  • Police said strange sounds could be heard coming from his garage - but Mark Twitchell had notified his neighbors that he would be filming a movie, and told them to disregard the noise.

*Edit:* hi, I felt like I should copy down the letter (it was a DM but whatever) from the couple and let you read their reasonings for themselves. It was in the book the guy wrote. I wrote it word for word, except I made it into 2 paragraphs so it wasn’t just a huge block of text. Here you go:
_Hello my friend, just wanted to talk to you to tell you I am very sorry about the events that transpired on October 3. I know you just met us, but you should know that Trevor is a wonderful man, and on that night he really did want to help you, but his love for me is what stopped him. He loves me more than any love I’ve ever seen in movies or real life, and all he wants is for me to be safe and happy. I was so scared that night as soon as I saw that mask it was like every nightmare I’ve ever had come back to me and I thought “oh my god, this is actually it, the end.” I thought that the 2 of you were setting us up to rob (and it was the ONE time I went walking without taking anything with me but a house key) and that we were going to die. (I know you know that feeling.) if I hadn’t been there Trevor would have carried you to the hospital I’m sure, but his biggest worry was me. It was my fault we ran away. I was so scared and so panicked and I just wanted to get out of there. Trevor was stuck between thinking you were going to rob us and that you actually DID need our help. It was probably the biggest shock of both of our lives. When we ran home (we weren’t very fit at the time so it took longer than it should have), we called my mom and then the Police. Once the police came (there was a LOT of them, at least 5 and they had 2 dogs), Trevor took them back to the spot where the incident happened._
_When nothing came of it and no one came forward to the Police we were so positive that had been a set up for us to be robbed, but still Trevor worried about you. He hated himself for leaving and probably woulda tackled that fucker had I not been there. He thought about you every day and wondered. Then all the stuff started coming out and it was so overwhelming. Trevor started thinking that his coworkers were the masked man. Anyways, that wasn’t the point, but please know that Trevor so desperately wanted to help you, but his love for me and his need to make sure I was safe won out. He wouldn’t abandon the love of his life when there was a chance that I could be hurt. He beats himself up daily now, thinking that he could’ve done more to help you and to save Johnny. I try to tell him he did all he could but it never helps. I hate Mark Twitchell with everything in my body for messing with us but hopefully he gets exactly what he deserves. And I hope you are ok too. If someone asked me today to name my “hero” I’d have to say it’s a tossup between you and Trevor, you fought so hard for your life when you had to, and I know Trevor would die for me if it ever came to that. I thought facing the bastard I’d feel better but he didn’t even look at me. Assface. I hope he rots in hell and that someday I will get a full night’s sleep... lol._

What I find incompetent is that the drain was near his house so how good did investigators look. How did they not have a radius from his home searching every sewer as they expanded out. Then they say "just a block from where they stopped searching". Yet the reporter says the drain was close to his house. Them investigators barely lifted a drain cover outside of his street probably!
What's also odd is that he is a self proclaimed serial killer... so where are the other bodies. There's no way he was just beginning. A mind like that would have a history of sadistic encounters. He targeted men because they're easily lured. But he might have tried with women first and though not killed one, he is probably a violent rapist or date rapist.

If society hadn’t put this ideal masculine idea on him maybe he would’ve been comfortable enough to go to the police and it could’ve saved someone’s life.

Feeling ashamed and having low self esteem is not a social construct. It's as old as humanity and happens in every kind of society. You just projected your personal ideology on this case, but you have no right to speak for the victim. He can speak for himself and probably doesn't want to be used for ideological propaganda.
