Hi there
So I have been binge watching a few of your Sonoff videos. Very well done. Your explanations are clear. And precise….. so many videos skip the small things. And then, as a viewer, you’re completely lost. Very nice. Thank you.
Thank you for this amazing review! I panicked so much after watching a couple others that said I needed to install a third wire, if I don't have it - but seeing you only having 2 and it working really brings peace to my soul!
Wait, the others are correct. You need a neutral wire for these switches to work. I have two wires only because I did not wire up the bulb to the output. So you definitely need 3 wires for a 1 gang switch: live coming from the switchboard, switched live going to the light, and neutral. But Sonoff actually has a single live wire version, which does not need the third neutral wire: ruclips.net/video/xckLtFYS77I/видео.html. So you need that version, otherwise it will not work.
@@csongorvarga I have 2 wires for the 1 gang switch. Switched live going to the switch and a neutral, no 2nd live wire. Will this work?
if i saw this video before to order then i choice white one. Very bad if i can't see wheell where is the button location. Should be opposide that whne swich on then light of button must low. Anyway in light i will see where is. But in daylight when swhich off , i dont know how i can find location. To late for me. Thank you. Very nice information.
I have this connector. How to remove it from the wall?
I'm going to make my switches smart, I need to know what's the deference between the Sonoff series!! Please help me for the right choice
In terms of functionality they are the same. So it is pretty much looks. T2 series have models which have optional RF switch. That could be useful.
I think that the interlock function was introduced in firmware v 3.3.0 as I have it on previous generation multi-gang wall switches.
Thanks. I think I need to do "what's new in eWelink" video.
Nice video, please tell me, is that works without WiFi network means if wifi is off will the buttons work manually ?
Also tell us more about inching function, what is that how it works ?
Thanks
Thanks. If the wifi is off, the button still works. That case it acts like a regular wall switch. Inching is an auto-off function. E.g. you can set to 15 minutes and the it will automatically turn off after 15 minutes.
@@csongorvarga. Okay got it thanks for replying me
Thanks for your video, you explain thing very well and with details.
From what I see, the new TX series has exactly the same functionality as the previous T1 US, and I guess the EU models. What I'm wondering is if the new series TX could be flashed with Tasmota, or if it works with NodeRed and Home Assistant. Do you know this?
I am pretty sure it does. Just need to wait until somebody publishes the details, like were the various connectors are.
@@csongorvarga I saw a video from Dr. Zzz that he flash it with Tasmota.
My new question is if you could control self-locking and inching together, I think you cannot by using eWeLink, but do you know if it is possible by using Tasmota firmware through Node Red. I just ordered one switch yesterday to test it but it will take time for the arrival.
Hello, thank you for your video...With this I can change the old switch (the usual up and down) at my house for this one to for exemple turn the kitchen lights?
Yes and no. This TX switch also needs mains power to operate. It needs to be connected to both the live and neutral wire. Older switch boxes usually have only the live wire in the wall box where your old switch is (only black or only brown wires - but varies by geography). So if you do not have a neutral wire, it will not work. In such cases that is still and option, because Sonoff also have a switch which looks like this, but it is called "Single Live Wire". That does not need that neutral wire.
Is it possible to use similar type of these switches as a two way smart wall switches?
Yes, there is a group function in the settings, and you can group multiple switches together for two way or three way switching.
@@csongorvarga thanks a lot
i am in trouble how to wire this. neutral wire is not an issue, however the switch does not have a neutral OUT - so where should i connect the neutral wire to the actual lamp? now the neutral is connected directly behind the classic switch.
The neutral is not switched, this is why there is no out. Only the live goes in and out. The neutral can go directly to the lamp and the switch.
Sziasztok, szia Csongor! Olyan kérdésem lenne, hogy fényerőt, a kapcsolók háttér fényét lehet e állítani, és ha igen, akkor hol? Ma vettem észre hogy a t3 és a t2 egymás mellett különböző fényerővel dolgozik. Gyakorlatilag a t2 felkapacsolt állapotban fényes, világos annyira, mint a t3 as kapcsolók lekapcsolva. Köszi a választ!
Hey, thanks for the video! I have one question: Is it possible to switch a light from another location (from other side of the house)? I have kitchen light with sonoff mini+dumb switch and I want to be able to switch kitchen light from other wall in house which is not wired to kitchen light? Any ideas? Thanks!
Yes, you can install this, just power it to the mains. It will not switch anything, physically, but in the device settings you can group this device with the Sonoff mini. This way when you switch the TX, the mini will switch as well.
@@csongorvarga thanks man!!!
@@csongorvarga Does this work also with sonoff R2? (f.i. sonoff r2 + sonoff tx)?
@@andrejsersen59 I did not see if there is any device it would not work. But if the group is not available, you can also set up a scene to do the same. And that definitely works for all models.
Great review. Can you remove that HIDEOUS Sonoff logo in the lower right part of the switch?
not sure if anyone gives a damn but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all of the latest movies on Instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my girlfriend for the last weeks :)
@Harrison Westley Yup, I've been using Instaflixxer for months myself =)
Does this have power state recovery so that the appliances are returned to previous state after power outage like what happens in a normal switch?
Yes, in the settings there is an option called "Power on State" and there there is a "Last state" option. So it can return to the last state after a power outage.
I have one concern, that lights on the switch buttons are too dim, and when the switch is off the lights go off too, so it’s hard to find the switch at night if u wanna turn the light on
Yes, they are. This is why I am personally not a big fan of touch switches.
So at Night your screen is brighter and on sunny day you got it dimmer?
Very informative, thank you!
7 mins
I find the blue light elimination very dim in normal day light conditions. Is there a way to make it brighter when the switch is in standby/off position?
The previous generation with the round blue elimination is much brighter..
Yeah, I am not aware of any way to change that. Unless you start modifying the board, but I would not know where to start.
how much power consumption it take by it self to make WIFI module work ? I can not find this info anywhere ... i have LED bulb that is 620 lumens and take 3.5 Watts, so if this smart switch take for example like 3.5 to 7 watts than I can leave my light turned on all the time :D and no need any smart switch... because it will consume double more power...
I did not measure this, I measured other Sonoff devices and it was 1W. Probably below 1W but the device does not measure such low power. So it is less that even a small bulb, when you have a few dozen of these around the house, it adds up.
Very nice review. Is there an easy way to integrate this with Home Assistant?
Flash it with esphome
really like your videos
It looks really good!
When you set interlock do you have inching duration feature? In the old model inching is disabled by using interlock mode, then if you wanna use it for a curtain for a specific duration of time you cannot.
Yes, it works the same way for me. It says on the bottom of the interlock screen that the inching will be disabled. It is not ideal. You can only rely on the limit switch in your curtain motor to switch itself off. The only option I can recommend is disable interlock, enable inching, and set up two scenes: scene #1: when gang 1 turns on, turn off gang 2. Scene #2: when gang 2 turns on, turn off gang 1. Since this is done by scene, there is a small delay and it only works if you internet is working.
Hi,
How many kwh does this use?
I would like to calculate the consumption..
Tanks
Typically these devices consume around 1W each. But I have not measure consumption over a longer period.
PS: Im still browsing but it would be great to see how to create a scene in eWeLink ???
What do you mean? There is a Scene button on the lower part of the screen and after that plus button on the top right. Or where did you get stuck?
Excellent review 👍
Use the white version for clear explaination.
Does anyone know of any adapter plate for a US two gang box.
How do you achieve two way switching with this product?
I have a separate video on that. Using scenes in eWeLink.
Does it have a Dimmer on it
No, this only and on/off switch. Cool profile logo :)
Dam really wanted a Dimmer on it that would be cool to control a Dimmer on my phone
5:23 how du you open that thing when it is mounted to the wall?
There is an indent on the bottom of the bezel. Put a flat screwdriver in there, twist and the bezel pops off.
tx 4 is out for eu. No neutral wire required!!!
The postman was here 10 mintues ago and delivered the review sample for me :) So a new video is coming.
@@csongorvarga Haha.
Is it compatible with homekit?
Not with the standard firmware. And I don't know if there is option to make it compatible with custom firmware.
good review thanks
does it have any api to use it with my app?
No, but there are guides on the internet how you can flash the firmware on the device to Tasmota and than you can control it locally. You will loose the eWeLink access and there is no way going back.
@@csongorvarga Thanks a lot! I successfully flashed tasmota via raspberry
I have TX 2 channel and 1 channel, ghost switching is really annoying.
No MQTT supoort?
If you flash it to Tasmota.
