Yes! And His commands are contained in the written Torah of Moses (1Ki.2:3).
Thus, John (1Jn.5:3) applies ALL Torah to Christians!
      Paul does too (1Cor.7:19).

So, if we are to keep all the commandments that are loving, which commandments are those? Here’s a hint. All of them. Just a few quick points on this subject as I’m up to 30 pages worth of material on what God says on the subject and feel like I’m just getting going.
Matthew 22:37-40 “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” We see from the declaration of Jesus that the ENTIRE law of God was about loving. Loving Him, and loving others.
Matthew 5:17-19 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” The law of God was not changed. We are still expected to keep it. Who do we think the least and the greatest are?
2 Peter 3:16 “As also in all his (Paul) epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”
Romans 7:7 “What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.”
In short, we are still under the law, but free from the penalty of it (eternal death). A great resource for learning and understanding the Bible is 119 ministries. I’ve found them to be great in inspiring me with my daily walk with God! YHWH bless you through His son Yeshua the Messiah!

Defending the faith. When the Bible says “you will love your God with all your heart and soul” and “you will love your neighbor”-those are the “new” laws, right? The first part about loving God refers to the first 4 commandments of the Decalogue (loving God); the other law about love towards others can be found in the last 6 commandments. So the “new” commandment is a summary of what’s written in the Ten Commandments.

If we live as Jesus did, we will obey God's commandments. You can tell a good tree by its fruit. We are not under the law, but it is our choice of whether or not we want to sin against God. Sinners will not inherit the kingdom of God. God wants us to choose him. Therefore do not teach that one shouldn't try to keep God's law. They are not bound by it, and should know it, but if they know it, and still desire to keep it, then don't condemn them. Romans 10:4 says, “Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” He is not merely its termination; He is the one who offers righteousness, the goal or aim which the law intended. Righteousness cannot be achieved by keeping laws. It requires forgiveness, and that is obtained in Christ (Ephesians 1:7). Are you in Him?

Directly from the pit of hell. The Bible says we are not under the CEREMONIAL law (circumcision, animal sacrifice etc), but we are still very much under the moral law, which includes the ten commandments. 1Cor 7:19 "for circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision in nothing, but keeping the commandments of God"
If Christ's sinlessness and obedience were credited to all of us, then for a start, the Bible would never teach in 1John 1:9 "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". Hence we can fail to obey his commandments at any time and require repentance to be cleansed again. This passage, and a hundred others, would be meaningless if we had nothing to do but sit back and receive an alien righteousness. Fact is, man's actions can influence his righteousness.
John 20:21-23, why on earth would Christ grant authority to forgive sins if there is nothing to forgive.
What are we supposed to do with Matt 6:15 "But if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. " ??
What about Matt 12:36-37 "I tell you on the day of judgement, people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned." ??

Notice how Mr. Piper shifted his answer from under the 10 commandments to under the Mosaic Law (Romans) which we aren't under. Christ's commandments, like the 10 commandments, like all of God's commandments are based on the eternal law, which we are all under. So, I'll listen to Christ who said in Matthew 19:17, "If you want to enter life, keep the commandments." If you sin a few times you will be punished, because it is those very punishments that God uses to bring you back to the fold. If you follow the law your Faith is increased. However, the more one sins the further one actually drifts from God. Thinning out their faith until one day they don’t even believe at all. That is the nature of apostasy. This is a typical example of the gospel of lawlessness. Love?
"By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome" (1 Jn. 5:2-3).
See Mark 12:29, the Shema is the greatest commandment of Jesus. If you have the grasp of what the Shema means you will repent of your blasphemy against the Master.
Talking about the apostle Paul? Read Romans 3:31.
    Now read this:
"The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will cast out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all lawbreakers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Mt. 13:41-42).

What people need to realize is that the context of Scripture (especially anything in the NT about the law) needs to be taken into consideration. For instance, when it says in Galatians 3:23-25 "Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law." The law here is not the commandments, it can only be referring to all of the sin offerings, burnt offerings, etc. Because "faith has come" Jesus has become the ultimate sin offering, "we are no longer under the supervision of the law" meaning that you no longer had to have annual sin offerings and all of that stuff. The "law" could never justify man they had to keep doing all the sin offerings, until Jesus died on the cross for all sins. Now in 1 Timothy 1:8-11 Paul speaks of the law as being commandments, "We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers-and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me." Everything mentioned here are obviously commandments. So just make sure if you see someone pull some particular Scripture out of the air for a certain situation that they are using it in the right context.

I am fully aware of Jesus' teachings and I happen to keep the commandents. My point was that people need to follow them and not read "Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law." and then say "Oh so we don't have to follow the commandents?" From your comments it sounds like you didn't read my initial comment all the way through because you're arguing about stuff I didn't even say or refer to. +Maxime Boucher When Paul speaks of the curse of the law, he is not talking about a so-called curse of obeying God's commandments or having to keep His commandments. Righteousness before God is not a curse. Paul is speaking of the curse of the Law of Moses specifically, which can never take away sin or lead one into righteousness, but instead provides sacrifice. You ARE subject to punishment for sin, and Jesus' death did not remove that. Rather, Jesus death provided the means for your redemption. Jesus is NOT your righteousness. Your righteousness is your righteousness, and your sin is your sin. But there is righteousness for those who will obey the Gospel. Sounds like you may not have ever heard the Gospel, but perhaps like I once was, you've been fooled by the antichrist gospel, which teaches that Jesus was not born with a sin nature but that you were born with a different kind of flesh than He.

Luke 11:13 Says "If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him." So the way to keep the law is really by asking and to keep on asking the Father for the Holy Spirit. We are sealed at salvation by the Spirit but there is also a sense in which we are to have this continued and authentic relationship with God through that asking. We dont have a God who is waiting to squash us if we miss on accident ...(Paul admits that coveting is some thing that he struggled with) ..but genuine salvation looks like some one keeping the 10 Commandments. I think I have that correct. It has been a question that has haunted me. Is it by Grace or by Works? Its about Grace that comes as we ask in faith and then we see it in our lives in the form of Galatians 5:22. From the outside no one can say some else is "Not Saved" we dont know that about each other but we probably know by watching whats happening inside us (Holy Spirit induced Repentance under the Lordship of Jesus Christ) and what we do when no one looks. Galatians 5 kind of seems to say it all. Keeping the 10 commandments is quite a privilege and by keeping them by love through the Spirit... there is great reward. Not keeping them will make your life stink. I prefer to have a long happy life if possible. The Holy Spirit will be your best friend and you will find out that life is worth living with him. Let Joy replace misery.

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The fruit of your faith is obedience to God’s commandments. That’s why the Bible says faith without works is dead. Imagine if Noah professed to believe God but didn’t obey what God had said. Your actions should mirror your profession. James 1:22 tells us to be doers of the word not hearers only, deceiving our own selves. It’s clear that the Bible shouldn’t be mere theology but also something practical in our lives.
Secondly, I understand that people saying we’re not under the law is just an attack on the Sabbath. But, Paul kept the sabbath because of his faith in God as well (Acts 13:14, 27, 42, 44). The Sabbath is kept because we believe that in six days the LORD created the heavens and the earth and the seas and on the seventh day HE rested (Exodus 20:11). That’s why we keep the Sabbath. Hebrews 11:3, we read and declare that through faith we believe that the worlds were framed by the word of God. So therefore by faith, we keep the Sabbath as well. Blessings to you all 🙏🏽

But here it means the commandments of Jesus Christ: "Love the Lord your God above all else and love your neighbour as yourself" because in Hebrews 8:13 he has made the old covenant obselete
And also in Matthew 5:17 it meant that christ came to fulfil the prophesies
See, the Old Testament was given to us for several reasons. After explaining Creation, its main purpose was to show God's developing plan for rescuing humanity from the power of sin. In Matthew 5:21-48, we see Jesus contrasting the Old and new testaments. Romans 7:7 tells us that the Old testament Law was good because it showed us what sin was, and thus, showed us our need for a Savior. That's why the Old Testament points directly to christ as the savior we needed and there are dozens of verses that tell the exact place of Jesus' birth andinute details
The Old Testament also helps the New Testament make sense. In Matthew 5:17, Jesus said he came to fulfil the law, not to abolish it. The Old Testament helps us understand why Jesus did what he did. This was how God prepared the way for Jesus
      Hope it helped u understand

The Commandments are for everyone to follow. Through love and proper understanding of the Creator, you will understand what He ultimately wants. The Sabbath was not meant to be done away with, but to really understand WHY to observe it. It was the first thing He actually made hallowed at creation. In His infinite wisdom, He understood for us, the impact of detaching ourselves from......ourselves and turning away from the distractions and frustrations the world and our lives have to offer. Spending one whole day, the seventh day(numbers are VERY important to the ultimate and greatest mathematician) in worship and commune with Him, was obviously very important to our Father. Christ didn't do away with the law, but to uphold it. He also knows that for us, the seventh day is the blueprint day that we should have imprinted on our lives. We shouldn't just wait until the Sabbath to act holy. Most people that worship on Sunday, don't worship for the whole day either, most go back to what they were doing immediately after they leave church. The Israelites/Jews made a mess of things by going too far with being legalistic and making rituals strenuous and confounding. All of the Commandments are from understanding what the Father ultimately wants from us. We can bicker about keeping the Sabbath, but we all have our free will to do so or not.

This is my knowledge on the law, holy spirit, remaining in Christ, Love and salvation. My knowledge is poured out in this LONG message. It's simple to read, easy to understand, with commonly asked questions answered, in a student to teacher relationship. ENJOY brothers and sisters!
    1.First there was man.
    2. then there was law.
    3. man then sinned against the law and then there was the sinful nature. (flesh)
    4. after the sinful nature beginned, it became impossible to keep God's law.
    5. as time went on, more laws were put in place and we failed again and again to keep God's law.
    6. God knew that we couldn't meet his standards by keeping his law because our sinful nature made it impossible to keep his laws perfectly.
now lets check scripture to make sure i'm right smile emoticon
Teacher: Remember when I said in step 6 above, that we couldn't keep the law because of our sinful nature? Well it's in the scripture below.
Romans 8:3 "The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature" .
Teacher:Okay point proven, trying to keep the law to please God is impossible, because our sinful nature causes us to sin against God's law.
Student: So what does this mean for all the believers around the world manually trying to keep the law to please God?
Teacher: It means that all the believers who are trying the law of moses to be saved, are wasting their time, because their sinful nature won't allow them to keep God's law without breaking it.
Student: So since it's humanly impossible to keep God's law, how can we be saved?
Teacher: Yes it's humanly impossible to keep God's law, but not spiritually impossible.
    Student: what do you mean?
Teacher: Well we just learned from reading the scripture above that our "sinful nature" naturally causes us to sin, which is breaking God's law right?
    Student: right.
Teacher: Well God ended our "sinful nature's" CONTROL over us by giving hes son as a sacrifice for sin, in return we would get a new holy nature .
This new nature that we have comes from the holy spirit. It gives believers the ability to meet the standards of God's law, but that's only if we live by the spirit, and deny our sinful nature.
Student: Where is this in the bible? That God ended the flesh's/sinful nature ability to cause a believer to sin, and with the holy spirirt we can meet the standards of God's law?
Romans 8:3 "God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins." (NLT)
Teacher: Thats one point proven. ( The sinful nature or the flesh has power to cause us to sin if sin has control over us. But If sin doesn't have control over us, then our sinful nature can't cause us to sin anymore.)
Student: Okay I get the first part, our sinful nature can't make us sin because God ended sin's control over us. But if God ended sins control over us then how come I still sin?"
Teacher: There are different reasons why believers still sin. But the root reason why is because they are not living according to the holy spirit, which enables a person to live according to God's standards.
Student: Okay that's one question answered. So basically, I still sin because somewhere in my life I am not living according to the spirit. But what about the second thing you said about being able to meet the standards of God's law, by the holy spirit?
Teacher: Now for the second point. I'm I right about it being possible to meet the requirements of God's law with the Holy spirit? (The new nature)?
Romans 8:4 Now we are able to live up to the justice demanded by the law. But that ability has not come from living by our fallen human nature; it has come because we walk according to the movement of the Spirit in our lives.
Teacher: Second point is proven. It says above that we have the ability to meet God's standard in the law, if we live according to the spirit!
Student: Okay... so What happens if God's standards in the law are met?
Teacher: God is then satisfied with us, and we can then inherit the kingdom of God.
Student: I thought we weren't under the law anymore but under grace? So why are you telling us to keep the law?
Teacher: I am not telling you to keep the law, I am telling you that when you live by the holy spirit, you automatically not manually meet the requirements of the law.
Student: Okay so your saying that somehow by living according to the spirit, we automatically meet the requirements of the law without manually keeping the law?
    Teacher: Yes! That's correct!
Student: How does the holy spirit enable us to meet the requirement of the law, without us manually keeping them ourselfs?
    Teacher: Listen carefully.
The holy spirit enables a believer to meet the requirements of the law, "without" the believer manually keeping the law, because LOVE meets all of the laws requirements and the holy spirit enables a believer to LOVE!
Student: WHAT!?!?! I never heard this before. where is it in the bible that the holy spirit enables a believer to love and that love meets the requirement of the law?
Teacher: your question is "Does the holy spirit enable a believer to love?"
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
Teacher: Point one Proven! The traits above is how you will live if you are living according to the spirit, and this is infact very loving!
    Teacher: Second point.
Your question is "where in the bible does it say that love meets the requirements of the law?"
    Romans 13:8
Pay all your debts except the debt of love for others-never finish paying that! For if you love them, you will be obeying all of God’s laws, fulfilling all his requirements.
Teacher: Second point proven! Love meets the requirement of all God's laws according the scripture!
Student: wow, I think I understand now! So trying to meet the requirement of God's law manually is trying to obtain salvation by our own efforts. But if we live by the spirit it is by the power of the spirit that we meet God's standards in the law?
Teacher: That's right! Salvation is achieved by sanctification of the spirit and BELIEF in the gospel.
Student: where is that in the bible? because all I ever hear is just believe and i'll be saved, where does it say sanctification and belief is how we are saved?
2 Thessalonians 2:13 "God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth."
Student: I don't get it, I thought we were saved by faith ALONE and not by works. But this scripture is telling us that we are saved by sanctification and faith?
Teacher: That's incorrect. We are not saved by faith but rather by grace! We are saved by grace, through faith. So our faith enables us to get the grace that we are saved by! It is by God's grace that we have the holy spirit here to sanctifiy us. It is also by Grace that Jesus died for us, it is by grace that we can even repent!
Student: So is sanctification by the spirit considered works?
Teacher: Nope. sanctification by the spirit can't be works because works depends on our own efforts, santification by the spirit is by the POWER and GRACE of God. Sanctification by the spirit enables a believer to remain in Christ, and remaining in Christ causes us to have good works to go along with our faith.
Student: What do you mean "Remain in Christ"? Aren't all christian's in Christ?
Teacher: No! the scriptures actually warns that believers can get cut off from Jesus and be thrown into hell.
Student: WHAT!!!!! where is this in the bible?
john 15:5 “Yes, I am the Vine; you are the branches."
john 15:2 "Every branch which is part of me but fails to bear fruit, he cuts off;"
john 15:6 Unless a person remains united with me, he is thrown away like a branch and dries up. Such branches are gathered and thrown into the fire, where they are burned up.
Teacher: POINT PROVEN! It's obvious from the scriptures above that people/branches can get cut off from Christ for being unfruitful. It's also obvious that being cut off from Christ, means going to hell if you don't repent.
Student: what does it mean to be unfruitful?
Ephesians 5:don’t participate in the unfruitful actions of darkness. Instead, you should reveal the truth about them.
Teacher: The scripture above shows that "actions of darkness" leads to unfruitfulness. Therefore unfruitfulness must be SIN.
Student: So if "sin" can get people cut from Christ, how is it possible to remain in Christ? Don't we all sin constantly?
Teacher: Well no, we all don't sin constantly. Remember above you asked me " how come I still sin "? wait let me quote you.
Teacher:( QUOTE) "Student: But if God ended sins control over us, then how come I still sin?"
    Student: Yeah i remember that.
Teacher: After you asked me that I told you " But the root reason why believers sin is because they are not living according to the holy spirit, which enables a believer to live according to God's standards.
Student: So you're saying as long as a believer live according to the spirit he won't sin? therefore he will remain in Christ?
Teacher: Yes that is exactly what I am saying. The bible says we can now meet the requirements of God's law in romans 8:4. If we can meet the requirements of God's law, then this must means also that we don't sin, because sinning breaks God's law.
student: wait, let me add everything up. Love meets the standards of God's law, and God have laws for man to keep. But it's impossible to love each other by God's standards, therefore we can't possiblely keep his laws. Therefore God sent Christ as a sacrifice for sins, so we could get a new nature that stops us from breaking God's law. This new nature enables believers to meet the standards of God's law, because it causes us to love. Since the holy spirit/new nature enables believers to be loving according to God's standards, it also enables believers to meet the standards of God's law.
    Teacher: That is 100% CORRECT!
Student: wow this teaching is new to me, but I have other questions.
    Teacher: go on.
Student: I thought Jesus met God's standards for us and all we have to do is believe to recieve what he has done for us?
Teacher: I see your confusion. Jesus died to save believers from the power of sin that lead to death. That's why it's called salvation, because Jesus saves us from sin .
Student: I was taught differently. where is it in scripture that Jesus died to get rid of sin in our lives? I was taught that he died to take away the penalty for my sins not set me COMPLETELY free of sin.
1 Peter 2:24 Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross so that freed from our sins, we could live a life that has God's approval.
1 john 3:8 "The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil."
Romans 6:10 When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God.
Teacher: Jesus also died for the forgiveness of sins, but we only get our sins covered by his blood, if we walk in the light. Walking in the light is equal to living according to the spirit.
1 John 1:7 We should live in the light, where God is. If we live in the light, we have fellowship with each other, and the blood sacrifice of Jesus, God’s Son, washes away every sin and makes us clean.
Teacher: The key word there is (IF) which means there is a requirement for his blood covering. The requirement is that we walk in the light. The blood of Christ is what saves us, because it washes away our sins before God, but we need to be in Christ when we die to be covered. Not every believer is walking in the light, therefore not every believer will be covered.
    Teacher: So now lets recap.
    1.First there was man.
    2. then there was law.
    3. man then sinned against the law and then there was the sinful nature. (flesh)
    4. after the sinful nature beginned, it became impossible to keep God's law.
    5. as time went on, more laws were put in place and we failed again and again trying to keep the law.
    6. God knew that we couldn't meet his standards by keeping his law because our sinful nature made it impossible to keep his laws.
    7. Since our old sinful nature made it impossible to keep God's law, God gave us a new nature.
    8. This new nature (The Holy spirit) empowers us to keep God's law automatically, because it causes us to be loving.
    9. Now we don't have to sin, and can walk in righteousness because our sinful nature don't make us sin anymore.
    10. Now that the sinful nature doesn't make us sin anymore, we have no excuse to sin.
Teacher: Pretty much salvation is by two things. Sanctification by the spirit and belief in the gospel.
2 Thessalonians 2:13 God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
Teacher: Belief in the gospel starts us off in Christ, and sanctification by the spirit keeps us in Christ till the end if we live by the spirit.
Teacher: If you live by the spirit, you won't sin because living by the spirit meets the standards of God's law for you.
    Hope everyone enjoyed God bless.

"You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no wrong to a neighbor."- Romans 13.9-10
I would just like to say two things purely as one Christian to another, and in love. We will not be held accountable to the law by God, or else we will die on judgment day because neither you or I have kept them. Secondly, there is no need for the law if we love, because as Paul says love does no wrong to a neighbor, so if we pursue love, we do not need to pursue the law as our ethic or standard.

Correct to compare the law with the ten commandments - we - as non Jews - were never under the law - except the ten commandments - so it can show us the we are sinners in need of Christ. When we receive Christ as our Savior, the ten commandments already done its job. To still focus in the ten com. will just confuse and bring sin back in our life as Christians. How do I know? First of all its in the bible - specially Romans and Galatians. And trough my life I fall back into this because of human nature has a tendency to always want to go back to the ten commandments. But stay focus on Jesus Christ only - and Grace! There is no condemnation for those who are in Jesus Christ!

How many people have sinned (Rom 3:23)? What is the penalty of sin (Rom 6:23)? How do we know what sin is (Rom 7-7-25)? How are we saved (Isa 53:3-6)? In Colossians 2:14-17, what is the handwriting of ordinance and the sabbaths it is talking about (2 Chron 2:4; 33:8; Lev 23)? Was the ordinance written by God or by Moses (2 Chron 33:8)? What happened if we didn't keep the handwritten Law of Moses (Deut 28:15; 29:20-21; Gal 3:10)? Did Jesus take away the curse (Deut 21:23; Gal 3:13) So there is a difference between the Law of Moses and the Law of God, so should I keep the commandments of God(John 14:15; 1 John 2:2-6)? Does this include the Sabbath (Exo 20:8-11; Matt 5:18)? From the previous question, when does heaven and Earth pass away (Rev 20:11; 21:1)? Jesus is not only our savior but is also our Lord and King. A king has a law and yes it is of love. But if we don't keep the commandments of God, how do we love our Lord. What is it to love God with all our heart and soul and all our strength? The first 4 Commandments tell us. But we should also love our neighbor as ourselves if we love God. We should follow all of his commandments. God doesn't change. His law doesn't change. If it could be changed, there would have been no need of our Savior Jesus Christ. This is because God could've changed the law so we wouldn't be sinning. But we know that it isn't the law that is carnal or evil. It is us. The Law leads us to our Savior and Our Savior makes us want to keep his Law. He commands us to be perfect even as our Father in heaven is perfect. The Sabbath is memorial for what God has done and what God will do which is eventually to come again and give us the reward of being with him for all eternity. God bless to all of us. May we continue to study his word and follow him wherever we go. For in them you think you have life but these are they which testify of Christ. (John 5:39-47).

The condemnation of the law is the penalty given to those that break his commandments, not the commandments themselves. So now you are free to participate in orgies, drunkeness, homosex, etc....and it is all fine with the Father. So Jesus came to contradict his own Father?

I believe we are justified in Christ if we are: truly sorry for our sins, we truly believe in the cross and resurrection, and if people can see a change in our life. Because James 2:17 says faith without action is dead. I believe if you're truly saved by faith, you do things not because you're obligated to, but because the Holy Spirit leads you to. I believe a lot of people say they "believe" and just keep living life like nothing ever happened. True repentance + true belief + Christ = forgiveness. We sin everyday, thus we confess our sins everyday.

These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”
Similarly, Romans 14:5 states, “One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.” These Scriptures make it clear that, for the Christian, Sabbath-keeping is a matter of spiritual freedom, not a command from God.

Are the laws of Moses still in effect or not? Let’s look through some scriptures and see what it says about this. Hebrews 8:3 says that every high priest is ordained by God to offer gifts and sacrifices. So if this is true, we can ask the next relevant question to get us closer to the answer. Were there high priest after the death and ascension of christ until the destruction of the temple? History shows us that there were 17 high priest that served up until the destruction of the temple in 70 AD. The next logical question that I would ask would go as follows. Who is responsible for ordaining the high priest for the temple of God? According to Romans 13:1-6, God is responsible for ordaining all high priest that minister in his temple. So according to the bible, all 17 high priest were ordained by God to offer gifts and sacrifices in his temple. Also Romans 8:2 says,” Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.” If the laws of Moses are done away with, then why are people receiving damnation for not subjecting themselves to the ministers of God? Is the laws of Moses truly done away with or are they still in effect? While you’re contemplating your answer, please take the time to read the verses below. Shalom… #ReturnToTorah

Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. 6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

You are seriously confused. You are using the law unlawfully and confusing the intent of the Law-Giver with the role and purpose of law. Adventists do this all the time since EGW in her ignorance called the ten commandments a law of love. Such a claim is absurd.
The ten commandments was a law against SIN >>> SINFUL ACTS. UNLOVING ACTS. So clearly the ten commandments condemned the VERY OPPOSITE of love. Love does not go around taking God's name in vain; dishonouring parents, murdering people, stealing from them, etc etc. Love is ACTIVE in doing good not wrong (Gal 5:23)
The only "law of love" that existed under Torah were the two royal laws of God >>> for God and man.

Many have trouble understanding this, but the answer is a bit long while simple.
The old Law Covenant promised life unending to those who could without fail obey it, and eternal death to those who couldn't. All died, and all realized the LC was insufficient for salvation. Thus, the LC became s tutor to Christ. With Christ came the New Covenant. It contains many of the laws of the LC, but it also provides mercy for sinners which the LC does not. This was always God's intention from the beginning:
Gal 3:24 Darby So that the law has been our tutor up to Christ, that we might be justified on the principle of faith.
Mat 26:28 Darby For this is my blood, that of the new covenant, that shed for many for remission of sins.
Rom 10:5 Darby For Moses lays down in writing the righteousness which is of the law, The man who has practised those things shall live by them.
In the NC, we must live holy lives in Christ. If we live and practice serious sin, damnation is assured. If we live in Christ in faith salvation is assured though we are sinners:
Rom 10:13 Darby For every one whosoever, who shall call on the name of the Lord, shall be saved.
The laws pertaining to the temple, the priesthood, and many such laws belonged to the old LC and became obsolete. With Christ came a new priesthood with Christ becoming the eternal High Priest:
Heb 3:1 Darby Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Jesus,

Which laws are we talking about?
Because there are three kinds of laws.
    1. Ceremonial laws
    2. Civil laws
    3. Moral laws ( Ten commandments)
For us, Christians the civil and ceremonial laws are obsolete.
We do keep the tens commandments which do not conflict with the grace.
    - You shall not bow before idols.
    - You shall not kill.
    - You shall love the Lord your God with whole your heart.
Jesus our Lord and the apostles kept the commandments.
If you don't bow before idols it's because the laws of God forbid us to do so.

    Objection:
" I obey gods Ten Commandments because I am saved. We are saved by Grace but not freed from obedience."
    My answer:
    ...
If you are "saved" you are counted righteous and will BE (obedient from the heart) and you will NOT need law and certainly nobody today is under the Law of Moses. Only the unrighteous need law. Read 1Timothy 1:7-9 and you will see what I mean.
But, like so many Christians today, you seem unaware of the role of the Old Covenant, the "Ten Commandments". The Law of "Ten Commandments" merely pointed out sin and condemned it. It condemned OUTWARD acts that are "unrighteous", "criminal". Moreover, it was a NEGATIVE law. In other words, it condemned negative behavior. Put another way, it identified and condemned the ABSENCE of righteousness. And here is the crucial point I am making. It was NOT designed to provide obedience but to point out and prevent disobedience.
The Jews had the same misunderstanding that many have today. They went about TRYING to establish their own righteousness by the works of the Law; by keeping from doing anything which the Law might condemn. And they mistakenly believed that doing that KEPT them righteous before God. This objection is based on the same mistaken notion. It is tantamount to saying you are righteous in your heart (regenerate) but you must make sure you stay that way by what you do (obedience) >>> by not doing unrighteous acts (disobedience)! It is convoluted thinking; it is still about trying to be good in the flesh by trying not to be bad in the flesh. I am reminded of Paul rebuke:
    Galatians 3:3 (NIV)
Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?
In conclusion: If you are righteous then you do not need law because if your heart is right then, obviously, so will be your life; love works no evil to its neighbour..There is no law against love (i.e. law cannot find anything in love with which to find fault and to condemn.

@@anepicflyingbrick_4872 , we don't have to obey God. But we should. We are commanded to obey Him. His law has not changed. Jesus never once taught anything contrary to the God's law, but was *always* teaching against the traditions of man! Jesus condemned the Pharisees for making up their own traditions which broke God's law. This is exactly what the doctrine does that teaches we don't need to follow God's law because Jesus did it for us. Jesus did do it for us. And our Bible tells us to follow Christ! Not Christ did it for us so we don't need to. He was the ultimate sacrifice indeed. But my question is this: how much sense does it make for us to think that we can sin because Jesus took the curse of sin for us? I mean because Jesus didn't murder, i can murder? Of course none of us propose this example. But there are those who propose that because Jesus didn't eat pork, I can, even when God's law commands His people not to eat pork. Let me put this a different way: God's law teaches us what food is: that pork is not food, dog is not food, cat is not food, rat is not food, bunny is not food, catfish is not food, shrimp is not food, that (most of) these are scavengers and filthy, unhealthy things. I truly believe that God was trying to teach us what food is and what is not food. So many pull Jesus' teachings out of context. Example: they claim that Jesus taught that 'all meats are clean'. Some translations are outright demonic. What happens when we examine the *context* of when Jesus did say 'it is not what goes into a man that defiles him, but what comes out of him'. The context was Pharisees who added to God's Word with a 'tradition of man' which claimed that one must wash hands before eating. They questioned Him why His disciples don't wash their hands when they were eating *bread*, not meat. It was about washing hands, not about what meats to eat. Jesus taught that eating food that was already clean (bread) with unwashed hands, does not defile a man, but what defiles him is the words that come out from him. This passage is not a license to eat meat that the Bible teaches us is not even food. God's law teaches us that pork is not food. But the Pharisees add so much to God's law, that they even break God's law by the traditions that they add. For instance, it is not breaking God's law to eat a cheeseburger, but when i visited Israel, even today, the Pharisees go so far in adding to God's word, that we didn't find a restaurant in Israel that served cheeseburgers. McDonald's in Israel didn't have any cheese. The Pharisees frequently asked Jesus why His disciples broke the law, but they never broke God's law. It was always what man had added to God's law that Jesus and His disciples broke. Jesus upheld God's law, and taught that we shud too. 1st John teaches that sin is lawlessness. The old and new testament both teach us that God's law is freedom and it is truth and it is grace and it is a light unto our feet. It teaches us that the law that we are not to be under is the law of sin and death. When Paul taught that we are not under law but under grace, the only interpretation that does not contradict Scripture is that we are not under the law of sin and death, but under grace, that is under God's law, not under sin's law. 2nd Peter 3 warns us that Paul's teaching are hard to understand, and that many ignorant twist his words. I was ignorant and twisted Paul's words when i didn't know any better. Now I've seen the light, that God's law is good and holy and truth and freedom and it is grace. It teaches us what food is. :)

God does not make mistakes so why would he get rid of a perfect law that he wrote from his finger? he said if you love me keep my commandments. why would you not want to spend a special day each week with just you and the Lord? could it be that alot of people are just selfish and don't want to keep the Sabbath because they want to do their own thing on that Day? I love how most preacher's tell you to keep the commandments but when you talk about the 4th one they say we are not under the law. The law that was done a way with was the sacrifices, ceremonial and ordinances. they where in the side of the arc and the ten commandments where in the top of the arc. Jesus said think not that I have come to destroy the law but fulfill. for verily I say unto you till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. whosoever therefore break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. So why would God abolish a perfect law? I believe the answer to that is, that he had something better for us than a perfect law, and that is, his perfect grace, his sinless grace, his holy grace, his justifying grace, his maturing grace, his abundant grace, his everlasting grace. It's much better than a law that was only to be in force temporarily. So are Christians under the ten commandments? Should I be glad the apostle Paul never said, Don't let any man judge you concerning lying, killing another for no good reason, concerning honoring your father or mother, or committing adultery, or Don't let anyone judge you for not loving God, or not loving your neighbor, because such things are not the real thing to come, but are only a shadow? I'm glad he didn't, aren't you?

Why not spend special time every day with the Lord? Paul never said "Let no man judge you concerning ...lying, cheating, stealing. honoring father or mother". etc, but he did mention about Sabbath days. Sometimes people put themselves under the keeping of days, when they don't need to. Maybe God would have us about some other things instead, like living by the Spirit in the liberty that Jesus paid so dearly for, and not becoming prisoners under bondage concerning things of the law. A lot of people have fallen into that sort of thing, and the Lord wants us free of all that. But if you want to spend one day, all day in rest and worship, prayer, whatever, by all means, one is free to do so and enjoy the benefits of that. There is nothing wrong with that.

We should do our daily devotionals everyday, not just the Sabbath day. we should pray daily, etc but the Sabbath is a special day to just spend time with our Lord and Savior. We don't go to work, buy or sell, we don't do our daily chores. That is what makes it different then any other day. We still have to work on each day other then the Sabbath day. Do you really think that God would make 10 perfect laws and then decide to just do away with one and not even tell us he did that? Man changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. God says if you love me keep my commandments. We keep them because we love him and its not a burden. Try it yourself, just one Sabbath and see if you don't get a blessing yourself, just by spending special time with just you and Jesus. Paul did talk about Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances.....Paul is talking about the ceremonial laws of Moses. The commands contained in ordinances are the laws written in the book of the law by Moses, not the Ten commandments written on stone by the finger of God himself.

Do you really think that the apostle Paul did not get his information from Jesus who died on the cross for your sins? So let me ask you, Was the apostle Paul's ministry of God or was it of men, when he said the things he did about Sabbath days? Did he say anything like that about anything else in the ten commandments? How does what Paul the apostle said about the Sabbath days, come into compliance with the law? Did you not know that we are no longer under the law, but under grace? Did you not know that Jesus put an end to the law in his own body on the cross? That's right he killed it. He nailed it. He made for a higher way, a better way.

Christ did not put an end to the WHOLE LAW but a specific kind of law
Col 2:14 and Eph 2:15 is very specific on what kind of law that was ended. This specific law are the ORDINANCES.
"Blotting out the handwriting of ORDINANCES...."
      Col 2:14
"...even the law of commandments contained in ORDINANCES....."
      Eph 2:15
ORDINANCES are the law referring to SACRIFICES and OFFERINGS.
"For the LAW HAVING A SHADOW OF GOOD THINGS to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those SACRIFICES which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect."

For those who get hung up on the Sabbath, I would recommend listening to the words of Jesus on the subject. Jesus is Lord over the Sabbath. Jesus explained that the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. When you abide in Christ through the Holy Spirit, you can be in "Sabbath rest" any day or night. Therefore Jesus has now become our Day, and our Rest. He is our New Wine that replaces the old in a better way.

I do think it's going to be hard to focus on Jesus when you have a busy day job (e.g. restaurant) and your boss is shouting instructions at you.
If the law is in your heart it means you want to keep the Sabbath rather than it being a boring day you can't wait for it to finish so you can hit the nightclub!
Some people think "Not under the law" means to be "Above the law" as in being lawless won't send you to Hell eventually. This is not what it means. It means you are no longer awaiting the death penalty (reduction to ashes in Hell fire). Becoming a new creation changes your key desire from "I want to break the law, the law is annoying to keep but maybe I'll give it a shot if I get material gain/avoid fiery death" to "I long to do your will, your law is my delight!"

      ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30‬ ‭NASB‬‬
What do you think this means? Perhaps pretend these are the first verses in the next chapter and read on, then you will understand why He is the Lord of the Sabbath.
Also, understand what Jesus is quoting here!
“It is to be a sabbath of solemn rest for you, that you may humble your souls; it is a permanent statute.”
      ‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭16:31‬ ‭NASB‬‬
We are NOT under the Law, but why would we not walk just as he walked?? Wouldn't that make us closer to Jesus, if we walked with him? If we did what he did in addition to doing what he says. He told us that while the teachers were in the chair of Moses, to do what they say and NOT what they do.
“Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them.”
      ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:1-3‬ ‭NASB‬‬
But should we apply this to Jesus? Shouldn't we do as He said AND as He did??
“By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.”

    19:16-29pp-Mk 10:17-30; Lk 18:18-30
16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
    18 “Which ones?” he inquired.
Jesus replied, “ ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ h and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”

he's not saying we can do as we please, just that we approach obedience in a different way.
our deepest problem is our self-centeredness that comes out as greed, arrogance, selfishness, envy, unfaithfulness, lust etc. one way God dealt with it was to provide a list of rules that itemize some things that are wrong so that we can avoid them. But God only did that as a "nanny" for his people to teach them about holiness and love. What really counted was something internal: "circumcising" their hearts.
ultimately though, the approach of solving the problem of human nature via keeping a list of rules fails. as we see in romans 7, "i have the desire to do what is good but i cannot carry it out." in the end "the commandment ... brought death".
instead God gave us the new commandment, to do good and care for one another and not hurt each other. if that is our way of life, we don't end up breaking the commandments. if we focus on having a good character with qualities such as kindness and peace and faithfulness and so on, then we'll end up keeping the commands anyway.

The Law was a schoolmaster that taught, through its incomplete revelation, man's need of Christ.
A friend said "An independent consciousness of man could not... move from types and figures to substance or move from natural to spiritual as a journey." I personally have always believed the types and figures as set forth in The Law is an irresistible argument for the existence of God, for if scripture is not inspired by God, then you have the impossible situation where man has invented something wherewithal he teaches himself what he already knows! And a dead give-away that he does NOT know, is when he gets stuck in the "box" of types and figures and shadows.

  • @Kryptic712

This is my take on this so far.
We are not under the Law, Gods grace allows us to have human error, where the Jewish law did not allow for human imperfection.
Jesus came and said that you can fulfil the Law and the commandments through Loving God above all else and loving your fellow man like yourself.
If you do not do those things not only do you not know God, you also do not fulfil the Law or the commandments.
If you are saved and do not love God, you do not know him and he will turn from you.
You can't just call yourself a Christian and proceed to be immoral forever and just presume your spot on the book.
We're called to relationship with God because he first wanted a relationship with us.
So if you are a Christian and do not love others or God, then what on earth are you doing? There is no justification, no cheap route away from this.

Wrong. The Torah is for ALL Israel (Mal.4:4;Jer.31:31-33;Heb.8:8-10), not just the "Jewish" people.
And, Torah ALLOWS for imperfections (e.g., unintentional sins, Nu.15:25).
"Jesus came and said that you can fulfil the Law"
FULFILL does not prove ABOLISHED (e.g., see Mt. 5:17).
And, Mt. 5:19 proves ALL Torah is still in force!

  • @brianhyde5900

When read in its first century context, the New Covenant is not laws against sin, but Christ living in the believer so that they would walk in His Spirit they would't sin. The problem with law is our flesh, which tries to obey it. But God has given His Spirit to everyone, that they may walk righteously, in His Spirit, not in their own fleshly efforts at living good enough lives by obeying law.
It seems that nothing is harder for a believer to grasp, than what Paul meant, when he said, "It is no longer I, but Christ!" It REALLY is no longer I. It is Christ, living His own life through the believer, as he trusts Him by believing what He said to him through the Spirit of Truth. (Cp. Romans 8:3)
Don't make the fleshly mistake of thinking you can figure it all out by just studying the words of Christ in the Gospel records. Remember what He told the disciples the night He was betrayed, "I have many more things to teach you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the SPIRIT OF TRUTH, comes, He will guide you into all truth... (John 16:12-13). This, I believe, carries the same message in God's words (found in Jeremiah 31:31-33) when He indicated a time would come when He would speak to each heart and all would know His will directly.
The things that God tells through His Spirit are just as much the word of God as what Jesus spoke through His own lips. He is the Living Word. If you think the NT believers had life by reading "1,000 new testament commandments" (as somebody has suggested might be the case) then you are greatly mistaken and have not grasped Christ's words and do not understand the New Covenant.
Spiritual truth is not proscribed by law -- of commandments, whether 10, 100 or 1,000 -- it is infinite in scope. There is so much that God wants to teach us, if we are ready to learn. He does not need a book, no matter how inspired. to do it. The "Spirit of Truth" will guide us into all truth.

Although the events predicted in Hebrew prophecy are literal, the way they are described is in end-of-world cosmic language. The prediction of the first destruction of Jerusalem used exactly the same end-of-world cosmic language. Hebrew is replete with highly exaggerated figures of speech and metaphor. The law is now written on our hearts. Knowing our human nature, God knows that we’re imperfect so He sent His son not only to fulfill the law but also save us by grace. It just means we will not be condemned by the law since we are not "married" to the law as John Piper put it. The fulfilling of the Old Testament Law was in the loving others through the inner leading of the Spirit of Grace. The inner leading of the Spirit of Grace, is in scripture sometimes called the "law of liberty" and the "law of Christ."
Looking back in the context of first centry, "the Law of liberty" sees Christians, who have never been under the Law, pursuing love in liberty from law-keeping (Christ being the ground of their justification or the power of their sanctification). They are pursuing love by the "law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus" (Rom 8:2). They are looking to the Spirit of Christ for transformation so that love flows by power from within, not pressure from without.
In Christ they have been set free and have become a new creature. But they are urged not to forget this and to abide in this knowledge.
James 1:25: “But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.”
“The law of liberty” or the “perfect law of liberty” was the leading of the Spirit, and "where the Spirit is, there is freedom" (2Cor 3:17).
Jesus said “abide in Me”. Precisely how were Christians to “abide in Him”?
The answer is by faith knowing the oneness of their our spirit with His Spirit, for Jesus is Spirit and they are united and one spirit with Him (1Cor 6:17; cp John 17:23). Hence, they were always to abide in the Spirit for where the Spirit is there is freedom, as the following further explains:
Romans 8:1: “The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free …"
John 8:38: “He who the son sets free is free indeed."
Galatians 5:1: “It is for freedom Christ has set us free.”
Free from what and free in what?
Romans 7:6: "But now we {Jewish Christians} are discharged from the Law and have terminated all intercourse with it, having died to what once restrained and held us captive. So now we serve not under [obedience to] the old code of written regulations, but [under obedience to the promptings] of the Spirit in newness [of life]." (Amp.).
It is not out of obedience or obligation but out of inspiration by the Spirit of God.
Christ had set believers FREE, free from bondage of sin and death and free from “the law of sin and death” (context>>> “the ten commandments” - 2Cor 3:6) which, because of their sin, yoked them up to itself (Gal 5:1), so that by “the Spirit of Life” that is in Him, they would be free to serve God in their spirit.
Galatians 5:1 “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
If they were free then, how much more free are we today!

“Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.””
      ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:37-40‬ ‭NIV‬‬
The commandments ARE based in loving God and loving people. The Ten Commandments are essentially a summary of the 613 commandments contained in the Old Testament Law. The first four commandments deal with loving God. The last six commandments deal with loving your neighbor. Again, it doesn’t say it was abolished.
      Second,
“It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least STROKE of a pen to drop out of the Law. “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”
      ‭‭Luke‬ ‭16:17-18‬
In other words not a single word (Commandment) of the law will pass.... it’s easier that earth and heaven ‬‬would pass than the law. Again, it doesn’t say law is abolished.
Now I know what I wrote is kinda long but PLEASE read the following with time , this explains Paul throughout his letters.
The New Covenant between God and us is that the Law of God will no longer be written in stone but OUR Hearts. Again, in Jeremiah it never says its abolished. The Law of God is still active.
Romans 6:14 it’s clear! We live under the grace because we don’t live in sin. Whoever violates the Law through sin (because sin is violation of the Law 1John 3:4) will live under the Law. Therefore we ought not take advantage of the grace to live in sin! We’re under the Law ONLY when we live in sin!
You gotta make sense why Paul seems to contradicts the Law all over his letters. Because you and I know that he says that the law is holy and then he seems to change his stance about the law saying the law is a curse in which itself is a paradox! By common sense we realize that Paul is talking about different laws throughout his letters the law of God (also known as law of faith, law of the spirit), law of sin (law of the flesh), and works of law ( earthly human laws, or man made religious laws)
That’s why it’s important to read VERY carefully, because it’s easy to get confused to understand what Paul is trying to tell us. We MUST understand first that Paul throughout his letter is NOT talking about same laws! With that being said, we understand that Paul talks about different laws. The Law of God, the Works of Law, and law of sin. Again, These three are NOT the same!
      So let’s read the following:
“So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law (this is the law of sin, NOT the law of God. If we keep reading, then we can understand he’s talking about the law of sin) through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. For when we were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law (this is the law of sin)were at work in us(it’s clear he’s talking the law of sin) , so that we bore fruit for death. But now, by dying to what once bound us (the law of sin), we have been released from the law (again, this is NOT the law of God) so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? (Now, he’s talking about the law of God) Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law (law of God). For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law (law of God) had not said, “You shall not covet.””
      ‭‭Romans‬ ‭7:4-7‬ ‭NIV‬‬
That’s why Paul made it clear when he said, “I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the LAW OF GOD; but with the flesh the law of sin.”
      ‭‭Romans‬ ‭7:25‬ ‬‬
Now right here, we must rationalize and ask: why is it that Paul says that the law is not sinful when he just spoke the contrary? Well that’s because he’s talking about the Law of God! Not the law of sin!
If we read the following passages we can also understand when we read:
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in KEEPING ( This is The Law of God) this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. (If you start hating your neighbor at heart you’re breaking the law of God!)
For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. ( We KEEP the Law when we’re BEING LED by the Spirit, therefore we don’t live under the Law as we don’t live in sin) ”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:13-15, 17-18‬ ‭that’s why criminals are prosecuted under the law in which they failed to abide.
Jesus spoke about the Law all the time. If the Law was changed to a new law, then we have a changing god. God himself is unchanging.
We’re saved through Jesus by grace, we don’t live according to the law to be saved, but once saved through the Messiah we have to live according to the Law of God.

You don’t live according to the law to be saved, but once saved through grace, we live according to the Law. If a cop gives doesn’t issue you a ticket it was because of grace. I choose not to live under the "ministry of death carved in letters of stone" (II Cor. 3:7) as you so proudly declare. Enjoy the curse of choosing to live under the ministry of death while following an obsolete covenant .

John 14:15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
This verse does not say “Keep the Commandments” as in 10 Commandments. It does say “Keep My Commandments.” Jesus is saying to keep his commandments, not the 10 Commandments.
Jesus has many, many commandments recorded in Scripture. One example is Matthew 5:21-22 where Jesus says:
"You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment. But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, 'You fool!' will be liable to the hell of fire.”
Jesus takes one of the 10 commandments and adds to it by saying that if you get so angry as to have thoughts of murder, then you are liable to hell fire. The 10 commandments on murder does not include thoughts of murder, but now Jesus adds anger leading to thoughts of murder even though the act of murder did not occur.
Jesus has commands which are not found in the 10 commandments such as Matthew 5:22-23. I agree, keep Jesus commandments.

The Greek word "nomos" is a direct reference to the Mosaic law and "entole' is a generic word referencing laws or edits. If John knew Jesus was referring to the Mosaic law he would have used "nomos", but he did not he used "entole"

Those who question (Don't believe) that the 10 commandments are done away immediately ask if it's okay to kill and commit adultery. BUT the real issue at hand is the fact that the pharisees were trying to gain salvation through the works of the law by simply not committing murder and adultery. Christ then came and established His law saying that if you have hate and lust you are guilty. This is the root of the issue, that Christ wants us to bear Fruit, but not just look for external commandments to guide us (Matthew 7:15-20). It is only by having Christ that we can do what God truly wants us to do (John 15:5). And that is why we are to look to His Spirit instead of the law (2 Corinthians 3:6-17). Those who look to the Old law are looking backwards that will cause you to look away from Christ, who is a better Covenant (Galatians 4:21-5:6, Romans 7:4-6, Hebrews 7:12-22). When we bear fruit we are walking in the truth of the Spirit, which is higher than the law; therefore no need of it.
Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

Christ is the end of the law for those who believe so we can serve in newness of Spirit rather than by the old letter of the law (Romans 7:4-6). To try and keep the Old covenant law will cause you to fall from Grace (Galatians 4:21-5:6) Because the law is not of Faith (Galatians 3:12) and voids Faith (Romans 4:13-14) That is why the apostles opposed keeping the law (Acts 15:5-24).

One of the greatest errors in Christianity today is the idea that "lawlessness" is defined in terms of breaking old covenant "ten commandments". Consequently, whenever a discussion of "obedience" arises, speakers or writers will tend to draw heavily from biblical texts that focus on "commandments", which they assume are a reference to "the ten commandments". They do this in support of a definition that "lawlessness" is breaking "the ten commandments". It is my submission that this ideology actually contradicts the new covenant gospel of the Spirit.
In Galatians 2:19, Paul explains that the believer is by the operation of the Law, "dead" to the Law so that he can "serve" God. Christ crucified is dead to the Law for the Law has no authority over a dead man. Christ, as man, was under the authority of the Law and is now under His own authority, as Son of God He did that, not for Himself, but as our Substitute. Certain men (Jews) who were once under authority to the Law, are now under authority to the Spirit of the Son of God and, as are all men, to relate to the Son through "the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:2). Paul says elsewhere that he had died (had been crucified with Christ) in order that Christ's life might be revealed in him, which is another way of saying that he is now under authority to Christ -- relating to God through the "law of life" in His Spirit, which we know to be, Love. In Romans 7:4-6 the Apostle instructs believers to "serve" God "not in the old way" of "ten commandments" ("the written code") but "in the new way of the spirit". This ostensibly interprets their walk with God not in terms of obedience to commandments, as one did under the Law, but in terms of obedience to spiritual laws, as one now under Christ's Spirit. Hence, when Paul in Romans 7 says the believer is "dead" to the Law and is "released" from the Law, his meaning is not that the believer is free from the restraint of moral authority but the nature of that authority has changed and because it has changed the way of relating to God has changed.
What is the difference? What is the difference between relating to God by way of "commandments" and relating to God by way of spiritual laws? The answer is very simple. But before looking at the difference, let's look at the similarities.
The way of commandments was about not doing wrong and not doing wrong was measured by the standard of the theocratic Law of Moses with its representative "ten commandments" ("ten words"). The way of the Spirit is about not doing wrong as measured by the spiritual imperatives (standards) revealed by the Spirit. The way of the Law was to talk in terms of legal behaviour, judged accordingly. The way of the Spirit is to talk in terms of spiritual behaviour, judged accordingly.
The difference is that the way of the Law did not empower you to do what it commanded because it could not empower you to be genuinely right in your spirit, whereas the way of the Spirit can and does. The way of the Law was to speak to "the flesh" and this resulted in an outward conformity. The way of the Spirit is to speak to "the spirit" and by His grace empower you resulting in an "inner conformity" that automatically takes care of an "outward conformity".
For instance, the Law said "Do not steal" So you "kept" the Law by not stealing. The Spirit says "do not steal" and at the same time, the Spirit empowers you to love your neighbour and this results in a desire not to harm him in any way; consequently "love works no harm to its neighbour". Under the Law you might be keeping the Law outwardly while inwardly you were morally guilty of stealing because of an intent there. Under the Spirit you are not stealing outwardly because inwardly there is no intent -- because you genuinely love him.
"Lawlessness" today is living in such a way that you do not abide by right principles. Under theocratic Israel these principles were encoded by God in "ten words". Believers today are spiritually accountable to God in the way already shown but they are not accountable to an ancient theocratic code. As citizens of nation states, they are accountable to the law of their home nation and its immeidate society. Society is structured along the lines of the rights of the individual and the community at large. We serve God and others by being faithful citizens. "Lawlessness" is defined in terms of anti-social behaviour and "anti-social behaviour" is proscribed by criminal law. As believers, we serve God by faithfully upholding these laws except those, of course, that we cannot for conscientious reasons.

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." John 17 :1-3
Now, may we conclude that your reluctance to define the New Covenant, suggests that you are unwilling to divulge who your real father actually is?

I think that those who follow the old covenant Law of Ten Commandments as their guide have a narrow view of what was called 'sin' under the Law. And if you have a narrow view of 'sin' ['doing wrong' - new covenant] then you will have a narrow view of righteousness.
How do you define sin or wrong doing?
A favourite text used by some today is 1 John 3:4 -
“for sin is a transgression of the law”
Thus sin is defined in terms of an immoral act under the old covenant Law.
Yet if you think about it carefully, the word ‘sin’ or 'wrong doing', is wide-ranging and includes not just immoral acts. Sin, or wrong doing, is the result of immoral thoughts, feelings, intents and purposes of the heart and mind. These are areas that go much deeper than mere outward acts that might be specifically proscribed by law.
What we need then is a definition that reflects the cause and scope of sin or wrong doing.
That definition, in my personal opinion, is --
    Selfishness
Selfishness is the antithesis of love
Love, as we know, was counted the same as if you had fulfilled all and every detail of the Mosaic Law.
Selfishness is self-seeking. It promotes self-interests, usually at the expense of others.
Self sits on the throne of the heart, usurping the place where Yeshua should be.
Not one of us is immune to selfishness. Sometimes we don't even realise how selfish we are. Even those who are led by the Spirit struggle, with this issue of self. The spiritually-minded must also be very careful in this area because self is insidious. And self is such a stumbling block. It causes so many problems in our lives.
Selfishness begins in the mind. How proper then that Paul urges his audience to "examine* themselves in this area. He speaks of “casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God” and “bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Cor 10:5) and to exercise themselves in always having a conscience void of offense toward God and toward men (Acts 24:16).
Sounds ideal doesn't it? Yet, I can't do that and I have never met anyone else who could do that -- at least not all the time. And since nobody can do that all the time, -- we will always come short and fail to do that all the time -- then we are always in need of grace all the time.
    * See 2 Corinthians 13:5-10. How do we examine ourselves? “To examine yourself, in fact, is to "submit to the examination and scrutiny" of the Spirit of Christ - and thus "never to fix attention on sin but on Christ - and to ask Him to reveal that in you which grieves His Spirit; “Now, what is it to have Jesus Christ in you? …Christ in the heart means Christ believed in, Christ beloved, Christ trusted, Christ espoused, Christ communed with, Christ as our daily food, and ourselves as the temple and palace wherein Jesus Christ daily walks.” (Spurgeon)
It is reasonable to say therefore, that although John’s definition of sin is technically correct, it is patently limited in how it reflects the scope of sin. It is an old covenant definition that simply does not address the cause of sin but deals only with its effects.

So would you say that I can kill or covet something that doesn't belong to me? There's a difference betwwen moral and ceremonial law! The firt one will endure while God doesn't come and the ceremonial law that appointed to Christ died with Him and didn't rised up with him on logical grounds. The big problem of John Piper is that he doesn't know where 'dovetail' the ten commandments. If in the Ceremonial (what he does) or in moral Law (what's right to do)

Davi Gaspar Yes you are free to kill or covet -- just like Adam was, just like Christ was...that's the freedom we have. But if you love God and your fleelow man you even so much as desire to hurt them... you want what is good for them, not what is harmful to them.
The Law only condemned the outward act and not the motive. So under the old covenant Law you could refrain from murder and this counted as "keeping" the law, yet in the meantime you might be hating in your heart. This is how the Pharisees lived. The law of love (under the new covenant), however, goes to the root of the problem -- the intents and purposes of the heart working a transformation there so that you do not even desire -- that's what is meant by the metaphor of "writing the law on the heart "
Your division of the Mosaic Law into two elements is purely arbitrary and finds no basis in scripture. When the Law was still in force you had to behave in such a way that you were not condemned by the Law for a single act. And you had to do that with all the Mosaic Law. If you broke one single law (no matter what it pertained to) it was counted as breaking the ENTIRE Law. So your argument is a false one.
Besides the Law and the Prophets passed away with the Jewish nation in AD70.

Brian Hyde That's why it's too important to know the history of the Church. This manner of thinking is too modern. In the history of the church we don't see this until these two last centuries. We need to study the Bible a little bit more.

Brian Hyde How so, no basis in Scripture? Brother, If you claim that you're condemning the sufficiency of Scripture. It would no longer be the rule of faith and practice of the believer. And if it's wrong to say that there's a division, so claimming that the signals that appointed to Christ and the moral rules are the same thing, what's not truth. In the final day, why will God condemn people like Dayweed85 , if there's no basis to accuse him. The moral law remains, that ceremonil laws that appoited to the coming of Christ are all gone because they are not necessary.

I think it's important to insist one more time in the argues of the history of the church. This is a modern thinking, suspect of that like it would be a bad-interpretation of the Bible. Read the reformers, Piper as human-being he understands how great and glorious our God is, but , unfortunatelly, he makes confusion in his theological theories.
