I love that you share how you modified your older son’s room to fit his needs instead of starting over from scratch. Shows that we can still be flexible
Thanks! Sometimes we can get so focus on how things are “supposed to look”, but every home is different and you have to do what works for your home! This is what worked for us :). Thank you for the encouragement!
Good morning, Tara. 2 suggestions and 1 request. Space in the fridge on bottom shelf for their food and large mirrors in bedroom at floor level. Love your setup! Could you film your children working with the materials so parents see how to guide them at home? i.e. how to give a lesson? As a former AMI Primary teacher, I'm very impressed with all you've done and love ❤ your channel!
Thanks for watching! We’ve moved since I made this video and we have updated a few things. One of the updates is a fridge in our coffee bar that the kids have access to! Large mirrors are a great idea, we currently do have mirrors, but they are smaller, I will look into that! I have a lots of video ideas for the fall!!
I’m glad you addressed the wooden vs not wooden . I have a old fujifilm camera that doesn’t fully develop the poloroid and I was wondering if it was a good “ Montessori toy “ or if I should get a wooden one but this answered my question thank you !!
I'm so glad this was helpful! I wish I had known that from the beginning as well, it makes so much sense! Not everything has to be wooden, we have lots of plastic toys that do a better job of representing things than wooden ones!
Love your environment especially with how much effort you have gone into to making certain areas of your home accessible for your children! ❤️❤️❤️ Yes, you are so right about Montessori at home being different to a Montessori centre. I worked in a couple of Montessori centres and now I’m doing Montessori at home (and loving it)!
Thank you so much for your comment! I'm glad you liked the video! I've noticed the environment is constantly changing as my kids get older and I've been loving figuring out what works best at each moment in their development! That is great that you worked at Montessori centers and are now doing Montessori at home! What a wonderful experience that must have been.
@@TaraWilloughby You're welcome 😄. Yes, it was a wonderful experience and it really helped me to discover what I truly wanted to do (work from home). Isn't it amazing how often you find yourself changing the environment around? Sometimes I swear I've only changed it a week ago but turns out it was more like 3 weeks ago! Lol.
Really glad to see you transform what you have to make a Montessori home work! Modeling creative problem solving for your kiddos :) A potty in the room may not be traditional Montessori BUT in a Montessori school, the bathroom is usually quite easily accessible from any room during naps and, of course, the whole building is "child proof". That's definitely not always (or hardly ever) going to be possible in a regular home, so I'd say your set up is as closely aligned as is safely possible at home 🤷🏼♀️ LOVE the little fridge idea-that is really taking it to the next step. Kudos to you, mama!
Thank you! I love that each Montessori home is different. What works for one family may be different from another. I'm glad you enjoyed a look into how we Montessori in our home!! :)
Very good tips and tricks. My daughter is 2 and we are thinking of enrolling her in a Montessori school. It’s good to know it’s not to late and I don’t necessarily have to start over with all of her things.
Adorable children💕 I am going to reimagine some areas of my classroom from some of your ideas, thank you so much. I love the cleaning tools, great for our lunch area, and the toy shelves.😊
I love what you’ve done with your space for your family! We opted out of the floor bed since we co-sleep but we have a surprisingly similar set up I think for our 2yo. Her nursery includes all of her play things and her bookshelves are traditional but she loves books and will read easily 30 in a day so it works for us. I’ve just begun transforming our kitchen for her too and I love the high chairs you use. I will definitely be looking for one. Thank you for sharing your home with us. ❤️
I love this! My little one is getting to the age where I am transforming one area at a time for Montessori. Your great videos have inspired me to start my own Montessori youtube channel 😬

very inspiring !I love it specially because you are doing this for your little ones. just a comment in the video 9:44 in the kitchen would be great if you relocate or move the knife set from the counter .the house is beautiful and you have everything flexible for the kids. congratulations !!
It is from the squatting potty that can be two sizes. It’s two pieces that stack together, I just took them apart and put the smaller one with the toddler potty.
Simplicity is key. Thanks for sharing. My only concern was the knives on the counter being so accessible to your little one. Otherwise very informative.
Hey! It was pretty smooth because I didn’t change everything all at once, it was a gradual process. I started with the playroom and that was probably the hardest part because I started rotating toys and he didn’t understand why some toys were missing. Talking through the process and including them (as much as possible) helps. Most of the other elements were making things more accessible and child friendly, and including him in more daily tasks and decisions.

My twins are approaching their 2nd birthday and we have all stuff locked and hidden away, even all pullers off the drawers because I’m terrified that one will close it and snap the other’s fingers. How do you deal with that? Or I have to hide their chairs and table as they keep climbing in them and push each other off. I too want to do more Montessori approach but not sure how without letting them hurt each other or making the house a mess. I mean those drawers in kitchen and bathroom , all content would be out the entire day! How did you get yours to use these and put away? Great video by the way!
My best friend has twins and I think you have to be more strategic with twins. You have two kids at the same developmental stage, that is so much harder! I lock everything up that I don’t want my kids to have access to. This is going to be different for you since you have two. My younger son copies my oldest, so there are things I can do with him that I couldn’t have done with my first at the same age. Start small, and try to stick to a routine, keeps things consistent even if they don’t seem to get it at first, repetition and exposure is key. Children need options, but limited options. And with twins I know that makes things so much harder. It sounds like you are doing amazing! Keep it up and do what works for you! Your mental health is more important than if things are “Montessori”. No one should be having to clean up tons of messes all day to achieve a Montessori home. Follow your children, and start with their interest!
It is the Dyson kids vacuum. I’ve seen them on Amazon and target. We got ours second hand. It does suction, but the suction is very weak. I wouldn’t suggest this vacuum if you are looking for one that will do any actual vacuuming.
That's all I need to hear, it's officially added to my wishlist. We have tile floors so this will be great for him seeing that it's really helping vs a toy vacuum that rattles! Good find 😂
Yeah, problem is my kids toy room is filled floor to ceiling with toys, there's no way in a million years I'd be able to simplify it this much. And it's literally driving me crazy. I got into an argument with my grandmom this morning because every single time she comes here she brings another toy, I can't take it anymore
What is keeping you for be able to simplify? I have some videos on toy rotation if you are interested in giving that a try! I also feel so overwhelmed with the amount of toys we have and get from family. Being able to rotate them has made a huge difference!
I am old, I know, but I don’t think buying all that “extra” stuff like the toddler toilets, little fridge, etc….. is necessary to raise a well balanced, educated, capable child….
So proud of my wife!

I never used a tiny toilet, my kids used the small seat attachment and a stool just fine….saved having to transition again later from a kid toilet.
My son was scared of using the larger potty, so the tiny toilet worked best, but I agree, it adds another transition and is harder on me.
I ❤ the simplicity

It did! But it does not stay on at all. I ended up gluing it on so it would stay in place.

Why do you keep saying, “A” instead of “ah”? And why “duh”?
