What do you think about these lightweight camping solutions? Would you consider them as the next upgrade for your truck or would you rather go for a roof top tent?
I'm looking for just this. Sadly your mechanized voice left me cold and I could not finish the video. I'll buy from someone else.
@@bonnies6963 Yes, that computer voice made it unwatchable. 30 second in and I was gone.
@Bonnie S You are welcome to do so, since I am not selling anything
@Vic I narrate all of the videos on this channel myself
$7500-10,000 are you kidding?
I had a camp o tell in the early seventies that was better
I just insulated a camper shell and put a tarp awning off the back..just one of the projects I did when on covid 19 layoff
You have a build video?
I love these. Lightweight and affordable ( in the truck bed RV sense ). Great for off road or even long trips where you're more interested in adventure than amenities.
Hi, Frank. Thanks for the feedback! Glad you found the lineup adequate
You have a funny idea of what affordable is. Some of these cost a years salary.
@@texxs01 Also a funny idea of what "light" is. I'm looking for more of a popup canopy than a popup camper. I must've entered the wrong word in the search. Heh.
@@texxs01 makes sense to me as single man paying for an apartment 2000+ when all that money can go towards an asset rather than going to nothing. in fact its way cheaper.
I have an Outfitter Caribou Lite 8 ft model on a 6.75ft bed with tailgate down. The best truck camper out there IMHO.
Thanks for sharing! How long have you been camping with it?
@@MustSeeTech About 6 months. It has indoor and outdoor shower, cassette toilet, queen size bed, 3.8 cu ft fridge, 3 burner stove, 200 watts of solar panels, and quite a bit of storage.
@@deepwoods_dave7368 Hi, Dave, what truck make / model are you carrying your camper on ?
@@JefferyLSmith Hi Jeff, I have a 2000 Ford Super duty F250 with the 7.3 litre diesel and a 6 speed manual transmission.
Great rundown of canopy campers. I would only add the newer Alu-cab to this video list!
Everyone that is trash talking the prices of these, needs to go to welding school, buy a welder, buy the aluminum and take the time and energy to weld all of these components together, go get them powder coated, then assemble all of the doors and hinges, and all the small intricacies that go into this. Then they can talk trash.
Totally agree!
I could understand paying thousands if there were amenities like kitchens and bathrooms, but most of these are just tents sitting on a truck bed. I could do that with a $30 tent from Target.
@@Jordan-vf4up Or get a $150 locking aluminum cap off Craigslist and stuff gear and a sleeping bag in there, problem solved and $$ saved.
There are custom tents made for different truck beds I've seen for around $300. That way your off the wet ground and away from bugs.
Hi, Phil. Can you send me the links to those?
@@MustSeeTech If you just put "truck bed tents" in the search bar of RUclips it will show you comparison and prices
@@Jordan-vf4up keep it classy
I was going to buy a Project M. I was really excited, envisioning weeks of fun trips to places I'd always wanted to see. But once I priced it out with the bare bones options I absolutely needed the cost went over $10k. That's a LOT of money for what is functionally a tent. For the cheaper truck toppers like the Project M, you have to climb over the tailgate to get in and unless you can lock your tailgate from the inside, you're not secure.
It was hard to give up my dream but I decided that spending more money on something that would actually be comfortable and secure would make more sense. Someday . . .
Hi, Lisa. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. What are you considering instead?
@@MustSeeTech Still a pop-up but something with a lot more amenities, like a Four Wheel Hawk. Those get very expensive once you get all the options needed to make them truly comfortable. And at my stage of life (late 50's) I'd like to be comfortable.
My dad had something very similar to a Hawk and it was great. Very livable. Now he has an AT Habitat and all I can say about that is just . . . no.
@@lisamurphy2314 did you ever get the project M? How did you like it?
I Hope your Dream came True Lisa! 🙏
I guess it all comes down to what one thinks is affordable. Thanks for the video. BTW . I understood every word you said.
Thanks for watching. I am happy that you enjoyed the video!
Me and my wife are planning our retirement and want a light weight truck camper to travel with.
love them...just can't afford them.
Yeah there a rip-off anyway you get a metal camper shell and a tent for 10 to $15,000 just think about that
It's cheaper just to buy a brand new state-of-the-art fiberglass or aluminum camper shell put a rack on the top and get a roof nice Rooftop tent save thousands
The first time the shell of a camper has been referred to as a "carcass".
Yes, add the dead skin from an aluminum boar as a cover for your truckbed
Outrageous prices
And too heavy. All I want is a pop-up shell with a bed platform.
I know this one was a year ago but thank you so much. Love all the info given/pics and specs!! Great job and very helpful!❤️
You are welcome, Jen. Thanks for watching!
i enjoyed watchin.. Subscribed!
Awesome to read that. Thanks for watching
Very good video 👍 Thank you ❣
You are welcome! Which model interested you?
I really like this concept of truck campers 😉
Thanks for sharing!
I don't like the wedge design. I don't see why it's so popular. For the same wind resistance and a few yards of fabric, you could have a lot more room.
Love these
Thanks for watching, Jason!
I'll take NUMBER 10 !
Hi. The video features just 9 campers🤨
Awesome. Good explanation. I like truck campervan because its flexible. Thanks👍😁🚚
Thanks for the feedback! Appreciate it
These are not for everyone, but definitely for some. Some people want low air drag while others don't mind pulling a fifth wheel with 70 sqft of wall sticking into the wind. Some are very lightweight. They all look fairly easy to set up which if not , that's a show stopper for me. I like the headroom. I also like the no "built in" appliance versions. I would consider one of these right now and would buy one if only they made that fabric with some type of SpaceX stuff that was R-10 insulation. To hot for summer, to cold for winter, it is the equivalent of camping in a tent as far as climate control is concerned. A camper like this , to me, is only 2 seasons. Your sleeping on the other side of fabric. I do like these concepts, great video and presentation. Thanks for taking the time.
Hi, David. Thanks for such a detailed response. If I do find some SpaceX type popup, I will definitely report. Stay tuned for the future releases
There are popups with insulation built-in or, in one model I ran across, with insulating panels that velcro to the walls.
Here's the video:
ruclips.net/video/wd8CH4WKj3o/видео.html
Down2Mob was more into the heard-walled "Hiatus."
I think OVRLND topper got less attention, but I think they make the lightest and most versatile.
I'm planning on having a teardrop camper (square drop) delivered this summer. I would still like to get the lightest possible popup shell, for guests. I've got some grown nephews to "break in" on camping. My brother wasn't into anything but his books when they were growing up, so I'm gonna teach 'em how to fly fish and put together a comfy camp, training them how to train their wives to enjoy the great outdoors. Keeping things comfy in all weathers and a hard-walled bedroom are two big factors.
I guess lowest price is relative. Personally, for the cost of these, I'd rather just keep using my truck cap with sleeping platform. The only thing I can't do vs these is stand up.
Thanks for the the feedback, Tim. What kind of camper were you looking for?
Likewise, my Leer 122 is quite roomy.
@@MustSeeTech cheaper I think
😂
I guess I can start out with something like this. Thanks for the video.
Love that last one. My issue with a lot of slide-in's and pop-up's is the cost. There's not much that goes into one yet they cost or more than a camp trailer twice the size. That's why I bought plans & am in the process of building my own camper.
Hi. That sounds nice. What type of camper are you building?
@@MustSeeTech a slide-in design from Glen-L called the "Importer - Long Bed". It's a 1970's design for the 1st Toyota pickup so it's lightweight. Can't remember off hand what the dry weight is but I'm shooting for 800# or less. With today's building materials I'm pretty certain that I can do it
Thanks for sharing. I will check it out
Thank you.
very good your videos. I'm building a camper and the information is very important.
project m would best suit me for my budget!
Thanks for sharing. Glad you've found the model that you like
Nice review video👌🏻. We use a similar camper. We are very pleased with this style, it is very advantageous that you have both a 4x4 off-road vehicle and a caravan. Definitely recommend to those who love camping in the wild.
Well..
Seem expensive & cumbersome for one week per year camping. Guess I'll just set up the tent and campsite.
If you only camp once a year, that is probably the most practical choice 👍
I was born near Grandby, Colorado, back in the 60's. And that uphostery on the Grandby camper here looks like it was from then, too! Amazing camper otherwise, though.
Lol. Thanks for sharing!
Looking for a 5 foot to fit a 2021 Ford ranger
Nice comparison and including MSRP is very helpful.
Thanks for sharing
Good information
Hi. Hope it was useful. Thanks for watching
“A” frame tent on a piece of plywood will cost only $300 max. I and my son sleep in the truck topper which I use for work and empty for our trips out west. Cheap!
Thanks for sharing, David. If you ever upgrade to a camper, what type would it be?
@@MustSeeTech I’m not sure, I’d go with Roofnest rtt because it’d allow me to use my truck bed for work. I like the hybrids but I can’t see myself spending that much since a already have a Leer topper. I love the concept!
👍 Roofnests are good
Now THIS is more my speed and I would love to learn more about something like this. I just am disabled and can't really make things. Why doesn't someone sell something like this? Or do they?
@@texxs01 look up tent cots. Easier for disabled people. No climbing necessary and you’re still off the ground.
For between 6,000 to 10,000 you can build a hell of a rig at home if you have the knowledge, time and want the hassle.
Free topper on craigslist.
I toss a twin mattress into the back. Built a little cabinet on one side to set stuff on and store stuff in. I've spent many nights at the boat launch so I can just get up and go hunt ducks. You don't need to spend thousands. Heat and electricity is easy. Heat is from a coleman catalytic heater.
If I need electricity there's an inverter on the truck.
The tools alone to build one of these would cost more than any of these. They’re not just simply welding flat pieces of aluminum together.
I like to have the first one
rectangular pop.. ☑️
The Hallmarks have way more storage than any of them. I have a Milner on a f-350 SRW it is awsome.. 30 gal water , 30 gal propane, solar, carefree 8' awning, microwave in overhead cabinet and two 160 Watt solar pannels on roof. You wont put this model with all my amenities on a 3/4 ton and stay within limits with gear and such for a 7 day trip. but if you have the truck you can hunt in Colorado during December for at least 7 days in sub 20 degree weather without a problem.. it weighs close to 3000lbs all in, people, gear, camper, water, propane and gear...
Nice! Thanks for sharing!
Nice vid yo
Id just get me a Leer and be done with it.
Number 6 is definitely an intriguing one. Have you seen the kimbo camper. If not check that thing out.
Hi, I have featured it in one of my previous releases. But thanks for the suggestion anyways
Some of these are basically just camper shells with a pop-up section so you can stand inside
Of course, brand new camper shells Runabout 2002 2500 last I heard, so...
When he said cheap, I thought he meant 1200-1000 dollars. It’d be cheaper to make your own camper. You can make one for around 4500 or 3500 & add whatever you want & make it however you want
Love that last one. My issue with a lot of slide-in's and pop-up's is the cost. There's not much that goes into one yet they cost or more than a camp trailer twice the size. Disappointed that you never once mentioned, in my humble opinion, the best pop-up camper builder Palimino.
Hi. Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into them
There are several here that iv'e seen that i'm very interested in, but they're simply way too expensive. If only these companies would be willing to drop their price on some of these i bet they would sell more by volume and make a better profit in the long run.
Hi, Shawn. What pricing would you be able to justify?
There is very little margin in these types of campers. If they went down much at all on these prices, they would be losing money.
Greetings, I just came from Travel Camper headquarters (factory) There is still a ton of innovation going on; lots of people working. Also, It is hard to get a clear-cut answer to technical questions. This tells me that things are still a bit young for some of the ideas they are trying to transmit. (at least on the sales side). plus with demand so high, it will be very expensive.
Great video. Are these easy to remove from your truck?
Check out the Moonlander by Radica.
The waiting time for most of the models mentioned has become ridiculous.... 8 months minimum and that’s not taking Covid into account!
Surely as demand increases for these campers the companies should expand their production capacity to keep the customers happy?... all those I’ve spoken to don’t seem to care.
It is possible that they anticipate that this surge in demand is temporary and do not want to invest.
@@MustSeeTech indeed. At least ATOverland have now taken on extra staff to help cope with their increasing demand.
HOLEEE Crap! These are expensive. And so much more than a person needs needs in most cases. Like that one that only a shell.... It's doesn't have crap but an uncomfortable bed and it's $10,000! What that maybe cost $200 to build? Ok maybe $500? What do i have to sart a company and make these for working class folks? Priced at $2000 there would still be LOTS of profit.
Well, if you are correct, you have got yourself a huge business opportunity
Is there something like this sold in Europe ? Top up cells look really rare here!
Hi there. I am not sure, I have not been able to find worthy options for the cheapest list, but it is possible that there are some that I have overlooked.
These high prices sure isnt my cup of brew.
Your english aint so good.
I really wanted to watch this but could only take about 25 seconds of that voice. Nails on chalkboard! Yeesh!
Oh, well. You missed a great video.
You get used to it. Sort of like a Marketing teacher on highschool 😂
Seems like the price has doubled since this video was made. Atlas starts at 13k now.....
Ughh. Thanks for the info, Brian
I'll have to settle for one of these until tundra can start making trucks that don't have such pathetic payloads. I've always loved Toyota but they don't understand the hauling game
What kind of camper would you rather go for?
Way over priced, I think it’s time to start building and selling these things. Honestly I would like to see manufacturers cost.
$9k for a tent to go on a $45k strip down version of the truck? I don’t see the savings or sense when u can put a tent in the bed if the truck. $2k maybe. This is for the people that don’t really camp and bring the blow dryer with them . This is good idea but I’m sure sales are not in nazdac or 500 Co
And just an error on the guys video there's no such thing as 10 gallon propane tanks on a four wheel camper you might get two 20 lb propane tanks which equals 9 gallons of propane total but not two 10 gallon tanks
I personally like one that isn't on your list. The alaskan truck camper.
You are absolutely correct about that, but I think the narrator ask what camper a person liked, and I personally like the alaskan camper, the video was very informative and well done.
Where can you find the Hallmark's campers at in Florida?
Hi, Dennis. You should contact them directly to find out if they are working with any dealers in your area.
It would be nice to see a full bathroom and kitchen in a retractable hardtop truck camper. For extended boon docking, and we can park our trucks in the garage
Hi, Steven! I have only see ones with a porta potty and an external shower
Check out the Bundutec Wild.
phoenix truck campers
Get a taller garage.
Not quite a 'full' bathroom, but the 'all options' Grandby by FourWheel has an interior shower, and a cassette toilet system installed.
I hope this helps.
I could focus more if there wasn't a robot voice narrator.
7000$ for tent + hard top... seriously?
I want a lightweight top that is better than my tent, and I don’t need all the fancy furniture, that kinda defeats the object of trekking. 🤔🤔
👍 thanks for sharing! Did you like any of the featured models?
You're the same guy from Automative Territory right?
How did you guess? I've always made sure to hide my face😁
Must See Tech I’m a big fan of that channel actually 😌
Thanks! Happy that you like the content.
How much?????????????????????????????
Hi, Daniel. The available prices are on the screen.
Never did so many words communicate so little.
I learn more with the sound off. Lol. Hella
Dudes voice drives me nuts😫
I hit mute after 5 seconds
All terrain campers are the shit
???
Without exception these campers are ludicrously overpriced for what one gets in return!
A basic rooftop tent atop four simple panels which mount to the pick up truck's tub shouldn't be so expensive to produce in quantity.
It really doesn't get more basic than that, a simple tent topper without any base structure, purposeless without a truck to sit on.
feel free to build your own and let us know what it costs.
The reason for the high price is mostly due to the fact that these are very low run Specialty production products. I agree that they will may not be considered a good “value” but You’re not getting ripped off because these companies have to change these prices to cover their overhead. many of these companies might make only 20 a year where other companies make a 1000 And can spread out their costs And have more efficient high output Production lines.
CRAWLER KMP 190 ???
Idk I kind of feel like I could build a camper like that with a budget of like 300 bucks.
I think once you try, the pricing will definitely go up
Maybe some plywood and 1x2s. It adds up quick.
Give it a try. It will end up costing you a grand and it will weigh about 2500 lbs.
Todd anything is better than 10-15k also it’s not hard to incorporate light weight materials but thanks Todd for your input
@@mikaelachavez1600 you can’t build light weight and be cheap about it. The only way to go lightweight is aluminum, you’d have to buy a welder you have to have the welding skills and all the components to include gas struts windows the time to put in to do this. You definitely are going to be spending more just in learning how to weld and the welder itself. A lot of people don’t understand the amount of work that goes into these. They’re not for everyone they are very expensive, but look at a Porsche that’s super expensive but you don’t hear everyone talking crap about them. People just know that they can’t afford them and that’s just how the world works. If it’s something you want you’ll afford it, if it’s some thing that is not important to you you’ll talk trash about it.
build your own,the prices are crazy on these
Hi, Steve. These are cheapest models I could find! But of course, you could probably build one and spend less.
LOL not me
Great rundown but strange narration.
5-10k for a tent.. sike
These are not really tents🤨
What is the lightest weight Cabover camper that has air conditioning and heat?
Though I enjoyed the overview of the different models I could only understand 50% of what you were saying. Sorry.
Hi, turn on the subtitles. They are autogenerated and pretty accurate
These are ridiculously expensive.
Carry-boo-lite
New topper $1200, rtt $3000....so why 10k for these?
You can stand up in them?
Hi, Lisa. What model are you interested in?
These are not my idea of low price.
Got you. If you find cheaper alternatives, please let me know
EXPENSIVE roof top tents. Some cost more the trucks there on. Hell you could buy a nice little used RV for the price of some of these.
Thanks for the feedback. What type of an RV would prefer?
Too many ads
To high of a price for a vinel or canvas camper, not my cup of tea.
I like Hiatus campers. www.hiatuscampers.com/ No tent fabric.
What kind of weed are they smoking? 4 to 19 thousand for a tarp ten camper, really guys, really! I can hodge·podge some plywood together for a lot less than that.
Hi, Joe. These were the cheapest models I could find in this class. Any alternative suggestions?
I just want a place I can smoke crack in peace.
Crack on dude.
Me 420😂
You need to meet my buddy Tyrone Biggalow or something.
Beverley Hills Cop " Get out of here "
Wow, some of these designs suck. So boxy, real wind catchers. Kills your gas mileage.
😂
Cheap! ?. Given what there is to them, a bit of sheet metal and some cloth they are well overpriced. Idiots easily parted with money.
How would you price these then?
@@MustSeeTech less than 2k for a bare shell. If you want to argue...lets see how much an asian country could make it for shall we?
But they are not made in an Asian country. Many of these are made in the US, so the cost of labor is much higher, hence the price.
@@MustSeeTech It's called competition in a Global market place I'm afraid. Thank those who allow socialism and communism to flourish for making the West uncompetitive.
The voice is grating and had to mute the description
As long as you watched the video 😉
@@MustSeeTech yes thank you so much
I can’t stand these computer voice videos
Me too. That is why I narrated all of the videos on this channel myself
You can buy a small trailer for $10,000
Hi, Sam. Please share some examples! I would gladly check them out
Cheap truck camper
Price 19,000$
Not cheap at all.
Four wheel campers roofs leak all the time ...stays away!!!
Hi, Jason. Do you own one?
Must See Tech no thank goodness!!! I follow several you tubers and they are busy chasing down leaks while on vacation. Check out were the russo’s
Thanks for the info. Will do.
@@jasonw820 Why would the Russo's experience translate into "leak all the time?". This reporting would not pass a statistical analysis. Their occurrence was an extremely rare one. There was caulking around the Yakima rack that needed repair. It was repaired and all was and is well with their rig. It was also an extreme downpour - but that is what FWC can typically manage.
HAHAHA! So you found one video of a leak involving someone adding an aftermarket roof rack and that translates to "leak all the time"? Follow any other 4WC owners? There are countless including people who full time in the 4WC and there are no issues. They are a long-running company with a high reputation. Even the Russo's havent complained about the leak issue and it was fixed with very little effort.
Where the one for 500
Everyone of these is overpriced for what you get, no thanks.
Let's not confuse "over priced" with "more than you want to spend". These manufacturers are trying to fill a need. I really doubt they will have a successful business if the quality is sub par. You get what you pay for. I'm sure you would not be disappointed with any of these.
What kind of voice does this person have.... is it a computer generated voice???? Not easy to understand
I just have an accent, that is all
Ah, I thought you said “lowest price”
Hi, Chad. These are the cheapest lightweight truck campers that I could find. Do you know of more affordable models?
Must See Tech just being a smart ass. Im not questioning your research so much as suggesting these products are over priced. I’m actually considering a trailer. I feel it’s more bang for your buck.
Chad Kimmel oh yea! You will always get more for your money with a standard type stick an tin travel trailer! We just paid well under 18k, for a Cherokee Grey Wolf 24 JS, that has a walk around queen bed, dry full bath, Central HVAC, oven/3burner cooktop, and many other features for the money. Ok the only drawback is size an weight at 26’ overall an 5,000 lbs fully loaded for just the two of us. We tow it with a 2019 Colorado Crew Cab 4x4, V6, that does an excellent job, I added a Weight Distribution/Anti-Sway Hitch, even though both truck an trailer are level while hooked up, but the WDH does help the whole combination ride better and deal with cross winds a lot better! So we go to an area we want to explore, find a nice spot, either alone to dry camp, or at a site, preferably a State Park as they have more space between sites and cost less. Of course there is always WallMart and other sites that allow travelers a safe place to stop and catch a nice nights sleep and pickup provisions. So I hope you all are safe out there, are having fun an adventure in good health!
K. R. V. I hear ya. My brother-in-law had a WDH on his Bronco toe rig for obvious reasons. They’re amazing. Enjoy that camper!
Thanks for sharing, guys! Personally, I would go for trailer too. Hope you will have fun camping!
