      I love Condor man when I was a kid my friend had the comic books of the movie I could see this becoming a reboot and instead of making it very humorous I would make it a little bit more serious make it serious but with Wise Cracks

    I grew up on Disney live-action films: there was a shopping center with a movie multiplex in its basement, kitty-corner from our five-building mid-rise apartment complex, so every Saturday throughout the mid-to-late ‘70s and into the early ‘80s Mom and I would cross the street to see a film … _The Love Bug, The Apple Dumpling Gang, Freaky Friday, Candleshoe_ (my favorite), _The Shaggy D.A., The Cat from Outer Space_ (my other two favorites), _The Happiest Millionaire_ (for which I owned the soundtrack album, to which I can probably still remember most of the lyrics, an absolute favorite), _The Million Dollar Duck, Napoleon and Samantha_ (my favorite, in case I hadn’t mentioned having one yet), _Escape to Witch Mountain, The Bears and I,_ and yes, indeed, _Condorman._
    I didn’t understand the hate _Condorman_ got, or what a few of my idiot classmates thought was so great instead about _The Canonball Run_ or some other lowbrow nonsense two or three of them enjoyed. I pretty much ignored whatever stigma there supposedly was among preadolescents against Disney films, and I guess as the times changed I simply grew more out-of-step with the times. I’d been perfectly happy in the warm, good-natured, well-intentioned world of ‘60s and ‘70s Disney live action, and I probably still would be today … which is wild, because at 13 I discovered Buñuel and Bergman and Truffaut, and fell in love with that movie world too, and in ‘84 _Repo Man_ changed my life … so I guess it was art films and cult films and Disney live action and nothing in between.
    So by 1981, to others _Condorman_ may have felt like a throwback, but I’d have loved it if people-at least in the movies-could have remained for the most part kind, and the world less cruel, for just a little while longer.
    In fact, the more the world becomes this ugly, dreary, corporate place, the more necessary it feels to have art which illuminates another way.

    Condorman is as you say a forgotten flawed gem.
    Frank Spencer -sorry Crawford was a terrific leading man long before this, his turn in Hello Dolly (65?) Is superb but that movie thankfully sank. His acrobatic and comic skills put to good use in condorman with Reed as a worthy villain. They had a long working relationship that went back to the sixties and the work both did with Michael winner(death wish) CM is in some respects a proto-Incredibles movie very in on the jokes and a little to offbeat to be massively popular & it was competing against Raiders and for your eyes only.
    I'd forgotten James Hampton in it. He has best line as I recall "yes everyone knows comic book characters aren't real..." Which I found really funny and droll .
    Thanks for great review of often forgotten flawed gem

    I have lost count of how many times I watched this as a kid. Definitely one of my favourite movies along with others such as indiana jones and biggles. This generation cant seem to appreciate the movie for what it was back then. For example, for me an old movie before my generation would have been spartacus, however i could still appreciate that back in the day when that came out, it would have been good. Just because the graphics werent upto standard for ny generation doesnt mean it wasnt good at some point.

    Good, video, really enjoyed it. I just about recall seeing the film as a kid. Watched a programme on Channel 5, this evening, about Michael Crawford. My wife told me that her late father - Derek Botell, had Condor Man's wings from the movie, stored in their garage. He worked on the flying effects. He also did the first 2 Superman movies and Flash Gordon, as well as many other films and TV which he wasn't credited for, including Some Mothers Do Ave 'Em. Think he also worked on a Pink Panther film, as he was used as an extra in one scene.

    • @MatsMovieReviews
      @MatsMovieReviews  2 года назад

      Fantastic facts ! I knew the crew from superman worked on the flying rigs. I’m sure the prop store would be very interested in the wings !!! Glad you enjoyed it and came across it thanks to channel 5 🙏Thanks for watching .

      As a child fan of the movie, PLEASE ask your wife to preserve those wings. They are a part of Disney history. I would be saddened to see them thrown away. Fun fact: a fan of the movie made a working replica and showed up at a comic con wearing them. There is a video on RUclips showing how they work. I was amazed that they open up just as smoothly as the ones in the film.

    @Hektols 3 года назад

    I didn't know that Disney's movies from that era were office flops, for me just being Disney movies were a guarantee that they would fun and exciting movies. Those movies were in fact really popular in the videoclubs where I lived, with most of them hired always hired and because you couldn't reserve them you had to be lucky to have them available when you made your visit.

    • @MatsMovieReviews
      @MatsMovieReviews  3 года назад +1

      its true as I mentioned in the video classics such as Tron struggled to find its audience and most made their money back on video rental. Disney were clever as they always limited the number of copies available to video stores and they were expensive for independent video stores to keep lots of copies, this made them more desirable for the viewer and buying a video was not an option believe it or not
      times before Disney+ !! thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

    A terrible movie...like the Herbie flicks. Seriously, the mid-to-late 70s and 80s were awful for Disney. Many cinema-goers have totally forgotten what Disney was back then. As to Tron, the movie was a breath of fresh air, sadly, the story was a let-down....

      theone Andonly I totally agree. This movie was way up on my list of favourites when I was a kid in the 80’s. I thought the idea of a KGB agent defecting to the West to be super exciting, and I loved the action and car chase scenes. My sons are 8 and 5 now and I totally intend on showing it to them in the next few years.
