Seen guys pull riders out the group when they're being dangerous. There's a difference between the usual bumps vs trying to chop wheels and bars and you know it. I was watching Cory's videos when they were still on Cannondales. There was tons of bumps and crashes in those races. The only reason they get as much hate as they do know is because racing is actually getting more exposure. The worst stuff attributed to them started when they did the Lambo kit reveal. Nauseating levels of racism tossed around and people saying they stole money to get the Lambo. Since then, any crash or bumping in any race is now their fault. It's stupid.
Well, like I mentioned in the video, whether someone is a fan of Legion or not, Justin's tactics in this race were top notch. People can choose to learn from them or not. The choice is theirs.
Watched Justin Williams in the 2018 & 2019 Harlem Skycraper Classics, both of which he won in spectacular and convincing fashion. His cycling IQ in this specific discipline is exemplary, and he is true tactician and strategist in criterium races who possesses the perfect blend of speed endurance, strength, power and explosive speed for the final sprint. Definitely the crème de la crème of criterium racers. Excellent video accompanied with your in-depth analysis of the race, made it very engaging to watch. Keep up the tremendous work👍👍
My favourite tactic of top riders is stealing wheels to move forward in the peloton. This may seem obvious, but top riders do it like assholes. They put you into a situation where you either give up your position or crash, but you don't want to crash obviously, so you give up position loosing a race basically. Top level of crit racing or peloton-based races in general are for people who can afford crashes financially and health-wise
JW's FTP is less than 350W, I'm betting. He relies on his natural fast twitch muscles to hit those 5-15 seconds "bursts" that he needs. That's why he's well suited for crits, but if you put him on a 100K road race averaging 3.5 to 3.8 wkg he will blow up rather quickly.
Yup, true. Every rider has strengths and weaknesses, though. Part of being a successful bike rider is doing events that have course profiles that suit your strengths as a cyclist.
That's like saying a 100m sprint runner will blow up in a marathon. That's inevitable. His years of training have been tailored to a different athletic discipline.
JW could easily hold 3.5 to 3.8. You don’t get fast in a 90 minute crit just relying on fast twitch muscles lol. He has insane aerobic engine brah to support those multiple 5-15second bursts. Fast twitch muscles are only relevant for pure sprinters on the velodrome (30 second efforts max all out) where those guys will push 2k plus watts. JW is not a fast twitch muscle athlete on the pro-level.
Love the overview and very happy to see more of these. 🎉 With GCN+ going, where else will we get our non big tour fix? 😜 Did you use to race these races? They’re full on and lots of action and judging by the crashes, a bit safer on Zwift 😂

Give these cat 1 riders enough money not to care about losing their equipment and they will wipe the legion off the board.
LMAO, I commented before watching this and after watching this is exactly what I was talking about. At 12:19 he squeezed into the bend next to the barrier, forcing others to take the longer line and at the exit of the bend he blocked them against the barrier so they had to brake, otherwise they would have crashed. So I didn't learn anything, It only confirmed what I noticed when I was racing
Sick vid... I would say that an early attack like Michael's might have a greater chance of working in like a cat 4/5 race due to lack of team organization... that being said those fields often are supper aggressive in not letting things get away so that is something to keep in mind.
Fairly 'jolty' sprint from Justin at the end, is this because he's pushing down and pulling up on the pedals? Would this be considered good technique in general over a smoother pedal stroke? Not dissing at all, just intrigued, kind of love how you can see the power surge.
Good question. I’m not sure, I can’t see his sprint form from this angle. But he’s got a peak power of around 1800-1900W, I believe. Could just be from the power he’s putting down coupled with some end of race fatigue.
Justin and his brother Corey in my opinion waste a ton ,because theyre not smooth sprinters, look at the top sprinters in the European Peloton ,how they operate far less movement during the sprints.
It's pretty simple, the reason Legion wins so many crits. They bring big teams, they have some of the strongest if not the strongest riders in every race, and they're very disciplined with the way they ride. The Williams brothers would be tough to beat if it were just the two of them, but add another 4 or 5 strong riders, and you may as well hang it up. I love seeing it myself, the cultural and racial diversity on their team.
Luckily for us, the viewers, there's starting to be some parity. The german squad, American Cycling and the NCL teams have made it really interesting to watch these.
It's weird that they have an absolute monster in Eder Frayre..he usually doesn't have the punch at the end but he can chase and take super human pulls routinely.. When you have Williams squared and Robin Carpenter.. other teams have to cover everything all the time because races are so short and so fast that Legion has multiple riders capable of winning.. Williams is as dangerous when he sucks..@25% of the field is marking him.. afraid to attack him and watching him to dictate what is going to happen.. watch his wheel and history says when crunch time comes he will be there.. and when he is not going well people don't know it..he is the black Greg Lemond of US crit racing.. you see them around California.. they are easy to talk to.. people like them.. they bring a bunch of island and black talent to the races.. basically taking what Bahati did to the next step.. when you see them w Mexican national champion.. talented white riders and blacks all working together and winning.. getting press exposure.. the message they send is simple and clear..no matter what you look like or where you are from you belong.. you can race your bike..no matter who you are there is room for you.. the stuff about the Williams Bros being A-holes might be true but it's cancelled out for me by what they bring to the table.. you can tell I am a fan
in general, he brings more good things AND diversity to the cycling scene, especially crit, and especially in Socal. But lately, he has been a bit of a bully, and he's beginning to accumulate hates for this. But he is not seeing this.
I mean, it doesn't hurt to test the waters a little at the mid point of the race. If you can get a good break make-up with some representation from the bigger teams in it, there's always a chance that it can stick. Just need to be calculated with it and drop back if it doesn't happen like Mike did.
I hope you learn something from this video! Let me know if you'd like to see more of these.
this was great overview bro
Glad you enjoyed it 🙌🏾 thanks for taking the time to watch
Great overview. Loved the video, especially the explanation of how the placement for the finish works.
Thanks 🍻 Glad you enjoyed it. I’m going to try and make some more of these to help folks.
This was great breakdown bro. Much love and continued success
Glad it was helpful. Thanks and same to you!
Very nice. Def more of this please🙌🏾
On it!
Really smart riding, great team work controlling the front and working for the win.
Absolutely
Tulsa Tough is the dopest crit. I raced in the Arts District on day 2. If you get a chance, you gotta go and race.
Run people into barriers. Stomp on their bikes, steer into competitors, start shit despite having by far the biggest team in the race. Hm what else

Great video 👍🏾, I believe he won because he had the longest strip stream to the finish, which saved a lot of energy and minimised resistance
Love this! Loving your channel and looking forward to see more. God bless
Thanks, glad to hear you enjoy it. And God bless to you as well!
Love these breakdowns bro. Keep it up!
Thanks, will do. I’ll tighten up the editing for these a little more as well, bare with me lol.

I seen Justin in 144mls race in Belize,Cross Country Classic and He's a two time winner,so go figure it out!!🤔

Those long distance pros are on a concoction of drugs. He’d just need to adjust his protocols if he has any.

Haha yea, Zwift is definitely safer! I’ve done these races, but not at this level. All of these guys in the video are professionals.

has a team that chops wheels

That is true. Good point.
Imagine some of the European big names riding the crit scene in America
If enough prize money gets put up it might happen!
hope they can make their mark in European crit scene too
Crit races aren’t concidered pro in EU, the number one crit teams all have day jobs. They aren’t pro athletes.
yayy

that dude is a magician!
There are a lot of gems in this race to walk away with, especially if people are racing crits solo without a team.
And he soloed..✊✊
Yea, there are LOTS of gems in this race for those that race solo and want to better understand how to freestyle their way through the peloton.
I thought Dusan Kalaba had it for a minute.
Why go off the front with 30 minutes to go still? Wasted effort. Way too soon.

If it is racing outside of Europe WGAF
thanks @SeeSmithTV,,lesson learned😍
