If you are trying to help your child overcome dyslexia it takes a multi-step approach. Whether your child has had an official dyslexia diagnosis or is just struggling in school this process is the same. Dyslexia is a learning and thinking difference that causes learning struggles in different areas. Work can take a long time to complete and comprehension can be very poor. This can lead to emotional problems which need to be resolved first. But at the same time, it is essential to realize that children with dyslexia have a gift. This gift comes from developing strategies to help them with their difficulties. This video will help you understand how to bring out that gift as well as help them overcome the struggles of dyslexia.
Reading interventions are only effective if you have prepped the child for them. Accommodations and remediations and even tricks like a dyslexia font can be helpful for some. But without the prep work shown in this video these tools usually have limited effectiveness. Children who have struggled in elementary school lose confidence and self-esteem, and things just worsen.
Dyslexia is very common. It is caused by a difference in the way the brain processes information. But a successful dyslexia intervention can make actual changes in brain function. So they can develop the skills needed but at the same time keep the gifts that come with dyslexia.

This is so accurate. My Daugher has the double whammy of dyslexia and adhd. She struggles so hard with reading and spelling 😢 but she is so brilliant with art and imagination. ❤ love that little angel

My six year son is also like this. He loves art and coloring, absorbs complex information really easily at times but has problems with writing.
It took him 1 year to hold a pencil properly and then write.
I am glad that I and my Husband understand his problem and effort. And tackle this problem with love and care and we have confidence in him for whomsoever he is!

Wish my parents had this information 30 years ago when I was diagnosed. I did have teachers pick on me because I couldn't learn like the others and was often made to feel stupid. No one really knew how to help me, so I never received any help and just had to do the best I could. Thanks for the video.

Unfortunately that was all too common. Nobody really knew anything about it back then. So they made assumptions. Very sorry.

Although I think your first eight steps are important and helpful for ALL children, I am thankful that the two of my four children who had dyslexia were in a wonderful school system that directly addressed their specific reading disability with a special phonics program. Although as you stated, being in a pull-out class was not good for them in other ways, it did help them catch up with their peers in reading skills before middle school. I cannot over-stress the importance of hiring a tutor TRAINED in administering a dyslexia curriculum, or in insisting that you child receive a curriculum addressing dyslexia in school if you cannot afford a tutor.

I’m a adult with severer dyslexia still and iv seen a few of these videos and it actually angered me the information in this is layed out in a one size fits all way this is far from the truth dyslexia is not a problem that can be metrical cured like this place would lead you to believe and to be honest the information your being given will probably do more harm then good in the long run if you are a parent of a dyslexic child stop seeing it as a stigma coming to places like this and see it as a gift because that child dose not relate with the world the way you do in a unimaginable way for you embrace the out of the box thinking encourage the creativity they have and when it comes to any reading and writing skills don’t push it on them any more you would any other child I can promise you now reading the same book over and over again or even just 2ice you’ll see they have made a vast improvement the trust is they have just reminded the lines and are reciting it back to you find interests and allow them to learn by doing them things they will pick up everything they need to by doing things they enjoy for quicker then forcing there face in a book and start concentrating on changing education from a stricture that’s trying to force kids to all be the same and make a new system that encourages a child’s strengths develops there weakness and doesn’t exclude the kids that have all the knowledge but can’t express themselves and there ideas on paper

Absolutely. The principles talked about here will work at any age. The video is just more contextualized for children. I would pay close attention to the idea of proprioception. What might interest her that would be physical but mentally challenging to learn. Dance, martial arts, horseback riding, yoga? Something like that would give her a way to build confidence while at the same time causing neurogenesis and neuroplasticity.

As someone who was never told until I was in my 30s, I would suggest not waiting 30 years to tell them. I personally would have appreciated the knowledge either in high school or before entering post-secondary school. At the time when I was responsible for my own education, I made choices that were not fully informed because I was relying on neuro typical experiences of the people who took the courses ahead of me.

I finally told my daughter even though I knew for some time. The last testing she did. When we got the results. I told her what it was. I think it was a relief to her in some ways. She feels stupid. She knows she’s always been the last one to finish and constantly be behind at school. She’s not stupid at all of course. But she has known she was different in this way from early on in her education. She’s 13 now. Still struggles like crazy, but she can read! And I’m so thankful! She knows she has dyslexia and she still has to do her work. I don’t know how old your child is. But I have made arrangements at times to scribe for her with homework. She would give the answer and I would write it down. Homework would take 5-10 min instead of 40min or more! Now she wants to write as much as she can. But if she’s exhausted from school etc already, I will write for her if needed.

As someone with dyslexia, the affects in your videos make it really difficult to focus on what you're saying. I'm not sure if other neurodivergent folks agree, but I'm noticing it for myself.
I'm not sure if this video is aimed at only 'parents' with dyslexia, but dyslexics are watching and I wish the video was made to be easy to watch and not just overwhelming.
I thought I'd let you know because this is probably information you would want to know. I mean the best and I'm sure you do too

  • @ryanrussell3183

Or maybe the problem is with the lazy adult who doesn’t want to discipline and is distracted by their devices and pacifies their kids with those same devices rather than interacting with their children. And learning “disabilities” seems to overlook the efficacy of the school and teachers communicating information while putting all the responsibility on the child.

Happy feeling, good nutrition, and going to bed on time are all good advice but none will help dyslexia. I was looking for real techniques and solutions you presented the idea of a reading program, which one? The best one is " DI Reading Mastery". Your video was a lot of talk about self esteem but real solutions need to be presented that is the root of self confidence not happy thoughts. Sorry my opinion waist of time watching this presentation.

Sometimes the solution is right in front of us but we miss it because of our biases. I can empathise as I've made the mistake many times. Enjoy your search for a magic pill. But you might find in the end that you have wasted years looking for it while stepping over pearls

@@Learning_Success Self esteem has nothing to do with true dyslexia.
Children who only need encouragement to overcome dyslexia aren't dyslexic.
Dyslexia is a rewiring of the brain; it's a completely different means of processing information. I was hoping you would have more info relating to this fundamental difference & how it relates to teaching/learning.
It's always good to encourage children & keep them healthy, but that's not going to "fix" dyslexia any more than peppy, positive encouragement will make a kid less autistic. That's not how it works.
      Sincerely,
      A lifelong dyslexic

    • @Learning_Success
      @Learning_Success  7 месяцев назад

@@spectraldragonfly28 I think you are missing the point. The point is that the brain cannot rewire while in a stressed state. The PFC shuts down and the hippocampus is in a different state. Since most dyslexics are in a constant low level state of sympathetic nervous system activation this makes any rewiring of the brain impossible. So no, it's not a cure, but it is a necessary condition for change.
