Ah, few know of the joys of Condorman.
I, too, have a special place in my heart for this movie, seeing it in the theaters, alone while my mother did the weekly grocery shopping, in the summer of 1981...

I remember when this was out in the cinema (I was young). Everyone loved it. It was the talk of school. I'm not that sure why some people are so down on it. It was fun.

I remember seeing this when it came out, loads of junior school kids including myself loved it, as it was a kids styled film.
I'm glad I own it on dvd .
My kids found it fun to watch as well.

Joel, you've totally nailed this review. I saw this at the flicks back in 1981 having been a big fan of Michael Crawford's Frank Spencer character since being a young child in the UK in the 70's. Have just visited a friend this weekend (who is also a Frank Spencer fan) and gave him the dvd as a present for him and his young family. Was shocked to find that he hadn't seen Condorman before! Are they in for a Sunday afternoon family treat, or what?! (They just don't make films like this any more!)

Damn, this video should be in the dictionary for hitting the nail on the head. You couldn't have been more eloquent and truthful to the tone of the film. This is your first video I'm watching and I'm incredibly impressed with your work. You need to be hired ASAP by someone in this field. PLEASE Lord let there be a reboot, but please don't et them destroy this film by making it suck. Wll share this video everywhere.

I never saw this as a kid, but I was a huge fan of Darkwing Duck and now we have Big Hero 6 to be this generation's Condorman. I guess Disney has a thing for superheroes.

Great review! I introduced this film to my girlfriend recently, and she enjoyed it. I think this movie deserves an update in a TRON Legacy style, where it passes the torch and sets new parameters without having to alter the original. This film never gets enough respect. I've used the "If you bring the dip..." line since 1982, and people still give me weird looks lol.

Brilliant review. The reason Disney is what they are today seems knitted into this gem of a film. When this movie came out in theaters i remember how instantly i wanted to embrace the film due the preview and poster. It may not have generated a huge summertime revenue but i still think it won over viewers just like yourself.

What I like about Condorman is it has Levels - kinda like Ghostbusters - it's played straight but it's actually kinda amusing in some strange ways - it's actually more amusing when it's not trying to be funny. the things that made me smile are the things like when those Porsche's avoid the rear cannons on his car. as it's so unexpected.
Doesn't hurt when your car is one of the most attractive Ferraris of the era and the main enemy Porsche is a rarely seen 935 (same as the Transformer Jazz) .
His flight harness though a bit clunky and with some bad blue screen is at least conceptually believable to some degree.
I enjoy the heck out of this Movie flaws and all.

WOW‼️ I’m glad someone likes this movie as much as I do. I remember seeing it when I was a kid and was blown away! The music the gadgets were phenomenal! But your breakdown of it really gave the movie depth more than what I remember, and I saw it many many many times on video to the point of wearing the tape out🤣🤣 I haven’t seen it in years but after this I think I’ll give it a viewing. GREAT video‼️😎👍🏽

I watched this at the cinema with my Sunday School. At the time in the UK Michael Crawford was a huge star from the sitcom Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. I grew up with his pratfalls, and it was thrilling to see basically the same character in a James Bond/Batman style spoof. This was many years before Austin Powers and Johnny English.
I never understood why it was a box office bomb. The critics were very sniffy about it, but I am surprised it didn't get an audience beyond the critics. Like you say it's a very enjoyable film - probably more so for kids.

Well done review, sir. Very thoughtful. I loved the nod to the neon Mickey. My sister and I bugged our mom to rent this movie as often as possible, and then we'd spend all Saturday afternoon watching and re-watching it. At the same time, I was going through a phase where I recorded all sorts of things on my tape recorder, and would play the audio back in my room, 30 minutes at a time. It always cut out in the middle of the boat battle at the end, but I didn't care.
    Nostalgia indeed!

Thanks for the great review Joel, this movie was a box office flop where almost every review for it was overly critical of it due to this; rather than seeing what everyone missed.
Yet for some reason as a child through to an adult, I kept watching & enjoying it.
It's not perfect, but it does have some great moment's that really stood out from other movies at the time.
But the action was varied, well done & focused on area's that other action movies haven't done before.
I never forget the car chase with the Nova Sterling Kit car, the Porsche 935 & it's 911 supporter's.

This film was released at the cinema at the same time as Raiders of the lost Ark. I was going to see it with a friend in London but at the last minute he suggested watching Raiders instead, as the poster looked really good. We spent the entire afternoon watching Raiders 3 times in a row, hiding under the seats from the cleaners in between showings so we didn't get kicked out, it was that awesome. Best cinema experience I've ever had. Never got to see Condorman. Never regretted it.

I loved this as a lad. My dad, who i havent seen for thirty odd years, once read me and my sister the novelisation as a bedtime story, perched on a stool on the landing equidistant between our bedrooms. I remember not having the heart to tell him that the girl was natalia rather than natalie! Though I was slightly annoyed cos I was a bit in love with the actress! Interestingly(or not) she actually did become a kind of bond girl afterwards, in never say never again!

Same as you saw this countless times as a kid, rewatched it in my 20's expecting to think it was shit, actually was surprised I thought it was (still) pretty damn good. It's tone is so much different to pretty much every other superhero movie ever made. No idea why it's not a cult classic.

Speaking of Bond girls - Barbara Carrera later on really played one, named Fatima Blush, in Never Say Never Again (though some would rush to state that this is not a canon Bond movie). She was also known to say that Sean Connery looks "sexier without the hairpiece".

Brilliant work sir! I consider this "Genuine Seriousness About Silliness" which could be anything I've often talked about regarding bad movies that I love. Again, it is such a comfort knowing some fellow fans of later Disney Live Action films that many have either forgotten about, or never want to give a second glance. This review of Condorman was spot on! Everything you've said is what I would've expected to hear from a fan! You've now made me a subscriber sir! I look forward to watching more of your videos!

This movie came out when I was 4. My favorite scene was the car chase. I loved those Porsches, even though they were driven by the bad guys. Doesn't make the cars bad, does it? I also like the boat chase. I had to love the end, where Natalia (Barbara Carrera) finally made it to America. Great film. I'd like to see if I could find it on Amazon, maybe.

I originally watched this film because I was a fan of Michael Crawford, however as well as his performance, the film/story itself is really well made and creative - although you could argue the final half is a bit rushed. I will say also that it is not beyond comprehension that Natalia got sick of working for the KGB itself.

This was one of those movies that I sometimes wondered whether I actually saw it or just dreamed. It would be on TV once in a while, and I really liked it, but most people I talked to had never heard of. When I saw it I thought it had pretty elaborate production value for a one off, so I wondered if this was a franchise from yore that I just wasn't familiar with. But no, just turned out it was a Disney romp that lost money, so never got a sequel or cartoon spinoff. I wanted more once I saw it, but alas, this just sort of slipped into obscurity.

There was a Disney movie trailer that scared me as a kid. Think it was the late 70’s or early 80’s. Can’t remember the title but Betty Davis was in it and I remember some type of monster in the woods. Remember the trailer freaked me out, I think I was 5 or 6. Do you know the movie and can you do a review on it? Thinking back on it, I couldn’t understand why Disney would want to do a horror movie.

Crazy, silly idea, but instead of a reboot Condorman can we get a sequel? Something written well enough to stand alone for those who haven't seen the original but which doesn't ignore the original or -heaven forbid- try to stuff 1981 world politics into 2018+?

Joel - this is an absolutely stonking review - well done!! Having filmed a few video reviews myself, I can appreciate the work you've put into this. On to the film- I watched it myself last night (brief review here: www.moviesloths.co.uk/condorman-1981) and really enjoyed it after last seeing it in the cinema 34 years ago! Eeek! You summed up the subjective and nostalgic nature of its appeal really well, and yet underneath I think the plot emanates from a pretty cool idea - getting wacky gadgets made facilitate your own spy story - nice work if you can get it! Anyway, keep up the good work - where can I find your own movies? Marc (aka The Hitman)

bro, i saw this on disney in like 81 or 82. it's one of my fondest childhood memories. I wanted to be a spy when i grew up to be just like my hero. my love of comics too. unfortuneately, my discovery of the evils of the US intelligence opparateus and how it visits cruelty on our own people made me decide be a different type of good guy. Jedi space wizard comes to mind. so i'm writing a movie now, the hero might die at the end but real heros know the risks and so do i.... btw totally read on John Dee and his 5 books of mystery. the end is near. LOL
