).
    Yes, of course, the alliance won the battle of Yavin and Endor, but let's be honest, it was a drain on imperial power. So I would put the rebel alliance fleet in general in last place. For the rest, I agree.

    here's my list
    the republic are first, their ships are meant for combat and have some of the best navy variety and in my opinion, they have many of my favorite ship's and the only reason their not second is because of how I like the republic's design
    second, and only bearly first, is the cis, their droid only ships are perfect for customization, and number's advantage to organic's, this also has some of the best ships for a number's combat role
    then we have the rebel's, despite not having a dedicated facility, they keep some republic era spacecraft and the ships are far better than the empire's
    and last is the empire, the ship's plan out suck, and cheap and disposable not used in number's, with people inside is a massive no in my book.

    The Empire should have kept the Venators. Then they would have a strong cruiser-to-cruiser ship (Imperial I/II Star Destroyers) and a anti-Starfighter/ carrier ship (Venator)- and they wouldn't have to come up with a new carrier design or go through the costly stage of fully replacing the Venators with Imperial Is.

    definitely cis however it is important to note that this meant that, their specialized ships meant that on their own they could be vulnerable, Eg; a munificent can be overwhelmed by star fighters, a lucrehulk outflanked by cruisers. the imperial fleet has the most diverse engagement profile, but in that lacks the capacity to deal with specialized threats, not to mention the tie fighter is a key weakness.

And/or (depends on you) take all these mentioned factions and take pieces from them and create your own armed forces (e.g. Venators in support role, munificent as main attack craft, clones on the ground, that sort of list).
    That would propably be interesting

    The Republic was still able to outmaneuver the Separatists due to their backbone ships of the navy, The venator, being more powerfull than the CIS's backbone ships, the Munificent.
    Although, the republic navy WAS fairly outnumbered by the separatist fleet. Mace windu even stated that "Our problem is simple-the Separatist navy has four times the number of ships we do. We must slow down their ship production or this war will end quickly, and not in our favor."
    But then again, the separatists DID have the majority of their ships controled by droids, who usualy where worse than organic pilots. An example of this is their slow reaction time.
    We see that during the battle over Coruscant, a separatist recusant destroyer (wich has terrible maneuverability) crashed into a Munificent frigate probably due to the slow reaction time of the droids.
    A Venator can outclass up to 3 Munificents at once. And with the separatist fleet being made up of mostly these ships and where about four times larger than the republic, the two sides where pretty evenly matched. If we add up droids controling most of the CIS ships, The Munificents making up about 30-50% of the fleets and the republic having ships that where better than most other separatist vessals, we get the balance even clearer. ;)

    In legends, Republic had VSD mk1 and few kuati superdreadnaughts. Also rendilian dradnaughts, while fregate sized, should be match for munnificent or recusant-class. Same with carracks Sadly they got almost forgotten by the prequels hype, but that's how fans imagined republic navy before RotS.
