Here in Australia, l just put the swag up on the roof rack to keep away from the snapping handbags. When lm not in croc country put the swag on the ground. Multi use. Happy days. 😀
If you can blow this much money on a fabric tent, then you can afford to just buy an RV or trailer. It's weird that these can even exist at these prices.
One Con to add to the ultra light go fast camper is that there is no overhang or awning over the entrance to the tent. Once you open the door when it is raining, the inside is going to get wet. I called go fast to specifically ask if they offered an awning or overhang on the front part of the tent to prevent rain from getting inside and they said no. I will say though, it would not be too difficult to make one.
Right, it seems like problem for all those almost directly accessible tents without almost any awning. Constructions like that from Thule where access is covered looks much better.
Hi, Daniel. From what I know, same supplier can make pretty different products (in quality and features) for different customers. But I will double check the info
Roof top tent Pros: + above ground + no need to look for place big enough and suitable for tent, as you can "build" one on the footprint of the car + easy to bring up and anchor on difficult (rocky) terrain Cons: - price tag - takes very valuable roof space - adds extra weight, making rig more top-heavy - night sleep-walking out to pee-pee might be pretty "adventurous" if you forget that you sleep ~2m above the ground Generally I like the idea. However I still prefer "coffin" box on the roof for the stuff and extra storage space combined with two 'standard' tents on the ground. Kids in one a bit away from mine one.
These tents are specifically built so you can offroad with them to get to more remote areas. Their frames are reinforced steel and aluminum that can handle up to 500lbs dynamic weight, which is important so they don't warp under oscillation. I have the tepui autanna ruggedized. Also take down and setup in minutes, important for overlanders like myself that move camp every morning
@@YourResidentSerb You can buy these off of Alibaba.com for $500-$800 directly from the manufacturers. They are a massive ripoff at $3000 now matter how you slice it.
Hello. I like to ask a question. I live in Argentina, in patagonia. Here the winds are very strong. Till 160 km / h, winds of 80 km/h are common. I like to know km what are your roof top tent recomendation for this wheather. Thank you!!
#3 should not even be top 10. This takes forever to get setup and put back compared to a traditional tent. #1, #2, and #7 are my favorites. Then the only question is about the wind resistance & noise.

Would you consider roof-top tent camping or rather stay closer to the ground? Share your thoughts in the comments!

@@evrythingis1 I agree. The price range for these tents are pretty high. Hopefully as the market gets more competitive, the prices will fall.
I built my own. Less than 500$ inkluding solar. Lol
I built my own on my 91 2door YJ Jeep Wrangler. It is thru-bottom and serves also as my top with the added luxury of supporting solar panels.
Hi. Do you have an Instagram account or channel? I would gladly check it out
In fakt, just hit me up on FB. I kan send a vid and piks personally if you want.
08:18 Hmm that FSR Odyssey "premium" looks pretty like Drifta WildLand
There are some of the best brands that are missing:
James Baroud, Portugal.
Alu Cab, South Africa.
The Bush Company, Australia.
Thanks for the suggestions! I think I have heard about them, but I will definitely look into them in more detail

FSR and Drifta are literally the same tents. Both Alibaba supplier Wildlands. At least Drifta isn’t hiding it...

One parameter must be taken into account: wind resistance! Then you have to choose between two brands, made in South Africa or Italy.
Hi I agree, that is an important factor.
Good video but you forgot to put www. On your links
Roof top tent

Hi, Tom. Good pros and cons list. I think it is worth trying, at least once. Maybe rent one out
Omg these should be 1000 to 2000 max wow 😳
I wish that was the case. I guess it's because they market to a very small segment of the population.
Basic tents in a plastic case that costs as much as a good used car. Absolutely absurd.
They do let you sleep above the ground, away from insects and dew..
@@MustSeeTech I see, so just like a $30 air mattress you can put in a $90 tent...
Not really 😉

Hi there. I am not use if these can withstand such strong winds. You would need to contact the manufacturer that interested you to find out
Might want to skip those hurricane wind days :)

Hi, I have not heard about it. Thanks for the suggestion
All of the tents shown are made in China. We recommend the USA Made Terrapod RTTx
what does your RTT go for? I'm building out a rig and looking for one. I got a Tacoma 3rd gen. looking to have it over the bed of the truck.
